A1 we struggled we were very young lost 27 seniors New HC lots of learning but improved towards the end of the year which was good played for a sectional championship at 3-8 #hogfbchat
8-3 lost in the District championship to the eventual State Runner ups for Mhsaa D3... first district title played for in 3 years, second since 2007! #hogfbchat
A1: Finished the regular season 9-0 and won our conference. Met a very big and physical team in the quarterfinals and finished 9-1. First undefeated season and conference championship in school history #hogfbchat
A1: Had one less regular season game due to the hurricane and flood. Won 4th district championship in a row. Lost in the second round just last week #hogfbchat
A1: 7-3 lost 1st round of playoffs down 12-7 at half then the wheels fell off second half. 2 reg season losses were by 5 points total. Not a bad year after replacing all OL but C #hogfbchat
A1: Turning around a program that lost 22 straight games!! Went 4-6 this season and should have won more! Kids really bought in to the new culture and it showed! Continuing to build and improve! #hogfbchat
A1: We finished 3-7. VERY young this year. We had 1 more win than last year and our junior high was undefeated in conference this year.Good group moving up Excited to get next year started #hogfbchat
A1: To be honest, record wise, it wasn't great but I am proud that our upper classman developed into leaders and that matters more than records. Win/Loss records don't last, character does. #hogfbchat
A1. First year rebuilding/rebranding a program. Turned a previous 3-8 record to a 9-4 record losing in the 2nd round. Still have a long way to go #hogfbchat
A1:
3-7 moved to a new school to coach LB's. Great group of kids, played in a really tough region. Great learning experience being on the defensive side of the ball under a solid man as the head coach #hogfbchat
A1: not at all the way you’d want a season to turn out, but we were without a doubt the youngest team I saw with between 6-8 sophomores starting on Friday night, have a good foundation laid. In the midst of changing a culture #hogfbchat
A1 first year head coach, took over a 1-19 program. Finished at 4-6 with our last two losses as playoff implications there. Are very close, bring everyone back. #hogfbchat
A1: 4-7 and lost in the first round of a playoff game we hosted. Most wins and first time we’ve hosted since 2002. Our first year as a staff here so a great start but plenty of work to be done. 3 OL on all conf...will find out all region tonight #HogFBChat
3-7 with season ending win over county rival .may not sound like much but made progress in the rebuild. Most wins for program since 06 & lost 2 games by 6 points. #hogfbchat
A1: finished 7-4 and a share of district title after starting 1-3. didnt end the way we wanted of course but I was just lucky to be employed after getting my first Head job and then the program folded at the end of may! #HOGFBCHAT
Yep...that was an awesome weekend. Working with you on Friday night, getting to hang, see a great game, and dominate some grub on Saturday, then a good breakfast Sunday #hogfbchat
A1: Won district at 10-0 but were upset in the quarter finals. We did win our 48th straight game and set the Oklahoma 11 man win streak record. #hogfbchat
A1 team went 8-3. Made some strides defensively and return a great group of kids next year.
Need to improve pass protection and add more nasty #hogfbchat
A1: new staff. We finished 4-7, first round playoffs. Broke many offensive school records (total yards, passing, scoring). Improved the scoring average by 14 points (by 19 in conference play). Hopefully we'll continue to be more physical. #HOGFBCHAT
A1: No like we planned started 7 freshmen. We were very young but we saw improvement each week. Kids stuck together and fought. That’s all you can ask for. #hogfbchat
A1: Season was delayed due to Hurricane Harvey. Ended up finishing 7-1 and the district runner up. Lost a slugfest in the first round of the playoffs to Galveston Ball. Our O averaged 60.5 points per game thru the first 6 weeks of the season.
#hogfbchat
A1 - The season went well. First year at a struggling program. Went 7-3 and 1st playoff appearance in 15 years for the program. Went from 200 yards rushing in 2016 to 1200 this year! #hogfbchat
8-2 regular season. Win 1st round playoff game, lost in round 2 to last years state champion. Good two year run for us with three playoff victories. #backtothegrind#hogfbchat
A1 Record wise we were not great but as the year went on the offense really started to click especially when the offensive line started blocking our trap play well. Highlight of the year was running wedge 8 times for 80 yards against PHS on one drive and punching it in #hogfbchat
A1: Disappointing. We're in a new league this year and went 1-8 (2-8) if you count a forfeit. Also one of those crazy injury heavy years. That said we did learn some good things and found some young players that we think will really help us moving forward. #hogfbchat
A1: Well....it ended too soon. 5-4. Missed the playoffs for the first time in 13 years. Young squad. JVs were fun to watch. Future is as bright as we want it to be. #hogfbchat
About 350 Adm. started with 50 kids then finished with 33 and about 20 of those were freshmen and Sophomore where about 10 never played a down. #hogfbchat
A1: Improved in many ways since coming into our program. Looking forward to the off season and develop our guys and hit the clinic season running. Gotta learn and get better. #hogfbchat
A1: Overachieved, played a bunch of great games, struggled w/ program numbers/participation, on the losing side of a "you-woudn't-believe-it-if-I-told-you" drama for our league title, broke several school rushing records & thanks-be-to-God zero OL injuries. record 5-6 #hogfbchat
1-8 against a tough schedule. Regardless, loved working with this group of kids. Great bunch made it easier! Played their hearts out agains long odds many nights. #hogfbchat
A1: we had a tough schedule, 5 teams on our schedule made the playoffs. Kids tried really hard. We just didn't do enough to keep competing all 4 quarters. #hogfbchat
A1: future is very bright. Tons of size moving up from an 8-2 JV team that has already begun lifting. Only graduated one 11 game lineman. Tons of competition that will be led by a rising senior outside tackle that graded 88% with 25 pancakes #HogFBChat
A1. Came with a good friend back to the school we left 3 years ago. Got here 3 weeks before season. Had 23 kids. Got up to 50+. Rough year though, 1-9 overall. Learned a lot. Lot of work to do. Excited for the future. Pray for my sanity. #hogfbchat
9-4 lost in semi-finals this past Friday. Good mix of Jrs and Sophs coming back should reload well! Sprinkled in with a couple current Fr that will start next year! #LineSix#hogfbchat
FInished 0-7 unfortunately. But we made some great strides this season. Overall offense was better than previous years. Defense set program record for turnovers vs. Cornell and first pick six in program history. Looking forward to 2018!! #hogfbchat
That makes all the difference! We are in a similar situation and I can't wait to see the improvement from our guy's first offseason in a weight room #hogfbchat
A2 last 4-5 games of season we dialed in our pass pro and gave up 0 sacks until our final game of the season. Helped our backup QB throw for 2400 yards in 6 games #hogfbchat
a2 #hogfbchat Really like the foundation we set up front, but also very excited to get back to work with them soon. The process of #SKAQ never stops...always things to be adjust & refined
A2:
Our OC did a good job putting the players in position and while the results weren't always points we were a lot more consistent running the football towards the end of the year #hogfbchat
A2: We were able to do more formations with all groups while still running our base plays in both groups. Looks like we have 25 formations, really just moving a few people around. #hogfbchat
A2. First year as the OL coach in this program. Successfully created that HOG culture. Kids bought in, big time. Excited to see where it goes from here. #hogfbchat
A2. We were a little bit better pre-snap this season. Made us much more efficient by doing a better job of taking what the defense gave us in the screen and short pass game. #HogFBChat
A2: well considering our kids went from Air Raid to the Flexbone, the offense was much more crisp at the end of the year, and up front we got a lot more consistent and began to have things to hang our hat on a little bit. #hogfbchat
A2: We improved our rushing output by around 400 or so yards and were able to have the leading rusher in the conference! First QB to ever lead the league in that category!! #hogfbchat
A2 ehhh no comment.... strictly defense and special teams haha if I had to say... we def had some explosive players. Something we didn’t the previous year #hogfbchat
Top 10 ppg all time for program. Balance with much better run game. Probably double our rushing output from previous season. Incorporated IZ with power triple option RPOs. #hogfbchat
A2: better buy in during offseason in weightroom and belief in O. Went from spread to wing t two seasons ago. Marked difference in execution this year as kids got more comfortable in what we're about. 10 more ppg and 100 more rushing yards per game #hogfbchat
A2 - We were much more balanced this year and the increase in our passing game helped the run game immensely. Teams had to choose what to stop. Also helped spreading out rushing load across multiple backs.
#hogfbchat
A2: We averaged close to 35 points a game and near 400 yards a game! Averaged about 20 more points and about 150 more yards then the year before! OL wise we made strides and changed how day to day operations went! Excited for the future!! #hogfbchat
A2) we replaced our all time leading passer and our all time leading rusher, as well as two lineman that were 6’5” and 285. We still managed to be successful on offense and brought along a soph QB that has a really bright future. Got better at pass protection #hogfbchat
A2: started off struggling early with new players in every skill position from year before. As season progressed we became much more consistent and it started turning into points for us. #hogfbchat
A2. #10 in the nation in total offense (485 ypg) top 20 in rushing offense at 244 ypg. Averaged 35 points per game. Our OC @Coach_Ingraham did a great job calling it. Kids did a great job executing #hogfbchat
A2- We were really young last year so it was really fun watching my young guys put in the work in the off season to make a push at the title this year. Heck of an off-season of growth & commitment I love my guys! #hogfbchat
A2: had our top rb set school records for yards in a game and a season. We passed for more yards than the last four seasons combined. Scoring went up 400% and defensively we gave up 15ppg less than last season. #hogfbchat
A2: first year running IZ & OZ and when attached RPOs to about everything. Felt like we did a good job at zone for our first year. I learned a lot about how to screw up teaching it too #hogfbchat
Defense carried us They had 9 returning we had 2. Transitioning from Rocket Toss based to multiple formations. Foundation is laid. Next year we have 9 returning on offense. #hogfbchat
A2: We had a team that rushed for 2900yds and threw for 2300yds despite starting 4 new OL, graduating All-State WR, and losing All-State RB to injury week 2. #hogfbchat
A2: We are a flexbone team. We run a little Wing T, a little gun option. We got most of the playbook in. Not real big, or real good at execution yet. But as an OL, my biggest kid was 5'10 230 and started 4 soph/1 FR at one point on a 4A level. We grew up each week. #hogfbchat
Took over a program that averaged 6.2 PPG and had less than 1,500 yards of total offense. We finished the season with 3,528 yards of totals offense averaged 28.4 PPG. Played in a very tough defensive district. Was just the base of offense, next year could be fun. #hogfbchat
A2 cont. We also put up 74 points in a game which was a school record, and put up 53 points against a larger prep school than us who uses post grads. #HogFBChat
A2: My favorite team @WCHSWolvesFB was a combination of a 2-8 team and a 3-7 team, who made it to the playoffs in year one under HC @WCFBCoach Two LONG TIME rival schools coming together or the playoffs? Yes, it happened. #hogfbchat
A2 we built a championship culture, but O Line specifically we allowed one sack on 197 passing attempts. Not a big stat guy, but is awesome! #hogfbchat
A2: 5 out of 6 new starters on the OL and ended up with 2500+ rush yards and 5 1 or 2nd team all region linemen. OL improvement from scrimmage to last game was remarkable #hogfbchat
A2: We developed a better identity to carry us forward. Played with a ton of inexperience...all 5 new starters up front so a ton of experience gained for next year! Overachieved based on what we were suppose to do! #hogfbchat
A2: Godby had some great Coaches previously but we were changing from Spread/tempo to Pro Style and huddling. I think it went well. Was tons of growing pains on both ends though. #HOGFBCHAT
Our starting QB went down first game of the year with shoulder injury. He played through the injury. We had a freshmen QB step up and move the offense. Actually made honorable mention for the league. Overall, more rushing yards, more TDs, more yards... #hogfbchat
Q2: We graduated 4 of 5 OL from last year and we able to mold them into a consistent group which helped us establish a solid run game with good play action #hogfbchat
A2: Offense really struggled most the year with a lot of new faces also a lot of young and inexperienced guys. We did come up with some new wrinkles and looks that did benefit us at times and hope to expand on it next year. #hogfbchat
A2: first year here with a new system for the kids (spinner single wing). Growing pains but the future is bright. A true freshman started on the OL all year and brings plenty of attitude. A lot of juniors who will have a full offseason and second year in the system #HogFBChat
A2: We found some young weapons, along with some seniors who improved through the season. Our Center never played that position, especially at Varsity but our Sr. Guard earned 2nd team All-City #hogfbchat
A2: Started the year rocky. Couldnt get the offense of the ground. Spent a lot of time working our base plays in practice. Our trap started popping which really opened up buc sweep for us. #hogfbchat
A2: Went to a zone scheme, we were perfectly balanced on offense going into the state title game, 2,134 rushing and passing yards. Only allowed 3 sacks in 14 games. Wish I could say it was all coaching but we truly had an exceptional group of hogs this year! #hogfbchat
After some personnel changes we were able to get our best athletes with the ball in space. The changes also helped the kids have some more fun with it #hogfbchat
A2 compared to the previous era we did awesome. Actually implemented an offensive system. Before it was whatever the team on Sunday did successfully. #hogfbchat
A2: Began the switch from "Product" oriented offense to "Process" oriented. Challenging and uncomfortable at first. But now kids are bought in more than ever #hogfbchat
A2: OL transformed from question mark to foundation of offense for 9th, JV, and Varsity. 2000+ yd passer and 1400+ rusher on varsity. Good looking OL types that love playing OL. @CoachMcSween@CoachFonz78#hogfbchat
A2. Really focused on Belly Trap. Terrible play for us in 16. Loved the improvement. It’s a play that forced us to become physical! @POPCSFootball#hogfbchat
A2: As an offense, we grew each week. We had a new starting QB, who produced 27 TD's, and over 2,200 yards passing. Our OL matured week to week and helped our starting RB average 7.9 yards/carry. As a staff, we were pleased with their progress. #hogfbchat
A2 #hogfbchat
Had some kids step up to take on roles to help the team, OL got lots of experience (only graduating 1 from this year's line) & found some serious playmakers for the future.
A2: we improved our physicality (not near as much I would like). Our "football IQ" was where I saw some substantial improvement. Our biggest gain, however, was in attitude: don't quit, keep attacking and scoring, do your job, etc. #hogfbchat
A1: Finished 3-7 with a sophomore heavy roster. 5 of our 10 opponents were top 10 teams, so I think we learned some valuable lessons for the future. #hogfbchat
A2)complete change in Off philosophy. First year QB led the classification in passing, had 2 of the top 5 WRs in classification. As the year went on we really dialed in the passing game #hogfbchat
A2: Our team made tremendous improvements. Went into the season with 3 sophomores up front, battled hard and racked up 1200 on the ground and scored almost 200 more points than 2016 #hogfbchat
Way too kind brother, but thanks. Hoping we can make great strides this off-season with 5+ months of time to work with them as compared to last season #hogfbchat
A2: Mid season, players took huge strides in newer roles. Finished with QB and RB with 1K yards. RB just shy of 1,900 in 12 games. Turnovers went down. RPO game strong. #hogfbchat#OLshoutout
A2: Only had to replace 2 starters on offense. Started a FR at RB and a bunch of SOPH's across the rest of the O. Rushing numbers were down a bit but passing yards nearly doubled. Defense was off the chain so we had the short porch most of the season.
#hogfbchat
A2: most important gain for me was helping these seniors see some success. They worked hard and deserved to get a taste of winning. Wish I had more time with them. #HogFBChat
A2- We were really young last year so it was really fun watching my young guys put in the work in the off season to make a push at the title this year. Heck of an off-season of growth & commitment I love my guys! #hogfbchat
A2 cont: The majority of our offense (and defense for the matter) were true freshmen. To make improvements like that with mostly freshmen in a new system is a very good thing. The future is bright for our program! #hogfbchat
A2: Foundation is laid so we can go more up-tempo. Stay in 1 formation and run Power/Counter check with RPO tags. Goal is to face a 6/5 man box not 8/9. #hogfbchat
The HS team I did video for made it to 1st rd playoffs. Austin Peay where I was operations intern went from 29 game losing streak to 8-4 & just missing FCS playoffs. #hogfbchat
A2: Had 2nd leading rusher in our section (72+ teams). Averaged almost 300 rushing yds per game. Increased team scoring from last season. Had only 9 passing TDs to only 1 INTs during regular season. Lead in 8 of 11 games. Were no huddle, up-tempo in gun & under center #hogfbchat
A2: Offensive Line wise the biggest gain was creating a UNIT. Our group chat is funny, the guys all bonded together and I was able to get them to buy into the attitude necessary to play the position. #HogFBChat
A2: Broke 3,000 yds rushing, which was a 40 yd per game improvement from '16. We were much more physical at point of attack & return everyone. #hogfbchat
A2: We moved from being an under center option team to a Spread/RPO/Run/Shoot team. Improved as an offense ran for just under 1,000 yards and threw for over 2,100 yards. We steady improved our pass pro throughout the season. Looking for big improvements next season. #hogfbchat
A2: got better at fitting what we do to our OL and backs, finding new ways to get guys in great spots in the RPO game. Now need to explore unbalanced in the offseason. Suggestions on who to visit are welcomed #HogFbChat
A2: Tackles were able to communicate with wings on power to set up blocks and also picked up on DL slant calls in some games to help angles out even better. #hogfbchat
A2 (part 2): I also have to shoutout our OL's improvement from the spring to the end of the season. We were very young; only one had taken a meaningful snap before. Had guys that didn't even get PT on JV, but they stepped up and got better.#hogfbchat
A2: has to re-teach IZ and pass pro footwork. That was rough but the guys made great progress as the year went. GT counter was a great play for us #hogfbchat
a3 #hogfbchat started to lay a foundation with simplicity that will grow & improve as the players continue to develop with their #SKAQ work & especially in the weight room. The experience gained will be SOOOO valuable next fall
Would love to hear more about what you ran and esp. ran well. We used bunch to get some unbalanced advantages, especially since we were mostly gun, split backs. #hogfbchat
A3:
Q-Counter from 10 personnel with F as the lead blocker was my personnel favorite. Ran a lot of Tackle Over with a Nasty Split that was a great formation #hogfbchat
A3: Went with wider splits in the later half of the season. Really created some nice space in the run game and helped cover up some of our issues up front #hogfbchat
A3: started playing with RPOs more this last season. What we were comfortable doing at least. need to spend more time working on the mesh points/reads and attempt not to reinvent the wheel. #hogfbchat
I liked the fact that when we had to go for it on 4th down we were able to convert on a regular basis all season. Also had a few close games that when we had to go score we did. #hogfbchat
A3. We found a lot of success early in the season with our inside zone. Later on we were able to compliment that with our counter and power. As a primary stretch team, those were awesome compliments to have. Our tackle over stuff really worked out well. #hogfbchat
A3: QB injured his foot week 1, so we relied more on RPOs and him making reads rather than running. There was some growing pains, but a lot of big plays for us #hogfbchat
A3: This season we were successful in are Q run game and very successful in pass pro and being able to pitch and catch! Probably the most important thing was only 6 turnovers all year long!! If you make it important it will be important! #hogfbchat
A3: really think our use of motions/shift pre-snap give us the opportunity to have the numbers where we need them. Our kids do a job understanding the system so we can play with tempo when we need to. #hogfbchat
A3: we went to a more zone blocking team and made it easier on the lineman and running backs. This let us use play action and slide protection to give the defense different looks. And add 5 rpos #hogfbchat
A3 lots of big plays when we aired it out!!! It was fun watching those kids go and get it!!! I think 3 weeks in a row here in NC we had the longest pass of the week!!! #HogFbChat
A3 #hogfbchat
Installed IZ, dart read, and counter/jet read. All 3 I really liked- at different times throughout the season.
We also dabbled a little w/ RPO's, & I'm continuing to learn more about them for my own playbook later on
A3. Th screen and draw game were really nice for us this year. Did a nice job of integrating the run and pass game together. Still some things I would have liked to do, but screens and draws were solid. #HogFbChat
A3: think we shifted away from traditional wing t and used jet/rocket and plays off of that motion to take advantage of our speed while minimizing where we were deficient(our backs averaged 150lbs) getting lbs to widen with the motion really helped our inside runs hit #hogfbchat
A3: We maximized a few concepts with some wrinkles, especially IZ & Counter Trey w/ TE, to help our young OL and create easy reads for our QB. #hogfbchat
A3 - Attaching our "H" back to formations and leading/ kicking with him, a couple solid RPOs, and REALLY wide splits were a great change up for us against a couple teams. #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat A3 we were systematic in how we installed series & called plays. A few simple blocking schemes (OZ/Power/Ctr)/2 pass pros but tons of motion & formations to dress them up
A3. We installed the Single Wing this year. It was the best thing we could have done. Power.... Deception.... Forcing defenses to tackle for 4 quarters... the list goes on. #hogfbchat
A3...We flirted at the end of the season with no huddle tempo Flexbone. Just like Merchant Marine Academy. #hogfbchat Tried to go as fast as we could. We were up 51-0 at halftime not really knowing what we were doing. More in 2018. @POPCSFootball
A3: We added Power Toss, Counter off that, QB GT, and GT that gave defenses some fits with the split flow. Not too many of the teams in our league were doing this so it was a little unique and gave teams some different looks to have to account for. #HogFbChat
A3- We had 2 outstanding TE/H backs that could be attached, split out or in sniffer and run block as well as catch passes. It allowed us to do alot formationally with same guys to stress defenses. #hogfbchat
A3: Versatility in our run game. Able to utilize both zone and gap schemes effectively. Kids loved certain play calls and asked if they were part of the gameplan. Kids got smarter as season went along. #hogfbchat
Our pass pro greatly improved over the second half of the season. We also had a couple of other concepts we didn’t use as much but were still able to have some success with them. #hogfbchat
A3: We ran the crap out of bucksweep, trap, and belly this season. Love the wing t dinosaur still roaring this day and age. Always nice to see the base of your offense run well. #hogfbchat
A3: We were pretty darn crisp on screens. Pass protected very well until Trinity Christian and Lincoln games two well coached blitzing squads. Blocked the hell out of IZ.
#HogFbChat
A3: we used formations to both spread people out and to condense the defense. I learned a lot about that over the season from our HC and OC. Used a lot of tackle over sets which I’ve always been a fan of since I noticed Malzahn doing it #hogfbchat
A3: Traditionally we've always been a wing-t team but also ran some spread. This year due to injuries we ran more spread. We expanded that package and added some new looks. Essentially same plays but out of different gun formations. #hogfbchat
A3: Never gave up on the foundation we were building at a new program. 3 sophomores and a junior played in all 11 games on the OLine, learning the offense and really started to gel the last half of the season on our way to a playoff birth. Real excited for the future. #HogFbChat
A3: switched our lead back and wing back about half way through the year and I think both played off of each other very well at their new spot. Also switched the blocking up and began fanning outside shades in certain spots and helped open up the power #HogFBChat
A3: We never huddled all year and set the pace on offense. That and we committed to running power in addition to our lead and counter to give us more options.
#hogfbchat
A1: We won the first playoff game in school history. Ran into a buzzsaw in the 2nd round. Great season with an Awesome group of young men. @RiceTXBulldogs#hogfbchat
A3: As a unit, I liked how we easily added new "advantage" formations each week but didn't have to teach new schemes. Were able to get free big chunks of yardage until D got to sideline & adjusted. As an OL I loved the new way we did dbl teams on gap scheme runs #hogfbchat
Assistant Coach for a traditionally weak football program at Knott County Central in Hindman, KY. This past season was only the 6th out of 38 seasons with a .500 (5-5) or better record, excluding playoffs. #hogfbchat
A3: I was very happy with our screen game. Only had 3 concepts, but dressed them up differently. I was also pleased with our adjustments we made throughout the year; particularly with our sprintout pro. #hogfbchat
A3: lots of 20 personnel, gave us more versitevity. Lots of 50 pass protection. We needed more of that. In southwest mo., 30 front defenses were the flavor of the month. Made us get better at odd fronts. #HOGFBCHAT
Focus on "the process" was a huge culture shift for our program this year, as well. Kids went from apathy to mockery to engaged to sold out from May to Nov. Excites me to keep building that into our program DNA with off-season program #hogfbchat
Awesome another Columbus guy! Follow the 2 mods, @CoachShiffman & @CoachDingus , follow the hashtag, and respond to the questions like any other chat #hogfbchat
In reply to
@TurnerOline67, @CoachShiffman, @CoachDingus
A3: Kept the QB clean for the most part. Didn't allow an absurd amount of sacks or QB hits so that was nice. We were good on 3rd and medium which is a weird stat but a good thing. Bad that we had so many 3rd and mediums but at least we could pick them up. #hogfbchat
I had 2 former dlineman - 1 ended up being the conference offensive lineman of the year as a sophomore. The other moved halfway through the season. Just seemed we were snakebit with injuries this year #hogfbchat
When you’re on the same #hogfbchat with an in conference rival talking about successes and you know they didn’t have that success against you!!! Muahahahahaha
A3: Got back into my comfort system offensively. I don't think any one offense is the best, but I think an option based, downhill offense fits me better as a coach. So.. We ran the option from multiple schemes and forms. #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat A3 we were able to run power vs any front and tactic that was thrown out us due to multiple adjustments that our boys were able to understand and apply. Smart kids
A3: kids progressed faster than I thought up front. Was able to install some zone schemes and different things. Offense was more expanded than it has been in the past #HogFBChat
Coaches, sorry about being late to the party. Excited about being part of this and seeing all the ideas. I’m new here:
Josh Jaggers
LaRue Co. HS (KY) HFC
1st year back as the HC here after being fired following the 2014 season (2012-2014) yes. You read that right 😂 #hogfbchat
A3: We hit our counter plays for big yards all year. Simple counter out of an I formation was killer for us all Year. Easily averaged 20 plus yards per play off it #hogfbchat
A3: Added tight bunch (under center) formation to our offense. Were able to maintain same structure as our spread plays, so it really gave us some advantages running and passing. Started experimenting with pre-snap shifts, too. #hogfbchat
A2: Had the #4 QB in OC throw for 3350yds with 42 TDS, only getting sacked ~10 times on 318 pass attempts. Also had #4 WR in OC with 1400yds receiving. And starting RB had almost 1100 yds rushing. #hogfbchat
A3: finished blocks well as the season went on. Had an OL get a penalty for knocking someone down and then finishing them with a belly flop that made their shoulder blades touch. Had to chew them but secretly cheered inside #HogFbChat
A2: Looked like a completely difference offense later in the year. Early in the year we only scored on big plays. Added some wrinkles and tweaks later in the year to move the ball more consistently. More excited about what's to come next year with these kids.
Started in off-season w/ huge player involvement in remodelling our weightroom. Great ownership of that process. Also involved shift in what we talked about & focused/rewarded. Shift toward preparation/investment & away from outcomes, work vs potential/talent. #hogfbchat
A4. I didn’t like our gap game. I love counters, powers, traps. Just had problems all season blocking back. Anyone have any suggestions on how y’all do this successfully? #hogfbchat
Q4: We were not as crisp in all aspects of our offense this year. Had several new players that did a good job but still had a hard time adjusting at times. #hogfbchat
a4 #hogfbchat Nothing I disliked, but in the league we play, starting so many young players, including a frosh QB, makes it tough sledding at times. Look forward to the next few years as that experience pays off
Q4: Turned the ball over in tight games. Could never really get our playaction and pocket movement packages on track this year. Screen game was a let down as well. Lots of research to do this offseason. #hogfbchat
A3: taught the offense well enough to survive though some injuries. Had some hogs banged up and our starting QB and a Wing go down. Little hard to deal with our limited numbers as 7th graders. But still limited mistakes and executing the offense even with the injuries #hogfbchat
A4: Not a whole lot I didn’t like. If I had to pick one thing it’d probably be the fact we didn’t incorporate the RB into the screen game enough #HogFBChat
A2: new coaching staff this year and our offense held the ball longer than last year, scored waaaay more than last year and gave the defense a chance to be off the field, which is great for defenses #hogfbchat
A4: pass pro. Tried to limit and simplify it for the kids, being first year in a new system, and we had some trouble picking some things up. Bad call on my part, they were smart enough to handle it #hogfbchat
Q4: My season has been over for two weeks and I am still looking for a sniffer that can do what I need him to so apparently I didn't do a good job coaching our sniffers. #hogfbchat
Sprint out protection was a mess all year. We will need to re-scheme or add sprint draw and a few things to keep people In check.
We could stand to improve from the sniffer tendency/key. But broke School single rushing record and td record so hard to argue 🤷🏻♂️ #hogfbchat
A4. I wanted to use more 10 and 11 personal. Use more spread formations, roll my QB more, and use more of the IZ/OZ read game. I also fought hard for tempo and it fell on deaf ears. #HogFbChat
A4: We were not very good in the passing game. Our best pass play would be our athlete QB pulling it down and running to daylight. Ball in the air was scary. #hogfbchat
A4: See a lot of guys trying to do things that their kids can’t do. Don’t put them in bad spots from the jump, it’s not coaching; it’s stupidity. #HogFbChat
We had to shuffle OL quite a bit due to injuries and poor play. The injuries were the killer more than anything. We weren’t able to establish continuity until about week 7. The pass pro was also not as good as we wanted. #hogfbchat
A4: Not a whole lot that I disliked but if I had to point out anything it was running IZ a lot down the stretch. More of a gap scheme guy! Understand why but would of loved to run more power!! #hogfbchat
A4: I did a terrible job of communicating with coaches. Week 8 I realized that me, RB, OL Coach were not on the same page for Power. Finally figured that out. #HOGFBCHAT
HSSocialMedia : RT jakesnod: #hogfbchat A3 we minimized mistakes more so than any point in my career. Our group communicated better than anybody else and it showed on game day.
A4: we went to a shotgun package and spent a good amount of time on it in practice. We quickly realized why we havent been a shotgun team. Lol #hogfbchat
A4: At times we got predictable by formation or personnel need to do a better job changing things up from those looks or using them as decoys to open up other plays #hogfbchat
A4: As the OC i didn't focus on the spread triple option concepts early enough. We waited until the bye week and could/should have implemented earlier. Our Red Zone efficiency was terrible...that's my focus this off-season. #hogfbchat
A4: We still made a lot of mistakes. OL took a bit longer to mesh than I anticipated. The 3 returners up front doubled their pancakes from last season BUT we could've finished WAY more blocks. The good thing was they got so much better and 4 of my 5 guys are returning.
#hogfbchat
A4: I know I said we got better at 50 protection, but the flip side to that is we got away from Slide Protection, which I’m more comfortable with my guys I had. #HOGFBCHAT
A4: our slow screen needs improving, and most of it is blocking. Hard to complain with 6600 yards in 13 games but left too many pts on the table in the last one we lost Friday 😢 #hogfbchat
A4: I don’t comment on anything that isn’t my responsibility. I’m in charge of blocking scheme. Felt like I waited too long to make the adjustment to fan outside techs in certain alignments too late in the year. #HogFBChat
We didn’t do any tempo til this year. We used the card system. OC signaled in formation and we had a hot card and a dummy card. Each card had 4 plays. Play depended on what quarter we were in. #HogFBChat
A4: never found an identity on offense. Lots of mental mistakes. Didn’t win a lot of the 1v1 matchups. Looking forward to refocusing this offseason. #hogfbchat
A4: I didn't like how we were doing inside zone the first part of the year...adjusted the teaching of it to more of a veer scheme. Really the same thing on paper but the language seems to help our kids. We need to improve our 10pp run game #hogfbchat
A4: This is a tough question to answer without ruining my night. Couldn't get inside zone going as well as we wanted it to. Install it day one, it's supposed to be our bread and butter. It was neither. Now my blood pressure is spiking. Great. Thanks guys. #hogfbchat
Sprint out protection was a mess all year. We will need to re-scheme or add sprint draw and a few things to keep people In check.
We could stand to improve from the sniffer tendency/key. But broke School single rushing record and td record so hard to argue 🤷🏻♂️ #hogfbchat
A4: Turned our toss into a read, which looked good in summer, but in season wasn't any more effective than speed option. Going back to pin & pull next year. #hogfbchat
A4: That we couldn't run power as successfully as in the past. Guys struggled on the playside more than in the past with rules. We'll get better next year with 4 starters returning. #hogfbchat
A4: started 5 skill guys both ways, including my QB & RB. Really impacted our 2nd half production, esp. our passing game. Only had 23-27 kids for much of season (depending on injuries), so was hard to avoid. Development will be a major focus for our staff this season. #hogfbchat
A4: every Sunday meeting, we would talk about whatever we weren't good at in the previous game but then didn't present a way to fix it. Saying we don't have a mobile QB just because he isn't a track star and then not using him for teams to stay honest #hogfbchat
A4: Gotta use more motion and triple O/RPO to create more lanes for us and remove the box better. Had to stay pretty vanilla in year one. Will only get better. #hogfbchat
Started the season in Flexbone. Really liked veer, midline and playaction off of. Given the chance, could have had a lot of fun w/ that down the stretch! #HogFbChat
A4: every Sunday meeting, we would talk about whatever we weren't good at in the previous game but then didn't present a way to fix it. Saying we don't have a mobile QB just because he isn't a track star and then not using him for teams to stay honest #hogfbchat
A4- First year OLine Coach. Was so focused on "where to go", oftentimes did not teach "how to get there". Technique suffered tremendously. Lesson learned. #hogfbchat
A4: Had a kid who I put on JV to start the year who came up and started our final 3 games and finished 3rd in grades and 3rd in Pancakes in 3 varsity starts...ooops 😳 #HogFBChat
A4 cont. This all may explain why I am a free agent now. Lol! Love my old HC. Lots of philosophical differences though. Wasn’t good for the kids to be fighting with the HC on the sidelines. #HogFbChat
A4: we also struggled as the year went on in our pass pro. It was very disappointing for me as a coach because i felt as though I wasnt coaching it in a way our kids understood. Point of emphasis for me this offseason #hogfbchat
Gentleman (and ladies) that’s a wrap! It was amazing to be back on Monday nights with you all though! We are looking forward to many many more #hogfbchat
#HogFbChat A-3: We focused a little more on game planning, and cut down on plays that were not productive for us. Fewer plays in play sheet equals more reps on our more productive plays.
#hogfbchat A4 I wasn't able to form a quality relationship with a couple of guys during the season, I really need to get on that in the offseason in summer.
Struggled in cutting so we just stoped doing it. We would have moments that we could not block anyone. The backside LB was the best position vs us because we could not block him #hogfbchat
A4: offense as a whole had wayyyyyy too many penalties and they all seemed to come at the worst times. Need to clean that up and not play defense against ourselves #HogFBChat
A4: I hated our inconsistent play offensively...we averaged 27.18 points per game but had four games over 40 and four games with 14 or fewer. We have to be more consistent in the future if we expect to advance. #hogfbchat
Hey coaches if you are looking for a great off-season clinic please check out https://t.co/c89tFxREJr we are holding our Spread and Defensive Clinic March 9th-10th at the Embassy Suites in Beautiful Hoover, AL. Very inexpensive and expected to be a great time! #hogfbchat
A4: offensively our scheme is great. I didn't like how fast it had to all be in since we arrived late. But I love where I am and what I do. I mostly disliked that our guys haven't fully bought in yet and we punted too damn much. #hogfbchat
A4: We struggled to finish drives and convert inside the redzone. Also struggled with some short yardage situations. Have some work to do to improve these aspects. #hogfbchat#mtzmade
@HogFbChat going to have to bail next week. Birthday on Monday and the wife is working in Tallahassee that week. Going to have the best pizza at Momo’s and stay w her. Y’all have a blast #hogfbchat
#HogFbChat A-3: We focused a little more on game planning, and cut down on plays that were not productive for us. Fewer plays in play sheet equals more reps on our more productive plays.
A4 cont: We couldn’t run the ball, mostly because of inconsistent OL play. Never found a group that could work with consistent play. Disappointing for me, should have been able to figure it out, and fix it! Not going to happen again... #hogfbchat
Well since it’s officially #ChalkTalkSzn if any of you guys wanna talk ball, just holler at me on here or email me (in bio)
Always looking to get better!
#hogfbchat
Coaches thank you for joining the #HogFbChat tonight! Check out our website https://t.co/rZAYKV3Zrz and check out the Coaches Tool Chest I just added a boat load of film. And we will see you next week!
I feel rejuvenated after #hogfbchat tonight. Sad to see that it’s already over. Already looking forward to next week. On the plus side, Christmas tree is up and decorated 👍🏼🎄
@CoachShiffman A4 we have got to do a better job of pass pro when we do throw the ball...will be working to shore that up this season for sure #hogfbchat
A3: We used wrist bands for the first time and it really helped execution. Telling the kids exactly what to do helped a ton cutting out mistakes. #hogfbchat
A3. We focused on the details on a few plays and made them much better for out attack. Really showed the ability to fix issues. Have to attack some others this off season and have all of our offense that focused. #HogFbChat
A4 cont. We didn't utilize some of the tools in the right places until later in the season. Had a couple of guys out of place and had to yeah them multiple positions during the season. #hogfbchat
A4 #HogFBChat actually really liked how our OC/HC called the Offense this year cause it got the ball into our playmakers hands especially on the perimeter. Would’ve liked to run more option cause it’s what I know from time at UNM but love what we’re doin!
A4: I felt we could have done better across the board of maintaining blocks from snap thru the whistle. A lot of great first contact subsided. Leading the way to next seasons mission "Progression to Aggression"
We began doing that, as well, mid to late season. Opened things up well. First score in Regional Champ game was 25 yard QB run. Nice play action off of that, too. #hogfbchat
A1: We’re one of the lucky ones 12-0 and playing for a championship Friday night. We had to practice through this first one, but looking forward to #HogFBChat!
A1: Far better than many outside the program expected, still a bit short of what I expected. Second round playoff loss, but first playoff win for the HS since 2012 and we’ve laid a strong foundation for the future. #HogFBChat
We will change it up. Depends on if the big fellas are having issues with the backside DT shoving them down the line or not. Same goes for the BSLB we will block half zone frontside and backside base and read bslb for an RPO. #Hogfbchat
