Hi! I'm Joe Cambre. I'm an ELA teacher at Crabapple Middle in the NWLC, and I'm in my 10th year teaching. I'm excited to be hosting our chat tonight! #FCSVanguard
I know we're going to be talking about integrating 365, but I was hoping to start generally. What do you see as the best function for tech in your class? Efficiency? Assessments? Progress monitoring? Engagement? Organization? Collaboration? #FCSVanguard
Hello Everyone! I am the #FCSVanguard Lead Coach. I have spent all day working on Vanguard stuff and ready to chat with everyone! its a twitter chat kind of night!

Q1 The best function for technology? For me it's anything that engages the students (plus for them) and/or makes work/life balance better (plus for me) #FCSVanguard

Sometimes I feel like we have so much at our disposal that we can get bogged down by choices. That's why I try to focus on what's going to help me create time for me work with my students. Efficiency all day. 365 is great for it. #FCSVanguard
@Mr_Cambre hard to pick one. The most effective is mixing all of those together! A little bit of everyone of those really make a classroom work like a well oiled machine! #fcsvanguard

Hey everyone! Christian! AZ/SLC co-lead. Going to be popping in and out of tonight’s chat as i wait in the barbershop to get my haircut lol #FCSVanguard
A1: For me I feel like engagement and efficiency are my top 2. You can be efficient with grading, feedback, flexible grouping and differentiation. By giving the kids what they need they are able to be more engaged because it makes sense to them #fcsvanguard
A2 I would rate the use of 365 in my school low. Our 5th graders used SWAY to present their digital portfolio to their parents. Other than that, I don't believe many others use it beyond email. #FCSVanguard
A2 Technology is used across the building, but we are a Google school so 365 isn't used as much. I think 365 and Google can be used together! #FCSVanguard
A2: I don't feel like 365 is utilized in the classroom setting as much as it could be. Teachers definitely utilize it for PLC and planning, but the kids aren't as active with it. #fcsvanguard
A2: It varies on the grade level. Older grades utilize it more than younger I think. Our fifth grade classes use their accounts almost on a daily basis! #fcsvanguard
A2: sadly under-utilized. However, I'm pretty sure that can be said ANYWHERE, because there are way more features than I could even think of! #FCSVanguard
Office 365 is being utilized at a high level in my building . The apps that are available are great tools for collaboration, assessment builders, lesson planning , and so much more. #fcsvanguard
@Mr_Cambre the school I work with really started using Forms this year and they love being able to share instant data with their students! #FCSVanguard@ksuiteach
A1. The best function of tech in my classroom? It’s not the assessments, progress monitoring, or even engagement. We can do all that without tech. To me, it’s all about connecting with people beyond our classroom and empowering students with a real voice/audience. #FCSVanguard
Q2 - #FCSVanguard - I use OneNote on a daily basis for my fifth grade students. I have gone to the copier about 6 times this entire school year. We use Forms for numerous assessments. The students use the other apps to produce products etc.
#fcsvanguard
A2: Our school got 1:1 devices and I’ve been using Google classroom I have several coworkers that use 365 but Google is my first choice! #FCSVanguard
#fcsvanguard YES! Connecting is big and connection doesn’t have to be w people across the world. It can be across our district. We all know we have Ss that have never interacted or been in places even in our own district

A3: I have been able to help my team and others in my school use OneNote and Forms. Most have fallen in love with Forms, but there are only a few using One Note #fcsvanguard
#fcsvanguard that’s great! numbers are going to vary from school to school and we shouldn’t compare. Why? Because we have staff and schools at different places. Some places/Ts/leaders may need to focus on core instruction.
At Cambridge HS teachers are required to use a classroom management system but are able to pick what system works for them. Google is still used more. However, with the Surfaces teachers & students have started utilizing apps like One Note. #fcsvanguard
I always share ways that 365 can enhance instruction when working with teachers, but it is more about the right tool to fit the intended outcome rather than pushing the office 365 products. #fcsvanguard
#FCSVanguard A3 - I am the SME for OneNote for my school. I led a class on this with my peers. Peers in the upper grades have adopted this program. I share my “lead notebook” with my teammates for collaboration.
I encourage everyone I chat with to use it. It’s important to get OneNote on the desktop to avoid glitches. A few teachers are frustrated with the online version.#FCSVanguard
A4: I think it's important for people to see the value in it. The value of Forms is seen easily and quickly, but it can take a little while to see how amazing One Note can be! #fcsvanguard
So true @hlwoz! I feel that tech makes it more engaging while doing all of the below. Plus, with 700+ Ss the tech helps me (and them) stay sane! #fcsvanguard
The best function for tech in my class is all of the above ! Efficiency! Assessments! Progress monitoring! Engagement! Organization! Collaboration! #FCSVanguard#fcsvanguard
Q4: “Why fix what’s not broken? I’m fine with the old way” I think people can get set in their ways, or the fact may be that they are intimidated by 365 and think that it won’t be user friendly. #FCSVanguard
My goal is to eventually move to a platform like @DC_STEMtastic where she organizes all of her coaching sessions in a OneNote tab for each person. I have something similar but not to her level #fcsvanguard
Email me for a video of how to upload grades to your gradebook from 365 Forms. I'd put it up here, but being public and all kinda makes me nervous. #FCSVanguard Cambre@fultonschools.org
A4: enough training for teachers first, but also for our students. It’s not second nature yet for our young elementary students when Ts don’t use it with them! #FCSVanguard
We have all of the #fcsmusic teachers set up as Ss in a @onenote Class Notebook. It has been an amazing way of communicating both privately & collaboratively! #fcsvanguard

I think the number on barrier (from my perspective) is getting people to try or learn something new. Especially, when people are comfortable and happy where they are.
#FCSVanguard
Someone mentioned it earlier, not being one to one, it can be painfully, excruciatingly (add any other adverbs you choose) slow getting kids logged in. #fcsvanguard
I wouldn’t say push a number of teachers use it but for those few that shy away from it I usually will suggest using a few of the apps such as forms. #fcsvanguard
A4: The layout of Word and PPT are a little bit different and even for myself I just prefer to use it on my computer rather than logging in through 365. I always have my kids work in 365 though since it auto-saves and they can share their finished product with me. #fcsvanguard
Google's cool, but have you every embedded quizzes and videos, conferred with students, monitored progress, made groups, and even doodled in OneNote? #FCSVanguard
A4, i believe people use what they already know and is comfortable using. Also, there isn't enough time given to truly learn something new. #FCSVanguard
#fcsvanguard 365 was glitchy and hard to sync a few years ago, it still has it’s moments but it a lot better - Ts remember the bad times & didn’t want to spend time with a glitchy program
I know we're going to be talking about integrating 365, but I was hoping to start generally. What do you see as the best function for tech in your class? Efficiency? Assessments? Progress monitoring? Engagement? Organization? Collaboration? #FCSVanguard
We have each T set with their own page for our feedback forms after visits. The content library houses our PLC info, and the collaborating space is used during PLCs or MLCs for note taking / sharing! #AMAZING! #AllInOne#fcsvanguard
It is an amazing tool. My goal is to put all my coaching notes in there and just send the page to the teacher as documentation instead of an email after every debrief
#FCSVanguard - To use it, you really need to jump in head first. Some people are not ready for it. It completely transformed the way material is sent and received. I do not have to worry about students not having work when they are out.
Do you find that teachers might know that they have a desktop version of OneNote, so they don't have to use the clunky Online version? Same with Outlook for that matter. #FCSVanguard
There are definitely teachers, admin who are utilizing most of what 365 has to offer, but there is still a good amount of us, who are not utilizing the apps or in very basic ways. #FCSVanguard
As someone said earlier, it's a matter of what you're used to. I myself first started using OneNote online and find the navigation of the desktop app a bit confusing! #FCSVanguard

Q5: All of the above. My favorite is that it allows me to differentiate. Especially in my team taught class where the needs are extremely different.
#FCSVanguard
I honestly like OneNote, I use it weekly to upload my lesson plans and I've used it previously to add/track student data. I am going to start using it more! #FCSVanguard

OneNote is my favorite! I use it for school notes and also grad school! I love how I can combine digital tools w/ the ability to write with the Apple pen or surface pen to highlight & draw key points. Imagine what a MS & HS S could do w/ that power? #fcsvanguard
Q5: I love it! I post our lessons and resources on our Class Notebook for students to reference if they need extra help or were absent. It helps so much! #fcsvanguard
I 💕 OneNote for all the reasons you mentioned. Video & audio recording functions and stickers are also awesome tools for student feedback! #fcsvanguard
Google's cool, but have you every embedded quizzes and videos, conferred with students, monitored progress, made groups, and even doodled in OneNote? #FCSVanguard
Yes! @DatoriaS does a fantastic job at using and building the capacity of our building in knowledge of 365. Once we show the benefits, our teachers are definitely receptive! #FCSVanguard
#FCSVanguard I use OneNote daily. I have my plans and then copy and paste directly from plans to student assignments. So easy to personalize with OneNote.
A: I feel like they may know but you have to get access to download the 365 versions to your laptop. My computer won't let me download anything without an admin password. #fcsvanguard
#FCSVanguard My entire day is built around OneNote. The students get all of their work, project guides, study guides, linked Forms assessments, papers, etc from One Note. Absolutely love it. I used Edmodo for 7 years. One Note is much better!

#fcsvanguard I’ve really liked using it for my Reading Bowl Team, great collaboration among the Ss. Also use it at home for personal note taking! A lot better than lots of sticky notes!
I think the biggest barrier is time. Time to explore, play and delve in deep. It’s a lot of work upfront for some applications to get it to how it’s going to work for you and he students you serve. As a novice it can be overwhelming. #FCSVanguard

I love OneNote! I use it for meeting notes and keeping all the grade levels lesson info I teach organized. When I just taught one grade level I would use ClassNotebook with my students. #fcsvanguard

A6: Over last summer, I went through the MIE certification at home. When I tried to use, OneNote, I got confused when I started creating classes, etc. #fcsvanguard
A6: Personally, I love it. I use the desktop version for professional and personal uses ALL THE TIME. Online version is meh. Desktop version is great. I wish it was a little more user friendly, but it does what I need/want for the most part. #fcsvanguard

There are some barriers, the author of the onenotes transferred Schools & the grade level lost all of their files. This may be rare but knowing this made ppl a skeptical. Also sometimes when we are collaboratively working everyone’s work doesn’t save its overwrites #fcsvanguard
Jenn.... What?????? Let’s chat! You know if the teachers are Gaga for badges, our kids would be super pumped about stickers! (Chorus digs my @edmodo badges) #fcsvanguard

I like OneNote and have used it for some personal and school applications. Once we got Surfaces, a lot of our students started using it because the stylus is so cool to use! I mean, it helps them be organized. #fcsvanguard
I like OneNote, I definitely see the benefits. My struggle in using it with students comes with getting them to understand it. I teach 2nd...any suggestions for me? #FCSVanguard
I have use the 365 forms to creat surveys, quizzes, and for our writing Wednesday with problem solving. I created the question, attached the teachers name & students were able to access, answer, & I received results on how each student responded #FCSVanguard
When collaboration in One Note I typically set up groups and assign students to work in their group. It does not always work as I would like. Overlapping and deleted work. Hard to tell it a students is deleting it or what??#FCSVanguard
Just make a quiz in Forms, go to where it says share, copy the link and paste it on the page you want in OneNote. It'll show up and they can take it in OneNote! You can distribute it from there to any class, group or student you want! #FCSVanguard
Most of our teachers are more familiar with the desktop versions of Office than online versions, but might not all understand how it all fits together. #fcsvanguard
Do you find that teachers might know that they have a desktop version of OneNote, so they don't have to use the clunky Online version? Same with Outlook for that matter. #FCSVanguard
#FCSVanguard I’m still a fan & use it on a daily basis. It’s easy when you have everything house in one location & ive learned to work in the program verses the browser, it’s more friendly

We find that when taking leadership notes that we have one person take the notes in OneNote. I can see having to tackle this issue w/ Ss. In ES we use Google for collaborative writing. However, it is nice having access on all devices & in one “notebook”. #fcsvanguard

I made a couple videos that show you how, but I don't have them posted here because it's public and it makes me nervous. Email me for them: Cambre@fultonschools.org #FCSVanguard
Love that feature too! I also love that if you copy and paste the title of an online article it adds the web link to the page in your notebook automatically. #fcsvanguard

I have definitely used Teams. One of my kiddos from last year set up his own team with me and some of his buddies in it at the beginning of the year to keep up with each other since they weren’t in my class anymore. I just wonder could they create a team without me? #FCSVanguard
#fcsvanguard - what I’m getting from this Tweet thread is that more training would be very helpful with 0365 - specific to getting Ts up and going quickly. Maybe summer or early fall?

We do that as well in our leadership meetings. Our CST @crysricks does such a great job at taking notes & share them out to us. We experience the most struggles when working on team projects. #FCSVanguard
That's adorable!! And I know Teams have their own built-in OneNote notebooks. I'm wondering if Joe can share his tutorial videos in our #FCSVanguard Team
