A1: A Reflective Practitioner means having a questioning approach; considering why things are as they are, and how they might be. https://t.co/cNoNSlZQaY#rethink_learning
A1 - We should always think about how our class or school is functioning. Being able to look back, analyze, ponder and seize on opportunities is a key part of growth. #rethink_learning
Jeff from Washington here! Former middle school teacher, asst. principal, principal, now head up our Teaching/Learning/Innovation Department! #rethink_learning
A1: Developing and Using Reflective Practice https://t.co/uT8p3ICFZD What can be done to help develop the critical, constructive and creative thinking that is necessary for reflective practice? #rethink_learning
A1 A reflective practitioner is someone that is reflects on their actions/learning in order to grow into something better the next time. #rethink_learning

A1: Being a reflective practitioner means looking at the impact of your teaching on students, getting them actively involved in that conversation, and adjusting your practices to improve your impact. #rethink_learning

A1 Reflective with colleagues on student work for feedback to find continuity & build resources; reflective for self to grow and improve #rethink_learning I like reflective blogging for share with PLN
The “why” that was mentioned is used frequently in education circles. For good reason. If we can reflect on why we are teaching and learning, it’s time to go back to the drawing board. #rethink_learning
A1: I see it as a person that intentionally stops on a regular basis to analyse what has been done, and adjusts the course towards bigger and better. #rethink_learning
A1. During the reflective learning process it is especially interesting when the unexpected occurs and our behaviors have to quickly adjust - we should applaud ourselves when we meet with success on such occasions! #rethink_learning
👋 #rethink_learning Jim from NJ. A1: to me a reflective practitioner means you are evaluating yourself to find strengths and weakness. You are not happy with laminated lessons and want to learn and grow from your experiences. #rethink_learning
A1 To me, it means lookg back over the day & capitalizing on those lrng opps that occurred naturally thru the day: those poets who created in the mid of the night, the mathematicians w/ a diff strategy, ?s in sci journal, new terms in chapter bk. #rethink_learning
A2: I use “The What! So What! Now What” approach to discuss critical reflection when I do my coaching with teachers https://t.co/elEHySiJCn this helps prompt reflecting on teaching practice #rethink_learning
A2 ongoing in classroom as lesson unfolds: are students understanding; reviewing lesson/strategies to improve next day; get feedback from students in exit responses #rethink_learning
A2: I build in pauses in my day for critical reflection and solicit feedback regularly on my thought process and the perception of my leadership. #rethink_learning
A1- A reflective practitioner is one that debriefs events/educator practices. Analyzes, determines effectiveness of the practice and plan next steps. #rethink_learning
A2 I always start with what went well and what didn't go well during the activity. This starts the process of reshaping the lesson for the next day. I'm not one that's able to plan ahead very far due to these reflections, but I feel my students benefit from it. #rethink_learning
A2: I use “The What! So What! Now What” approach to discuss critical reflection when I do my coaching with teachers https://t.co/elEHySiJCn this helps prompt reflecting on teaching practice #rethink_learning
A2: I reflect through writing on my blog. Most times I don’t publish my reflections as they are really just me processing everything, but occasionally I share out like this one on valuing vulnerability: https://t.co/tsVas9kdfc#rethink_learning
Pauses are great. I remember someone saying count 12 seconds before responding so there is time to reflect and process before answering. Thanks @mexusmx#rethink_learning

A2: I use “The What! So What! Now What” approach to discuss critical reflection when I do my coaching with teachers https://t.co/elEHySiJCn this helps prompt reflecting on teaching practice #rethink_learning
A2. I keep getting stuck for HOURS on learning new tasks lately - day after day I am repeating this - I could sure use a 'ittle bit more of this NOW WHAT rather than repeating the behavior. #rethink_learning
A2: I use “The What! So What! Now What” approach to discuss critical reflection when I do my coaching with teachers https://t.co/elEHySiJCn this helps prompt reflecting on teaching practice #rethink_learning
To critically reflect, I need to have a clear, longterm vision of what learning experiences I want for students. The reflection comes from seeing how well my day-to-day practices and the class culture help move us toward that longterm vision. #rethink_learning
A2: I love getting feedback from others. One of the reasons why I blog (https://t.co/S0vWMCCSyC) is to get an outside-looking-in point of view of my thoughts. #rethink_learning
A2 - We do a reflection document each day in the beginning and sometimes at the end of class. Students log in their thoughts on the lesson, suggestions and assess their learning. I read and comment on their posts. Adjust as necessary. #rethink_learning
A1: “Reflective practitioner” means learning about who I am as an educator by taking the time for self-discovery. Then, from that learning (i.e., strengths and needs), determining how I can change to better serve others. #rethink_learning
A2: honesty. Admitting failure is not easy, and it is a fear many of us hold. We must look at ourselves and truly reflect in order to grow. #rethink_learning

A2: I build in pauses in my day for critical reflection and solicit feedback regularly on my thought process and the perception of my leadership. #rethink_learning
I used to ask my Ss three Qs on a regular basis:
1) what went well this week? Why?
2) what didn't go well this week? Why?
3) what can I do as your teacher to support you in your learning? #rethink_learning
So true @MrYanuzzelli But Ss build trust when they know that admitting failure is okay. We need to look at ourselves and be vulnerable #rethink_learning
A2: honesty. Admitting failure is not easy, and it is a fear many of us hold. We must look at ourselves and truly reflect in order to grow. #rethink_learning
I also found this beneficial. I used to want have everything planned, but realize now that the act of reflection often changes my plans. No two times I teach are ever the exact same. Different students require different strategies. #rethink_learning
a3 self-reflection brings what was learned that may be incidental to the objective; it connects the personal needs to the overall learning and helps focus the learner on what to continue and what to improve #rethink_learning
A1: Reflective practitioners take in information, mesh it with what they know to learn or confirm thinking, and find a way to make the thinking useful to them...make it their own. #rethink_learning
A1 To be aware & ready to rethink how a lesson might be improved, a teaching strategy revamped, a conversation to follow up w/a student to make a connection. Always seeking to improve & connect. #rethink_learning
A3: Self-reflecting helps to see the situation from various perspectives, providing a broader scope of analysis. It also helps to shine a light on shifts only we can make to improve. #rethink_learning
A3 An honest account if you are understanding what you are learning or not. If you are the learner, are you thinking of ways on how you would teach this to someone else? This could be feedback to who is teaching you. #rethink_learning
A3: Kolb’s Reflective Learning Cycle https://t.co/IpO0v1m5fo the process of learning follows a cycle consisting of four stages, one of which refers to as 'reflective observation' and learn from experiences #rethink_learning
After reading tweet after tweet from those here in Twitterland of so much honesty I found it much easier to be honest myself. Great modeling by leaders. #rethink_learning
A2: I talk w/ Ss, Ps, colleagues. It was both the P & the child who shared abt wrtg poetry at night! When lrng chngs Ss & their fams, I want to re-invest in that tchg. Those samples inspire other Ss & fams, too - & me! So, telling those stories is integral! #rethink_learning
A2) I think I’m a “natural reflective”, I remember questioning, analyzing & re-evaluating things even in grade school, always searching for better #rethink_learning
A3: Self-reflecting helps to see the situation from various perspectives, providing a broader scope of analysis. It also helps to shine a light on shifts only we can make to improve. #rethink_learning
A1-Reflective learners are able to take what they are learning and then process that information into their own ideas to fully show they’re understand.#rethink_learning
A1: Reflective practitioners take in information, mesh it with what they know to learn or confirm thinking, and find a way to make the thinking useful to them...make it their own. #rethink_learning
A3: Reflection helps put learning experiences into context. It helps me see how a specific experience and the lessons/skills learned can be applied in the future. #rethink_learning
A2: Some approaches to critical reflection..I seek input, feedback from colleagues, I try to take 10-15 minutes near the end of a day to reviews my learnings, I sometimes write about some of my experiences, I try to be grateful, daily, for the ‘gifts’ of my day. #rethink_learning
A3 By reflecting, we can think about what works best & what to do in the future to enhance learning. Before reflecting on your learning, you must know the end goal. Without knowing the desired outcome, you can't measure progress toward it! #rethink_learning
A3: Self reflection helps us grow as learners. Allows us to never accept status quo. Look for ways to become better and understand more. #rethink_learning
A2- I take notes both mentally and written about what went well and what needs changed. Talking to others and twitter chats are also good resources. #rethink_learning
A4: What are some ways you encourage reflection? Portfolios? Question journals? How do you empower learners to reflect on their learning? #rethink_learning
A3 - I started writing a book about 2 years ago. The writing has been the most effective way to see if what I’m writing is actually what I’m doing. Self-reflection is mandatory for improving our practice. This goes for any person in education. #rethink_learning
A4: Starts with Ts modeling the behavior and then assessing the students ability to reflect on their work. Create a culture where the process is as important as the product. #rethink_learning
a4: learners note their goals/objs @ pause to see their progress; reflect on next steps; a continuous process; peer and coach/tchr conversations; a pause and share/ask question time during too; #rethink_learning
A3- Reflections is learning if you are not reflecting we are not learning. It guides your thinking and more than just next steps. the importance of the process. #rethink_learning
A2 Running things past my colleagues always gives me renewed perspective as I reflect on my goals/teaching. W/my band Ss we do more verbal reflection than writing. I am a pencil to paper girl--I should be buying stock in post-it notes for my own reflecting. :) #rethink_learning
A4: Instill a class culture in which the process is valued as much as the product. I try to share my own failures and what I learned from them. I also get student input on how class is going; letting them see I don't have all the answers is empowering. #rethink_learning
A4: Ss need time to reflect on what they already know & ask Qs. I love the "See, Think, Wonder" protocol...weekly community circles to check in and regular blogging and questioning throughout the process. #rethink_learning
A3 - How can we truly know if positive learning is happening if we don’t reflect on our teaching. It’s not enough to just look at grades and tests. They only offer a tiny snapshot of learning. #rethink_learning
Hey #rethink_learning chat - make sure you follow the people who are in the chat to grow your #PLN - What an amazing group we have here reflecting on #reflections!
A4. I just ADORE this graphic! I hope some of you will click and save it for a rainy day? Maybe hash it over during a conversation with students? #rethink_learning It comes from #4OCF
A3: Benefits of self-reflection...becoming a more effective practitioner, better able to cope with stress and challenges, more hopeful and optimistic, truly understand who I am, experience positive change and deeper learning. #rethink_learning
A4: I often model reflection w/ my own teaching & learning. Ss can see the process in practice. Also time. Lots of time, but time well spent #rethink_learning

A4 To help students, I will attempt to message their parents for them to ask specific questions about the day that will help student to reflect what they learned when asked. #rethink_learning
A4: I think about my understsnding before, ask questions and research during the learning process, and elicit feedback after while celebrating and using new understanding. Then I find a gif to explain it all! (Just kidding about the gif.) #rethink_learning
A3: Reflection keeps lrng fresh! When I chng things up, I'm never really sure what will happen next! Being a risk-taker alongside a cls of littles is incredible. I scaffold them into problem-solving, dealing w/ "failure," imp of communication, perseverance. #rethink_learning
A3- Self reflection helps us to see what worked and what we need to change. When we are aware of our road map we can make accommodations in our self to get to the destination. #rethink_learning
A4: I often model reflection w/ my own teaching & learning. Ss can see the process in practice. Also time. Lots of time, but time well spent #rethink_learning
Thank you so much for joining me and @bbray27 tonight as we reflected on Reflection! Hope you can join us in 2 weeks as we talk about Communication! #rethink_learning
A4: Have a reflective process in place that looks back at what has been done, what is being done, and what needs to be done. I create events in my calendar for reflection time (with reminders 😆) #rethink_learning
A4- Reflections are based on co-constructed criteria that is a working document based on students' voices and thinking. Always refer to before during and after. especially the learning process and next steps. #rethink_learning
Okay - I'm reflecting on that amazing #rethink_learning chat that just went by so fast. So many amazing ideas to reflect on - I'll be sharing the archive in @participate soon so I can back and learn from all of you!!
A3b: We all lrn & grow & chng together! I'm a much better teacher when I'm vulnerable with my kids. It's amazing, too, how much more we notice together. Lrng really is synchronistic & builds on our prior knowledge & new experiences. #rethink_learning

Thanks for a fun chat all! I was just filling a little time before our board meeting tonight and happened upon #rethink_learning. I'll look for it from now on! Great thinking and sharing!
A4 - This goes back to why, what and how? If I can’t answer why I’m teaching a lesson, what it will mean for students and how will they apply it’s time to make change. , #rethink_learning
A4 Important to model reflection for students. It is very difficult for younger students to reflect because they may not have the self-awareness needed- YET. So we must provide opportunities for them to practice this important skill. #rethink_learning
A4- We as Ts need to create a culture where the process is just as important as the product. Model thinking and giving enough time to do so. Share what worked, but also what didn’t. Ss need to know that it’s okay to go back to the drawing board. #rethink_learning
A4: Foster reflection by ‘living it’ as an educator...nothing is more powerful than sharing your own lives experiences with the process of reflection and learning. It takes time to cultivate this skill...must be patient with ourselves! #rethink_learning
A4. I just ADORE this graphic! I hope some of you will click and save it for a rainy day? Maybe hash it over during a conversation with students? #rethink_learning It comes from #4OCF
#rethink_learning A4 - I make everything transparent and accessible notes/agendas/etc. If we learn from reflection, the more we return to it the better.
A4: Kids come to expect the reflection built at workshop's end, s/t pausing during them. They reflect in diff ways: thru wrtgs & drawings, exit slips, convos. Open ?s elicit ideas best. Because they know our later wk comes from them, they know the importance! #rethink_learning

Such powerful work here in all these questions! What we've seen in the past, too, is that children rise above the expectation/standards and challenge themselves to learn even more significant things. #rethink_learning
