#digitaledchat is a global twitter chat that covers almost everything and anything to do with modern learning, educational technology and learning spaces. Contributors are often from all over the world and new participants are always welcome to take part!
#digitaledchat A1: The same it meant in the years before. Diving into the vast resourceful web, looking around, reading, distilling and using whichever solution fits.
Interesting notion - although room for best practice needs always present I like it when learners can come up with the left-field response/thinking #digitalEDchat
A2 .. and still on the theme of nicking ... I have nicked loads of good ideas from students when i get them to help me design the NCEA course... #digitaledchat
#digitaledchat A2 Exploring is an essential element of #creativity and creativity is essential in problem solving and seeing #learning as problem solving is empowering.
A2: #digitaledchat Much like the Socratic method there is no wrong answer. Kids feel safer when the teacher is one of them. Their approach is bolder and collective learning takes place instead of one-to-one.
A2 It can emphasis that its not always about exploring a place or a thing.. but process or a perspective. It need not be new in the 'old school explorer' type way #digitaledchat
A2 exploring is more likely to lead to coconstructed learning, the art of teaching is learning when to use teacher voice to facilitate their learning #digitalEDchat
Exploration requires more from the teacher though, not less - more courage, more ambition, more flexibility, and more tools at their disposal for facilitating Ss #digitaledchat
Only if the kids understand the teacher is also a learner and not the "expert" or "sage on stage". As P4C says "Their guide at their side" #digitaledchat

That’s an awesome way to develop managing self though, so many new and old tools to help learners work through this. EOY certainly brings real and imagined pressures for everyone #digitalEDchat

Oh, but how come? Writing is so much like coding, or movie making. There's mechanics and creativity involved in both. Or is it how we assess it that kills the opportunity for exploration of literacy? #digitaledchat

We've found the more we let Ss explore then find ways to develop mastery, the further they go. Exploring allows authentic connection and this leads to more engagement in any learning area #Digitaledchat

A3 : #digitaledchat In some ways ed tech is an equalizer. It gives all learners the same chance to extract what they can from it and create their own visions from it. So its quite empowering if done right.
A4 It can fit a little to easily into a schema that relates digital tech with entertainment, narrow social media channels of similar perspectives, and consumption #digitaledchat
It's part of one of the successful collaborative professionalism indicators (see executive summary p5 ) Excellent research here: https://t.co/sYrN7y8eCe#digitalEDchat

#digitaledchat A4: Ed tech like any tool is something that requires practice and evaluation. If the "Why" is not clear, then any kind of further work with it is going to limit possibilities. Even make the whole experience miserable for everyone.
Wow I missed a whole Q in the side chat!! EdTech A3: enables through the breadth of connection & A4: may disable or constrain if you get lost in the breadth #digitalEDchat
Thanks, Kevin. I see a lot of parallels between those skills and general skills of being a caring successful communicator and collaborator. Do we silo edtech learning skills sometimes? #digitaledchat
#digitaledchat Or even when Ss are exploring. Always hovering over their shoulders and trying to backseat drive their research. All of that is done so much Ts dont even realize they are becoming a hurdle. I have been guilty myself.

I like to make links and see where edtech fits into the big educational picture rather than see it as something that is specific. Keeps things flexible and dynamic. IMO quality edtech lng doesn't happen in a silo #digitalEDchat
#digitaledchat This is why in my CS lessons where research is involved I set a timer, open a shared G-Doc and sit back and watch. All the stuff starts coming in. Once we are done we go through and distill as required. As a group.
Care to elaborate? I know in DTP the Year 9 girls are years ahead in their exploration. They are far less worried about mistakes due to exploring. #digitalEDchat

#digitaledchat A5: Show them the How and Where and let them be. The What and Why can follow. Since Ss brought in the research they are left to defend it too. Makes them own their work better rather than being handed a list of T biased sources.
A5: Teach how to case out reliable resources and connections; search tools; give some starters that set the direction without constraining the destination #digitalEDchat
Brought on by an education system that rewards compliance over questioning and exploration? Article: Why must little boys be like little girls? https://t.co/wn5pVdf9FB#digitaledchat

A5 That they are aware that there will be barriers - things that challenge their beliefs or perspectives as well as barriers in skill and content. But that we press forward anyway #digitaledchat
Nice post. I think in any explore learning, there does need some guidance, otherwise students can go way off track and become disengaged. #digitalEDchat
Good thinking. I think there is some cultural and parental expectation adverse to what is seen as "failing", what we see as part of legitimate learning. #digitalEDchat

I get this! I see the pressure on young girls in terms of makeup and fashion. The only escape is pointing out the tenuous link to reality. #digitalEDchat

Perhaps the challenge is to redefine perfection as someone who simply has the right attitude to failure. After all, who defines perfect? #digitaledchat

Great challenge ... or maybe wicked problem? That one is a deep social conundrum. We can certainly take small steps in our own space though #digitalEDchat

With hard work and collaboration, but do we as educators not stand in a unique position to at least make a start? By empowering them to question social norms? #digitaledchat

@stuartkellynz Computers. Google. Super fast internet and a bunch of s's with lots of knowledge and content in long term memory with specific ideas about what they are looking for. #digitalEDchat
Must have been a 'societal norm' that defined it! Either that, or they invented a new size and shape for the project - that would be blue sky thinking! #digitalEDchat
