Hi Sonal! Kim from So Cal, Digital Learning Instructional Coach for PYLUSD. Something new out of my comfort zone is letting my son drive. https://t.co/MmfQYRmrfi.God. I will be fully gray in 6 months. lol #CUEchat
Kyle in Reno, special education teacher! @RemScience taught me about Tour Builder at #techrodeo this past weekend. While not completely out of my comfort zone, it's definitely new to me #Cuechat

A1:Creativity and Innovation means being willing to take chances and try new lessons. It’s okay to get outside your comfort zone in the best interests of your Ss. #CUEchat
A1: To me, innovation is doing something nobody has ever done before or adapting something that's been done to improve it or meet specific needs. #CUEchat
Creativity and innovation is such a broad spectrum…but, served as vital skillsets to be learned and engaged from the classroom to the boardroom. Too often we turn to technology, when it begins with our mindset and finding ways to provide value to all those we serve. #cuechat
A1 Being willing to try something different and open to fail: First Attempt In Learning. Approaching a problem from a unique approach or angle. #CUEchat
A1: Creativity and Innovation for me is all about changing how we think about complex problems.
To solve the problems of tomorrow we as educators need to instill in our students creative and innovative thought processes and skills to solve these issues as they arise. #cuechat
A1: Taking a risk to do something new, changing up how you do something that has a high chance of "failure" but will be amazing if/when it does work #cuechat
It’s so important that we are not only creating environments where we can be strategic in the risks we take, but have an understanding of how we will support each other and use it as a point of learning when a risk does not work out as planned. #cuechat
Hello #CUEchat and Sonal! Angela from SoCal: 3rd grade T + Tech site lead + district Teacher Induction mentor
In the fall I began presenting at various conferences with pal @KristinOropeza - totally outside my normal comfort zone :)

A1: Creativity and innovation means using the skills that you have to design something new and meaningful to you or a user you are creating for. There is a chance of failure when working with these so I think that these are also considered a process to learn from! #cuechat
There is that disruptive innovation…as well as incremental innovation. It is in understanding how the novel and new provides value to individuals and the organization to better serve students, educators and stakeholders at all levels. #cuechat
Doesn't that just burn you to no end? Perhaps something creative and innovative will increase test scores because students will be engaged in the content? #cuechat
A1: Creativity means allowing each of our dreams, ideas, and greatest desires to be explored, even when others may not see or share our vision. When paired with innovation it means new ideas and challenges.#cuechat
A1) #cuechat Creativity and Innovation are at the utmost importance for human existence. To create is to satisfy all senses - to express one's inner thoughts or feelings. Innovation drives the future and when it takes place we strive for making things better! #teachwithsplendor

When you look at the research and data coming from the global marketplace…very often, creativity and innovation are topping the list of skillsets that employers are looking for from those moving into the workforce. #cuechat
A2: I had never taught special education before this year, I took a risk and accepted a #SPED position partly out of necessity, partly out of intrigue, but regardless, a big risk #cuechat
A2: #cuechat I am in my first year at a new institution. There has been some peaks and valleys as expected. An innovation or risk is myself! I needed to make a change in my professional life and I took the leap of faith! So far so excellent!
I think we need to wake up each day willing to take a risk…which sometimes just happens in taking the time to learn something new, explore different thinking, be willing to approach each day as a cognitive pioneer. #cuechat
A2 Designing and delivering personalized pd has been a risk. https://t.co/aBZlXdurQR Over 50 YOUCubes have been delivered and personalized PD is creating a bit of a buzz in PYLUSD #CUEchat
I take risks daily. I live out loud. Even with work. I strive to be authentic and that is always a risk an any organization that has hierarchical politics such as a district office. #iacue#cuechat@TrPatel20@DCulberhouse

A2 This past year, I organized our first vendor fair. Our vendors brought some great stuff! I wish more staff attended, but those who did seemed to enjoy it. #CUEchat
A2: This year I have taken on designing middle school innovation middle school class and I am starting a Genius hour class this semester! The first semester I learned through trial and error what works and what doesn't. This semester is going better! #cuechat

A1: Creativity and innovation to me, means getting rid of set expectations and the need for validation. Doing so, gets rid of unnecessary boundaries. #allthepossibilities#CUEchat
And I love that about you Greg…and your district. You are constantly willing to disrupt the status quo in the constant search for better. And it shows in the work that is being done! #cuechat

A1: I think @gcouros said it best when he defined innovation as creating something both new AND better. Creativity is either envisioning something new, being inspired by others to create or putting things together that many might not originally seem to go together. #cuechat
A2) I stepped out of my comfort zone and took a leadership position at my school. I also presented for the first time! I hope to continue growing if growing is this much fun! #CUEchat#iacue
A2: I have tried to include more integrated lessons- especially with the @nearpod platform with @icivics...with limited access to computers/iPads/laptops (we are not 1:1) it is sometimes challenging-but I keep trying! I risk not having access, but I keep trying! #cuechat#iacue

Hey #cuechat Nicole in SoCal jumping in late. A2 I feel like I take risks on the daily. I’m in a new grade after several years, but even if it was the same grade. Different kids, different day, education is about variables and what works today may not work tomorrow
A2) #cuechat This year I have pushed myself to be a part of grander things when it comes to education. Applying and getting the job for Instructional Coach at District and from there gathering tools and resources I hope to use to help educators and students. #romogrows

A2: each year I become stronger in how I present tech in the classroom and this year I expanded some of my lessons
as I see that my Ss "get" what I'm showing them I push them a little further - It's exciting to see this group do more than the last bc I am #CUEchat

A2: One risk I took this year is presenting at a local #CVCUE event. It’s only my 5th year teaching and I didn’t feel ready AT ALL! Thankfully, I had amazing support the entire way 💪🏽 #CUEchat#somosCUE
Don’t forget to spend time researching and using curiosity and inquiry to learn more about creativity and innovation. Such as there are 3 types of creativity. Especially as we see more and more the importance of these skill/mindsets. #cuechat
It's not about your years of experience, about having something to share and your willingness to share it! Good for you! #cuechat#EDUsforInnovation#DitchThatFear
A2: I am stuck on this one, I feel like as an educator I constantly try and sign up for things, many outside of my comfort zone. I think more importantly, what draws me is my desire to learn!#cuechat
A2: In my #ELA7 class, I saw how much Ss struggled with writing so I made it my mission to help them learn the process of writing...which is hard for them...I hope they leave with confidence and skill #CUEchat#WeAreCUE#writingchallenge
Love the ideas being shared and how others are willing to dig into their own creative and innovative spirit. So important, as what we learn, has a tendency to cascade positively into the classroom. #cuechat
When you look at the research and data coming from the global marketplace…very often, creativity and innovation are topping the list of skillsets that employers are looking for from those moving into the workforce. #cuechat
A3: I have tried to incorporate more choice in activities. In a recent hyperdoc I built, I gave students that choice to write a summary or #Flipgrid their summary as the culminating activity #cuechat
A2 Designing and delivering personalized pd has been a risk. https://t.co/aBZlXdurQR Over 50 YOUCubes have been delivered and personalized PD is creating a bit of a buzz in PYLUSD #CUEchat
For myself, and in my position, I have had the opportunity to be allowed to run a 4 session workshop on “Systems of Change” and a 3 session workshop on “The Creative Leader” that digs deep into getting leaders to engage more creativity and innovation in their leadership. #cuechat
That is so important, Judy. It is becoming vital to those moving into the workforce, especially as those skillsets continue to change as the world of work changes. #cuechat

A3: For me it’s all about the CAHSS Framework: one of the main shifts was Inquiry. I used @NationalHistory for students to dig deep into Inquiry practices/pedagogy while learning academic skills-planning, research, writing a thesis statement, organization, etc. #CUEChat

A3: this is definitely something I am still working on. My students do not have any creative outlet really at the school so I’ve been doing my best to integrate more artistic expression and summative and formative assessments. #CUEChat
A3: Recently, I’ve made tasks more open-ended than before. In math, students have collaborated to make their own esti-mysteries that challenge their peers #CUEchat
Remember, environments we create are vital to being and remaining creative and innovative. Most of the time people are not afraid of the failure that comes with a risk, but what others will say and how they will react. Leaders create the environment, for better or worse. #cuechat
#flipgrid has been a favorite among my 3rd graders too - they are always asking when the next activity will be (luv that they don't consider it an assignment) #CUEchat
In reply to
@TrPatel20, @AndersonEdTech, @Flipgrid
Students utilize video production to express themselves (dont worry - its academically related). With that said, I found that the new strategies (thanks jennifer serravallo!) I taught the scholars has really fostered their love for writing their own stories. #CUEchat
A3 each year I feel I build more choice and autonomy for Ss. I’m increasingly comfortable with open ended assignments, with stepping back and allowing Ss to engage in meaningful struggle. Also, Aspects of blended learning to give more time for design thinking. #cuechat

A4: #CUEChat for me and my students I work very hard on providing them with real world complex problems that they are facing today and their community. We then work together to solve these problems in a creative but realistic way.
Have you tried presenting reasons @christyn_a ? The 'Why' sometimes goes a long way! I always liked to show data to prove something was working or will work #cuechat#iacue

A4: Learning doesn't have to occur in rows, on #workshits or packets, and the T doesn't have to direct the learning. Hoping more embrace #voiceandchoice#flexibleworking spaces and not needing to be carbon copy. #CUEchat
Remember, the tools will come, when we have engaged or disrupted our thinking. Too often, the tools are just extending what we already do, without transforming the ways in which we approach it. Spend time reading, thinking, considering how to truly transform your work. #cuechat
I strongly feel that every single teacher at my school is AMAZING with creative ideas. I feel that if everyone had a platform to share their ideas, we would greatly learn from each other. PD by Teachers -Idea inspired by @giroux_mich & @estela_gomez19's presentation. #CUEchat
A4: I am a big fan of #digitalportfolios and use them in all my classes to get students to take pride in their work and take owenership beyond turniing it in to teacher #CUEchat#WeAreCUE#iacue
A2: I feel like every day is risky. I’m constantly adapting our format - no year is the same. Probably my willingness to go for a new activity vs. sit back and wait. We did @eduprotocols Frayer-a-Friend @GetKahoot thanks to @SteinbrinkLaura - great experience! #CUEchat
Don’t forget to create a network that allows for ongoing flow of new ideas and new thinking to exist. That creative space is vital. Surround yourself with the opportunity to access new thinking and new ideas. #cuechat
A4. We totally flipped our evaluation structure this year. It’s a growth model and teachers set their goals and share a professional portfolio to demonstrate their growth. It’s supported by coaching, blended learning and intentionally designed collaboration. #cuechat

A4 So many! Makerspaces for exploring, Sway/PowerPoint/Slides for presentations, #minecraft, #coding, robotics, #legos... Allowing time for play, experimenting, exploration, and failure! #cuechat
Great question!! Tools/tech can be used for all sorts of purposes, but it’s about the message/lesson being delivered. I believe that tech is the vehicle & the message/lesson is what is important. Tech can be the tool for innovation, but it’s not the innovation itself. #CUEchat
In reply to
@TrPatel20, @cueinc, @IACUE, @DCulberhouse
A3: I will provide Ss with a multitude of avenues to produce a product #studentchoice & inevitably they share a new tool/technique with me. Learned about @voicethread thanks to my students this year! #CUEchat
Yeah! We all have our own unique talents... if the T becomes facilitator, promoting inquiry and creativity, who knows what our Ss will design and create! #cuechat#iacue
ooohh...I use flipgrid for math (explaining strategies & steps), fluency reads, practiced the Pledge of Allegiance, "pen pals" (which we could do :) #CUEchat
In reply to
@christyn_a, @TrPatel20, @DCulberhouse
A4 I think 2 things I find most lacking are not actually tech or tools but rather I’m frequently stymied by time and space. Ts need time to get out and see what’s going on outside their walls, and have others see the great stuff they are doing. Ss and Ts need time 1/#cuechat
We're doing that in @CVUSDNews. About to host our 3rd annual ChET Day (Chino Ed Tech)! A day of learning by teachers for teachers. #chet19 The brainchild of @teacherkimj. Catch her @iste poster session, though I think it would be a great full session! #CUEchat

YES!!! #cuechat#iacue It's not the tool but rather the meaningful use of the tool or tools! We now have so many resources that can help us be innovative.... that includes access to so many people cross our globe #cuechat#iacue

A4) #cuechat Being able to transform libraries, classrooms, and common areas of the school into mini labs, art studios, and/or engineering hubs (makerspaces) truly allows for the creative process to happen. Being open to allow students to lead their creations is great too!

A4: I think the tools and tech will come(🤷🏽♀️) but the classroom and school community is more important to me. At our site, we celebrate everyone’s “gifts” Whether they’re artistic gifts, kinesthetic, etc. Everyone is celebrated and every idea is worth sharing. #CUEchat
.@DCulberhouse Woop! I have a #curiousmind galore with more ideas that I can chase down. It's hard dealing with a world and educational structure that does not necessarily value that...but I have learned to not give up or give in #CUEchat#WeAreCUE#iacue
A5: Engaging in authentic communication via #Flipgrid. Weekly topics are available for teachers to share ideas across the district. It's been my goal since August! #CUEchat
Space to explore, make, do, and save work in progress. Sometimes (ok, all the time) my classroom looks like a learning bomb ( or some kind of tornado) went off in the middle of class. Our motto is, “pardon our mess, we’re learning” 😂#CUEchat 2/2
When I taught primary, I used painted used tires with pillows for reading areas. The kids can sign the tires at the end of the year. #cuechat#recycling#repurpose
A4: Take the class to a dance studio, teach improv/the importance of flexibility/ensemble work...ROOM TO PLAY and allow for fun. Don’t be afraid I change up the environment. We went the first few weeks w/o desks focusing on building our community. #CUEchat
A5: For me it’s all about @NationalHistory projects. Ss are initially intimidated by such a big project, but once they figure out they can have a choice/voice in their learning they are all in! I am always amazed by what they learn/teach me! #CUEchat
In reply to
@TrPatel20, @cueinc, @IACUE, @DCulberhouse, @NationalHistory
A5: Anything that makes one think and not have something "spoon fed" to them. Example: present a photo, have students try to figure out what it is without giving them any context clues #cuechat
Never be afraid to model something that you may not quite be comfortable with yet…that level of transparency and vulnerability, especially as a leader, creates the environment where others are willing to dive in as learners. #cuechat
A5: Having personalized professional development for staff members based on their learning styles and personality type is at first a bit intimidating at first but so worth it...and for the Ss, anything #PBL! #cuechat
In reply to
@TrPatel20, @cueinc, @IACUE, @DCulberhouse
Always remember, being a “learner” requires a journey…whereas, being an “expert” is focused on a destination. As the editor of Wired, Kevin Kelly shares, “We are all newbies in today’s world.” Always be willing to stay a learner. #cuechat
A5b #EduProtocols are also a huge love of mine that I think will allow for great things to happen. I am hosting a training FOR FREE this Saturday...all are welcome. DM me for details #CUEchat
A5. This is a hard question. I think that to continue to persist in our new growth model for evaluations and shifting the overall culture to a continual learning climate for teachers is going to get everyone out of the cz. #cuechat

A4:This might sound crazy, but what if we didn't have room assignments K-5 and instead, flexibility with space and time. Thematically inspired rooms for learning. Teacher rotations of classrooms. Perhaps this is something that can happen within a grade level. #cuechat
Currently working on a Holocaust project/contest. Previously only “honors” Ss were allowed to participate at our site. I opened it up to all of my class levels & other Ts. Didn’t get the buy in from co-workers, but Ss are giving it their best. #CUEchat
When I was in elementary (way back in the 70s) I attended a school like this. It was called an "open door" school. I LOVED it. I learned things I was passionate about and things at my level. #cuechat
I met an educator recently that told me they knew everything about being a great educator... you can never know too much. We can always learn from one another and there's constantly new research #cuechat#iacue
When considering your creative and innovative journey, always keep AND in mind…
Divergent AND Convergent, Open AND Constraints, Pioneers AND Settlers.
AND pushes us past Either/Or thinking.
I began using it last year and what was eye-opening was that my challenging students had to warm up to it and my most quiet became stars! #CUEchat so grateful for this tool

Absolutely! It's about providing the space for various individuals. Some like desks, some don't, some like to vary it from day to day. Some like space and some don't..the list goes on but the most important thing is that they are given the choice! #cuechat#iacue#WeAreCue
