A1 ... I unpack my embedded assessment, align my standards, then plan lessons to target the skills & concepts students need to master #springboardPL#HCPSTeach
A1: I research the hot technology topics. I ask my Ss. I try to plan lessons that build on each other. Projects are great! I can see Ss grow in their knowledge. #hcpsteach
A1 I love collaborating with teammates, like @ldumont82! Some of my best planning comes from combining our ideas! We've been using meaningful data to really plan what skills to teach. #hcpsteach
A1: Analyzing individual student needs based on a variety of meaningful assessments. Scaffolding lessons leads to deeper understanding of content. #thewhymatters#HCPSTeach
A2 Engagement is involved learners... doesn't necessarily mean have they have a pencil in their hand or are busy, but Ss are actively learning and trying to discover more about the topic. Discussions, thinking outside the box, exploring the content #hcpsteach
A2: Students are able to connect content and lesson to their own life. Conversations are buzzing and students are guiding discussion with their own questions. #HCPSTeach
A2: At the beginning, there are a lot of "cool" and "ooohhhh". You know you have the Ss then. Class should be busy with chatter, but good chatter. Engaged students are focused, having a good time, and learning. Ss should leave the room smarter. #HCPSTeach
A2 ... Students focused on the learning ... able to connect learning to the unpacked EA or standard ... "Wow, I get it!" "This is hard ... yea, I'm doing it." #HCPSTeach
@HCPSHammond currently doing a TLAP book study, lots of great hooks to help in planning for engagement...kinesthetic, music, arts, etc. #HCPSTeach#daveburgess
A3: This is going to make me sound like a nerd, but I always try to top myself. If I have a really good lesson, the Ss expect it every time. That's a lot of pressure, but I like it. We as Ts are on stage every day, we have to be ready to frankly perform. #hcpsteach
A3: I don’t know that I always ‘plan for engagement’ to be honest... I am however always passionate about what I’m teaching, which in turn makes my Ss engaged #hcpsteach
A3 Look for as many hooks and things that relate to my Ss' interests and can be connected to the skill being taught. Explore resources and take risks! . #HCPSTeach
A3: I teach technology for the whole school, so I see every S in the span of ten days. I want to teach and train them and have fun doing it. #hcpsteach
A3 ... After standards and #springboardPL embedded assessment, I check the framework provided, and add in resources as needed - based on S learning style #HCPSTeach
A3: Setting goals and visualizing what Ss will take away and continue to apply is key. Activities are meaningful, student-centered, and created for the 21st century learner. Connecting with your students creates empowered learning for all students. #connect#hcpsteach
A3: With that being said, ask the Ss. What would get everyone involved? I have stopped in the middle of a lesson before bc I knew Ss were not into it. They could not believe I did it. I gained a lot of respect that day. #honesty#hcpsteach#ifthehouseisonfiregetout
Q4: No way. The standards are the compass. It's what makes the learning effective. Your knowledge of the kids is the freedom to be creative and make the engagement happen. #HCPSTeach
Q4: Beginning with the end in mind guides backwards design. Understanding the standards provides a necessary guide for student self-assessment and intentional teacher-led instruction. #hcpsteach
A4 It would be hard... standards help give us the end in the mind and allow us to know what areas Ss need to focus on. You might be able to plan a good lesson, but it might be hard to make it meaningful. #HCPSTeach
A5: We can't really be a jack of all trades and a master of none. If you think about it, teaching is hard because we have to adjust on the fly. We have to notice trends. We have to constantly get better. Work smart, not hard. #hcpsteach
A5 ... I think effort needs to lead to mastery ... but if not given with feedback, it can become mere compliance (esp if grading is involved) #HCPSTeach
A5: I had meetings with my Ss every so often just to talk about where they were, set goals, get them to where they needed to be. We built a very family type atmosphere. Ss helped each other. Cheered for everyone. #hcpsteach
A5: I am an interventionist for math now. Each Ss knows where they are at and where they need to be. We also talk about how we are going to get there. You HAVE to get Ss to take ownership of their learning. #hcpsteach
A6: The staff @westhillstigers & @MarshallCoSch are very encouraging. My wife is my biggest cheerleader. She encouraged me to start presenting. I've done one conference, doing another one in November, and another in June hopefully. #hcpsteach
A5: Supporting a productive struggle in the classroom creates a culture where effort is the norm. It’s okay to have a bad day. There is always an opportunity to grow and become better! Student effort matters. #hcpsteach
