Join your fellow coaches and educators to chat about all things speech and debate! As part of each month's CONNECT Focus week we'll virtually gather to collaborate, ask questions, and network. #NSDAchat is an easy and fun way to connect with other coaches, teachers, and those who are passionate about speech and debate.
A1 Speech coach and I host a small tournament in October for about 25 schools. Biggest challenge to overcome is to turn over tournament running duties to trustee staff so we can host #NSDAchat
A2 Delegate and then relax and enjoy. The tournament will happen regardless of fears and if you have quality help, the students will have a great experience. #NSDAchat
Other program coaches--in CO very few tournaments can effectively run if only the host school coach & kids are running it. Coaches help w/ tab, judges table, extemp prep, judging, etc. #NSDAchat
A3. The comment on more sweeps awards made me want to share. At our home tournament we go deeper in awards by recycling old trophies that community members have donated. #NSDAchat
As a newer coach, maybe a "mentor meeting" during the meets? For things like "I cannot remember how to add points and don't want to read directions" #NSDAchat
A3. More opportunities for other coaches to learn how to run a tournament behind the scenes--hopefully to encourage others to take on a tournament themselves! #NSDAchat
Following up on Adams idea of schmoozing. I know several directors that leave candy/hand written thank you cards to admin and building folks in their boxes when they come back #nsdachat
I require my students to supply an adult judge which helps with numbers. I also reach out to communication departments of local universities for volunteers. Beg your fellow faculty. Email/stalk them in the copy room. Usually you can get a round or two from them #NSDAchat
Whatever food it is, some sort of heating element to keep the food warm/fresh is vital for judges. Sometimes judges rounds go long and they end up going to a lounge with cold food. #NSDAchat
In this day and age of paperless debate, electricity is vital. Access to outlets is crucial in common spaces for students and coaches. #mustbeCONNECTed#punny#NSDAChat
