Our chat will focus on the idea that we can lead and make positive change from any position in our school systems. Leadership is not about a title, it is a way of thinking and acting.
Meredith joining from SW Florida. "The Night Before Christmas" is my favorite holiday book. As a child it was read to me so many times, I had it memorized. #LeadLAP
My favorite is a locally written book that my parents had autographed for me. I remember how proud my dad was to share it with me. It still is kept in my home office as a reminder of those memories #LeadLAP#LeadLIT
Good morning, #LeadLAP! I answered the media center phone like this all week - it was great!
Alicia from NC & my favorite holiday book isn't a "holiday book". I love The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein for the holiday seasons!
That's a classic!
I love the "Don't touch the button" Series. Great Read Alouds! I always read, "Llama Llama, Holiday Drama" to my students as well #LeadLAP#LeadLIT
How sweet!! I love it! I used it in elem to encourage my Ss to figure out who their "giving tree" was and then make a plan to nourish the tree rather than cut it down. It was so sweet to hear their plans! #LeadLAP#LeadLIT
A1: I really share everything I read and learn with my staff. When I learn something new, I want to get it to them right away so I use Google Classroom and share. Whether it's a books, a blog, a technique or just something I read on twitter, I share #LeadLAP
A1: Each of my Ss know about #DBC50Summer and #DBCBookBlogs - many of them follow my blog (bless their hearts). I also make my own reading goal with them as they set their own goals. We constantly share favorites and new book recommendations. #LeadLAP#LeadLIT
A1: Another simple strategy is to add what you are reading to staff memos, your email signature, or a widget in your blog/websites #LeadLAP#LeadLIT@burgess_shelley@BethHouf
Good morning #LeadLAP I’m Marcia from Atwater CA, #tosa new teacher induction mentor. I have a Christmas book full of stories, but I love ‘twas the night before Christmas’ #Leadlit

A1 - The only way to share our passion is to practice and show our passion! If we are not actively engaged in the process, modelling reading, sharing text, being excited about literature, it’s difficult to ignite the fire in those around us. #leadLAP#leadLIT
I guess #sketchnotes and chats are the way I share with colleagues. With the kiddos it’s all about the way I talk about books. Building them up. Saying how awesome this one was when I first read it. Hooks!!! #tlap#LEADLAP#LeadLIT
In reply to
@mandyeellis, @burgess_shelley, @BethHouf
A2) I share my passion for reading with Ss by creating a display of monthly book recommendations. A lot of them just don’t know where to start so they get a sneak peek. #reading#ELA#LeadLAP
A1: I post a simple sign on the bord with what I finished reading and what I’m currently reading.
It inspires my students to read more!
I also tweet quotes from what I’m reading!
#leadLAP
A1: If I go in a classroom and I see something that reminds me of something I saw in a book or a chat, I'll immediately order the book for that teacher and make sure they know the impact of their work #LeadLAP
A1: Besides tweeting or sharing on Instagram, I’m always talking about what I’m reading in any conversation I have, kids or adults. When I stop in classrooms I love to talk to kids about the books they are reading and follow up when I see them in the hall. #LeadLap
A1: I do virtual read alouds over the summer, have the bulletin board below posted in the front office, and always include an article I have read in our Week Ahead for staff. #LeadLAP
A1. I would read the monthly issue of @EducationalLeadership from ASCD and quickly pass it on to the educator in the building whose role best matched the current monthly theme. #LeadLAP
A1: Here's another strategy to share what you are reading complete with posters to print off and hang up... Check it out on my blog at https://t.co/pVLQFUyaLk#LeadLAP#LeadLIT
Hi #LeadLAP Beth from New York, going to try to keep up with you all today, while trying to finish all grading! I have to agree with @burgess_shelley and the Grinch, always my fav to read to my class.
A1 I love to talk about books with Ss. I go into classrooms to do book talks. & many Ss come to my office for recommendations. For Character Dress Up day I dress up as a recent favourite and character & advertise the book.
#LeadLAP
A1 With staff, I refer to the books in my conversations with them when it correlates to a discussion we are having. That peaks their interest. With students, I always lead off with, "what do you like to read?" or talk about an age appropriate book I like #leadlap#leadlit
A1: Late but here! I share my passion for reading with my staff and admin by buying them BOOKS! My admin get #LeadLAP first then #sldunktank from me, and autographed! The #DBCauthors are a fab crew! Thanks always to @burgess_shelley & @BethHouf for their help!
A1: Best way to share your passion for reading is by modeling it. Let them SEE you as a reader, actively share about the books you read, have your books visible everywhere, post your reading, talk about what you are excited to read next, etc #LeadLAP
A1. I created this template for educators to post outside of their doorway in order to quickly share what they are reading. When posting on Twitter creative educators share with me ideas to improve it. #LeadLAP
A1: Leila here jumping in a bit late. am As a district admin. I share quotes from the books I love in my newsletters I’ve also been known to read aloud to our principals #leadlap
A1 With Ts, always sharing my learning from edu books I'm reading to inpire them to be life-long learners as educators. With Ss, my own kids share their favorite📚 w/ me & it allows me to connect & have conversations w/ Ss at various grades about what they're reading. #LeadLAP
A2: We hid "Things" around school for Dr. Seuss day. When staff found them, they earned a prize. Promoted reading and positive culture. Win/Win #LeadLAP#LeadLIT
A1: With staff, they are about tired of hearing about all the things I read, hahaha! Thanks to @burgess_shelley & @burgessdave, I'm able to share the book with them after sharing some of the ideas. They sent our school the entire @dbc_inc collection. (WHOA) #LeadLAP#LeadLIT
A1: I carry one of the (5) I might be reading with me, “making it visual”, we discuss the books we read as a team, I buy them books of choice or some I think would be good reads based on our focus, “it’s normal to read & grow” it’s “expected”#LeadLAP#LeadLIT
In reply to
@mandyeellis, @burgess_shelley, @BethHouf
A1: I model a love of reading for my Ss & help them to discover a passion for books too! This year, I did a “Forever Books” project for my Ss! Thanks to amazing friends, each month my Ss receive at least 2 new books to take home to build their own library!! #LeadLAP
1st grade teacher here... 1st day of winter break! A1: If we want to foster a love of reading, it’s important to share OUR LOVE of reading with our Ss! Always talking and reading with them...#LeadLAP
A2. I love this idea by @ChouinardJahant of the bulletin board she created to spread the word about the professional learning books she had read. #LeadLAP
At the beginning of year meeting, all staff members were asked to bring their favorite children’s book and to share about it. It was a great share session. It helped staff grow closer and learn fresh titles. #LeadLAP
A2 The books we read become a part of the classroom. Props for retelling. Art projects to create. Or just tools for the play dough or kinetic sand to connect with the books. Snowman ⛄️ stiff coming in Jan. Can’t wait! #leadlit#leadlap#TLAP
In reply to
@mandyeellis, @burgess_shelley, @BethHouf
A2. Placing books about important professional learning topics, such as these about race and equity, in a commonly visited spot so they can easily grab one. #LeadLAP
A2: Actually it promotes rapport but also a love of reading - In Late Oct/early Nov., at a staff mtg, I give each teacher the name of 3 students from their class and ask them to tell me about the genre and types of books those students like #LeadLAP#KnowingStudentsAsReaders
A2 - Using read aloud with a STEAM based follow up & adding the book to our library for independent reading is sparking a ton of positive engagement. Using word work & @thedailycafe time to challenge readers has been stellar! Excitement & engagement are way up! #leadLAP#leadLIT
We had Grinch day with our 3rd grade team this week. I got to do the Grinch coding rotation, it was so much fun! #leadlap#leadlit This pic also shows my rigged laptop in an old computer lab w/no computers at all. ;)
A2: We've been shattering the idea of reading for points or grades. Instead, we promote reading for fun! Our students are creating their own goals each quarter-no restrictions on book types, etc. It's been awesome to see their attitudes toward reading change! #LeadLAP#LeadLIT
Q2: This is not original in any way, but my daily chapter book read aloud time is one of my biggest motivators. My Ss who avoid reading look forward to our read aloud. Former Ss stop by to ask what we are reading . Choosing rich, exciting literature is key! #LeadLAP
As a coach I would do a “Breakfast with Books.” I would book talk the latest books I had purchased while we had a delicious breakfast together. Afterwards staff could check out the ones they were interested in. Culture builder and interest builder in one. 😁#LeadLap
A2: Obviously, I do Live Read Alouds on YouTube during Snow Days and over breaks. This engages kids in reading in a fun way and connect me to them showing the love and importance of literacy #LeadLAP
A2. Our #BookCampPD website has a page just for YOU to share what book you're currently reading to spread your love of reading professional learning with others. https://t.co/2p5GsIuO0X#LeadLAP
What a great investment by your librarian that was! To think that it all started with your passion for all things #tlap and #leadlap is amazing, but even more significant is that your passion started a movement at your school. That's awesome!
We listen to books on CD in the car... It helps my own child/a reluctant reader connect with the story and hear a positive model of oral fluent reading #LeadLAP#leadLIT
A2: Book tasting! Participated, but haven't had the chance to do it at our school yet this year. #leadlap#LeadLIT In PLC's, I also want to model interactive read aloud strategies.
A2: Students need compelling text in order to engage in reading.
We used @writereaderapp to write our stories and encouraging one another to read our Immigrant stories #leadLAP
A2: Whenever my 1st graders are done with a reading unit, we CELEBRATE by inviting kinder or 2nd grade classes in & reading our favorite books to them... It’s always so exciting to see how proud they are to share their passion for reading! #LeadLAP#TCRWP
A2: Community readers are always a big hit with the kids. Once again seeing adults reading and having fun with books encourages kids to do the same! #LeadLAP
A2) Last year we got up out of our seats for an “into“ activity for Romeo & Juliet. This batch of Ss really enjoyed the theater aspects of reading and totally enjoyed the whole R&J unit! #ELA#LeadLAP
A2: inviting @alicekeeler to speak 💥& then letting staff select any of her 5 books for 😇FREE, school purchased books for all teachers #ditchHW ✔️#LeadLAP we have another speaker book in January @ramusallam 💥
In reply to
@mandyeellis, @burgess_shelley, @BethHouf, @alicekeeler, @ramusallam
A2: Our school has a "Battle of the Books" each year. Staff have teams and Ss have teams. We have now shared with 2 other schools & they do it too! #LeadLAP
Letting students choose their own books, no matter the level, and read for the sake of reading. It should be an enjoyable activity, not something intimidating! #LeadLAP#LeadLIT
A3: Every year for Teacher's Appreciation I buy them all a book that is relevant to our mission and our goals. I usually highlight specific areas that I know are important to the specific teachers and leave a note in there so they realize the relevance #LeadLAP
A2 #LeadLAP One activity that inspires Ss is wrapping up shared reading books in brown paper, attaching interesting quotes to them & having them make predictions. They can't wait to open them packages & discover the book.
https://t.co/Ru55zqJXlL
A2: at a previous school, kids donated a new book to the library on their birthday and had their picture taken and taped in as a nameplate. Kids would search for these books and “fight” over who could check them out. #LEadlap
A2: Use #tlap learning experiences with each story we do in class. They live through parts of the novel or short story, it comes alive, & then my Ss learn connect & love! I also paint (spray paint and stencil) art to place around my room that are based on our stories. #LeadLAP
A1: I talk about what I am reading and I always tease my Ss about exciting events, big moments, etc. that are coming up in our read aloud. They especially love it when I cry at emotional moments in the story. #LeadLAP
A3: Introduce #booksnaps and use @Flipgrid to share your favorite books so others can find books that may interest them. Works great for T's & S's! #LeadLAP#LeadLIT
A2 Have been doing more book studies for PD with Ts. Google Classroom Questions posts allows for back and forth asynchronous book chats and @Flipgrid has been a GREAT tool to help us have virtual conversations.#LeadLAP
A3: I blog my thoughts and reflections during/after reading. I share how I will implement what I've learned & look forward to blogging about how those implementations went very soon. (very, very soon....just sayin...)
Follow along at https://t.co/lByAl9NCqM#LeadLAP#LeadLIT
A3 - Previously, I would read, get excited & share with anyone willing to listen/engage. #HiveSummit changed all of that this summer as I discovered #TwitterEDUchats#PLNfamjam@dbc_inc#leadLAP#leadLIT. I’ve always love literature/reading, but Twitter has been a game changer.
A2 Because I live as one who loves reading, my kinders learn to love reading! We give books as gifts - and, yep, even wrap them ourselves. Nothing like Reading Worshop and Wrapping Workshop! #LeadLAP#LeadLIT
In reply to
@mandyeellis, @burgess_shelley, @BethHouf
A3: I try to share anything I'm reading with others I think would enjoy it. Just passed on @BethHouf & @burgess_shelley Lead Like A Pirate book to one of my staff entering Leadership courses! #LeadLAP
A3: #booksnaps, blogs, vlogs, chats, book releases on @Twitter encourage me to get my read on @dbc_inc is great for modeling this; we’ve done book studies, online courses or just share what you’re reading #LeadLAP need more ideas
In reply to
@mandyeellis, @burgess_shelley, @BethHouf, @Twitter, @dbc_inc
A2: I had a student literature night where we combined our love of reading with the writing of our own books. Ss shared their own book with attendees and then they had the chance to autograph a copy for parents.#leadlap
A3. #BookCampPD chats are all about educators connecting with each other about the books they have read. Yes, it is wonderful to extend yourself and read a professional learning book but fully implementing the ideas is SO MUCH easier when you learn w/ others about it. #LeadLAP
A3: Definitely suggest following the authors of any book you read - it's a great way to connect and continue to get new ideas. It's also a great way to know what's coming from them next! Many children's book authors will connect with your class too! #LeadLAP#LeadLIT
A3: As I learn new ideas from my professional reading, I share some of those ideas with my colleagues, especially ideas I think they would also be interested in. It’s nice when we can discuss the implementation of those ideas together.#LeadLAP
A3 Bring what you read into life! #booksnaps is a fab way to get others excited about a book! Working on a citation #breakoutedu based on @Marie_Lu Warcross #leadlap
A3: I ask my PLN to connect w/ my Ss for a Read Aloud #globalcollaboration!! I ask them to select one of their favorite children’s books so my Ss are exposed to new literature!! It’s been the greatest thing! #LeadLAP
Wowzers, Monica!! You inspire me!!

Me either! Except now I have at least 10 books on my shelf waiting to be read! Thank goodness for Christmas break! @dbc_inc books keep me going! #LeadLAP
A3: I love engaging in book clubs with our teachers and admin. For the last two years we have offered participating in a teacher led book club as an alternative evaluation #makingthinkingvisible#leadlap
A1: I share the love of reading with students by discussing everything I read. I love read aloud time and sharing exceptional literature with my students through my eyes. I also provide an extensive classroom library.#leadlap
A3. When I retired and reflected for months about how a chat topic could most influence the learning of teachers across the world, I decided on #BookCampPD. I wanted to help others learn with the most recent education books as they were published. I love helping! #LeadLAP
A3: Participating in book clubs that our AMAZING Literacy IST organizes & connecting with other educators around our favorite books through Twitter chats like this... Always thought provoking! #LeadLAP
Now that's powerful, and in my years in the business I can't say that I've heard many leaders take such an innovative and practical approach with students. Implicitly within that approach is also some great SEL.
Yes! I couldn’t agree more!! It’s always the best when you connect with authors via Twitter & then you get to meet them at a conference or they come visit your school... major fan moments! #LeadLAP
A4: I don't know if I have any on there from myself - but I LOVE when I get books from people who are suggesting I read it! I got a couple new ones from staff this Christmas! #LeadLAP
A3: I am lucky because my wife @HHEMrsBriggs and I are both teachers with a passion for learning. We are open to trying new things and not shy about sharing new ideas with colleagues. #leadlap
A3 We have an unmatched Dr. Allen book collection. When a large financial gift was given to our school, we dedicated it to finding the most thoughtful books we could. As teachers, we share ideas - even declaring one each month as Book of the Month. #LeadLAP#LeadLIT

A4. The books listed below would be amazing one's to wish for this Christmas. The books are currently the top one's from over 300 educators voting for the #BookCampPD Winter/Spring focus. Voting is open until tomorrow evening. https://t.co/XNJuz6jw9j#LeadLAP
A4: I have so much stuff to read it isn’t even funny. Working my way through @E_Sheninger’s Digital Leadership, a couple of Apple Books for our 1:1 rollout, and @JPosnanski’s The Soul of Baseball for starters. #leadlap
A3 I have LOVED being a part of the #CoachCollaborative book studies led by @genevie79cr Each chat about the book we're reading not only deepens my knowledge but also helps me be part of a community in a job that can be isolating at times. #LeadLAP
Friends, this elf has to leave early today! Thanks to @mandyeellis for leading us and to the whole crew for the amazing ideas! Happy holidays to my #leadlap family!
A4: I have an Amazon cart full right now! 😀 Justin T.’s new book for a fun read & @SteeleThoughts’s books for professional reads are just a few on my wish list. I am sure I will add more just from our #LeadLap chat! @Principal_LMS shared “Lead Like a Pirate” for the break!
A2b We are blessed with a beautiful storybook garden. There, we decorate see sections honoring our favorite books. Check out our "Night Tree" decorating. Thanks to Author Eve Bunting. #LeadLAP#LeadLIT

A5: The Secret Garden. A couple of reasons... the teacher who took the time to read it aloud to us, and intriguing characters with a magical setting! #leadlap#LeadLIT
I find the concept of ‘Balance’ a bit of a conundrum. I see posts from 1st and 2nd year teachers fighting for balance, asking for recommendations, yet I sometimes look around and think for many of us this ‘imbalance’ is part of our radiance as EDUs. No? #leadLAP#leadLIT#tlap
A4. The books listed below would be amazing one's to wish for this Christmas. The books are currently the top one's from over 300 educators voting for the #BookCampPD Winter/Spring focus. Voting is open until tomorrow evening. https://t.co/XNJuz6jw9j#LeadLAP
A5: I enjoyed Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park and any Tom Clancy novel. The imagery produced by the words made me feel as if I was in the book. #LeadLAP#LeadLIT
A1 Use the whiteboard ledge to display inspiring, interesting books. Stock the classroom library with a diverse selection. Read aloud and read together. Read across the curriculum. #LeadLAP#LeadLit
In reply to

A5: I loved Baby-Sitters Club books & American Girl books! Book series resonate w/ me bc I was able to connect w/ the characters over the span of books. Reminds me that Ss need to feel a connection to the char they read. Book Diversity cannot be overstated!!! #LeadLAP#LeadLIT
A4 WAY too many books to list! So many great #edu books always coming out! Am excited to start Make it Happen with #CoachCollaborative in January & am also reading Culturally Responsive Design for ELs: The UDL Approach right now with our Inclusive Academy book group. #LeadLAP
A5: My favorite book as a child was any from the series The Babysitter’s Club! I enjoyed the series because it was based on the lives of a variety of girls who were talented and awesome in their own right #LeadLit#LeadLAP
In reply to
@mandyeellis, @burgess_shelley, @BethHouf
A5: I have two: Where the Wild Things Are, and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. I think my favorite thing about them was that my kids loved them too. #leadlap
In my 40 years I certainly never mastered this thing I hear referred to as a "balance." I just tried each day to do my best and was present in life. #LeadLAP
A5: Fav and very influential book as a child (4th grade) was The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings series. I learned that one person, even without magic or special skills, can persevere and save the world w/friends. Face every obstacle one furry big footed step at a time. #LeadLAP
A5. My favorite books as a child were books about Ramona and Amelia Bedelia. Such funny girls. Didn’t always do what was expected. And talked a lot. Reminds me of someone I know. 😉 #LEADLAP#leadlit
A5: Howdy #leadlap from Barbara in TX; oddly enough, my favorite book was called Manners Don't Come Naturally, perfect for a #character educator, don't you think? It has a secret code page in the back which I loved!
https://t.co/FEXfeZE4ib
A5: My favorite book as a kid was Homer Price by Robert McCloskey. I loved the way that the main character was involved in all the different adventures. Retreading the book as an older student I have intrigued by the use of character names from Homer’s writing.#leadlap
My side of the mountain! It was a great story about leaving problems behind & exploring your passion, love the movie too #leadLAP#LeadLIT my T read it to us, then I purchased it
In reply to
@mandyeellis, @burgess_shelley, @BethHouf
I loved them too, and for the same reasons. ;) I was that person who met new friends every time I was moved in class. Lol! #leadlap#leadlit I knew I liked you for a reason. ;)
A5 - These two books shaped my love of reading. The were both produced into media pieces, but I loved them for the power of their story... For the depth of unconditional love and the profound sense of loss... These stories are still a part of me today. #SEL#leadLAP#LeadLIt
I am so glad that you shared this. One aspect of you being "Emily" that I love is how you are able to share your story and enlighten so many people who don't have such an understanding of reality from their life experiences. You make all of us better!! #LeadLAP
My mom read Where the Red Fern grows to us in 7th grade. She made even the boys tear up toward the end of the book (no spoiler or anything). I had her read it to my novels class the last few years too! She still can make the tears well up in all eyes! #LeadLAP
A6: Continuing to read & blog all the @dbc_inc books (which may be a HUGE undertaking this year after seeing all the book announcements coming out).
I'm also finishing up my own story during Christmas break. #LeadLAP#LeadLIT
A5: So many favorite childhood books, including Letters From Felix... Always loved reading the little letters that Felix the stuffed rabbit wrote his owner from around the world! #LeadLAP
5: My favorite was Charlotte’s Web I loved reading it out loud and using different voices for the characters. I still do! I use to read to my dolls and stuffed animals. #leadlap
A5 "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" Having Barbara Robinson visit my classroom years ago was an absolute dream come true. She was everything you would have imagined - eloquent, articulate, brilliant and oh, so funny! I reread her signed copy every Christmas. #LeadLAP#leadlit
In reply to
@mandyeellis, @burgess_shelley, @BethHouf
A5: I loved all of the Beverly Cleary books. I remember my 4th grade T being so passionate about them too! She was passionate about reading all around! I remember this about her many years later! ❤️ #LeadLap
A6: I want to finish what I start. I traditionally start too many books and then I get overwhelmed. I would also like to read one non-educational book. #LeadLAP
Singing in my head “I’m so excited and I just can’t hide it...” Pointer Sisters, all while beaming... Who ever thought that professional reading would become a passion for so many of us? Thanks @burgessdave and @burgess_shelley#leadLIT#leadLAP#tlap
A6: I am going to get my 4 books read and questions written for our school's Battle of the Books! I also got a book for Christmas I'd like to read for fun! #LeadLAP
I bet that makes you more empathetic to those for whom reading is a challenge. Anything in particular that you tell your Ss who are reluctant readers? #leadlap
A6: one book a month is my goal but I usually read a few books at a time....sooooo, let’s push that to 2 books a month minimum! I want to model for my mentoring team that reading keeps us current & inspired! #leadLAP#leadLIT
In reply to
@mandyeellis, @burgess_shelley, @BethHouf
A6: I haven't written this down yet but maybe doing so will hold me accountable. I want to read all the major novels & books that we use at each grade at our school this year so I can better participate with the kids when they are learning about them in class. #LeadLAP
And this is why the power of story is so profoundly important! In this I wonder if you had EDUs who loved reading and if you had any choice. As EDUs we can never underestimate the power of choice! #ditchbook#tlap#leadLAP#leadLIT
I was the same way, but I think it was more the interest part. Finding a genre or author you really like is key for struggling or hesitant readers. #LeadLAP
A6: Need to carve out time to actually read an entire book with the relish and savor it. Life is so busy that I struggle to read anything thoroughly. AND thanks to @TaraMartinEDU , I have to create as I read! #BookSnaps love here! #LeadLAP
I don't think I've ever shared it with students!! I'm still a really slow reader! Going to PL days and they hand out a reading and put you on the spot to read it there makes my heart panic! #LeadLAP
A6. Part of being moderator of the chat involves reading a new book every other week. I sure have been learning LOTS since I retired! Oh, if only I knew then what I know now. ::grin:: #LeadLAP
A6: My goal is not a number of books or pages but rather to read 30 minutes minimum every day and spend time each week reflecting on how that reading has impacted my living... #LEadlap
My dad was a huge reader. He read a book every week or 2! He knew exactly what he loved to read. I never found anything! It didn't stop my family from trying - my mom & sister were readers too! #LeadLAP
A6 Continue finding the newer, best books. Pair them alongside classics, correlating them to our units of study. Tweet them out more with photos of meaningful engagements we've shared. #LeadLAP#LeadLIT

@mandyeellis, @burgess_shelley, @BethHouf
A6: I want to pair my reading with my journaling so that I have a record of my reflections, thoughts, questions, concerns. It's in line with what I do on my blog, but I plan for it to be hand-written into a blank book! #leadlap
I would read children's lit books during DEAR time when I taught 5th grade. When the students saw me crying they would demand I read the book as a read aloud. I had a student who would take the book and read for me when I was crying too hard. #LeadLAP
I’m so sorry I need to check out early. We have a pack of girls on their way over to decorate cookies! Thank you so much for hosting @mandyeellis Merry Christmas everyone. #LeadLAP
A6 - To use @mjjohnson1216 earlier post on the regular where I post and share with Ss and colleagues what I am reading... and to listen to what they are reading in return... To make ‘book exchange’ a shared habit! #leadLAP#leadLIT
A6 I started my CAGS program this fall so with all of that reading I am finding it hard to find time for other books. Need to learn to not just read in big chunks/before bed at night-want to try to take a few minutes here and there throughout the day to read. #LeadLAP
A6: My personal goal this upcoming year is to continue to diversify my reading. I am a person who reads mostly for education leadership and ELA, but I need to return to leisurely reading #LeadLit#LeadLAP

@mandyeellis, @burgess_shelley, @BethHouf
When I did my Masters, I got my sister to read many articles to me! Very much an auditory learner! I wish more companies would put textbooks in audio form! #LeadLAP
A6: My goal is to get started on the books on my wish list. As summer approaches, I will start looking forward to some of my leisurely reading books. #LeadLAP
A2. I love this idea by @ChouinardJahant of the bulletin board she created to spread the word about the professional learning books she had read. #LeadLAP
I love doing this! My ‘note taking’ ‘journal making’ has been influenced by the work of @HeckAwesome and #sketchnoting This process is great to share with Ss as well! They love seeing how we engage with the text we are reading as much as we love seeing theirs! #leadLIT#leadLAP
A7: I am going to encourage my staff to read more scholarly articles and novels to hone their skills as educators. It amazes me how many teachers have no time to read #LeadLit#LeadLAP
In reply to
@mandyeellis, @burgess_shelley, @BethHouf
Definitely! Thanks for dropping that heap of truth and wisdom on my Saturday morning! I hadn’t considered the influence my reading has on who I am becoming. Now seems so obvious.... #leadlap
I'm so sad #LeadLAP is already over! What an awesome community!
Thank you @mandyeellis for always inspiring a love of reading and learning. I *LOVED* #LeadLIT! Can't wait to blog about the implementation(s) of it at my school!

A7: with my team of mentors were reading the WILD CARD @dbc_inc , so I want to ask them what’s next?@ramusallam might be Spark Learning. I want to LEAD but also give choice. 1 book as a group, 1 book to pursue their goals as a mentor 😀💥✅ #LeadLAP#leadLIT

@mandyeellis I am SO glad that I read your book! I shipped it off to Annie Pavlik as soon as our two week focus was completed. Thank you for moderating this morning's chat and being a leader in the area of literacy!! #LeadLAP
A7. My littles are just beginning their reading journey. We’ll be making book bags for them to enjoy books of their choosing. Hope it sparks ownership and excitement of learning to read. 🤞🏽 #Leadlap#TLAP#leadLIT
