  • KatyISDchat Apr 12 @ 9:06 PM EDT
We’ll be discussing some of the points from @justintarte’s blog “10 Ways to Finish the Year Strong.“ Take a couple of minutes to skim the blog here: https://t.co/SQqqDht7gR #KatyISDChat
  • AmandaPalmer131 Apr 12 @ 9:06 PM EDT
Amanda dropping in for a bit after an “enlightening” day. I’m a Secondary ELA coordinator here in Katy. #katyisdchat

Lauren Hicks, ELA at Tays.. one word- exciting #KatyISDChat
  • KatyISDchat Apr 12 @ 9:10 PM EDT
Q1: If you’re trying to be “intentional” in these last couple of weeks, what would you focus on?(Blog: https://t.co/SQqqDht7gR) #KatyISDChat
  • BragAboutBooks Apr 12 @ 9:11 PM EDT
A1. I would like to be intentional with my attention to students and their passions. Librarians dread the potential reading desert the students may enter once summer is here. My intention is to hook and work with as many as possible. #libraryfiend #KatyISDChat
  • Diana_Sarao Apr 12 @ 9:12 PM EDT
A1: I am still looking for the organization of papers- student reports, discipline reports, to do list, parent contact list, etc. I’m getting close! #KatyISDChat
  • MrsJCrompton Apr 12 @ 9:13 PM EDT
#KatyISDChat a1: I want to be intentional with continuing to connect with my students like at the beginning of the year
  • MrsDeHaan1 Apr 12 @ 9:13 PM EDT
#KatyISDChat A1 Keep the focus on babies that stay quiet, but contribute in their unique way! BALANcE! Refuel and energize for what’s to come!! Keep a smile on my face that comes from my ❤️ driven by all the work mykoddos do every day!
  • RaftiesScholars Apr 12 @ 9:13 PM EDT
A1: Plan, plan and plan. Be deliberate on what you are trying to accomplish and does it make sense? Differentiation is also key #KatyISDChat
  • TheMsMorgan Apr 12 @ 9:14 PM EDT
A2: We would have so much fun learning! We would toss grades out of the window and just learn all the things. They might just be inclined to keep learning over summer break. #KatyISDChat
  • MelissaG72012 Apr 12 @ 9:14 PM EDT
A1: Being intentional with my time. This time of year before the Science STAAR test can get pretty hectic. If I stay organized and focused it will all work out :) #KatyISDChat
  • Diana_Sarao Apr 12 @ 9:14 PM EDT
And I know you’re going to give them great resources to access books this summer? #katyisdchat
    In reply to @BragAboutBooks
  • KatyISDchat Apr 12 @ 9:15 PM EDT
Q2: What’s something you might want to try? Why? (Blog: https://t.co/SQqqDhKI8p). #KatyISDChat
  • RaftiesScholars Apr 12 @ 9:16 PM EDT
A2: Connecting with students in different countries. World cultures baby! #KatyISDChat
  • BragAboutBooks Apr 12 @ 9:16 PM EDT
A2. Movement. I would love to find a way to turn the library into a physical space as well. I give students time to move and spread out but nothing exaggerated gross motor. Our kiddos still need that! #KatyISDChat
  • Diana_Sarao Apr 12 @ 9:17 PM EDT
A2: I want to lead a restorative circle. @MrsBeekTweets has already helped me commit to a time. #katyisdchat
  • lhicks922 Apr 12 @ 9:17 PM EDT
A2: I am trying a couple of things- one is an inquiry project where they research something they wonder about and present their findings, & I’m also trying to teach using a question each day that we need to find the answer to all together (turns into their lesson) #KatyISDChat
  • MrsJCrompton Apr 12 @ 9:18 PM EDT
#KatyISDChat a2: I want to try a new project as we review for staar
  • MrsDeHaan1 Apr 12 @ 9:18 PM EDT
#KatyISDChat A2 Genius Hour-everyone deserves to shine in their own way! Celebrate Ss differences and truly connect how those differences make us individuals that can connect as a class family! #BeTheChange
  • grantmsmith90 Apr 12 @ 9:18 PM EDT
A2: Prioritizing relationships even in this hectic season. It’s the most important thing we do! #KatyISDChat
  • TheMsMorgan Apr 12 @ 9:18 PM EDT
A2: I'd want to try to find a way to connect my Ss with Ss who have made strides in changing their communities for the better outside of Texas and maybe outside of the USA. Maybe even find a way to connect our UN goals project. So they know they have power. #KatyISDChat
  • kemp_troy Apr 12 @ 9:18 PM EDT
A1: Covey’s Begin with the end in mind is so wide spread and powerful but what about the actual ending? If I need to be intentional I should also be ending with the end in mind. Assess how close I am to my goal and adjust to reach it. #KatyISDChat
  • MelissaG72012 Apr 12 @ 9:19 PM EDT
A2: Having more open inquiry lessons this time of year could be cool. Giving them a question to solve and have them go at it! Or something cross-curricular. #KatyISDChat
  • grantmsmith90 Apr 12 @ 9:20 PM EDT
A2: I would like to slow down and make some more positive phone calls. It’s so easy, but I get so busy that I forget to set aside time. I need to do better. #KatyISDChat
  • grantmsmith90 Apr 12 @ 9:20 PM EDT
Love that idea! After STAAR is always my favorite time of year, you can focus on so many quality lessons #KatyISDChat
    In reply to @MelissaG72012
  • KatyISDchat Apr 12 @ 9:22 PM EDT
Q3: Think of a student you may not have connected with yet. He/she needs you! What might you do to try and connect? (Blog: https://t.co/SQqqDht7gR) #KatyISDChat
  • Diana_Sarao Apr 12 @ 9:22 PM EDT
Love this- goal setting, relevance, choice, growth, accountability...and more! #katyisdchat
    In reply to @MrsDeHaan1
  • MrsJCrompton Apr 12 @ 9:24 PM EDT
#KatyISDChat a3: we do group review for staar and it's a perfect time for me to sit and connect with those I'm not the closest with.
  • BragAboutBooks Apr 12 @ 9:24 PM EDT
A3. I DONT KNOW! I have one student that I can’t seem to crack (well I am sure I have many more). But this one runs hot and cold with me and I just want to shake them! The only thing I can do is keep reaching out and letting them reach back. #frustrating #katyisdchat
  • MelissaG72012 Apr 12 @ 9:25 PM EDT
A3: I think our SJH Science field trip to @KatyShawCenter helped me connect with kids. We just went last week, and now I know more kids in the hallway :). Make life as an IC more fun! #KatyISDChat
  • Diana_Sarao Apr 12 @ 9:25 PM EDT
It’s tough in our ‘get it done’ quest! Because so much needs to get done! But so important. #katyisdchat
    In reply to @grantmsmith90
  • RaftiesScholars Apr 12 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A3: Stations over tough concepts, one station is a teacher station where we can connect. Also, I may reach out and ask them for their "good news" #KatyISDChat
  • MrsDeHaan1 Apr 12 @ 9:26 PM EDT
#KatyISDChat A3Truly be empathetic and place myself in their shoes. Look at child in a holistic manner and be the best resource possible to build a relationship! Reflect as to why there is not a connection. That falls on ius and not our students!
  • grantmsmith90 Apr 12 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A3: I’m trying to slow down and listen. There are a lot of demands on our time and it is easy to forget that kids are NOT a number! All they need is a smile and a caring attitude. #KatyISDChat
  • lhicks922 Apr 12 @ 9:26 PM EDT
Q3: I notice my shy Ss who make good grades are the Ss who easily fly under the radar. I will make a point to set aside my time to touch base with them more frequently #KatyISDChat
  • Diana_Sarao Apr 12 @ 9:27 PM EDT
A3: I think I may have softened one of my tough kids today. He laughed and smiled for the first time in my office. Which is crazy because I am hilarious. #KatyISDChat
  • kemp_troy Apr 12 @ 9:28 PM EDT
Yes - keep reaching out. Especially to those who seem to be emotionally knocking your hand away. Keep reaching! #KatyISDChat

He did something really good and I obviously made a huge, obnoxious deal over it, making myself look like an idiot in the process! #katyisdchat
    In reply to @MrsDeHaan1
  • KatyISDchat Apr 12 @ 9:30 PM EDT
Q4: How might you connect your classroom or school with a “global audience”? (Blog: https://t.co/SQqqDhKI8p). #KatyISDChat
  • grantmsmith90 Apr 12 @ 9:30 PM EDT
Slowing down this time of year almost feels like a crime! It shouldn’t. #KatyISDChat
    In reply to @Diana_Sarao

There’s nothing to lose at this point! #KatyISDChat

  • BragAboutBooks Apr 12 @ 9:37 PM EDT
A5. Start picking the brains of others. I find that i can plan really well when i have the critique of others. Now is the time to workshop and iron out the details. Also will allow me to find my soldiers. #katyisdchat
  • MrsJCrompton Apr 12 @ 9:37 PM EDT
#KatyISDChat a5: my next big thing is trying to embrace more ADI style inquiry in the science & have students defend their findings with writing. If they can write about it, they understand it.
  • grantmsmith90 Apr 12 @ 9:38 PM EDT
A5: It’s the perfect time for reflection, rejuvenation, and professional dev. It’s all about laying the groundwork for the next year. What do you need to learn to make the dream come true? #katyisdchat
  • lhicks922 Apr 12 @ 9:38 PM EDT
Q5: research, research, and more research!! I have a dream to first become a librarian and then to implement a successful flexible schedule... I plan on researching until there is no article, blog post, or study unturned to figure out how to accomplish this! #KatyISDChat
  • MelissaG72012 Apr 12 @ 9:38 PM EDT

  • Diana_Sarao Apr 12 @ 9:38 PM EDT
A5: I want to work with our campus to move toward restorative practices. First I need to finish the 2 discipline books I have going. Also, keeping an eye out for any PD around this topic. #katyisdchat

  • lbergkisd Apr 12 @ 9:44 PM EDT

  • Jacobi_ez Apr 12 @ 9:44 PM EDT
A2 Creating a stronger online community for my students. I want students to drive inquiry and learning outside of class. I want to build a more accessible learning model for my students to teach resourcefulness and model ongoing growth and leadership. #KatyISDChat
    In reply to @KatyISDchat
  • BragAboutBooks Apr 12 @ 9:45 PM EDT
A6. We have a wonderful library space that connects to an amphitheater. Don’t have a plan for movement yet but i would love to brainstorm. Maybe obstacle course reading (not a joke...) #katyisdchat
  • MelissaG72012 Apr 12 @ 9:45 PM EDT
A6: Nature walks in science class #KatyISDChat
  • Jacobi_ez Apr 12 @ 9:46 PM EDT
A3: Be there when they need you...continue to listen...greet them everyday...find out something about them that you can relate to...be genuine...let them know you care #KatyISDChat
    In reply to @KatyISDchat
  • lbergkisd Apr 12 @ 9:46 PM EDT
A5: my focus for next year is going to be the word “why”. I want that to drive what we do, how we comprehend, and how we interact. #KatyISDChat
  • lbergkisd Apr 12 @ 9:47 PM EDT
A3: BOOKS! I like to occasionally buy a book I know a kid will like, and give it as a gift. #KatyISDChat
  • TheMsMorgan Apr 12 @ 9:48 PM EDT
SSR outside or quick writes with outdoor inspiration. Ss wrote amazing poetry the last time we went outside. Even one who "hated poetry" wrote a poem when she was told she could write anything outside. Cue evil and delighted teacher grin. #KatyISDChat
  • JBozkurtLopez Apr 12 @ 9:49 PM EDT
A6: I’m in a portable, so trying to plan lessons for outside on the ramps would be great! #KatyISDChat
  • MrsJCrompton Apr 12 @ 9:49 PM EDT
#KatyISDChat a6: take our activities to the outside amphitheater.
  • KatyISDchat Apr 12 @ 9:50 PM EDT
Q7: What other ideas do you have for finishing the school year strong? #KatyISDChat
  • lbergkisd Apr 12 @ 9:51 PM EDT
A7: Stay relevant. I like to finish the school year in ELA with current event articles and activities. It engages the students and makes learning meaningful when they are tired. #KatyISDChat
  • Diana_Sarao Apr 12 @ 9:52 PM EDT
A7: Continue to build our campus culture. We love the people @SJHCats! Snacks, word of appreciation, etc to make sure they know it! #katyisdchat
  • BragAboutBooks Apr 12 @ 9:52 PM EDT
A7. Sounds simple but it is difficult. Try to have fun! It is infectious to our students. It is easy to get swallowed by tasks and deadlines but smile often, laugh heartily, and share joy. It will make everything better for it. #katyisdchat
  • MelissaG72012 Apr 12 @ 9:52 PM EDT
A7: Finding ways to show my appreciation to my teachers. They have worked hard this year and deserve to have that acknowledged. #KatyISDChat
  • MrsJCrompton Apr 12 @ 9:53 PM EDT
#KatyISDChat a7: stay in the moment and not get bogged down with trying to fit everything in.
  • Jacobi_ez Apr 12 @ 9:54 PM EDT
A4: I have not given that much thought. Students are really eager to share information about culture and genuinely show interest in other people. I think we could get a school organization that produces vlogs about their campus. We could start Katy2Katy campus. #KatyISDChat
    In reply to @KatyISDchat
  • lhicks922 Apr 12 @ 9:55 PM EDT
A7: Ss benefit from you being your best version of yourself! #KatyISDChat
  • MarkMccord10 Apr 12 @ 9:55 PM EDT
This was an annual trip for the 13 years I taught science! So much to connect to in the world outside. #KatyISDChat
  • TheMsMorgan Apr 12 @ 9:56 PM EDT
I want to listen to my students more. We have pretty open communication. I really want them to brainstorm with me to improve their experience and the experience of the those coming in after them. #KatyISDChat
  • Jacobi_ez Apr 12 @ 9:57 PM EDT
A5: What I want for my students is for them to become more responsible and resourceful; to be able to get stuck and find a way out. What I want for my community is for all Katy ISD campuses to understand each other better. More opportunities together. #KatyISDChat
    In reply to @KatyISDchat
  • KatyISDchat Apr 12 @ 9:58 PM EDT
Thank you for attending the #KatyISDChat! We hope the last hour was enjoyable!
  • BragAboutBooks Apr 12 @ 9:59 PM EDT
