Welcome to the last #caschat before the summer break.
Please introduce yourself and tell us what is your favourite icecream / lolly? Mine is
funny feet :)
A1. Not sure about most successful, but I've done a lot of parent events this year.
Been great to connect with families and the community
#FamiliesCoding#caschat
A1: Iron Giant Microbit project by far! First time of trying it and would do it again! Children all engaged and a great cross curricular project. #caschat

A1 not sure if this is what you’re looking for 😳..... for me, using @Snapchat as a tutorial tool with my @StrathBiomedEng students, they loved it #caschat

A2. I wanna build more resources as I'm teaching. I tend to do lessons without building the resources. I've ended up repeating myself a few times. Waste of effort. Plus it means I can share more!
#caschat
A2: I'm pleased to be having more time to dedicate to computing, and I will be doing everything differently as I will be working across two schools. #caschat
Hi #caschat, it's Alan, newly minted Master Teacher at @williamhulmes where you can now follow my classroom exploits at @WHGSComputing (I made the avatar myself using Paint3D!)
A2 I have reduced hours across KS3 next year as am on a carousel with two other subjects; so rethinking all schemes. More computational thinking, more challenges and ethics I think #caschat
A2 #caschat planning to squeeze in a focused maker dropin once a week to teach key skills- knot tying, needle threading, knitting, button sewing, cutting All these basic skills that chn need to run with independent #Making .Also maybe appoint a few Pupil Maker Mentors
Didn't introduce myself - Vicky, K-8 (5-14 year olds) Technology Teacher in Los Angeles, CA. My favorite ice cream lately is one called banana cream pie. #CASchat
Glad to hear it, Kelvin. Quantum resources are fantastic - such a time saver. More people need to know abot these! Plus the resource FREE for life! #caschat
A2. #caschat Keep networking with local, capable, passionate STEM people until we manage to do more in-county vs it all being in London/Cambridgeshire. Love meeting new people, but we have a lot of great STEM people in Essex, just all helping in a patchwork of separate groups.
A2, Spend more time introducing algorithmic thinking features such as conditional selection, procedures, nested loops etc through concept, role play, writing everyday examples before prog v successful so far an early example here https://t.co/nwrJMlqQyY#caschat
A2 be more confident to share what I do with others, encourage others to use social media in learning and teaching...... do more Lego Serious Play with more awesome people #caschat
A1. Robotics with Sphero and @SpheroEdu Pupils could see the possibilities for embedded systems and program them to do amazing physical things #caschat
I haven't made any resources as such, other than setting them up to make them as easy to understand as possible. Simple, clear activities in safe/controlled microcosm. #CASChat A1 (Remotely planting and running C++ programs adds element of danger...)

Q1. #caschat Public: Marble run demo as talking point for Microbit/RPi projects. School: Morse Code & Fibre Optic communications talk/session using RPis. Private: Pulse/Temp/Noise input sensors for data logging & graphing (med tech).
A3 My reading pile is so large I don't know where to start! I am reading about OpenFrameworks for my own learning at the minute. Haven't thought about any teaching ones yet. #caschat
A3: On my computing list: Coding as a Playground by Marina Bers, Computer Science K-12 (Imagining the Possibilities) by Doug Bergman, & Girl Code b/c Andrea Gonzales one of the authors just keynoted #csta2018#CASchat

Also been reading this horror book at the moment called The Three. Really recommend it. Horror isn't normally my bag but it's great.
Oh and also I ALWAYS recommend World War Z. The book is friggin awesome! Don't let the film spoil things for you! #CASChat
#caschat Q1 Running the #DivingDeepPrimaryProgramming courses. 100+teachers attended across London and South West, plus spin-off workshops in conferences to 100's more teachers across the country. Sheer pleasure & privilege to work with awesome primary teachers. More next year!
Q2. Encourage other teachers to use cross-curricular approaches to computing. It's one of the most fundamentally cross-curricular subjects: using technology, logic, creativity & CT to solve problems that cross all disciplines. #caschat
A2 we have INCREASED time at KS3 50% in yr9 so stepping up the depth of learning a few notches and more even spread of teaching at A Level between class teachers. We also have an additional GCSE class so twice as many Yr10 lessons make for a busy CS lab! @RendcombCollege#caschat

#caschat A3 Ive found a set of these, plus the knitting book.( Thank You @LibraryDenJ Have put an appeal out for a knitting machine and am hoping to adapt one of the stories in the books for an unplugged breakout room style project a la the amazing @DawnHewitson
#caschat Q2 A2 Agreed. The big three programming constructs (sequence, selection, repetition) and other programming concepts (variables, initialisation, concurrency etc) - foundational knowledge and vocabulary to spring board skills. Love the role play building on current KSU!

My MSc is investigating the use of LSP to enhance the participation of non-native speakers of English in group work activities. The build time allows participants to think about the words they’ll use, Q’s are asked of the model not the person. #caschat
#caschat A3 I am reading books on stats - to analyse my 210 survey respondents for my design research, and also on the Delphi Process for my next study on creating guidelines with teachers (not recommended for anyone else!)
Q3. The Moscow Puzzles Boris A.Kordemsky - They've inspired some great computational thinking puzzles for my primary pupils. Image apt for World Emoji Day #caschat
A4: One has already past - the CSTA conference. I'm looking forward to some non-work time, hopefully, but still have lots to do for school since wikispaces is closing and Google Classroom is changing and we need a new Internet provider. #caschat

A4 famliy time, spending time with the kids and friends, unwinding then playing with some projects, never seem to get much time during the term! #caschat

Ooh I have so much to say about Lego Serious Play!! It’s awesome, it’s a facilitation method, can be used for problem solving, planning, teaching..... literally can be used in any situation. This wee video helps to explain it better: https://t.co/aYZZwAhd43
#caschat A3 recommended books: Coding as a playground @marinabers Code-it Crumble creations @Baggiepr Computer Science Education: Perspectives on Teaching and Learning in School @suesentance The power of computational thinking Paul Curzon & Peter McOwan
Visiting Italy with the family, drinking copious quantities of Aperol Spritz and - I'm sad too - writing new units for iCompute in the EYFS - all fired up about AR! #caschat
Assignments are moving to a new section called Classwork. All people are together in a section called People. Some things aren't there anymore (like being able to see how many are done w/an assignment) but I'm hoping they come back. #CASchat

#caschat Q4 - working on my PhD & getting my next study up and ready to run with teacher in Autumn 2018. #shamelessplug will be looking for primary teachers with experience of using design in teaching programming to take part in Focus Groups :) Excited!!!!
I am with you need to dust them off and work on my skills and teach with them more, ordered a bunch of stuff and want to finally make the arcade machine! #caschat
