#akedchat I'm a 21st Century Learning Specialist w/ emphasis in tech & leadership, coming from an elem classroom T background as well as district tech dep't. Currently providing PD in AK districts around the state! I've lived in Juneau for 9 years. Juneau kids began school today!
#akedchat As a librarian, I have the privilege to work with all students, all teachers, and all staff. It's one of my favorite parts of the job! Relationship with ALL PARTIES are different and equally important.
Late in! Robyn from Anchorage! When we prioritize our professional relationships we share and learn from one another, trust is built, and students succeed! #akedchat
#akedchat Prioritizing relationships is hard. As much as I want to say my relationship with the students it most important, I can't say it's true in every situation. My job allows me to support teachers & by taking pressure off teachers, I help students in the long run as well.
Welcome, Robyn! So glad to have you join us tonight! I agree that the two-way street of sharing and learning from each other is essential for building trust. #akedchat#RelationshipsAreKey
#akedchat A1 I honestly try to make relationships with everyone - parents, students, teachers on Facebook, teachers on Twitter, etc! What gets challenging for me is keeping up with all of them.
A2 I struggle with prioritizing relationships. If you know me at all, you know I am happy to talk to anyone and everyone! It's hard to "cut" a relationship to focus on another; you can learn anywhere. One of my best professional chats was with an Uber driver last year. #akedchat
#akedchat Had a great day, but I am TIRED! Checking out textbooks and computers is always exhausting. Plus, needed to take time to go to all the classrooms to check and make sure teachers had what they needed. (that 2nd part really helps build relationships, just saying)
#akedchat A3 Here is something I did this year. I hope the kids enjoy it and it helps to start a positive relationship with my students! Sorry to retweet myself LOL. Check out the picture to see a sample letter.
One of the 5th grade teachers had each of his students write a letter to the 6th grade teachers. I just got them today. When someone writes to you, you should write back! 2 days before my contract restarts, I have spent my evening writing 20+ individual letters.
#akedchat Unofficial Q1: I asked for parent volunteers to help make bulletin boards. One came in. I could have made the bulletin board myself - but instead we got to talk about her awesome son while stapling border trim! It's all about connections.
Wow! Definitely a relaltionship-builder. Handwriting the letters is a wonderful touch. Handwritten letters show that the receiver is worth the writer's time! Thank you for sharing! #akedchat#RelationshipsAreKey
I don't think it is one-sided, but if something isn't working and you are in front of a class of students that you don't know, sometimes having someone come in to see if you need something will keep you from feeling stranded. So, that is my 'Unofficial A1" #akedchat
#akedchat A4 My 6th grade teacher team and I adopted a student's behavior plan for ourselves! We can give each other "squares" for that build toward prizes! (coffee, cookies, perhaps a trip to the brewery for "coffee", after hours of course!) Fun outside work = fun at work.
#akedchat Twitter & I are not getting along tonight - the # search with 'latest' is still missing a lot of things! I've had to open @InspiredImpact's page to get the Q's. Anyone know what setting I have messed up?
Learning names is so important! My whole life Iâve always been afraid to go by my full name āļŠāļļāļāļĢāļĢāļāļīāļāļēāļĢāļāļĢāđ since it was so hard to pronounce! Really excited that the folks at my work have been willing! #akedchat
Do you use TweetDeck? I couldn't do a chat well without it! I've also noticed a lag in things showing up in the #akedchat stream tonight. Oh, and also a lag when I was scheduling tweets earlier today (for tonight).
#akedchat We had an ENTIRE DAY of staff development with @brightwayslearn --fun team building activities! My favorite was learning the Virginia Reel. Whew--tiring but hilarious! @DozerArt@jethrojones

#akedchat spend time listening...venting, talking about their families, talking about what is going on in their classrooms, etc. Listening allows me to know how I can support them best.
Itâs all volunteer, itâs tsken 7 years to build that strong culture where most staff participate. We have a Gala each ear and Iâm always impressed by the number of staff in attendance. (Itâs an event to raise awareness in what we do). #akedchat
#akedchat Curb duty!! It was my favorite way to connect--smile, make them laugh perhaps, & give parents a positive ending to their day. Another idea...Last year I sent texts and called a few parents to tell them something good their child had done. LOVED that! Should do it more!
We have a reading #pln this year which Iâm really excited about. The Advantage has been an awesome read talking about organizational culture #akedchat
When I was in classroom we spent a lot of time on cooperative learning at beginning of year (I know - this is dating me!) Didn't think of it as such then but it was a great way to #BuildRelationships. Also did problem solving activities in sm grps. #akedchat#RelationshipsAreKey
#akedchat A5: As a visiting teacher/leader in small rural village, taking walks along the boardwalks each evening gave me good opportunities to meet parents #akedchat#RelationshipsAreKey
#akedchat During all three of our first days we have had students participating in team activities...from large group (100+) to medium group (25-75) to small group (25 max)....Just spending that time interacting is building relationships more than sitting in rows.
Q6: Invite them to stay after school and work in the classroom, respond to weekly journals, listen to their stories even when long, and watch them play at community athletic and music events. #akedchat
#akedchat A6: Providing problem solving activities for students in small groups is great opportunity to help them build relationships with classmates #akedchat#RelationshipsAreKey
#akedchat A7: Most of my professional relationships with colleagues is over distance. I want to reach out to a staff I worked with the last 3 years to stay connected. Email will be the best way #RelationshipsAreKey
Q7: listen more than I talk!! I have a lot of ideas and thoughts and always want to share and I always get super excited, but need to remember to slow down and LISTEN to others too! #akedchat
