Q3- alignment 404 with 6 tech and olb rolled up outside of wing. Two 30 backers, wk side olb 2x2. Pressure blitz strong side A gap for buck and trap and blitz wk side edge for waggle. #425chat
A1: Have seen the true Wing-T once & was very successful with this alignment. My father coached for a Wing-T HC for several years & helped us formulate the front. Worked wonders. held them to 10 pts & their lowest rush output all year (had a 2k rusher). #425chat
SE-7 take care of C gap!
T-2/3 play 2 some with pulling guards and have them follow path.
M-40 to avoid trash.
C- 3x2 READ is wing. If block down, mush come and set the edge.
S-7x1 eyes on wing. Alley fill for CB
Always heavy emphasis on B gap!
#425chat
Guessing: Buck here
Q1
vs single wing I'd go to an under front and go C3 of there is no motion
Though we did put in a 'hip' call for 2 RB formations ALA what JMU does
#425Chat
A1.2: We cut the guards on EVERY single play. Killed everything they were doing. Forced them to try & pass. We subbed an extra LB for the FC. Put our best cover guy on the X & followed him everywhere. They had no answer for the cut guards. #425chat

Q1: In my experience, having seen Wing-t 1-3 times per season the last 8 years, I always like to set a 3 to the offset back and a 1/2i away. Takes away angle on belly, trap, and makes buck sweep harder on center and ps tackle #425chat
Ok, i haven’t seen a lot of Wing T since I played in Hs, Flexbone I played in as a OC and Defened a number of times...once vs my old HC...in any event. Since I am behind a bit...A2 I start by defending the basic balanced flexbone formation with the 3 tech to the field. #425chat
Agree. Gotta have a change-up. We used a little bit of line movement just to throw the guards off. After getting cut several plays in a row they would flinch. Slows the play and allows for penetration. We would also get into a Dbl Eagle, but not much. #425chat
We are going play quarters coverage and the safeties are going be alley players and be loud yards off the ball. Mike backer 7 yards off ball spying on fullback. #425chat
A2) put 3 to the field and 1 to the boundary, Sam and will line up over the slots. Back mike up to at least 6yds so the C can't get to him. Play 2 high safety usually rolling to motion into cover 3. #425chat
They were regular alignment, but everything they were doing was trying to get outside. We would cut and bear crawl to get penetration. For us, it worked and killed what they were doing. #425chat

A2: 3 To Field, 1 to boundary. MOF = 3 to Defensive left, 1 to right. Play 2-High, look like a 4-3 and roll with motion. Work on changeups to base scheme #425chat
Honestly, we won’t blitz much to wing T just for so many moving parts/hat numbers.
We want to be sound, eye disciplined, and simple to play fast
Similar alignment as flex, play 0 on the WR
#425chat
We will probably go 11 or nose up front with cover 1 or 0 behind the front if we decided to blitz we would bring Sam or Will or both RTDef425chat: Q3: What’s your alignment to the wing t? Also, what is your best pressure to attack this offense? #425chathttps://t.co/zHt9Huem4d
Didn't blitz much. We found, like with option teams, the blitzing can get you out of alignment. Gap control, cut the guards, and let the LBs run to the ball. If we did anything it was a LB Pop blitz (w/ a DL stunt). #425chat
Q3 (cnt): slant with t/n if you can get a buck sweep tenancy. Gap exchange with W&N for trap and belly. Mike in the a gap is always good too if he is aiming for mesh with off set back #425chat
As a center in the flex double 2is made it tough for me to get to the second level and limited our midline..but we had veer to either side and had counter as well.... i will mix 2 2is but prefer the 3 to field or QB dominate hand. #425chat
Q3 last year had a new HC come in to an opponent and brought the WingedT. It wasn't something we expected so i went to my roots and went 53, WS was the 3rd LB (hip alignment we got from JMU) put our S $ as the other 9 tech, C3 behind it
#425chat
The key with 4 man from vs flex is how you play the DLine. We squeeze the OL. Hands on and prevent second level release. It’s not penetrating at all which may differ in overall scheme philosophy. #425chat
A4 #425Chat
1. They’re truly are happy with 3 yards.
2. It’s about to be a blood bath.
3. Live in your box.
4. Ignore the eye candy and get your keys we have worked on.
5. Stay home.
6. DONT GET UP FIELD.
1) We have to be the more physical team. Period.
2) Follow the Gs, they don't lie.
3) DBs can't go to sleep. That's when they'll go for a fatal.
4) Force'em to be left-handed.
5) Get turnovers and stay ahead of the chains.
#425chat
Seeing offenses like these that are based on reads, emphasis on each player doing their job and don't get bored! Play extremely disciplined team defense. #425chat

#425Chat A4- It’s going to be a long night. We have to stop the FB and REALLY focus on resetting mentally every single play. Mental training all week will focus on resetting the mind each play and visualizing assignments. Discipline!!!
Q4: make them run side line to side line. Play disciplined in your gap and spill everything to the outside. They cannot score running out of bounds. For secondary, read your keys. These offenses don’t usually throw much, but are usually lethal when they do #425chat
Have to play assignment football, do your job and trust the other 10 will do theirs. Against any option we try to force it to the pitch progression and rally to the pitch. #425chat
A3: Love having 3 fronts at least with 3 types of coverage. A man, 2 deep rotation on motion, 3 deep. Also like swaping the ends and tackles. Speed inside slower outside. Changes read #425chat
Haven't seen a gun Wing-T team. I think Rockwall-Heath runs it DFW, but that does change a lot of the way you attack it. Like you said, hard to cut guards off the ball. We taught our guys to bear crawl if they couldn't cut. #425chat
Q5: What are some of the biggest problems playing teams like these that run these “old school” offenses and how do you try and counter these problems? #425chat
A4: commit to being gap sound and don’t try to win the game based on 1 series. They will have a sequence and answers at all time. Can’t cheat it. Play it straight up every rep. #425chat
Must create turnovers and win 3rd down, their objective is to grind and eat clock. Make them play faster RT @Def425chat: Q5: What are some of the biggest problems playing teams like these that run these “old school” offenses and how do you try and counter these problems? #425chat
#425chat coach your scout team hard and make sure they understand the intricacies of the offense. Later you play them in the season the better and more polished it is going to be. Back in the day you could just be Army or Georgia tech on NCAA and learn that way
#425chat A5. If you see it infrequently then being simple and sound is the starting point. Building time to practice defending in blocks during the weeks leading up. Wether Wing T, Single Wg , Flex...matching the speed of play is so problematic.
A5: How well they execute their base stuff and how well they know how to counter what they’re doing. There are a ton of flexbone and Wing T gurus! Defensively, you have to get them to play left handed and get them off schedule. #425chat
Our biggest problem was we hadn’t played it before until the regional final, so not seeing it before hurt and the physicality if it. They also did things with hadn’t seen on film so it took a little while to adjust! #425chat
Q5: replication in practice. Unless you run it, the scout team cannot give a good look. They are also antiquated. You see them from 1 maybe 2 times per season. Not easy to get good at defending at that rate #425chat
#425chat I limit the use of a ball if at all to work the responsibility aspect rather than chasing the ball sincw scout teams end up fumbling it a ton in practice
Q5
Biggest problem, again for us seeing so much spread passing game, is these offenses are football on a phone booth. We're used to defending the field. Now we have to put athletes in the box.
#425chat
A5.1: Easy, the mentality. Versus the Spread, you just have to make tackles in space, but don't have to "physical." Versus a Wing-T or even a Flex team you have to bring it. Your DL has to come to play. Penetration kills these offenses. #425chat
Q5: What are some of the biggest problems playing teams like these that run these “old school” offenses and how do you try and counter these problems? #425chat
A5: always an issue simulating the speed and sync of the offense. Also tougher to predict how they will block up since so rules based. Have to try and use rules against them. #425chat
A5.2: When we played the Wing-T team, we put our scout guys in catcher's shin pads and they had to buy-in to the fact that we were going to cut. The young kids loved it and it helped tremendously. Scout teams are everything vs these kinds of offense. #425chat

I agree scout team is the MVP this week when you play against flex bone!
Different looks in the box
Being able to read blocking schemes and getting off blocks to make plays
Players knowing dive, QB player, pitch player
Be disciplined
#425chat
I know when it comes to defending against the cut, I feel you have to have at least one live day or period Rogers. Feel for it. In college cuts can occur anywhere on the field so it’s a must.... #425chat
