Good Morning #bfc530 Kevin 7th Grade History Teacher from NW NJ Beginning to notice some familiar names disappearing into the rest of summer vacation here
I've taken 4 different groups and the reality is kids get out of it what they put in... todays group weren't great listeners and therefore missed lots of the good stuff #bfc530
My Humor in the Classroom page https://t.co/s7wNQpWdrO I will never forget teaching until the last week in June without air conditioning in my classroom in a NYC school which was no laughing matter. #bfc530
Yes, I use red pen, always have. It stands out. I know there was a push to use green some years back b/c red means "wrong" but whatever color you use will become that color your Ss see as "wrong" so I dont think it matters #bfc530
First real day of summer break begins for me now. And this is the time that I would usually be up and getting ready for the school day. Good to be here at #bfc530 (which I usually cannot make). Up reading and doing a little writing with this newly-discovered time summer brings.
I use scented markers or a pen in heir favorite color. Ss also use gel pens in various colors when they need to draw my attention to something. #bfc530
But the 1st group (last Tuesday) went further than I've seen...
#bfc530
They are exploring this Martian crater to work out what happened...
Answer: cliff fell over, meteor impacted and then a river ran through it. rarely do they get the cliff fell over bit and this group did.

Remember your superpowers to be the voice of kindness in someone's life.
Students and teachers will look to you how to act, respond, and treat others.

Lately I love using those 4-in-1 coloured Bic pens; red, blue, green & black. Use red most probably but nice to have the other colours as I circle different things & give feedback on their math.
#bfc530
My immediate feedback to teachers is usually verbal (face to face or voxer) so I want Ts to write their own notes. Their own words = more meaningful to them. Formal feedback is usually typed. #bfc530
From Tom Romano's WRITE WHAT MATTERS: If the learner is to become a master, he, she, or they must first be an apprentice.
My takeaway: there is something about apprenticeship that puts me at the table (here) WITH the masters. I learn a new skill or approach every day.
#BFC530
No red pen.
Students & teachers want to know how well they are doing. Providing positive feedback is important as it will motivate them to learn more. When they make a mistake we want them to learn from it as well. My Feedback page https://t.co/ceQhat5vCN#edchat#bfc530
I do NOT use red pen at all. In our building we use green (formative: green keep going) & purple (summative) pens. I also share what I call “glows” 🌟 and “grows” 🌱where Ss receive feedback about strengths and things to consider- I try to word it in a positive manner. #BFC530
I use a variety of methods, including handwritten feedback of any color on hard copies. Comments feature in Office 365 or Google Docs works well on a shared document, and audio feedback allows me to give more specific feedback in less time, like a recorded conference #bfc530
I shy away from red because I find it has a negative connotation - but our Ss are used to getting a lot of feedback, much of it positive, so I don't think the colour means as much to them as it does to me. #bfc530

Im the same as both of you. Not a rare occurrence for me to stay "Stop, Mr. Cullen cant find his coffee" and students will begin looking around the room LOL #bfc530
Interesting to note the evolution of the red pen via our conversation this morning...seems to be viewed very differently today than when I was a young student! 😊 #bfc530

Lately I've been working with flipping feedback - in depth conferences where I ask questions & Ss write their own comments on their work. They use a rainbow of colours! #bfc530
I'm never here. This the time that I am getting up and ready to head into #Room407. Without an alarm set this morning, I was up at the normal time and ready to. . .what. . .wait. . .it's summer. But there's still reading and writing that can be done during this time. #BFC530
I had heard that verbal feedback was so much more important to than written. I also noticed that student rarely, if ever, read my written comments, so I stopped wasting my time on them. #bfc530
Good morning everyone! New Baby + new job = not a lot of #bfc530 this year 😔 ...but happy I can join this AM ❤️ As an administrator most of my feedback is electronic. My biggest reminder is to build trust b/c then the feedback can come in any color ❤️ #RelationshipsMatter
Sadly that idea has become a dinosaur. Game 5 of the '69 WS Koosman goes the distance in a 5-3 game, no one questioned Hodges, today 1st ? during press conference would be"Why didnt you use Taylor or McGraw to finish up?" #bfc530

I use the same concept when providing Ts with feedback after an observation. This year, I even added reflective questions that I ask them during our post conference. I can share that if you’d like. #BFC530
I will have the 1st week in July off. Then attending and presenting at conferences plus getting into the new position will be the rest of the summer. #bfc530
Is it a prerequisite for teachers to have strong feelings about office supplies, or does it happen as a result of the job? Which came first, the job or the pens? #bfc530
I do too. I also like to read one of their sentences out loud & say, "Do you hear what you did there? What makes this paragraph so strong? Can you do more of that here....?" and then point out a weaker section. I want them to learn to revise & edit independently. #bfc530
Yes, we found it helped maintain consistency for our Ss and families. This way they know which assignments/ tasks/ products are formative versus summative. #BFC530
Have a great day everyone! I am excited that I get to attend a state awards banquet for an 8th grader I had in 2nd and 4th grade. It is rare for an elementary teacher to be chosen to go. #bfc530

My feedback tends to be in person and/ or digital. When giving handwritten feedback, it is in whatever pen color I grab from my desk. I try to avoid buying red pens since the color has such negative connotations. #BFC530

Sorry for the late reply. In Media, I’m fortunate not to have to give written feedback. That being said, I prefer any color other than red. In fact I like green for feedback b/c green=growing. Isn’t that what feedback is for? #bfc530
That’s the idea. I started this late in the year and can’t wait to get back and start from day one next year! I’m also going to start by giving Ss 5 min to discuss assessments w/our writing before they start. #BFC530
I love the ideas of color coding “glows” and “grows.” And, that the whole school is on board. Currently, I use whatever pen I can find and has ink. #bfc530
Week 11, Pic 5 of the theme, “SOMETHING NEW” via #TeachersWithCameras. Captured a newly discovered passion. #AELincoln Kindergarten thru MS Ss performing what they have learned over the semester in the after school activity: taekwondo. #xplap#tlap#ditchbook#edchat#bfc530
