Love blog. You get the best ideas, books, inspiration!
A1: my fav blog to follow is Free Tech for Teachers by
love talking learning and the endless wild west of blogs
i agree! very inspirational!
A1. Social media is a great way to share blogs and find new blogs. Sometimes just one blog catches my interest.
A1: I read blogs from the student blog challenge. I learned right along side my students
We had for PD this year and for PD last year both were excellent.
We all need one for a multitude of reasons, but mostly b/c it leads to benefits for kids!
I'd love to read a blog from
What blog posts? It's been too long since I've written. :(
. I have been trying to get myself motivated to do a blog for years :(
Bonus ? Would love for to start a blog! Amazing teacher that does amazing things!
he should be blogging! Great teacher! Connects with his students
A1. I'm not partial to certain blogs, I'm all over the place based on what pops up when I'm online.
A1: Another great blog, Cool Cat Teacher by Vicki Davis
I secondd that! should definitely be blogging!
I know me too I just have to remember a blog post isn't a paper to hand just a reflection on an issue.
Any blogs focusing on tech with the littles? A passion of mine, and I plan to write on this topic, but would love to read others.
I began blogging to both reflect, and share successes/failures. We are better together! Time is a commodity with a newborn now tho
Cassie!! I have Free Tech for Teachers in my Feedly and Buffer feeds.
she would be a great blogger! love following her on insta!
both you and are game changers. thank you!
Cassie!! I have Free Tech for Teachers in my and feeds.
Caroline from Frontenac. Interested in blogging and all it has to offer my kiddos!
A2. Reflection, feeling like a weight has been lifted. A great way to decompress and recall. A great way to be transparent.
A2 To reflect on situations that you have and to share any new information that may help even 1 person.
. A2: Practice writing, share best practices...
A3 T benefit = new ideas, being able to see how others teach, what their classrooms look like, advice for new teachers
Q2 A benefit to student blogging is authentic audience and a place for them to share their ideas and support each other’s ideas.
Q2: Ideas, successes, failures. We can adapt, learn, and build upon others' experience...but only if we share and read others
A2. Teacher blog: to share the awesome things you're doing so others can peek into your room.
Q: Probably should have worded it benefits of blogging. I have a blog, but don't really do much with it :(
A2: for kids, teaches writing in a meaningful and engaging way as well as typing practice and digital citizenship
A2 Its gets Ss to write and they don't even know they're doing something academic.
A2: to write is to learn. reflection. public product. relevant, real time learning.
A2 I haven't really used blogs/blogging with my Ss
A2: I'm passionate about , student engagement, & so I love to share ideas and examples of those.
A2. Ss Blog - gives them a chance to have a positive digital footprint as well as open conversations about digital citizenship
Aw. Thx. I call my "Blogfather." He inspired me to begin. I hope to do that for others https://t.co/pxRCZ1MvJw
both you and are game changers. thank you!
The biggest benefit for is to move thoughts from paper to published, as professional reflection. don't do anything in my moleskine
Q2: Still fine tuning my use of kidblog with my Ss. They love writing about their interests and sharing their perspectives tho!
A2. S blogs allow Ss to recall what they have learned and share in their own words. Owning their learning and understanding.
A2: blogging is meaningful bell work in my class! Get to see students engage w/ each other. Makes me look great as a teacher too 😜
Great ideas! I am not always sure what to write about, being conscious of student confidentiality.
Sorry to be joining late. Loving the conversation on blogs!
A2: I tend to be a reflective teacher anyways, this just allows me to take it another step. Students today need a global audience!
I love using it for reading response as well
A2: students learn how to comment and interact online appropriately to help prevent another generation of YouTube comment trolls
A2: blogs can serve as online portfolios as well. Ss can share videos and creative works.
A2 Blogging can help students understand that publishing writing doesn't always have to be in a formal way.
A2. Blogging also allows me to learn from others, through comments and other links shared.
. I think the new blog feature in app is GREAT! All the benefits but not out on the Internet
Any insight to those that blog? https://t.co/K6V5g7PoUV
Great ideas! I am not always sure what to write about, being conscious of student confidentiality.
A2: blogs come in different genres. Ss explore as form of communication, analysis, reflection across content and purpose.
At points, the blogging process can be a form of catharsis after a rough day or lesson that didn't go as planned. Helps us grow!
will do! I loved blogging as a bld admin. I blogged to my students each week to promo leadership and motivation.
A2: for students that are visual and tactile, writing becomes real and apart of the student when blogging.
And you can connect globally to blog with other classes!
A2 blogging in the science world allows students to share their findings and receive feedback on a global level
Love this! Promotes growth mindset in ourselves :)
A2: as a teacher I can show my students how writing never ends and we r constantly rewriting to make it better
Absolutely....many times the purpose of blogging has no dependence on age
A2 Benefits to blogging. Makes you reflect on the GOOD. Easy to focus on what didn't go well. Feels professional & simply exciting
. I said the same exact statement today during a presentation on social media in schools!
My only problem, Mark, with blogging weekly means I'd have to have at least one thought a week.
Thanks. I just learned about in PD last Friday, so I’ll check it out.
A2 Bogging helps and heals
. biggest piece is to use them as platforms to show teaching IS a reflective profession
How I started blogging: Thought I had 0 to share. Kept running list on a GDoc for 2 weeks of ideas. List was LONG. I started!
A3: My Ss blogged using https://t.co/rQ8ZLI6iB0 to collaborate with Ss from around the country during the Global Read Aloud.
A3. I am working on a blog post that incorporates Padlet, periscope, and either or .
My firsties blogged as reading response after small group and quick writes
A3: we do life questions at the beginning of class daily. Kids post to a private discussion board but not really a blog
That is a great idea, Laura!!
Will do Kristoffer! Are you on ? Love to talk to you about it.
Love using with my kiddos. It is so versatile!
At times I forget that I don't have a desk. It's just normal walking around.
A3: blogs = publishing platform. teach writing standards/genres and post for authentic audience
A3: We started small. Take a picture of your work on and just add a reflection sentence underneath!
A3. We do daily writings so I let Ss pick ones they want to add to their blog. We put up things to share and get feedback on.
I knew you'd get Voxer in here sooner or later.
A3: With littles, you have to start out with teaching comments to others and Digital citizen, VERY imp to keep positive comments.
Smart idea! I think that's a hangup for me too...but having a list gives a safety net to rely on https://t.co/LQLxpsrMpl
How I started blogging: Thought I had 0 to share. Kept running list on a GDoc for 2 weeks of ideas. List was LONG. I started!
A3: My students used the Student Blog Challenge.
A3 lots of great ideas for getting Ss to blog! Definitely will be trying some of them!
A3: blog through a for process and reflection
Miss being free, but has been a great alternative and works as a portfolio for my kids as well
Will you share more about this? I haven't heard about it.
Never heard of this! Website to get more info?? https://t.co/pzLCE9dAuz
A3: My students used the Student Blog Challenge.
TALK on our own timetable w/! My top 5 daily apps. I don't feel truly connected to ppl unless I talk w/em
I use for students to answer a ? about any subject, to collab w/ other classes, as a thank you to presenters…
A3: Students peer edit in tiered groups set up by me. Highest need kids meet with me. We use a checklist I created.
They are so simple and versatile!!
A3: Students self grade their blogs using the KS state assessment writing rubric. We discuss together & they self reflect.
I have found blogging and publishing doesn't fit with most HS Ss today. They want visual blogs like
Do it, Angie. I know you have much to share. Blogging encourages agency, creation, teacher voice, & professionalism.
I will check it out tonight! Thanks!
the student blog challenge is run out of AU. Weekly blog posts are created for ur Ss. Teaches them how to blog. 10 weeks.
I haven't used Voxer since the last time you heckled me about but a good tool.
we have found that as well
they WILL do it inside of sites like . They don't want to confuse their "published" social identity with academic identity
There you go making me laugh again. :) in Wichita or Lawrence?! I'll be in Lawrence this yr.
A4. I leave questions on the bottom of my blog posts. I ask people to drop links to certain content. This allows them to connect.
Info For First Time Visitors | Student Blogging Challenge check out this site for more info. https://t.co/Fowdmw8x2X
Just like me as an adult, they should think about creating a social identity and a separate academic social identity
A4: students have a day each week to comment on each others' posts. We discussed what appropriate commenting looks like AT LENGTH
A4: Digital Volunteers! Contact & Amazing teachers who have developed a great system for feedback
A4: Comments are a key for successful Ss blogs. Otherwise it's the same as turning a paper to a teacher.
This is where I literally went from zero blogger to hero blogger
A4: comment moderation was too much 4me so I turned it off & chose 2 "secret moderators" in each class to moderate & report to me
A4. Also important to make your blog not too long or too short. Either way sometimes makes people not want to comment. Happy Med.
A4: Use when posting Ss blogs on Twitter. Go there & leave a few comments. Takes minutes, leaves a big impact.
A4: My Ss comment on each other’s, parents & connecting with other classes on Twitter would be great ways to get comments on blogs
We are about to change up tonight...Are you ready????
Padlet is a way to electronically document student work and even allows them to see each others'
DO THIS, my friends! Use Twitter to connect w/people, bring new opp'ties to kids! Dawn/Kellie are amazing! https://t.co/rlGjmtf5MB
A4: Digital Volunteers! Contact & Amazing teachers who have developed a great system for feedback
A4: Ss thrive on deep questions from Ts on blogs. They are compelled to respond. Ts job is to give them permission
A4: my student mods do a WAY better job than me & leave awesome comments. They screenshot anything inappropriate & send to me
A4: Email your Ss blogs to staff. My Ss were pumped when our high school football coach and PE teacher left comments!
Lots of amazing ideas tonight! We are going to offer a challenge in 1 minute!
. I always have to make sure they create those "academic" identities v. Social identities though
A4: use literary blogs to model critical/book reviews, memoir, and personal essay
A4: being a shameless teacher that ignites other students and classrooms in the building to read our blog
I'm heading to to comment on student blogs and give kids that awesome feeLING that the world is their audience!
Anytime you can get to write and express themselves as well as report findings, school will be a better experience for them.
Can't wait... Hi Doug. :)
Oh goodness, golly gee! I forgot today is Monday not Sunday because we had the day off! I missed the chat! I'll have to read. 😜😬😥
You are too kind sweet friend! Much love to you. Maybe I just might have to. Maybe, maybe!
My new goal...Comment on kid blogs every week! Thanks for making time to give students a global audience! https://t.co/OERGTcmEjF
Thanks for the the great chat ! I look forward to next weeks chat!
thank you for this great format and for commenting on my students blogs. They will be so excited.
