Welcome to the April #KatyISDChat! We will be talking about finishing the school year strong! Introduce yourself and give us one word that describes your day today!
A1. I would like to be intentional with my attention to students and their passions. Librarians dread the potential reading desert the students may enter once summer is here. My intention is to hook and work with as many as possible. #libraryfiend#KatyISDChat
A1: I am still looking for the organization of papers- student reports, discipline reports, to do list, parent contact list, etc. I’m getting close! #KatyISDChat
#KatyISDChat A1 Keep the focus on babies that stay quiet, but contribute in their unique way! BALANcE! Refuel and energize for what’s to come!! Keep a smile on my face that comes from my ❤️ driven by all the work mykoddos do every day!
A2: We would have so much fun learning! We would toss grades out of the window and just learn all the things. They might just be inclined to keep learning over summer break. #KatyISDChat
A1: Being intentional with my time. This time of year before the Science STAAR test can get pretty hectic. If I stay organized and focused it will all work out :) #KatyISDChat
A2. Movement. I would love to find a way to turn the library into a physical space as well. I give students time to move and spread out but nothing exaggerated gross motor. Our kiddos still need that! #KatyISDChat
A2: I am trying a couple of things- one is an inquiry project where they research something they wonder about and present their findings, & I’m also trying to teach using a question each day that we need to find the answer to all together (turns into their lesson) #KatyISDChat
#KatyISDChat A2 Genius Hour-everyone deserves to shine in their own way! Celebrate Ss differences and truly connect how those differences make us individuals that can connect as a class family! #BeTheChange
A2: I'd want to try to find a way to connect my Ss with Ss who have made strides in changing their communities for the better outside of Texas and maybe outside of the USA. Maybe even find a way to connect our UN goals project. So they know they have power. #KatyISDChat
A1: Covey’s Begin with the end in mind is so wide spread and powerful but what about the actual ending? If I need to be intentional I should also be ending with the end in mind. Assess how close I am to my goal and adjust to reach it. #KatyISDChat
A2: Having more open inquiry lessons this time of year could be cool. Giving them a question to solve and have them go at it! Or something cross-curricular. #KatyISDChat
A2: I would like to slow down and make some more positive phone calls. It’s so easy, but I get so busy that I forget to set aside time. I need to do better. #KatyISDChat
Q3: Think of a student you may not have connected with yet. He/she needs you! What might you do to try and connect? (Blog: https://t.co/SQqqDht7gR)
#KatyISDChat
A3. I DONT KNOW! I have one student that I can’t seem to crack (well I am sure I have many more). But this one runs hot and cold with me and I just want to shake them! The only thing I can do is keep reaching out and letting them reach back. #frustrating#katyisdchat
A3: I think our SJH Science field trip to @KatyShawCenter helped me connect with kids. We just went last week, and now I know more kids in the hallway :). Make life as an IC more fun! #KatyISDChat
A3: Stations over tough concepts, one station is a teacher station where we can connect. Also, I may reach out and ask them for their "good news" #KatyISDChat
#KatyISDChat A3Truly be empathetic and place myself in their shoes. Look at child in a holistic manner and be the best resource possible to build a relationship! Reflect as to why there is not a connection. That falls on ius and not our students!
A3: I’m trying to slow down and listen. There are a lot of demands on our time and it is easy to forget that kids are NOT a number! All they need is a smile and a caring attitude. #KatyISDChat
Q3: I notice my shy Ss who make good grades are the Ss who easily fly under the radar. I will make a point to set aside my time to touch base with them more frequently #KatyISDChat
A3: I think I may have softened one of my tough kids today. He laughed and smiled for the first time in my office. Which is crazy because I am hilarious. #KatyISDChat

A4. Actually reached out to a peer about this today. Would love to use more Skype chats in the library with other schools, libraries, and authors. would love to create a more dedicated maker space in our library. Also, i am going to solve hunger and slay a dragon #katyisdchat
Q5: When you start thinking about your “big idea” for next year, what might you do now and during the summer to further your idea? (Blog: https://t.co/SQqqDht7gR)
#KatyISDChat
A5. Start picking the brains of others. I find that i can plan really well when i have the critique of others. Now is the time to workshop and iron out the details. Also will allow me to find my soldiers. #katyisdchat
#KatyISDChat a5: my next big thing is trying to embrace more ADI style inquiry in the science & have students defend their findings with writing. If they can write about it, they understand it.
A5: It’s the perfect time for reflection, rejuvenation, and professional dev. It’s all about laying the groundwork for the next year. What do you need to learn to make the dream come true? #katyisdchat
Q5: research, research, and more research!! I have a dream to first become a librarian and then to implement a successful flexible schedule... I plan on researching until there is no article, blog post, or study unturned to figure out how to accomplish this! #KatyISDChat
A5: I am so looking forward to starting the year strong next year! I want to make my collaborative learning meeting more meaningful for my teachers. Dig into students work and refresh strategies. #KatyISDChat
A5: I want to work with our campus to move toward restorative practices. First I need to finish the 2 discipline books I have going. Also, keeping an eye out for any PD around this topic. #katyisdchat

A2 Creating a stronger online community for my students. I want students to drive inquiry and learning outside of class. I want to build a more accessible learning model for my students to teach resourcefulness and model ongoing growth and leadership. #KatyISDChat
A6. We have a wonderful library space that connects to an amphitheater. Don’t have a plan for movement yet but i would love to brainstorm. Maybe obstacle course reading (not a joke...) #katyisdchat
A3: Be there when they need you...continue to listen...greet them everyday...find out something about them that you can relate to...be genuine...let them know you care #KatyISDChat

SSR outside or quick writes with outdoor inspiration. Ss wrote amazing poetry the last time we went outside. Even one who "hated poetry" wrote a poem when she was told she could write anything outside. Cue evil and delighted teacher grin.
#KatyISDChat
A7: Stay relevant. I like to finish the school year in ELA with current event articles and activities. It engages the students and makes learning meaningful when they are tired. #KatyISDChat
A7. Sounds simple but it is difficult. Try to have fun! It is infectious to our students. It is easy to get swallowed by tasks and deadlines but smile often, laugh heartily, and share joy. It will make everything better for it. #katyisdchat
A4: I have not given that much thought. Students are really eager to share information about culture and genuinely show interest in other people. I think we could get a school organization that produces vlogs about their campus. We could start Katy2Katy campus. #KatyISDChat
I want to listen to my students more. We have pretty open communication. I really want them to brainstorm with me to improve their experience and the experience of the those coming in after them. #KatyISDChat
A5: What I want for my students is for them to become more responsible and resourceful; to be able to get stuck and find a way out. What I want for my community is for all Katy ISD campuses to understand each other better. More opportunities together. #KatyISDChat
