Good evening everyone.
Tonight, it's @ResiliencyGuy taking the lead on
#Resiliencechat
I hail from Northern California, and I tweet a lot about #Resilience development!
Anyone out there tonight?
I may have held a similar #Resiliencechat in the past, and yet, with improved opportunity for character use, I'm hoping that we find some new opinions, and go deeper. Who is on board tonight?
I know that folks get very busy during this time of year, and usually, this is the last week prior to #winter recess, and yet, I am here, and so are you, and you might even just be catching a glimpse of our tag #Resiliencechat and thinking about tweeting! #doit
#Resiliencechat#Service: Focus on and commit to provide and deliver service to all stakeholders including students, their families, the community that they live.
Q1 How do you, as an educator, seek to #serve students, their families, your community?
A1 #Resiliencechat
To me, #Service can have a number of meanings. Direct support, ensuring quality of care and teaching, building systems where positive can flourish, directly providing skills, training, and guidance to employees. How about for you?
That is truly paying it forward. #Resiliencechat I find that sometimes having real authentic conversations with people truly provides education that somehow was missed.
A1: I created a method to decode the French language for kids, their parents and school use. That was the best way to serve my Anglo/Franco community. #resiliencechat
Here's another idea for #Service:
Focus on and commit to provide and deliver service to all stakeholders including students, their families, the community that they live in, and any and all collaborators that are part of your system of support.

Hi Jenny! @Watermelonworks Perfect example of providing what people really need and will appreciate, rather than something that we think they need, yet might not truly make a difference. #Resiliencechat
My husband has an interesting idea. You teach best what you have struggled with. I am teaching the young fella about what I've had to learn. #resiliencechat

#Resiliencechat#Teach
A: #Teach what is needed by students. Target Socio-Emotional Learning and Understanding, to think critically, to use resources and technology
B: #Teach to stretch a group's thinking, to communicate, to collaborate and be collegial, accept differences.
A2 #Resiliencechat#Teach what is needed by students. Target Social Emotional Learning and Understanding, to think critically, to use resources and technology, to stretch a group's thinking, to communicate, to collaborate and be kind, accept differences.
A2: I focus on the skills that need tweaking. I start with sounds, then blending, then word building , then reading, then tweak writing as required. Great method with greater results. #Resiliencechat
#Resiliencechat Focusing on #STRIIVE to Build #Resilience
Target the "R" #Relate: Through Relationships, Resilience, Responsibility, Resources, Relevance, and Resolve, Rigor, Q3 on the way!!!
A2: 18 years of experience... Start all in the same spot, they all break out where they need to be for their level. Then guided reading can be grouped for those in sim. Levels. all feel included. No one centered out for being different. #Resiliencechat
#Resiliencechat Q3 Do you consciously target and flex strategies to #Relate to your students, their families, their community, or do you have a set structure that you think facilitates the connection to your target group? Help us, learn from you! What strategies do you suggest?
So true! If there is meaning in the learning, the relevance of the information sustains its importance. If the information is trivial, limited success comes from that information. #Resiliencechat
#Resiliencechat
Q4 What ways have you found that truly #inspire your students to want more, do more, say more, write more, think more, reach for and beyond the stars?
Don't we all need more #inspired people in the world!
I for inspire: bring out the qualities they do best. Confidence buildswhen they see immediate results in themselves.
Inspire to see that there's more make the world awe and wonder. (How they already see it). LOL #Resiliencechat
A4: I think this is where #EdTech definitely comes into play. It gives every student an option to be creative in a way that works for them. #resiliencechat

A4: There is nothing more than a smile and a welcome statement. Call them by name. Send positive notes/emails/calls home. Let them know you care BEYOND the classroom. #resiliencechat
#Resiliencechat Let's focus on "I" #2 - One of my favorites:
#Innovate: Use thought-expanding, creative, inclusive lessons, and engagement strategies to connect with and expand upon student's ideas, ingenuity, thoughts, interests, and motivation.
#Resiliencechat Q5 next!

A4: Give Ss a voice, let them post their writing in the halls. We recently gave Ss "conflicts" to "solve." The drew pics on a poster how to solve and I had them present to school in AM announcements. Others asked if they could share tomorrow!
#Yes, each student must know that they are cared for, and that we absolutely just #love them, and want them to find their knowledge, skills, passion. We must let them see we are present for them! #Resiliencechat
Welcome Greg @gjfairchild Yes, each child's perspective, and out put carries so much meaning. It is the way to help them see they are growing, and there is power in knowing! #Resiliencechat
YESS! Peak innovation. hook the students so well that the engagement spills over and they go home and actually talk to their parents about what they did today! #resiliencechat
#Resiliencechat Q5
Have you been able to integrate and embed #innovative styles, information, skills, technology, into your instructional delivery, educational systems, and help children become the #innovators?
C'mon now, don't keep any ideas secret!

Do you know how much your world can change when everyone is positive? It's invigorating. It's work, but it's mind blowing. Love when there is a village supporting and surrounding the life of a child. #resiliencechat

A5: Flipgrid, Mystery Skype, Skype in the classroom, Google slides are all ways Ss are learning how to use Technology to #innovate. So much out there, but remind Ts that #innovative does not have to be tech.
Q5: I keep it real. I tell them how parts of the real world work. I tell them you need education to change your world. In order to be able to change your stars you have to work hard. Life is not handed to you. You are owed nothing. You earn it. #resiliencechat
Three #BIG#Pieces to #VALUE#Value A: Demonstrate and respond to the value that each person brings to our world with respect for their differences and perspective with vigor.
#Resiliencechat
#Resiliencechat#Value B: Value the differences that are inherent in each person, and accept the unique offerings of each person.
#Value C: By demonstrating that we value each person, we teach that valuing each person is an abundantly more clear strategy than devaluing people.

Our Ss use Flipgrid to summarize a story, to show how they solved a math problem, and to show how they demonstrated kindness. It's like wildfire! #resiliencechat They LOVE to see themselves and have a VOICE.
Going deep for Q6:
#Resiliencechat Q6 Does your class, educational institution, ed system, broader community, have a primary directive or a strategic commitment to #value each child? Their family? Their community? And if not, why not? Because shouldn't this be the goal?
Great question. We do, but it’s not as deep as what it needs to be in order to help our students reach their fullest potential. A big thing is, we need all hands on deck and a few are just not really ready and never will be for that. #sad#resiliencechat
A6: we all talk about no child left behind. Zero tolerance for bullying. Is that the true practice? Do we truly embrace each child to reach their full potential? #resiliencechat
A6: #resiliencechat We have a mission statement about helping Ss reach their individual potential.... But in all honesty, it is up to each and every person in a school who has the responsibility (and honor) to #value every child. That is deep! :) I don't think I answered the ?
A6 Curriculum gets in the way of seeing students as individuals. A few years ago, report card showed Kid O in Driver's Ed. How ridiculous. #resiliencechat
A6: I am unique and teach 1:1. I teach that every child matters. You will learn to read, write and speak. But we will walk together for success. We striive for our goal but it happens in their time. #resiliencechat

It's a tough one for sure. So many care so very much, and yet, I always wonder, have I done my best to ensure that each of us, from across our entire system care with everything, as it will take that type of commitment to support each child. #Resiliencechat We are in it together!

#Resiliencechat#Engage A: Inclusively connect to each person that should be part of our learning community.
#Resiliencechat#Engage B: Bring each person into the fold into order to demonstrate our passion and commitment to each person within our community!
