To be relevant you have to walk the walk. If I'm not modeling & making my own mistakes I can't help Ss. https://t.co/TwH2pyqpfj
and modeling means USING tech. Not being intimidated and being in control. Getting it wrong sometimes too.
Interesting could keyword be "sneaking." Do Ss have autonomy (when off task isn't wasteful)?
A3: use such as in the classroom to model it https://t.co/wLuR73iChT
Q3 How can we build school culture where teachers/students act and talk like great digital citizens?

Yeah, but you better hurry up! haha. Thanks
A3. Make sure your faculty is modeling appropriate
A3: Ss asking if they can have their own on Twitter regarding further lesson discussion! Admin that hold chats/Demo tech app!

Q4 What about students who struggle with balance? How can we support them?
Q4 patience n persistance might pair Ss up w a slightly stronger peer
The F2F makes the difference. Watching another's reaction affects how you approach the person.

I use that same terminology after going to a summit. It sounds much more permanent!
A3) modeling. Love the positive Twitter culture that has developed at my HS between SS, TS & admins. (Still working on parents)
So true! We don't look fwd to tech anymore (like we do PE!), just like we don't look fwd to paper.
A3: I agree with using social media and the like, in class to model and practice appropriate comms. Todays Meet is great.
So, is building citizenship same as building ?
A4- Ss who struggle with balance should not have more limits imposed on them. Find the true cause of imbalance.
Teaching about digital tattoo, intellectual property, evaluating sources, collaborating effectively. Overlap, not same
- true! It's a part of ALL of us... Ss, Ts, old and young https://t.co/1ghe7SS396
A3 stop pretending that social media isn't a part of their world and model its impact and how to use it for a cause and for good
I like the Tattoo, more fitting with the digital culture.
I'm thinking it's a discussion to have w my student council kiddos.
Snapshot examples of good Social media , hang in classroom, surround selves with positive examples
A3 Embrace every opportunity to expand it. Instead of asking ,"why" (are we doing this)?, ask "how" (will we embed/implement
This must soon be a given. Who would get away with, say, "I'm not into reading." https://t.co/bEUfLU8pbY
A3: We need Ts who do not fear tech, who are on board with it, & get the value of it, not just using it to impress admin.
Okay. So if I understand how to help build good citizens, do I get ?
Yes!!! I still tell my Ss there is nothing wrong with pencil/paper somedays though.
A4: recognize that if the S is struggling with balance there are many factors at play. Don't demonize the device
. absolutely! We need common frameworks but we needn't deny Ss access bc of lack of Ts comfort
A4 many of us have difficulty balancing of and our analog lives. Work together to learn to stay on life's balance beam.
. AND it connotes the POWER we all have in CHOOSING what to add to our digital presence!!
How did this happen? What structures did u guys use?
Anabel, what platform do you prefer for S blogs? Curious. https://t.co/PPP0P1awG5
A class blog where both students and teacher contribute is a great way to build
what is winning? Is it gold, blue or defeating fear and not quitting?
But adults, kids don't see this way. Just investigate 1 incident, realize that not understood.
A4 I had to deal w/a couple of cases that were extreme--it takes a village. Everyone needs to have shared expectations for S
When students misuse their voice we don't tell them they can't speak again. Technology is part of world, don't take away.
A4: Perhaps moving to a personalized model that offers pro/con scenarios to allow S to gain understanding at his pace.
So true Elizabeth and I find some Ts don't see/know to view as separate instruction.
90% of lessons last week were blocked--incl Forbes 30 Under 30 and an economist. Makes me want to get stone tablets.
we have school wide expectations (Falcon 45), based off Essential 45. First offense = warning, etc.
Why use tech in classrooms if solid pedagogy doesn't require it? What is 21st century learning?
We have to have balance at school & home. Setting boundaries, time limits, & healthy balance in all we do tech or otherwise
Interesting. . .first, pencil is tech (though low), so there's that.
Offer Ss practice w/tools like Todays Meet & PollEv to simulate Twitter & practice real-time commenting https://t.co/EKXlOe0Wt2
A2: is essential! Ts must help Ss use social media effectively (either way S will be using it).
A3: Balance can provide an image of equity but it's not about that- it's about having options and making choices.
You just highlight certain things, but cite sources still = cite source, don't bully = don't bully
You always hear "negative of Social Media is 'once you post, it's there forever.'" Guess what? It's the POSITIVE of SM, too
digital loses the humanity quickly. Ie Twitter conversations where people act rude
It's only a choice if using is the 1st choice! Avoiding tech is the "sky is falling approach!" https://t.co/HnPX0WlM6T
Yes, still not pervasive -- some teachers still think using tech is a choice
If you explicitly teach Ss how to carry over those skills into their digital lives, yes.
Someone in my feed mentioned having books, notebooks, AND devices open all at once. That's the jam right there.
yes --- be transparent --- I talk to my Ss abt my struggles with tech balance
A3 I keep telling teachers "We don't know what we don't know" Compare what you know now to what you didn't know last year
Yep, when we ignore it, it doesn't go away. I am hoping the power of this group can help address it https://t.co/zGmbAgeyO1
We can pretend this doesn't happen. It's a tough question.
A4: Try a "tech-free Tuesday" every once and a while. Digital detox.
A4: You support them like you would with other problems. said if Ss said 2+2=5 you don't stop doing math, do you?
A4: We have to listen to the students. We have to constant have convos about and its impact. It's a tough road for sure
A4: peer to peer mentoring may help. Starting from scratch and meeting them where they are is often best. https://t.co/EyKmY1Jfni
Q4 What about students who struggle with balance? How can we support them?
Question: Can great teach/learn happen apart from high-tech?
I also tell my S's google me to see what they find. Then we discuss what my presence looks like.
Teachers should be paid for the role they play in our society. Not fighting to be paid. - Bernie Sanders
isn't there a difference between being unsuccessful and not aiming for that?
I totally agree. We can learn with our students. When we show we are learners they will engage more https://t.co/aTizGN4MEx
yes --- be transparent --- I talk to my Ss abt my struggles with tech balance
A4 Don't suspend priv. Ss will have access away frm school anyways. Treat it like a S that needs behav. Support =ind. Intervention.
I see it as simply being a part of good citizenship.
a4: Pair & share. This builds character
And are probably more comfortable using that. Why not start where they are and grow from there? https://t.co/qBAfuPzJEM
A3b funny how schools don't have enough $ for tech but most Ss have a highly functioning computer in their back pocket
So if partnering w/learners from far away is part, how does building citizens play in?
A4 How can we define this as balance when it become ubiquitous in our classrooms and is a part of our students everyday life.
Q4 Do adults have a balance? I don't think so.
A4: provide them opportunities to see benefits of - personalized learning, other Ss as models, Ts modeling appropriate use
Exactly https://t.co/OL2UuBi7vT
A4: recognize that if the S is struggling with balance there are many factors at play. Don't demonize the device
Ready for Q5? Coming atchya in 1 minute!
Ss often need explicit instruction that people online are still people, evaluating a source is needed
True but easier and better for a kid to edit and collaborate with a Google Doc than pencil
Yes! 101!!! What Brian said! 🤓
A4:Ts first have to deal with the https://t.co/V2lNJJex50 many Ss can say their teacher did not use their phone in class (talk/txt)?
Personal Q here:
why are there so many NJ edus here?
Seems that NJ edus are PLN rock stars on Sat mornings.
Of course, early in IL
wonder if this can be initiated from outside the school too. What if parent wants it in school without it?
They likely use tech, but may not have knowledge to teach w/it.
A4: Fold in small, frequent opportunities to practice using tools that give you more control: Google Classroom, PollEv, Padlet
The disconnect is still with Ts pedagogy. Transferring ownership/ discovery to Ss.not intuitive
so why not use this tool?
that's where we would create targeted student behavior contracts, possibly with limited access to tech
A3: should be treated like standard citizenship in your school culture- incorporated into everything
And perhaps the imbalance comes from curiosity and investigation, not just time-wasting.
Absolutely. You have to train how to use a parachute before you skydive out of the plane. (For example)
Any tech that's causing a social disruption for Ss-I try and find a way to make it a edu tool instead-show the power, not the evil
What Brian said. https://t.co/Gu1U78XbzV
I don't see anything to differentiate. Be a good person online and in person
A4 Balance happens pretty organically if we don't put a prize on tech-based over trad learning.
We hate to limit access but sometimes we feel that's necessary for repeat offenders.
Student Council is a SUPERB place to begin! It's a needed addition & extension of 21st cen learning! https://t.co/tSSQZVrB1Y
I'm thinking it's a discussion to have w my student council kiddos.
A4: Instead of no, no, no, have an ongoing convo. My ss can tell you my stance on their use of tech. Learning always comes first.
A4. If necessary require Ss to go for a walk, measure rainfall, do something w/o digital learning) then apply to lesson
1/Because that's what top-level employers expect. It's part of life fabric.
A4 Do adults have a balance? I don't think so.
YES!! I do that as well. It’s an excellent learning experience!
A4 Instead of disciplining kids who are struggling, talk to them about how to manage it and make them aware
I've only used Kidblog but I'm curious about branching out. Ps concerned about safety.
A4: And BOOKS!!! https://t.co/biFp8yOU72
A4: By creating device free time, showing the balance between using tech and utilizing "old media", and modeling balance.
A4: I teach math and every year a student tells me that the calculator doesn't work because it gave them the wrong answer.
your profile is making me !
Yeah, this is where differentiation, unless because of age, should not occur.
Love what someone said earlier-when you're in the classroom use that face-to-face time. Digital learning can have balance
A5: Get them connected by showing them the resources that are available. Start small. It can be overwhelming.
Introducing Ss to digital tools early & modeling best practices sets up successful digital
A4 Provide them highly structured, authentic tasks using tech to produce new, real, original content
Q5 How about tentative teachers? How can we reassure them when they fear tech is too much of a distraction and not worth trying?
Speaking of balance-- we're all spending our SATURDAY MORNING on tech. Balance? It's perspective.
but isn't the point of to eliminate the difference in expectation?
I believe so. A culture of curiosity, risk taking & respect is necessary regardless of tech
is global citizenship, not local/national only.
We all struggle, so let's admit that to kids and learn together https://t.co/WrNSv39sKq
A4 Do adults have a balance? I don't think so.
But why separate that? Why not make it all inclusive?
A4 I would give that person personalized modeling... maybe a buddy to work collaboratively with.. https://t.co/l00reafksX
Q4 What about students who struggle with balance? How can we support them?
Yes. Exactly! One of the big reasons why I love having :) https://t.co/crOTh5kX14
Good for 1st gr. to learn to be good online audience. That can transfer to older and appropriate responses.
A4) use S leaders to model! Balance is imp too! Tech should enhance instruction not replace it
Okay, so dig footprint/tatoo I get, eval. sources, yes. Collab and IP seem good practice (tech not needed).
Yes-that's the best-incorporating all of it at the same time.
A4: after so many discussions, sometimes u have to be straight-up with Ss - ur in class to learn, ur use of Tech isn't helping u
Yes, as Ts, we have to be relentless in talking and modeling for Ss. https://t.co/p4gmhYHG97
A4: We have to listen to the students. We have to constant have convos about and its impact. It's a tough road for sure
people who vote for are basically people who get aroused while bathing their children.
Agreed. The student voice piece is so critical when getting Ts to understand that Ss can be trusted w tech.
A4: Build relationships with Ss and show them the consequences. They need to see know the why. Model use for learning.
A4: Remembering to teach that Tech is another form of comms, & there's turn taking aspect w/those inside and outside their devices
I agree! I think most people make mistakes with their - have to make it part of the learning!
Yes, give them ownership and they will establish their own guidelines https://t.co/4JLI82r4ym
Sounds like a nice connection to to me: let Ss own their learning space.
Is 'solid' pedagogy tech dependent in classrooms today?
Q4: Ss spend lots of time n digital content w/out adult help. Ts&Admins need 2 engage Ss personally about the content they access
A5: Create purposeful Ts partnerships, mentorships, PLCs so that no Ts ever feel like they are going it along - collaboration key
Plus, it looks wicked smart!
A5: help them! Baby Steps! No one ran a marathon by putting on shoes & stepping out for a quick 26.2 https://t.co/QYsKjMw9YP
A4: Requiring a balance to complete task/assignment. Balance creates more thoughtful learners.
2/Keeping kids away from tech means they're not ready for tech expectations in life.
I like this idea. Have them google themselves too and see if they think what the find is alright
A4 We must capitalize on teaching moments w/ . Acknowledge learning opp's & engage in open discussion.
A3) And let kids demonstrate what THEY do. They often have ease with video, etc., that we might learn from. https://t.co/qDdn1wZdXK
A3: Adults need to be present in digital world the Ss inhabit. Demonstrate what we do there. (Mostly talk politics!)
Well, I'm ecstatic in my PJs! 🤓😂Thank you! Isn't this a great ? https://t.co/qjDPpc1d1B
your profile is making me !
5 stars so far
The world's first commercial quantum product & my eBook "The Holographic Universe"
https://t.co/RnsYVLnPkl …
I think humanity is losing the humanity. Hence the reason not to separate.
A5 TEACH your tentative Ts just like you'd teach your tentative Ss! It's invigorating!
Because Ss don't always realize the same rules apply to online interactions. That's our job as educators.
Funny part, there's a picture from my Myspace account that will be there forever. Luckily it's an appropriate one.
Thank you! I may take you up on that! Looking for what specifically worked/didn't work in transition to 1:1
I'd like to think that's a strength of our campus as well;
I'm with those who say that there is no balance to be had. It's organic. That said, ongoing convos about tech use must occur.
3/Tech's never the focus. Objective's the focus. Tech's the tool or differentiator
A5- Tentative teachers need better developed PD, more support, or to realize they, as teachers, are failing to LEARN
All this makes me want to livechat/livetweet with a class. But alas it's all blocked. Sigh
21st century skills feel like every century skills to me. Tech is vehicle, not driver.
A4 Balance is the key to everything! Use tech as a tool to enhance lessons, not replace passionate T's! Do that & all is good!
Well said, Lisa! https://t.co/fRnzrotkoI
A4: Build relationships with Ss and show them the consequences. They need to see know the why. Model use for learning.
Many students don't know it's Okay to google themselves -I asked the question anonymously and many said yes and said - sorry
So true. That always comes to mind when talking to Ss about
A4) We have a classroom tech team who works w/others who need help; they help to keep each other on task
for me it's the struggle between connectedness and mindfulness and they're often at odds
A4: Honest convo w/ Ss about strategies & tips that help US can also help our Ss. Model balance in the classroom - tech is a tool
A5: Baby steps. I taught 1 teacher over a 30 minute period, with her Ss helping. She did (5) Kahoots the next day.
A5: Start small & build. Scaffold the tech like you would scaffold math. Ts have a lot going on, give them time to catch up.
A5: In my district, we have given Ts opportunity for PD and showed the tech integration models (e.g., SAMR and TPACK)
A4: treat this like all citizenship issues. Find the source of the problem & address it. This is what being a good citizen is about
A2 Being a good is the same as being a good citizen. Beauty of @in K-2 is Ss learn both simultaneously
A4-Ss build the dig cit survey for the school. Then the health class made awareness projects. It helped provide powerful insight
QUESTION 5
https://t.co/Mj4wSj1yaQ
Q5 How about tentative teachers? How can we reassure them when they fear tech is too much of a distraction and not worth trying?
"Highly structured" is key! It's too easy to expect that digital natives can just swim in the open ocean.
A5: Meet teachers where they are. Offer personalized support (coteach, coaching, etc)
A5: Provide Ts with resources, one step at a time, as to not overwhelm. Ts need scaffolded instruction, too!
If T wants very best learning for every Ss then tech is often useful but not always necessary.
Yep. Depending on the age, that can be interesting.
I want my Students to be GOOD citizens PERIOD. Digitally or not... Model and remind them no difference between world alway be GOOD
That happened to a teacher at my school https://t.co/DzZhRa9fwu I wrote about it. Inspiring! https://t.co/v61krOdLYi
Funny part, there's a picture from my Myspace account that will be there forever. Luckily it's an appropriate one.
A5- Poor PD is the reason most Ts don't try something new.
A4 Again, lead by example. Not hiding use of social media as Ts, but showing how it can be used responsibly
great teaching/learning happening long before tech ... Need to stop redefining
Okay. So is citizenship but through lens of tech?
A5: By showing/telling them the many benefits our Ss enjoy by flattening walls, leaving silo of classroom & collaborating globally
Teachers need 2 embrace tech as powerful tool in tool belt. When is it best tool 2 enhance learning? https://t.co/QPD4U5G4pI
A3: We need Ts who do not fear tech, who are on board with it, & get the value of it, not just using it to impress admin.
Are we on A5? We do badges and find something that feels "safe" for every level!
A5 Ss as tech ambassadors worked for me. We all know who the S dig leaders are; send them to solve the next prob a tentative T has.
A4 turn it in to a mini lesson, throw a scenario out to Ss as if you need help, have them brainstorm solutions, then explain
Need to regularly work with parents & students on proper . Administrators & staff must model correct usage daily.
A5: What percentage of tentative Ts are learning here today? Invite them over for coffee and get them on
love it when I'm able to ; haven't been as active on last few months
THIS makes me so happy because dates finally work for me!!!
Lead by example, it is that simple. https://t.co/Mb6XfrMUma
The best way to teach digital citizenship is to model it yourself. Lead by example, demonstrate the expectations.
Hard to live in the moment when you're wondering what the rest of the world is instagramming at the moment
Agree and often very frustrating but haven't most public school libraries had a "blocked" section 4 yrs?
A5: Encourage small steps, provide support, and track the data
Don’t wait until MS and HS! provides a great framework to follow K-12! https://t.co/eBKDIEkeBb
Introducing Ss to digital tools early & modeling best practices sets up successful digital
I tell them, "Put your phone in temptation mode," (upside down on desk/avoid temptation). I do the same
A5: have to believe in them. May take them much longer to "see the light" but if they experience the power they will come around
Need to drop the digital label and focus on making GREAT citizens no matter where they are! Good is Good
Badges = microcredentialling/ differentiation
https://t.co/WIvnAfGdvb
Are we on A5? We do badges and find something that feels "safe" for every level!
A5 Show tent T your fav tech integration and how it made your T life better! Who doesn't want to improve? Wait, don't answer that!
Yes, precisely. Building on existing citizenship with skills needed in a digital environment.
A5- I agree with "lead by example" but at some point Ts must be expected to try something new.
A5) I started a Think Tech Thursday for Ts for 1/2 hour after school where we review possible tech tools & share ideas
I am still amazed that I can be connected to so many, in so many places.
We used twitter to track Ferguson and other current events - a tricky thing to do -but such awesome convos - Ss were looking on own
A3 Love the idea of online portfolio. So imp. for Ss to understand concept of social presence being global.
https://t.co/kll9QzG1VG
A3 Provide more ways for kids to create. They'll be more motivated to build a thoughtful online portfolio to share their ideas.
A5 Proper PD. Integrate into daily practice, shared docs, staff calendars in allow time for Ts to share best practices
Why isn't that more of a priority among Ts? What are Ts priorities? Getting kids ready for work?
A5: I guess I'm one of those teachers because it's a distraction from my math lesson and the skills that need to be learned
A5 As an admin, begin practicing what we preach, use tech to comm w Ts, integrate it at staff mtgs & normalize it w/in culture
A5 leaders need to be in there alongside teachers who are trying new tech or new to tech
A5: Ensure Ts that their embrace of regardless of their skills demonstrates a curiosity from which Ss reap immense benefits
Agree completely, especially if you can work w same kids - how cool for a homeroom teacher to provide that digital locker
Yes! Sometimes we PUNISH because it's easier vs DISCIPLINE which they can learn from it https://t.co/4TKLh52Qsj
A4 Instead of disciplining kids who are struggling, talk to them about how to manage it and make them aware
A5: When practice the ease of tech & set the expectations w/the ideology that I'm here to help & grow w/u, they'll do it!
Q5:Model usage as admins, Use digtools pervasively n PD, Honor small steps, publicly praise small wins
explain: don't say mean things to people- don't say mean things to people online?
A4 ss need lots of check in support as the gain ownership, guidance imperative as Ss gain skills https://t.co/9yc29KuHou
I've got it open to read after Thanks!
A5- If I just "led by example" my own kids would never eat vegetables. Sometimes dft methods are needed.
Maybe. Depends on outcome. Collab. with peeps far away, yes. But, give me F2F oppty (1/2)
Yes! They may be digital natives, but we need to teach them the behavior and skills that go with https://t.co/zlG1DzGpxQ
Hi. Kids understand digital citizenship, but they are still kids. Guiding them helps teach them balance.
Are you going to in Atlanta in June? Could Finally get to meet you face to face!
I like to hold a tech smackdown in my class... I want to know what my students are using... I learn too. https://t.co/p1TP9c0HtN
A3) And let kids demonstrate what THEY do. They often have ease with video, etc., that we might learn from. https://t.co/qDdn1wZdXK
A3: Adults need to be present in digital world the Ss inhabit. Demonstrate what we do there. (Mostly talk politics!)
A5 give a simple positive task - sharing good news to a school hashtag - something everybody can appreciate
A4: Tech is only tool. Focus on msg, ideas, goals. In ESL, blogging started as way to improve Eng but so many more lessons learned
Principal at 1 of my schools has monthly staff meetings. She gives me 30 min to teach new tech piece each month.
A5: show the endless possibilities and the ways to "stay safe" as a professional and for their Ss https://t.co/MPX6JPJtaL
Q5 How about tentative teachers? How can we reassure them when they fear tech is too much of a distraction and not worth trying?
I know! I am in China and played Scrabble with my 75 yr old mum in NZ last week!
A5) PD, peer-observation, tech support group 😬 and time! Our kids will lead the way w tech so jump on train & enjoy the ride!
Exactly. Task avoidance appears with traditional and digital tasks equally.
So true Jeremy! I'm conversing with state reps now on funding for tech. 3 times I tried no wifi https://t.co/WuczmdAQUE
This must soon be a given. Who would get away with, say, "I'm not into reading." https://t.co/bEUfLU8pbY
A3: We need Ts who do not fear tech, who are on board with it, & get the value of it, not just using it to impress admin.
A5 Show them that tech can be an amazing learning tool. When they see how great it can be the will see the benefits > costs
seesaw can be made public or password protected.
A5: Small steps, takes time, mindset doesn't happen overnight. A little learning goes a long way. Ts can learn from their Ss too!
Lead by example needs to go along with talking about what we do and why we do it https://t.co/aPoL75t5hR
A5- If I just "led by example" my own kids would never eat vegetables. Sometimes dft methods are needed.
Lead Learner is a purpose I take very seriously. is probably the area in which I the most deliberate.
A5: Many urban Ss don't have tech at home so they see the technology at school and think it is a toy.
don't think Ss need discrete tech skills but rather integrated skill dev through meaning making
to reflect on work with someone, and I'll likely take it every time. :) (2/2)
So very best learning is tech dependent then?
LOVE that Dawn --- sometimes it's all in the WORDS --- THANKS!!
A7 Ed. coaches getting into the classroom and helping tenative T's develop and execute a lesson would help the T grow with tech!
I agree. They need use more than ever!
A5: Let your Ss excitement and output speak for itself. Also share share share!!
Fantastic! In everything, we are teach & model. Teach SS why dig cit is important & best use of tools. https://t.co/GHl2PVRRNE
When students misuse their voice we don't tell them they can't speak again. Technology is part of world, don't take away.
so of course we fall short, we still aim for creating good citizens yes?
TT USA 17:12
1.
2.Bankroll Fresh
3.
4.Pat Conroy
5.
6.COME ON YOU SPURS
Agreed, sometimes we Ts are our own worst enemies by modeling bad habits.
Also, I still like using journals, hand-writing. Does something diff in my brain.
So true. And how we communicate online must reflect that understanding! https://t.co/1XerP374RL
is global citizenship, not local/national only.
Me: Getting a kid to realize dreams. At highest level possible. That includes tech.
& PD for Ts can be embedded in instruction when a Librarian leads the way! https://t.co/rXRVwn3H1s
A1. An important key is that our Ts have to understand first. has to be designed for this before Ts work w/Ss.
S kept txting friends during class; took out my phone when S asked a Q & started txting B4 answering; class said Whoa! Rude!
I have been asking for this for years! Your baby step is my neonatal wiggle.
A5: Fear may come from knowing less then your Ss about tech. Risk taking is pt of being a great teacher.
Part of learning is making mistakes, recognizing them, and moving forward https://t.co/RatxFxXI1P
so of course we fall short, we still aim for creating good citizens yes?
Great point...Ss can google something inapprop, or draw picture of it. Not right thing to do either way https://t.co/M9n1NXbmeW
Need to drop the digital label and focus on making GREAT citizens no matter where they are! Good is Good
A4: all learning for students should be personalized, so should digital citizenship. systemic supports should be in place for needs
Maybe teach about leaders v followers! applies here!
we can be F2F via GHO ? I know -- not the same...
A5: Sometimes all Ts need is a nudge. Short PD, tech options. It's not always fear, it's that Ts don't know that they don't know.
A4 include into lessons don't make it forbidden fruit embrace its benefits reward positive use https://t.co/IGqe8giUYZ
Q4 What about students who struggle with balance? How can we support them?
Absolutely. No one technique is best all time. Imp to remember when using tech.
That's how I do my best work!! https://t.co/ZJowjFhSE0
Someone in my feed mentioned having books, notebooks, AND devices open all at once. That's the jam right there.
So like the idea of calling a digPortfolio a digital locker. Going to steal that!
Exciting to see your work authentically public - more meaningful lesson than "would your grandma approve"
I share my blog w/Ss.Was asked to write a piece for PBS in using comics in classroom.Ss helped me write it. World bigger than class
A5: Using the SAMR model, I can show teachers where they are at, not to shame but to inspire to teach above the line.
is now trending! Woot woot!
This is challenging, but there is no reason why we can't reach for it https://t.co/eEShHnfjvQ
A4: all learning for students should be personalized, so should digital citizenship. systemic supports should be in place for needs
A5: Invite them into model classes to see what it can look like & PD for T's how to build their so they understand the power.
A5: Show don't tell.Open "techie" classes: T to T, non-threatening way to show tech deepens learning&device expertise not essential
A5: Tentative Teachers must understand they can seek additional assistant..... Even from the students... Without being a "Gotcha"
maybe could offer some insights
That's def true. And a good point about balance. https://t.co/4428cQ1MXn
Also, I still like using journals, hand-writing. Does something diff in my brain.
Certainly not. But show me a class that day after day engages Ss and prepares for
Usage, maybe. But top level don't all show . Seen Trump's Twitter feed?
A5: Giving teachers that permission to struggle and not have it perfect will help them build confidence through their mistakes.
Exactly. We are learning in a place where you CAN have it all!
So the skills required in the 21st century are no different than what has been required in the past?
A5: Share success stories!
Do you agree? Is taking away a device from our digcitizens the same as taking away our passport and not allowing us to travel?
:) People blame the tech. No one loves their iPhone more than me. I model how to behave politely w it.
It's a shame that learning ISN'T personal. The other end is standardized... exactly what we don't need!
Probably. Being teachers, we never thought to ask them:(
me too --- research says handwritten notes better than device
A5) Lead by example, help them to understand kids are already using tech, part of our world, need to get on board & reach learners
A5: it starts with trust. You have to build a campus culture of competence and risk taking. That risk taking produces results
Sure. And because Ts, for whatever reason, didn't see need/why of it.
A5 Be honest. Their fears are valid. You have to prepare to integrate tech. If your classroom management lacks, it will implode
A5-lesson plan models need to change. Inquiry, depth, student-centered, collaborative, not rote details and memorization.
A7 Hold Appy hour for your staff. Introduce 1-2 new apps and teach them how to use. Make it fun!
This of course means digital has advantages too... connectivity!
Speaks to the issue of when kids are old enough to use xyz. They're ready as long as is part of it. https://t.co/yHZZ4cVl8z
A2 Being a good is the same as being a good citizen. Beauty of @in K-2 is Ss learn both simultaneously
Word "require" may be a little ambiguous or at least not ubiquitous to me in this context. Still get it https://t.co/Kh99GzKV6k
Why use tech in classrooms if solid pedagogy doesn't require it? What is 21st century learning?
A5: Have them do a tech based lesson allow them to struggle horribly and then tell them that it is "okay" as admin.
A5: Reward > Risk. Tech --> Engagement --> Learning --> Achievement
Technology provides a tool/ platform. Excellent Teachers are still the key component for bringing content and student together.
A5: there's value in Ts and Ss being near to one another in ability. Think Vygotsky and Zone of Proximal Development.
off topic: THANK you for all the feedback you've been giving on my new https://t.co/vsISbJhsWn site. So grateful! Best PLN EVER!!
Perhaps that's where the comes in; giving Ss opportunities to reflect on learning
A5 teachers have to be willing to step outside their boxes and meet their students where they are
A5: This is where I have difficulty understanding. If an edu is willing to learn, that's one thing. Who's responsibility is this?
We are moving toward personalized end of the spectrum we are making progress is an expert at this! https://t.co/3Ue6dWBRCk
It's a shame that learning ISN'T personal. The other end is standardized... exactly what we don't need!
Teachers should be paid for the role they play in our society. Not fighting to be paid. - Bernie Sanders
I hadn't thought of it that way - good paradigm. So easy to be a follower online and off.
A5. Model uses in own classroom, support Ts to take risks in the classroom. Tech coaches can really be imperative to this process.
I think the fear is that being "bad" in a contained classroom = not good. Being "bad" online = dangerous. https://t.co/feknDT66Ao
so of course we fall short, we still aim for creating good citizens yes?
A5: Invite those resistant Ts to Pineapple chart classrooms where tech is being used in transformative ways!
A5: Having administration who support and encourage and foster a digital presence is invaluable!
A5: This is not hard, it is just about the approach...
A5: Support and model. Start small. It's not either /or. It's AND.
Indeed. Agreed. BUT even an anti-example's a teaching moment. For my son and students
A5: is it distracting Ts or Ss??Ts need practice to gain comfort w/tech&pedagogy must support learning w/tech
A1: Digital citizenship begins when teachers provide accessible digital text so curriculum is meaningful https://t.co/zmG7mOS3KU
And letting tech be the driver means the same thing.
Model and tell kids what you are doing and why. Metacognition is important https://t.co/d0mPQbeKrH
A5. Model uses in own classroom, support Ts to take risks in the classroom. Tech coaches can really be imperative to this process.
A5: Model and encourage risk taking. Failure is OK, if learning happens. Fail forward. Celebrate success along the way.
A5 following up...dispell the digital native myth. We are all immigrants when it comes to digital learning. Level the playing field
A5: We can't ignore the opportunities that technology has to offer our Ss. We must realize it's not about us it is about our Ss!
A5: We are the Information Age. We all have a digital footprint. Why not make it a digital portfolio?
A5: Find an entry point like G-Classroom or that have a smaller learning curve & high Ss engagement! Work together!
This saddens me! No available grants? Cell phones are to use in . Let's bounce ideas! https://t.co/ZvzL31oYF5
A5: Many urban Ss don't have tech at home so they see the technology at school and think it is a toy.
Relationship first for and for everything. https://t.co/bs9KztRfI9
A4: Build relationships with Ss and show them the consequences. They need to see know the why. Model use for learning.
A5) Also district needs to be involved, initiating change & growth, providing PD, guiding, embracing
A5: If Ss are learning, Ss are growing.Ts have to make sure that the iPad isn't the teacher bcuz they still need authentic teaching
A5-PD can't always be in school. Show off blogs, Twitter, Pinterest--places where Ts can learn at their own pace on their own time.
So true! It is OK to try and fail. Keep persevering! https://t.co/BtZMY4l3C7
A5: Giving teachers that permission to struggle and not have it perfect will help them build confidence through their mistakes.
Social norms and behaviors are part of all societies, tech or personal, and students can be taught to navigate successfully.
So, I think that best teach/learn happens when tech is used, and when it isn't.
The relations based on quick start-up lasts in decades. So be quick : inbox me
A5: Leaders need to model and support. Goes back to culture of school. Is it one of growth mindset?
created a challenge for his ts in Feb. based on SAMR. Huge hit!
A5 have Ss help reluctant Ts implement tech, they love the role reversal
How do you mean Elizabeth? And can you speak Latin? Because that would be mirabile
A3c tech publicizes Ss life mistakes & learning- know that Ss will make mistakes. Teach them when they make mistakes
Q6 is going to inspire you! Get ready. 1 minute away.
is an amazing tool! 👊🏼👍🏼📱 https://t.co/0O4GPClrHc
A5: Baby steps. I taught 1 teacher over a 30 minute period, with her Ss helping. She did (5) Kahoots the next day.
Tech means I don't kill rainforests. Except it's blocked, so
The best learning happens when the learners are engaged and excited - tech or no tech https://t.co/0NdoLS9lV4
So, I think that best teach/learn happens when tech is used, and when it isn't.
A6- I love when Ss contact authors or researchers of our readings to ask for more insight into their work!
Problem with digital/ SM is so many adult behaving badly and poor models, there is your fix get the adults to change behavior
A5: This is where I have difficulty understanding. If an edu is willing to learn, that's one thing. Whose responsibility is this?
Thanks. That's really helpful to me. I was looking for something diff. in feed, but shouldn't have.
MOST of my good PD is independent and online. I learn very little from "experts" my district brings in. https://t.co/NWsaFRiGqb
A5-PD can't always be in school. Show off blogs, Twitter, Pinterest--places where Ts can learn at their own pace on their own time.
A5 We must create an environment where making mistakes and taking risks is OK.
You know it's all about that bass...I mean balance! Tech is a tool. Know when 2 use it 2 enhance learning. https://t.co/xzY7oL19Jy
Love what someone said earlier-when you're in the classroom use that face-to-face time. Digital learning can have balance
Haha, there are a bunch of us still stuck on Q1 and 2:) usual lag:)
I wouldn't get through my week with it, or !
A5: Use the SAMR model and make it part of goal setting.
A6: Any moment where one S helps another; better yet, when Ss help the Ts out, too!
(I'm just assuming that's a hashtag). Enough already. You don't ban tools for learning. https://t.co/4Y31gOtobX
All this makes me want to livechat/livetweet with a class. But alas it's all blocked. Sigh
A Ts it is our responsibility to inspire kids to learn, not to force them to learn https://t.co/YDm5uTdaH2
A5: This is where I have difficulty understanding. If an edu is willing to learn, that's one thing. Whose responsibility is this?
Q6 Inspire us! Share a favorite moment you've witnessed with a teacher of student.
A6: Ss joining in a chat about so that we could get their perspective.
The entire country is ashamed because of a mad Fan
Is this a critique of the planned PD as much as a praise of your own initiative though?
A5 All Districts need TIS teachers not network techs telling teachers how to use tech & dig cit
Have no FEAR -- put Ss at center stage, ask them, have them do presentations w/ content, component .
A5: Also is it an add-on culture? Keep doing this and add that. Need to really evaluate what's important.
In my eyes, sometimes yes, sometimes no.
Quality Teachers are always valued and provide a value. If an app can serve as replacement, there are larger issues.
A5 By remembering that Ss come first. Tech is a part of their lives&we must support Ss in this as we do with anything else
A6: Teacher in 44th yr, asked to learn Kahoot. Her students & I collaborated. She went home & made (5) quizzes that night.
A5 Not a choice. Embrace it! Make school fun!
T told me he tried google classroom, put a link for Ss, link didn't work= "I won't use that anymore." :( Help Ts w/
Q6 T using Google Classroom & Ss learning appropriate online interaction & even sharing learning. More Ts using now!
Let's also make sure Ss understand their rights as creators & publishers-help them choose how to protect & share their work
It's a new way of communicating/generational. We blame. We need to understand. They're the future
Need my chat friends... Any interview scoring rubric examples/resources?
they are equally dangerous, if not addressed
A6 I cant wait until i graduate Elon University in 2017 so i can have these kinds of moments as a real teacher
I'm referring to educators here. The ones who are hesitant to use tech.
A6 My favorite KNG story regarding permission happened in my class a few years ago, blogged here: https://t.co/IqWUC5Br2e
Ss may know how 2 Snapchat, but need 2 learn 2 research carefully, respond thoughtfully
If Ts have rich curriculum, then they can create amazing lessons that leverage tech. Ss are rewarded w an amazing learning exper.
This goes SO fast! I want deeper discussions, but I'm missing things! https://t.co/qR82ZYEb9b
Haha, there are a bunch of us still stuck on Q1 and 2:) usual lag:)
A5: Fear can only be fought with exposure. PD involving practice, practice, practice.
Yes those are on the go-to list!
When Ss realize this, it makes it easier for them to respect others' rights online.
A6: Just yesterday, "Ms. McLean I have 2 show you this update 2 Google Docs...you're going to love it!" I did & we played together.
Excited for my book to come out in April. Important for educators to model appropriate use of social media https://t.co/OXubW7hgyL
Thx for great discussions & ideas. Off to start my Saturday. Have a good day, everyone!
Teach/learn:aha moments when creativity enters a space of low/high/no tech
A6 I use SM to share what we do; the other day, I got to tell 2 Ss that a picture of them sciencing broke the internet. Big smiles.
Good point! Small wins lead to larger ones especially when some are reluctant to try. https://t.co/4CeMkhaoXi
A5: Find an entry point like G-Classroom or that have a smaller learning curve & high Ss engagement! Work together!
Agreed. Not only does it make them comfortable, it can empower them to feel supported + take more risks->culture shift
A5: I all for tech in the classroom but I have yet to see it done gracefully in an urban education classroom w/below grade level Ss
I good point. But I've found that it is easier to drop focus in GHO, seems less "real"
A6: There have been so many with this year. Always cool when classes connect, kids respond each others posts, etc.
so smart for you to be on Emma
LAST QUESTION
https://t.co/XXsWcU5C4F
Q6 Inspire us! Share a favorite moment you've witnessed with a teacher of student.
A6 saw Classflow lesson in 5th grade math. Best lesson ever!
A6: Seeing my Ss work collaboratively in google docs, making presentations and having their work published for the class to see.
Not a choice to use tech, but a BIG choice in HOW and WHAT to use! https://t.co/9eMNiB9gmE
A5 Not a choice. Embrace it! Make school fun!
Good morning Late to the party/Carol ELA Consultant from Long Island
We have opportunities to reach new heights with technological developments:
Content, Creation, Learning, Expansion
. if you become president can i get some free Trump steaks? i've always wanted to try ferret meat.
Yep. No one tool, never all the time.
That a great idea. Of course you would use to do that, because it's the best school blog:)
We know learning is a process. It's doesn't have to always be public. We can teach from safe places (walled gardens) as a start pt
Hey ! Jumping in for the last ten minutes. How's it going? What's the Q/topic?
so true, with the "add-this" aspect, nothing is ever mastered to the point of using to full potential-need to slow down!
A6 Ss & Ts discussing digital citizenship through an edchat. Check the conversation at .
All about moving the bar right? And changing the conversation.
That's what makes it so powerful. There's no faster way to becoming a citizen of the world. https://t.co/puVtVifl7d
is global citizenship, not local/national only.
A5: I think it's powerful when Ss tell how tech has helped them. Possibly find a way for Ss to
We should treat this as part of how we teach character.Simple, constant:)
And gr8 use at sch w/sch provided wifi/data access but for too many, connection is severed at last bell. https://t.co/3ET7dFU2Bt
And are probably more comfortable using that. Why not start where they are and grow from there? https://t.co/qBAfuPzJEM
A3b funny how schools don't have enough $ for tech but most Ss have a highly functioning computer in their back pocket
There is an evolutionary process. Guide and support them on their journey though tech integration. https://t.co/95OvurAu2F
A6: Love to work with Ts who want their Ss in room to learn tech with them. They say the Ss are their resource when I leave.
And Ts need to remember to listen https://t.co/8PwTOahIhN
A5: I think it's powerful when Ss tell how tech has helped them. Possibly find a way for Ss to
A6: This week in , a dozen Ts got on Twitter for 1st time and discussed good, bad, and ugly of SM &
What she said! https://t.co/q9qp6lfoui
A5: We can't ignore the opportunities that technology has to offer our Ss. We must realize it's not about us it is about our Ss!
Boil them down to basics, and I say no. I'll share a post I wrote for in a sec.
A6 Ss analyzed front page of website on MLK.They all said it was credible from checklist. Turns out it is from white power group.
A6: Hearing Ss ask each other where/how they learned something!
Need to exit a bit early. If you could check out my Ss' blogs, pls msg me and I'll share addresses. Perhaps we can connect our Ss
Side chats are about connecting, thinking, deepening. Like the breaks at a conference. :)
A6) Blessed in that I see great Digcit daily! Learners are empowered, Ts & Ss using
A6: Using S made tutorials to assess understanding, as well as speaking and metacognitive skills.
Teacher was using and Ss were responding to Qs in comments in 6 different languages
Those Ts may feel uncomfortable w/the content themselves. Need to provide learning opps for Ts, admin, parents too
Learning goals must always come first. Is it adding on or is it about changing and evolving? https://t.co/pbhqxORdgR
A5: Also is it an add-on culture? Keep doing this and add that. Need to really evaluate what's important.
it's been a pleasure ! Will be back nxt wk. Thank u for great learning and thinking. :)
Agreed. My whole tech journey...and my book...were because a student challenged me, asked "Why?" I'm here for him.
A6- Ss participated in a social studies chat with our 8th grade teachers & admin
agree but emphasis seems to be on bullying versus cyber bullying for districts.
A6- A 9th grader of mine helped her older sister find scholarly research in online academic journals!
Some of my Ts BARELY master sharing docs in Drive. Others develop new tools every day. SUCH a range! https://t.co/6LZ2o6HdJt
Yep. No one tool, never all the time.
A6: We have almost 100% of staff on Twitter! Includes secretaries, custodians, & lunch aides!! Telling our story
A6 Ss regularly talk with me about interesting topics and articles they've discovered and then they offer to DM the link to me!
A5 We as educators do Botha e all the answers. Ask your Ss, "How else can we do this?" Explore new tech tools. Learn together!
Power boom drop the mic truth https://t.co/pCyE6l4PKy
The best learning happens when the learners are engaged and excited - tech or no tech https://t.co/0NdoLS9lV4
So, I think that best teach/learn happens when tech is used, and when it isn't.
learning... with the tech?
"" shows up as trending topic in United States at rank 1.
Yes, need to provide positive opportunities w/o forcing it. Leaders can be available, open, and positive. https://t.co/nEwwqy48Dv
Those Ts may feel uncomfortable w/the content themselves. Need to provide learning opps for Ts, admin, parents too
This is only my second twitter chat ever and i love them! It's interesting hearing from so many teachers!
That is true. Key is we must pair anti's with true examples. :)
model, encourage, involve in movement from no-tech to low-tech to see how engaging tech can be in classrm. A5
Haha, my 11 year old just yelled at TV showing Perfect Pitch 2 "Ha! You plagiarized that! Jessie J wrote that!"
A6: When my non ELL help my ELL navigate through & questions of "how do I" and "can you show me again" are being asked
We have the coolest job on the planet! Embrace all that makes it awesome.
! Firewalls=distrust of & models fear of the big,bad internet! Even ES Ss know to hack https://t.co/frB3ExnYu4
(I'm just assuming that's a hashtag). Enough already. You don't ban tools for learning. https://t.co/4Y31gOtobX
All this makes me want to livechat/livetweet with a class. But alas it's all blocked. Sigh
True. Unfortunately, too often, this learning doesn't correlate well with schools...
Yes...and from what I've seen I somewhat agree. What would you change? https://t.co/MYaSfRhz0W
A5: I all for tech in the classroom but I have yet to see it done gracefully in an urban education classroom w/below grade level Ss
A:5 provide experiences, offer support/don't hover, have them observe collab & enhancement of S learning https://t.co/pxKRIT7KU6
Q5 How about tentative teachers? How can we reassure them when they fear tech is too much of a distraction and not worth trying?
A6 It warms my heart to see learners help each other w/tech issues. It is a skill to learn -- to seek help from multiple sources.
A6 A student was so excited about his work that he shared it with the principal via Google... the principal then provided feedback.
- Please, where do you think Teenagers get there addiction? Adults who have their face glued to a phone since the T was a C.
Love when students share, but HATE when they're made to stand up and do a presentation. No engagement there. Solution?
A6) When S couldn't figure out something on a site; another Ss said, "Don't worry Mrs K, I've got this." Ss helping Ss inspires me
A5:Starting small is key! Ask Ss what they know. Have them show you. Ss are using the tech in more ways than Ts.
A6: surprised when S skyped my class from the beach. Friend put her laptop where she normally sat in class.
Charging the batteries alone. . .
A6: a favorite moment was when Ss asked "we're allowed to do that?" in shock and excitement
The "aha" moment when a student learns something new - the excitement and "hey look what I found!"
A5: this is about changing the mindset. IMO, if it's too hard then it's time to go. Sick of poor excuses & Luddite attitudes
A6: Went into a class to help create SOP's & shared a non example, 1 S said, "That's scary!" Yep! https://t.co/sS9VBXWq3x
A6 Interesting problem-solving ex:
WiFi down
Class: bldg presence
Ss & I pulled out phones to tether & be wifi hotspots!
A6: I have one with a S and a P. S showed parent volunteer how to tweet during .
A6 allow Ss freedom to bring their ideas to class, they model & explain new tools for class to use
LOVE this! https://t.co/yEYGcFD7zd
A6: a favorite moment was when Ss asked "we're allowed to do that?" in shock and excitement
Absolutely! Tech gives chance to be flexible w work. I create goals, Ss change to fit fav tech
A6: when tech reluctant teacher saw the value in and created one for parents at curriculum night. Big hit! Awesome!
create only instability in the country
Harry Kane
A6 by far my fav is when students design a project to make others aware of a prob-start a hashtag, write a post, create a campaign
These moments are too rare in trad. schools. https://t.co/pImGOSQBA7
The "aha" moment when a student learns something new - the excitement and "hey look what I found!"
A5. With lots of support. I've found that being in the room helps a ton. Sometimes the 'net' has more to do with safety than wifi.
A5 - Ts need time and guidance to do this. Ds need to provide help otherwise tech fragmentation
A6 When Ss got excited about having a school twitter account to share their experiences & wanted to learn how to tweet
A6: My 10yr old went to class 1 day & used EasyBib. T asked all about it. T scrapped her plan & switched to EasyBib for all.
A6 My 5th grade Ss used Google Classroom for book club discussions before meeting - they loved posting and responding
A6 The unbridled joy of engaged Ss prepping for our first Mystery Skype with 's class is another high point.
A6: T was using and asked for help. I sent S to show her Ss how to get started.
A6 Digital Learning Day should be a must requirement, My district’s schedule for DLD Day 2016 https://t.co/8gvzOcJkv2
-Mike from MD - Happy Saturday. Living the love - Slept in.
Hahaha! Touché. Who wants to study the comparison, lol
👍🏽 https://t.co/BvOmMK0tVM
When students misuse their voice we don't tell them they can't speak again. Technology is part of world, don't take away.
Terrific! Working towards that in my school... https://t.co/OvHJSFh2KQ
A6: We have almost 100% of staff on Twitter! Includes secretaries, custodians, & lunch aides!! Telling our story
A rubric based lesson w/ differentiated component = Ss engagement, learning. Ex. on 13 Colonies: https://t.co/2blrFt578G
How did it happen? https://t.co/MXEmSGWiOO
A6: We have almost 100% of staff on Twitter! Includes secretaries, custodians, & lunch aides!! Telling our story
A6) So many, fave is struggling Ss writers using iMovies to tell own stories, very moving, look of pride on face priceless
Thurs. March 24th 7:30 pm EST
"Is Everyone Using Classroom Technology As Well As They should?"
I think Ts can stress about staying current w/ new apps! The thought of being a tech zombie which is unfair.
Yes! When they are driven to bring learning beyond school. https://t.co/PplcfuDwAz
A6 by far my fav is when students design a project to make others aware of a prob-start a hashtag, write a post, create a campaign
Right. It is often design/creativity more than tech/no tech.
Inquiry leads to wonder from collaborative spaces to independent thoughts. A3
A6) Ss create a weekly newscast viewed during HR school-wide called "Knightly News" ❤️
not every tool is effective in every classroom. Student response systems may work where iPads don't n some classes
I'm following you for that one joke alone. Too many fuddy duddies in education.
Even more important, these Ts aren’t scared of Ss knowing more than them!
A6: We have a district wide chat in called . Join us Thursday March 10th at 8 pm!
A6-Tr realized they didn't cite pics/info and they stopped instruction to add it into the presentation. https://t.co/ok2H1l7ixo
Q6 Inspire us! Share a favorite moment you've witnessed with a teacher of student.
A6) caught SS having inappropriate Google Group chat. Rather than ban chat, used it next day as tool for collaborative brainstorm.
I agree. But, I might have been searching for something I needn't be. This was helpful!
haha. Yes. Snaps versus tech for learning.
A6: I love using as a communication tool w/parents, students, and me. I share pics for those parents who can't be there.
I didn't have an ans for him. "Why can't we?" "Bc (they) said so," is no good reason. "Bc maybe they'll be bad?"
No. It's like taking a pencil or any other tool away from a S who uses it inappropriately.
Doing the end of from with
Design/creativity can come in many packages.
A5: Walk the journey alongside those who are tentative..model, demonstrate, be patient, don't overwhelm. Workshops not the only way.
depends on the schools & the philosophy dominating that landscape; fortunately I'm at
A6: Today at a workshop for new online students I had much success! Tentative Ss left with confidence & know-how
This is what our district uses. Love it
SO WHATS UP? I'M REALLLLLLLY BORED........
Tech offers incredible tools for differentiation Voice to text allows students to share their thinking https://t.co/D4rnri5LCE
Yes...and from what I've seen I somewhat agree. What would you change? https://t.co/MYaSfRhz0W
A5: I all for tech in the classroom but I have yet to see it done gracefully in an urban education classroom w/below grade level Ss
I love seeing how teachers and admin are using to give SS greater audience for their work! https://t.co/UWf3ih9Mgf
Teacher was using and Ss were responding to Qs in comments in 6 different languages
Great job moderating - Thanks for moving the conversation forward.
A6: Choir students at Int'l School Bangkok made instructional Youtube vids for us about music that we were learning.
A range in Ts and leaders models importance of range for Ss. We should never be the same!
A6 last year's keynote and this fall's digcit summit inspired IN students to lead, and they are
. we added ReImagination into SAMR as a next stage in the process
That is AWESOME https://t.co/G402jS6nug
A6-Tr realized they didn't cite pics/info and they stopped instruction to add it into the presentation. https://t.co/ok2H1l7ixo
Q6 Inspire us! Share a favorite moment you've witnessed with a teacher of student.
A6|recently S formerly off task now fully immersed in on task creativity, writing, concept maps because I encouraged use of device
is never fully mastered. Always something new. Thanks for a great convo Enjoy the weekend everyone
A6 When a math teacher started using the Chromebook in Class!!! And talked about it!!!!
I know. I'm redesigning a school for Philly. My current school is good, but far from great.
A3: sick S still participated in digital discussion. Gotta love realtime! We still had her insight w/o her in the room!
Thanks! I REALLY enjoyed this!
A6 use Twitter to teach concise writing -focus on details. We created epitaphs while reading Don Quixote -sum up life in few words
Joining the party the late but loving reading about all the tech in your schools! Gently pushing my school along to more tech!
Striving for a sense of balance.
Thanks so much Such an honor! Great to see you here! https://t.co/JHjFxmA0iZ
Great job moderating - Thanks for moving the conversation forward.
Yes, and this requires time. Often hindered by too many changes at once creating too little time to change mind.
A6: I started "teaching" my Ss about coding. They have taken complete ownership and are now teaching me (and each other).
I'm addicted to Twitter 😁
I think I am late to the party but always interested in what you share! I will stay tuned!!
Sad that this is an issue still, in 2016... https://t.co/3xVoxZF09Z
Joining the party the late but loving reading about all the tech in your schools! Gently pushing my school along to more tech!
Just have a moment this AM and already gleaning great ideas
Thanks for the digcit inspiration this morning. You did me more good than that first cup of tea! Have a great weekend all.
This is taught starting in Pre-K, right?
A6 we have 1st graders using and creating Code! Amazing.
that looks great! Is the DLD for the Ss?

My math/science teacher partner is looking for excellent math and science tech tools. Share any you know please!
A6 Listening to students as they collaborated and ask the question, "Is that authentic?" or "How do you know the content is true?"
A6. Totally removed cell phone restrictions & widened wifi access this year. Ts still have autonomy, but the minor battles are gone
Topic today has inspired me and dismayed me. So many schools are limiting Ss and Ts from true learning for repressive reasons.
A6: since success looks different for all, seeing staff and students connect, create, collaborate in their own way inspires me.
Citizenship in a global community needs students to reflect citizenship in every area of their life. https://t.co/LJab8JGrlc
More&more I don't think we should separate from "regular" citizenship. Let's just help our Ss know how2alwaysBtheirbest.
what do you see as causing the disconnect and lack of effectiveness?
Thanks, colleagues for the great chat. I learn so much from you all!
😂 Thanks for the follow! You gotta have some fun while engaging in this meaningful work!!!
Ommm. I strive for balance, too. Unfortunately, my 8yo strives to ruin it for me, lol
Thank you to the great for moderating . Keep fighting the good fight!
Have a wonderful weekend er's Thx for another great chat!
Change expectations. My 1st grader asked Why do I have to memorize about so and so's life? I can just "OK Google it."
Wow! How did you accomplish that? https://t.co/MMSiqzPu3A
A6: We have almost 100% of staff on Twitter! Includes secretaries, custodians, & lunch aides!! Telling our story
But not just digital citizenship - this applies in every subject every day.
A6: Had T use PebbleGo for 1st time w/ Ss and they RAVED about it. So simple to take Ss on computers for research but new to her!
Thanks! I really like this chat. I think i will be back next week
I get such a thrill when my Ss turn the teaching table on me https://t.co/5nujo8c7DN
A6: I started "teaching" my Ss about coding. They have taken complete ownership and are now teaching me (and each other).
