CatholicEdChat is a twitter chat. Topics focus on discussions around educational issues for Catholic Educators and topics beneficial to Catholic Schools. We look forward to continuing to connect Catholic Educators online to discuss education and teaching with faith in our schools. The chat takes place on Saturday mornings. Time 9am EST.
Thanks to all the families, visitors and staff who came to our Open House. The display of our students' art, history and science projects made quite a show and we had a great time together. Art will hang in our hallways for awhile so come see! #FamilyofFaith#RCSPAorg
Good news from @SaintRays: Our high school will have at capacity enrollment this fall. Becoming a one-to-one school, improvingnour campus, broadening our curriculum, adding Steam to Steam to Stream initiatives and support for students with disabilities all worked.#Catholicedchat
This week I attended the Gala for schools in #DelawareCounty hosted by @CatholicEd6 - wonderful and inspiring to see so many dedicated educators and champions for today's youth in our schools #catholicedchat
#CatholicEdChat tweeting from the soccer sidelines in Arlington, VA today! My favorite thing about my work with @NCEATALK is the blessing of serving all of you and learning from the great work you do!
Good news from @SaintRays: We will have at capacity enrollment this fall. Initiatives that helped: broadening curriculum, one-to-one, Stem to Steam to Stream, services for students with disabilities, campus improvements. #CatholicEdChat
.@BishopMiegeHS students honored victims of Columbine today on the shooting's 19th anniversary. The 230 students who participated processed out of school and held a prayer service for Parkland victims.
I love seeing our students shine in acting and music! #CatholicEdChat important for the whole child to include the arts. Our 8th grade teachers made an appearance too.
My fav thing is brainstorming and working with amazing educators on their innovative ideas for enriching teaching & learning through the use of dynamic technologies. #CatholicEdChat
Hi, #catholicedchat. I'm Melissa from Atchison, KS. I teach 6-8 Soc Studies. Been a while since I last joined you all. Busy soccer season. But glad to make it to today's chat!
A1 If we don't share the good news, people will not know anything about our school. They many use past perceptions or myths about Catholic schools. #CatholicEdChat
A1) It is important to share news in order to best collaborate and hold dialogue regarding what works. I know many fellow classroom teachers, home-schooling families (and my wife home-schools our kids), and tutorials. Each has something to learn from the others. #CatholicEdChat
A2 because Good News needs to be proclaimed and the successes of one Catholic School create the message that all Catholic share tht success. Proclaim! #CatholicEdChat
At @stjamesregional they just finished Middle States Accreditation - It was a great week to celebrate the school community with staff and our visitors @ArchPhilly#catholicedchat
A1 No matter where we are from Catholic schools are a community. One school’s success supports us all, as well as the teaching ministry we are called to. #CatholicEdChat@NCEATALK
Amazing things happening at @AtchisonSbcs! 2nd grdrs will receive 1st Communion this Sunday. Band will do a great job representing us at NEK League Band Festival this Wednesday. Track continues to shine. And 7th & 8th grdrs read to present 20% time projs next wk! #catholicedchat
A1: We are one of the few Catholic Schools in our state to have integrated services for students with disabilities. So important to keep mentioning that this is needed and doable. #CatholicEdChat
A1. We need to bring the school news outside the walls for those who are not in our building. It makes a stakeholder one not limited by proximity to our school. #catholicedchat
#catholicedchat Principal Pollard here from St. Jo, MO A1 because out schools and parishes do do much for our wider world and community. Sharing about them can be an evangelization moment.
Amen, Barb! After all, the Gospel is the Good *NEWS* for a reason: for two thousand years, Christ's message has provided a novel approach to what the world offers (i.e., really lacks). #CatholicEdChat
Telling story so important. This week mom told story about daughter in public HS telling her to send little sister to Catholic school...Why...everyone in HS from Catholic school are the kindest, in AP, in Leadership, volunteer for everything. #CatholicEdChat
A2. Our development/marketing director posts Facebook, website and news releases, I do Twitter, Sioux City diocese social media person promotes from and for the 16 schools. #catholicedchat
In LaCrosse with grandbabies so just time to add @RSMSchools#CathEdSTREAM story: Coding lesson making keychains of their first initial in binary was a success! #CatholicEdchat
Absolutely agreed, @adkopp76! Across communities, we must remain unified in our mission of evangelization, giving our students collective hope for the world beyond our walls, long after they have graduated (i.e., oriented toward eternity). #CatholicEdChat
A1 No matter where we are from Catholic schools are a community. One school’s success supports us all, as well as the teaching ministry we are called to. #CatholicEdChat@NCEATALK
I have grown so much this year and I can honestly say that much of it was from the encouragement from my principal @MarliseAlbert to be engaged with twitter educators. Before I lurked...so much more fun to participate! #CatholicEdChat
A2 Our principal, admin. assist., & athletic director do most of our Facebook posts. Ts help out when can. We don't have an official tweeter. I guess I kind of am! #CatholicEdChat
A2: A new student came to our school to escape bullying. After a month, he went to the media himself to tell his story of welcome and acceptance @SaintRays. Student voices are the most powerful! #CatholicEdChat
A3 My school does not have one, and last #CatholicEdChat that was mentioned and I wanted to follow through w/ discussing that w/ my colleagues and forgot. Am emailing them about it now! Not sure if Archdiocese of KC has one. I'll have to look that up!
I didn’t realize you were at @SaintRays! I visit there to work with our @PACTatPC teachers. We love our partnership with Saints. My next visit will be in a week or two. #CatholicEdChat

A3 we use #edsup most commonly, but the teams have each kind of adopted their own as well. we have a marketing coordinator who is in charge of the social media and does an awesome job! #CatholicEdChat
If we are still sharing good news per Catholic social teaching, although this occurred ten days ago as of today, @students4lifeHQ fostered a pro-life walkout nationwide on April 11. Unfortunately, it was not widely covered within the media. https://t.co/Mf2Q0v1Tbt#CatholicEdChat
Twitter makes it so easy to live tweet amazing national events! Proud of the @CreightonPrep who is at the Academic Decatholon National event. #CatholicEdChat Good News Live!
I'm trying to explain to my colleagues the benefits of having a hashtag in addition to our handle, @AtchisonSbcs, but am having a hard time describing the different. Why should we have a hashtag, as well, esp. when most Ts don't use Twitter? #CatholicEdChat
A4 Our top three would be Twitter, Facebook, and weekly eblasts to parents. We also use our church bulletins, and Diocesan and local newspapers. #CatholicEdChat
A4: We do not do as much with Social Media as some. I know @spv_ri is a local Catholic School active on twitter! RI is ripe for catching this wave. I learned from @AbGreer and have loved learning so much from twitter. #catholicedchat
Q5: How can you get more teachers involved in sharing school stories and successes digitally? What has worked for your school or diocese? #catholicedchat
A4: (cont.) #catholicedchat We also have ALERTS that run through e-mail to reach parents. Our principal does a Monday Morning Message that is sent out to teachers and parents.
A4 our marketing people put out a "best of the week" highlighting a person (or group), lesson, and random wow factor that happened the last week. goes out via e-mail and social media.. it highlights a huge variety of things in our community #CatholicEdChat
Great question! I think it helps develop school pride! Parents can add the hashtag after their tweets and it's easily searchable. I saw come up with one and you start using it! #CatholicEdChat
Q4. We use Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Currently tweeting from the sidelines of our 5K in beautiful downtown Frederick, MD. #CatholicEdChat#smitty2karen
We have certain Ss whose parents have signed a paper at the start of the year- they cannot have their photo taken & used on social media or newspaper does anyone else have this? I have to always be vigilant #CatholicEdChat
Q5: Will be interested in replies because we are not there yet as a diocese or a school. As a consultant with @GCCE_LUC I give specific ideas for accounts for Ts to follow to learn about #CathEdExl around the nation and the world. #CatholicEdChat
I have seen teachers who will use emojis to cover faces of students who can't be photographed. @SMMschoolOmaha does a great job with blurring out names with a photo markup tool. #CatholicEdChat
A5: It seems to work best if you have one person coordinating. Teachers send the idea to that person-include a picture or 2 and just a couple sentences. Keep it short. If people have to write a long article-doesn't work as well -#catholicedchat
A school hashtag is powerful. Have everyone Ts, Ps, etc, using it and then share the hashtag in the marketing materials. Easy way to see what going on in the building. Tweets with images have more "real estate". #catholicedchat
Q6: Give a #ProTip for promoting the great news of your school online - Either a best practice, way to get started or a favorite app #catholicedchat#GO
A5. I had teachers open up or start Twitter accounts during a staff PD session. Most had forgotten how to access their account. One has ventured out a bit. Others? Not so much. We need to revisit this topic. #catholicedchat
#catholicedchat a5: my teachers post a lot on personal Facebook and our private group school fb(which I highly recommend having for your school) some use seesaw & class dojo. Most use @SycamoreEdu for class e-newsletters.

Training Ts is a great idea! You never know the fruit that will come from that training. A former T of ours, @CstartFly, trained me at an @EdcampKS last summer. I didn't think I'd be believer, but I tweet about our school or join a Twitter chat regularly #CatholicEdChat

A Stay current, post often, and tag, tag, tag! Use a school website. Follow @NCEATALK and #catholicedchat on Twitter. Get the news out often of your social media accounts.

A6. Our school made a Google team drive to store photos. Each teacher adds their photos to the 2017-18 folder. When we need to promote on social media, we have photos readily accessible. #Protip#catholicedchat
A6: I have been recommending that Learning Specialists and others follow adults with disabilities on Twitter so as to stay informed about the real needs of adults with disabilities. This then informs our teaching and helps us give ideas to Ss, Ts & Ps. #catholicedchat
#catholicedchat a6: for comm with current families I recommend setting up a private group in fb. Principal and Pto heads as admins. Also, watch for others who try to set up open accounts with school news... They can be a big soc med disaster!
A3 Sorry I’m late. I run a 4 Day Program for Emerging and Aspiring Religious Leaders (PEARL) yearly. An extension of the program are 3x1 Hour Twitter Sessions, based on Pre-Posted Questions. The details are below. As of this year we will use #scspearl All welcome #catholicedchat

Yes! I remember that day and how clueless, and skeptical, I was about Twitter. So much has changed in a yr! Easily the most impactful breakout at that @EdcampKS session. #CatholicEdChat

#ProTip - When using social and digital media in schools, put the school calendar to work for you - Plan ahead for events and seek volunteers to capture photos and stories for sharing in real time or soon after #catholicedchat

Have a great weekend, #CatholicEdChat! Many of you probably know/follow @KatiePrejean. Enjoy this @NGRegister interview in which she shares about her experience representing young American Catholics at the Vatican's Pre-Synod Gathering a few weeks ago. https://t.co/yw4FKinS1L
