The #TXLchat provides a forum for Texas librarians (but not limited to Texas librarians) to create collaborative connections, share educational resources, and foster life-long learning.
Welcome to #txlchat! Tonight we are talking about @TXLA Awards You May Not Know About. Take a minute and introduce yourself and let us know how familiar you are with any of the awards at TLA.
Hello #txlchat I am excited to join tonight. Last year, I won the Media Virtual Presence award, (I am still in shock) but before that I knew very little about the @TXLA awards. Looking forward to learn about the other awards!
Jan Hodge District Library Media Specialist here #txlchat I know of a few @TXLA awards This chat has received a Branding Iron Award and a Media Presence Award
Sonja, HS librarian here for #txlchat tonight! I'm always excited to learn more about #allthingslibrary and TLA awards are a great topic for me to learn more about!
I am an Elementary Librarian in San Antonio Tx and I was to receive the Honoree @TxASL MVP award in 2017 along with @myschoollibrary. @utalaniz was the winner that year! #txlchat

My Delta Kappa Gamma chapter was awarded a grant to enhance the children's collection of the Whitehouse Community Library. First order will be the new Bluebonnet list. #txlchat
Q1: @TxASL MVP Award is given to those school librarians who show excellence in their virtual presence via Twitter, FB, blogs, etc. What type of virtual presence do you have? https://t.co/xOg36UERXB#txlchat
A1: I have a blog that highlights the amazing things students and teachers are doing in my #library and also my book reviews. I also use @Twitter to share. Monthly I share @SmorePages by email and on twitter as well. #txlchat
Q2: Shirley Igo PTA/School Library Collaboration Award recognizes an outstanding collaboration between PTA and the school library media center. What collaborative efforts have you fostered that may qualify your library for this award? https://t.co/ibQlXyMLQ9#txlchat
Just curious about A2 - what percentage of Igo award winners are elementary librarians? There’s just not much to our HS PTA. Even though in West TX, we’re a pretty urban school. #txlchat
Q2: Please, please apply for the Igo award. Last year there were only 3 applicants. Involve your pta in the lib's program and apply this year. It doesn't have to be a splashy program. Good works over time wins! #txlchat
#txlchat A2 I want to explore this possibility more. I provide support in terms of advertising parent meetings and being a guest speaker. Need to explore a true need in my community
Sorry I'm late to the #txlchat, but was cheering on the San Angelo Central High Lady Cats to vicotry in Volleyball! Ready to learn more about TLA awards!
Q3: Do you know a teacher who is enrolled in a Masters of Library Science program? What steps could you take to encourage the teacher to apply for the @TxASL Scholarship? #txlchathttps://t.co/rmbgLa9wAj
A2: This is something I need to work on. Our PTA always helps with Book Fair and our reading night, but I want them to be more involved in school wide year long literacy. #txlchat
A2. Just show cooperation over time. And there are suggestions on the Igo Award website. https://t.co/37reQTRyPo The site has not been updated yet, but you'll get some great ideas. #txlchat
A2: My PTSA has been a wonderful support of me this year! Author visit, family game night, movie night... I love what they are helping me to do for my school! #txlchat
A2-Randomness, but I volunteered in my children's elem. library while I was a stay at home mom--before I became a librarian. Would have loved to have our PTA's partnership with library be recognized! Glad it's an award. #txlchat
Q1: @TxASL MVP Award is given to those school librarians who show excellence in their virtual presence via Twitter, FB, blogs, etc. What type of virtual presence do you have? https://t.co/xOg36UERXB#txlchat
Q4: The Standing TALL Award recognizes outstanding leadership demonstrated by a librarian who is an active or retired member of @TXLA. How are you an active leader at your campus, district, community, region, and through your state organization? https://t.co/HPeOIGuC0b#txlchat
A4 I think it’s easy to compare ourselves to other librarians, to try to measure. But it’s important to recognize our own strengths. We ALL have something to contribute in our circles. #txlchat
Q5: The Library Instruction Project of the Year Award recognizes an innovative or creative library instruction project. What instruction projects do you create and design that would be potential winners? #txlchathttps://t.co/5XqKythx2a
A4: I am an active leader on my campus by chairing the Reading and STEAM committees, plus being a part of the planning of our family nights, and a leader in my district and region by speaking/presenting about being a Collaborative Partner #txlchat
A4 I was honorwd with this award. One of our campus librarians nominated me for my advocacy efforts on behalf of our district library program, and my involvement with advocacy on a state level. #txlchat
A1 I try at post 2-4 times a week on FB and 1-2 times on Twitter. It show my stakeholders what’s happening in my library when they aren’t there to see it for themselves. #txlchat
Many TX librarians could apply for this award. I see so many innovative programs described on #txlchat. Get those creative juices flowing and apply ASAP.
Q4 on my campus I do my best to promote what admin or our tech depart. is suggesting we do. I can lead my example. I’m also the elementary lead librarian for the district. #txlchat
A5: do you post the past year's winners, so we can learn from the best? also, it would be great to create a place to share all the applicant's work, so we can all learn. #justathought#txlchat
#txlchat A5. A project that My library initiated to provide speakers and life lessons to athletes during their study block won this award several years ago.
This was a great chat topic. I think raising the awareness of the various rewards is so important. We talk abt "tooting horns," but let's get awarded for the good work you are doing. If you are hesitant, reach out to past winners for advice. #txlchat
@laffinglibrary Thanks for leading this informative discussion. I know there will be many who will read the archives. BTW it will be posted by the am on webbly . :-) #txlchat
