Mindsets according to @drrobertbrooks: The assumption and expectations we have for ourselves and others that guide our behavior. Mindsets play a significant role in impacting on all features of the climate that is created in schools. #oklaED
A1: Life long learner, supporter of #oklaed , supportive coach’s wife in training, and Mom to the best three kids on the planet that I don’t deserve!!!
A2: When I am focusing on the negative things going on around me, I tend to become consumed with negativity myself. I have to make a choice, so I am more positive to those around me. #oklaED
I like to lead with compassion, curiosity, and thinking outside of the box. I hope I know where others are coming from and get their viewpoint before decisions. #oklaED
#oklaed A2: I have taught for almost 28 years, so I take my own path. I am willing to try new ideas, take education into a new direction, and be as creative and innovative as I can be.
A2: The mindset of the school is the culture of the school and what they want to accomplish, their values, and dedication. The culture determines if I am willing to fit into the school and succeed as a teacher. If I do not like the culture, I will not teach there. #oklaed
A2 Due to having the mindset that our students possess limitless capacity for growth, success, and achievement, my relationship with others is characterized as the chief advocate on behalf of our students and teachers #oklaed
A2: mindset is everything, it guides the school/classroom/student. Your positivity/negativity will impact those around you and ultimately effect S growth and learning #oklaed
A2 - I teach at the BEST school - it is also the HS that I graduated from. I know what it’s like for people to say, “Oh, you are from West... (in a neg. way)” I teach w/a drive & purpose that kids from my school will be world changers! #oklaed#westisbest
Q3: Given the importance of a positive mindset in a classroom, what happens to a Ss learning when a positive mindset is overshadowed by negative thoughts? #oklaED
A2 - #OklaWE is a student centered, character building, and supportive place to work, so Ts are given the freedom to T as they see fit for their Ss. #OklaEd
A2. I think a common vision of a school is important among staff. faculty, and students. Everyone should be able to answer “why am I here?” with something other than “because I have to be.” #oklaed
A2) My minset is that I work with a caring and dedicated staff who wants what is best for our students and that makes the difference in our decisions and willingness to provide the best we can despite obsticles. #oklaed
A2 cont: First Year teachers need to be taken care of if schools are to keep them there for the long haul. A positive and supportive environment is needed to improve efficacy and growth among everyone. #oklaed
A2. As the leader I am the Thermostat. I have to maintain energy, positivity, focus, and conversations must be around what is best for Students. Mindset is critical!! #oklaed
A2 - I teach at the BEST school - it is also the HS that I graduated from. I know what it’s like for people to say, “Oh, you are from West... (in a neg. way)” I teach w/a drive & purpose that kids from my school will be world changers! #oklaed#westisbest
A2 Its the core and can make or break a school culture. I think having bldng input/ that your voice has been heard is vital. If staff does not have relations, it impacts everything negatively. #oklaED
A2) I have a progressive mindset; I think we should be moving forward, not settling for what worked yesterday~ I look for like minded people who want to work hard whenever we have a position open at #AlexPS#OklaEd
Q3: Given the importance of a positive mindset in a classroom, what happens to a Ss learning when a positive mindset is overshadowed by negative thoughts? #oklaED
Q3: Given the importance of a positive mindset in a classroom, what happens to a Ss learning when a positive mindset is overshadowed by negative thoughts? #oklaED
Q3: Given the importance of a positive mindset in a classroom, what happens to a Ss learning when a positive mindset is overshadowed by negative thoughts? #oklaED
A3: They can't learn. If a student is dealing with unimaginable hurt and pain, their thoughts aren't on the classroom. Even if I share so much positive mindsets, that can't make up for what kids are going through. You hear that Marzano? #oklaed
A3: Negativity can stop growth and learning for students, it doesn't matter where the negativity is coming from - the Ss mindset or the Ts and Admins mindset #oklaed
A3 - learning stops or is thwarted when negativity enters the classroom whether from Ts or Ss. Lrning should be fun, and we need to make the classroom a place everyone wants to be. My Ts do an amazing job of this! #OklaEd#OklaWE
A2) Optimism and collaboration fuel me. I strive to facilitate that type of environment as an A, and I get really pumped when I see staff members go from resistant/hesitant/unsure to confident and driven toward common goals. And then there’s also dancing. #oklaED
#OklaEd A2: Mindset of my school is old and outdated. It pushed me to find ways to reach students to help them want to AND learn how to optimize their Effective Learning.
A2) I'll be learning the mindset of the school this coming year. It will provide the starting point from which to move forward. Great school, great staff, great students. Everyone can do better. No one is perfect. #oklaed
A3: naturally Ss learning will be impacted, but I think it’s important for Ss to see that the struggle is real and we take the opportunity to teach them how to deal with the negative in a positive manner. It’s all in the approach. #oklaed
A3. Negativity can snowball quickly. Next year I want to be more intentional about making it an expectation in my classroom that everyone means what they say. No mean spirited jokes. If you call your friend dumb, I’m taking it to mean you think you’re pal is dumb. #oklaed
Q3: Given the importance of a positive mindset in a classroom, what happens to a Ss learning when a positive mindset is overshadowed by negative thoughts? #oklaED
I bring enthusiasm into whatever I do. I believe anything is possible if we work as a team. I introduce The Energy Bus philosophy to my staff and together, we agree there is no permission for Energy Vampires to get on our bus! #oklaED
A3: Learning no longer takes place when negativity is brought into the classroom. There is enough of it in the world, please do not bring it into the classroom; for some, that is their sanctuary! #oklaed
A3. Negativity stifles learning and creativity. This could also impede a Ss willingness to take risks which is often critical to propel learning forward and deeper. Negativity can impact confidence and success 👎🏼. #oklaed
#oklaed A3: Ts just do enough to get by, and Ss just do enough work to get a passing grade. There is no direction, no reason for why the work should be done, and no direction.
Our self talk impacts our feelings/ decisoions.. this is TRUE for adults and kids. Its a DRIVING force. Focusing on our self talk and using coping skills to change that mindset can bring positivity into your brain & help push thru that tough stuff.
#oklaed#Mindfulness
A3) #oklaed Maslow has told us what happens when the adults expect learning, yet the student's needs hasn't yet been met. We need to take care of the person before we can help the person grow
Q3: Given the importance of a positive mindset in a classroom, what happens to a Ss learning when a positive mindset is overshadowed by negative thoughts? #oklaED
A3) Negativity is like a little yeast in a batch of dough. It quickly gets out of control. You've got to stop negativity before it starts growing. #oklaed
Q3: Given the importance of a positive mindset in a classroom, what happens to a Ss learning when a positive mindset is overshadowed by negative thoughts? #oklaED
A3: FREEDOM!!! When i made my kiddos feel like their reputation didn’t proceed them, they worked for me!!! Every year is a new year! Our kiddos deserve a fresh start and mindset too! REMEMBER that! #oklaed
A4 - the climate at my school is one of dedication and “all in” for students. The Ts work together to make sure our Ss have what they need to be successful academically and socially. #OklaEd#OklaWE
Q3: Given the importance of a positive mindset in a classroom, what happens to a Ss learning when a positive mindset is overshadowed by negative thoughts? #oklaED
A4: I stay in my own little world. But I would say that climate of the classroom is safe. My Ss know mistakes are okay, that we support each other, and we will laugh and sing loudly. #oklaed
A4: The climate in my counseling office and now in my leadership position is honest, forgiving, painful at times. We do hard work. In hard situations. #oklaED
A3: naturally Ss learning will be impacted, but I think it’s important for Ss to see that the struggle is real and we take the opportunity to teach them how to deal with the negative in a positive manner. It’s all in the approach. #oklaed
A3) Learning comes to a halt. Negative thoughts become negative self-talk, which then could lead to poor mental health and negative behavior. A positive environment is vital in preventing and stopping this pattern. #oklaED
A3- it’s easy to forgot that sometimes we are the only positive adults in a S’s life. We mush work hard to help them overcome negative thoughts. They need to know we care. #oklaed
Q3: Given the importance of a positive mindset in a classroom, what happens to a Ss learning when a positive mindset is overshadowed by negative thoughts? #oklaED
A4: I am fortunate enough to work in a school with high caliber people who let me make mistakes and help foster my growth and creativity. I would like to believe that my classroom fosters positivity, risk-taking, and encouragement.#oklaed
A4. Our climate is moving in a positive direction. We all always have room to grow and improve that is what is so FUN about education. Growing Mindset!! When I teach college courses my classroom is Positive, upbeat and energetic! #oklaed
A4: the dept. I work in is focused on doing right by Ss, Ts, & Ps. We problem solve together, put the S first, have a growth mindset, strengths-based. I'm very fortunate to work w/ such great people! #oklaed
A4 Staff support one another and come together to reach our goals. This in turn allows us to focus on bldng strong relations w/ Ss and families. All blndgs have moments but it is how we support each other that makes a positive difference.#oklaed
A4 We have a mix of folks comfortable in “the way we have always done things” & also ready to embrace change. I don’t think that’s binary however, w/ people always solidly fitting in 1 group or the other. Half our principals will be new this year, so that portends change. #OklaED
A4: I taught MS. We shut the door AND the world out. My kids felt like they could be kids. We learned, we painted, we debunked Wikipedia, and we built Central America in Minecraft. Best time of my life!! #oklaed
I ❤️ my staff. They really do have a heart for our kids. I believe they are were they “want to work” and that makes a huge difference. Admin must create a bldg that T’s want to work in. #oklaed
#oklaed A4: People see the glass half full or the glass half empty. If there is a lot of negative talk about a program, Ss pick up on it, and their opinions about it also become negative. If we want Ss to believe in themselves, we have to believe in what we are doing.
A4: I taught MS. We shut the door AND the world out. My kids felt like they could be kids. We learned, we painted, we debunked Wikipedia, and we built Central America in Minecraft. Best time of my life!! #oklaed
A4) I believe my new school is excited for new possibilities. Ps, Ss, and Ts are already visiting with me and showing excitement. I want to move them from good/great to great/awesome. #oklaed#tuttleEDU
A5 - Ss should want to come to school bc being smart is cool, learning is fun, and they know they are loved and accepted just the way they are while still being encouraged to become better each day. #OklaEd#OklaWE
A5- because their teachers know them and are there for them. We also have great community support. On Aug 5, my church is building is a new Gaga ball pit and helping beautify our campus. We have several churches who support us #community#oklaed
That mindset change is a process. Everyone's journey is different but the hope is all will embrace changes in some way. It's hard when you are all in for change and others are not. Remember YOUR why! #oklaed
A5: Because education is a privilege, not a right! Not everyone in the world gets to go to school.; I have seen it with my own eyes. Besides, students my learn something that changes the course of their lives-it happened to me. #oklaed
A5 I always included enough hands on activity and Ss choice that they were excited each day when they walked into my classroom. I scrounged and scrapped for every tool I could get for them. #oklaed
A4 We have tended to be fairly isolated & siloed but are working to change that. A major initiative is underway to change our high school schedule to a block in 2019-20, & that will be huge. I think the climate is very different depending on the level / division #OklaEd
I ❤️ my staff. They really do have a heart for our kids. I believe they are were they “want to work” and that makes a huge difference. Admin must create a bldg that T’s want to work in. #oklaed
A5) Students want to attend school to gain the social skills, relationships, and acceptance that so much of the adult world, or traditional high schools, do not give to everyone unless they fit into a peg pefectly. #oklaed
A5: A student would want to be at a positive place where they feel safe, wanted, and valued. A place where everyday is an exciting learning adventure and they don’t want to miss it! #oklaed
A5. Hopefully because they are enjoying learning, have connected w a caring adult, feel accepted and empowered. Many also come to eat consistently. They need to feel loved and like they can do anything they set their “mind” to (like how i did that? ) 😄 #oklaed
That mindset change is a process. Everyone's journey is different but the hope is all will embrace changes in some way. It's hard when you are all in for change and others are not. Remember YOUR why! #oklaed
Some don’t. We need to provide an environment they want to belong in. We also need to offer ways for them to have #fomo if they aren’t there because of all the coolness that happens. #oklaed
#oklaed A5: Attending school is a way to see friends or have security. However, at the HS level, some Ss question why they have to take these classes for graduation. Connecting the classes to career choices, interests, and talents are necessary to help Ss find their paths.
A4) We have such a dedicated staff, and there are great things happening every day. I feel like we’re on the verge of some really big and positive things, and that makes me so excited about working hard for them and supporting them. #oklaED
My room is painted white. My husband built a huge “fairytale door” in mybreadinf center. It’s clean and warm and welcoming! It’s been on channel 4 news! My principal and staff meet students at the door every morning! I wish I had a pic of my room/: #oklaEd
A6- they are not turned in to truancy court. 😉 they want to come to school, they put others ahead of themselves, which is rare for adults and kids alike. #oklaed
A5 My wife @sfryer’s number 1 goal is “to help students love learning.” I think that is a great goal for all of us. Kids should feel safe & empowered, & ❤️ opportunities they have at school to not only be social but stretch their minds in challenging & engaging ways. #OklaEd
A6 - these Ss have a growth mindset & vision 4 the future - their future, their community’s future, & our country’s future. These r Ss who make a positive difference in their sphere of influence. It’s not saying other Ss cannot have a positive influence, but these Ss do. #OklaEd
A6 Those Ss are receptive to instruction and able to make connections to content and Ts. The key is getting Ss to that point despite the chaos they may live in every day. #oklaed

A6. They are eager to learn. Believe they can be anything that desire. Positive. Kind. Tolerant. And JOYful. Contribute to the classroom and school. They are exactly what we should be working to develop and cultivate. #oklaed
Nancy Williams - Idabel Primary South Reading Specialist joining late
A5 I hope they come to school to better their future. Yes, we are a place of safety; but we are the place to get ready for the future. #oklaed
A6: Those students are the ones who take initiative. They see education as a tool of enrichment and not one of great burden. I learn from them just as much as I hope they learn from me. #oklaed
A6) They have a growth mindset. Not all Ss are there. They need Ts and As to build connections and be their support, hope, and motivator until they get there. #oklaed
#oklaed A6: They don't give up, they are willing to make a difference, they motivate themselves, and they have a vision and do everything they can to achieve it.
A5) Because school can be a safe place where they are shown love and support. Sadly, it’s also where many S’s get their only meals and maybe even clothes. Learning and achieving goals (social and academic) also gives them power, and they know that. #oklaED
A2: My mindset especially concerning the school is a reflection of the climate. I have to be mindful and present in a positive way if that’s the impact I want to have. #oklaed
Excuse me, but is it possible you post the questions for the rest of the world? It would make these othereise radom tweets far more relevant since they are trending on my tl. #oklaED
A7: This can start with our own honesty and vulnerability. Positivity is not without pain or struggle. It is finding the hope in the struggle. Empathy has its place in all of this. Thru that we find the resilience that leads to hope. #oklaED
A7: Promote positivity! Smile and them and greet them. Ask them how their day is going and if they need help with anything. Listen to what they have to say. Say and/or do something kind for them. It goes a long way! #oklaed
Excuse me, but is it possible you post the questions for the rest of the world? It would make these otherwise radom tweets far more relevant since they are trending on my tl. #oklaED
A6 My students who are motivated have realized they can learn and be successful. It is my role to encourage and let them know I believe they can do it. #oklaed
A7. Constantly remind ourselves and each other that kids are kids and adults are adults.
No 15 year old should be able to bully a grown person into not believing in them. #oklaed
A7) I'm reading #Culturize right now by @casas_jimmy It is full of culture builders to help create an environment where Every student, every day, knows they are valued and that staff will do whatever it takes to help them succeed. #oklaed#goodstuff
A7. Take time to clear your mind from time to time. Meditation is great. We have to be purposeful about detaching from negativity and not letting it latch on. Play happy music, read uplifting books. Listen to podcasts. Positivity and Happiness are a Choice - choose it!! #oklaed
A7 - Watch our convos about our school & our kids - “what if someone said this about my child?”, don’t feed the negativity, change the narrative in the teacher’s lounge...I could go on and on and on. At the end of the day, would I want to be around me? #oklaed
A7 - We must remember no one likes to work/be around/hang with downers - also, we have so much to be positive and joyful abt in #OklaEd. We must model positivity, support, celebration, kindness, & forgiveness for others. That makes for an awesome climate & place of work. #OklaWE
A7) I can recognize the good that happens on a daily basis with my staff. Instead of looking at a situation with the thought that it was done in a negative way, I can look to understand why and then come to an understanding with my colleagues. #oklaed
Be willing to take an intentional risk, be willing to fail, be willing to let the world see it. Let this become normal. Be willing to have the most amazing success. #oklaed
A7 Self care!!!! We have to do something everyday to make sure our cup NEVER empties. It also helps to keep our self talk in check and creates positivity in ourself. #oklaed#Mindfulness
A7: Positive thoughts and words go a long way, encouragement of others not only boost others but also yourself. Connecting, sharing, learning, and growing set you up for a growth mindset #oklaed
A6) They are excited about the journey when presented with challenges, not hopeless or easily satisfied by the quickest potential solution. They. Are. Happy. And unstoppable. 😁 #oklaED
A7 Self care!!!! We have to do something everyday to make sure our cup NEVER empties. It also helps to keep our self talk in check and creates positivity in ourself. #oklaed#Mindfulness
A7: Put what’s best for kids first and everything else takes care of itself. Doesn’t mean everyone agrees 100% of time but kids are put in position to be successful. Sometimes the adults act worse than the kids! #oklaed
A7 - We must remember no one likes to work/be around/hang with downers - also, we have so much to be positive and joyful abt in #OklaEd. We must model positivity, support, celebration, kindness, & forgiveness for others. That makes for an awesome climate & place of work. #OklaWE
A3) Realism is key here. There’s generally reasons for those negative thoughts and if you are real with your Ss in coming up with ways to overcome, they will see that too and that builds relationships. #oklaed
A7 - Watch our convos about our school & our kids - “what if someone said this about my child?”, don’t feed the negativity, change the narrative in the teacher’s lounge...I could go on and on and on. At the end of the day, would I want to be around me? #oklaed
A7. It is also really difficult to become negative or stay there when you practice being grateful and work diligently at being kind. Be intentional about boosting and lifting others up! Hard to be negative if you find 3 positives to state. Try it!! :) #oklaed
Be willing to take an intentional risk, be willing to fail, be willing to let the world see it. Let this become normal. Be willing to have the most amazing success. #oklaed
Look for the good! I know it sounds cliche’ but I think too many people look for what is wrong instead of focusing on what is right! I do believe most people are as happy as they let themselves be. Oh, and plenty of coffee! 😉 #oklaED
A7 A huge key for me is I have things in my office to remind me of happy things, special moments, etc
.. gives me a boost on some low days to help me stay positive. Ex. monkey is a reminder to laugh.. It's okay to laugh! #oklaed
A4) I think our school climate is in transition as we have a new Superintendent. I try to keep the climate in my room good but the Ss see what goes on daily. #oklaed
A3: We can’t overestimate a positive environment, but it’s also important to understand WHY kids are having negative thoughts. Life isn’t perfect and I want them to know they are entitled to a bad day, I want them to feel heard and accepted no matter what. #oklaed
A8 I think we should be discussing self care. What you feel inside is what you portray to others. It all starts within! I woukd love to see staff taking self care assessments and creating plans of care. #oklaed
A5) Some of them get their best meals and adult guidance from school. Some are there because of Ps and others really understand they need education. #oklaed
A:7 We have decided our “theme” this year is BETTER TOGETHER. We are all in it together, the walkout brought us closer, and all the kids are ALL of our babies. That’s our first step, to come together. Lift up one another, not tear each other apart. #oklaED
A8) I believe we do discuss mindset in our staff meetings. However, there could be a more deliberate method to how mindset is discussed for both staff and students. Providing an environment that fosters growth and positivity helps carry the mindset. #oklaed
A8: Absolutely! Faculty and staff may not realize which mindset they have if we so not share the difference in a growth mindset and a fixed mindset #oklaed
A6) They are focused and ready to do what they need. It also comes from having a good support system which is why we as Ts have to be that for these Ss that don’t have that. #oklaed
A8) I think we have to@talk about it but not just once at a staff meeting, it needs to be an ongoing discussion that includes motivation, positivity, and maybe some food. #oklaED
A8 Yes, absolutely we should talk about mindsets at school. Mindsets help define and shape culture, and culture generally trumps 🎰🎲everything (no pun intended there...) #OklaEd
A8) Absolutely. There should never be an us/them mentality in a bldg. Talk about mindsets and how to grow a positive culture. Don't be afraid of tough conversations or of pushing against the status quo. #oklaed
Q2 - having a school where all of us are in a similar mindset of putting kids first it helps to really get down to it when you can solve problems by approaching it from 'is this best for kids?' #oklaed
A8) I think we have to@talk about it but not just once at a staff meeting, it needs to be an ongoing discussion that includes motivation, positivity, and maybe some food. #oklaED
#oklaed A8: Yes, because positive or negative mindsets shape the school's culture, which shapes the opinions of the people in the town, county, state, and nation.
I agree 100% with this. We are focusing on wellness & resiliency in multiple contexts at our school, including #DigCit. As a technology director with more to do than we have hours & hands, these topics are paramount for health & sanity #OklaEd
A9: I agree, social-emotional has to be the base for growth and learning in the classroom. W/o a climate of safety and care the curriculum isn't going to happen #oklaed
A7) Accept that there will be hurdles. Appreciate the journey. Recognize growth (whether it’s in inches or miles). Be the person you’d want to be paired with. And possess a magical playlist full of dance songs and upbeat music. #oklaED
Q3 - kids get told what they can't do a lot. some of the kids i teach don't have people that believe in them. when something is hard they go negative and some just shut down. it's hard to build them back up into a learning frame of mind when that happens. #oklaed
Its also about being safe space to be vulnerable when it comes to discussing self care and growth mindset. Just b/c it is an easy discussion for you does not mean it is for everyone. So we really have to be mindful when having these discussions, but I think worth it.
#oklaed
A8 I think teachers and admin have to feel better about this next year because of the raises and increase in school funding. When you are better off financially, the world looks a little brighter. #oklaed
A4: I love what I do. I love my kids. Love is the foundation of everything I do in my classroom. Love = acceptance. When you are accepted that = Innovation/Life long learning. We fail and take risks and create because I love them 🤷🏼♀️ #oklaed
A9 - Social, emotional learning is part of helping students function in society - it should be at the center of learning. It is what helps them persevere, engage, communicate effectively, and survive. #oklaed
Absolutely... mindsets. It is already in my kickoff keynote address. Mindset... focus... what we believe is a short walk from what we speak... watch our words! Every Child STILL Needs a Champion. #oklaed
A9) If you cannot connect with the students on a social-emotional level then how can any learning take place? It isn't until we, as educators, open up and be honest with our students that they will trust us enough to accept what we are teaching. #oklaed
A9 It seems important to us when we talk about early childhood Ss, but for some reason as they mature we ignore that vital aspect of Ss and learning. It may not be a standard, but it impacts all learning #oklaed
A9: Students emotions should be valued. Remember Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs? Students need to learn and value each other; this should be a priority in the classroom, and not just content and skill, or test-scores! #oklaed
A9 I can NOT scream LOUD enough that SEL is not extra. It should be scheduled in the day b/c it matters, it's core, it's all about making time to build a relationship w/students. CONNECTION =Learner #oklaed
A5) school (should) offer opportunities for all students to succeed. Students are fed, find people who care about them and their future. An education is a chance for students to discover the things they care about. #oklaED
#oklaed A9: It's not just teaching about the content, which is how I was taught in college years ago. It's about the Ss who are individuals with different paths, needs, and problems. Treat them like individuals and guide them down a path to success.
The good news, among hopefully many things, is that you have a fantastic middle school team to join! I love collaborating with those teachers. So many supportive & growth mindset oriented educators! #OklaEd#CasadyLearns
Q10: Write about this statement:
All Ss are motivated, but unfortunately, some are dominated by “avoidance motivation” as a way of protecting themselves from situations that they believe will lead to failure and humiliation and/or emotional and physical exhaustion.
#oklaED
A9) SEL should be interwoven into our classroom lessons and daily experiences. Ss are fully developed cognitively and need help processing through many situations. Even the most advanced Ss can still struggle with feelings of self worth or self confidence. #oklaed
A8 So that's the question. I think you should strart off the year on a positive note. Assume the other teachers are in a positive mindset also. If later you detect a problem, address it then. #oklaed
A6: That’s what we want every student to feel, I think it’s intrinsic to our/their success. Once they “feel” that - you have them and it makes teaching so much easier. #oklaed
Q5: #WATeachLead
The bottom line is we are hired for these skills, promoted for these skills and fired for a lack of these skills. They are not soft or extra- they are as core to student success as any core subject.
A10: Kids can't learn when the hurt is too big. We can't force them to fit our standards, to fit our rules and our system, when everything in them doesn't trust the system that hurt them. #oklaed
A10: this statement breaks my heart. Classrooms should be an environment where Ss don't stress about failing b/c they know it is an opportunity to grow. They should feel protected and cared for #oklaed
It is a MUST! We aren’t there quite yet. I have been trying to get Reagan to the place where I can truly say we are a Trauma Informed School. It is a slow methodical process. It has changed how my staff looks at behaviors. This year will be a new level of awareness. #oklaED
A10: Kids can't learn when the hurt is too big. We can't force them to fit our standards, to fit our rules and our system, when everything in them doesn't trust the system that hurt them. #oklaed
A10: We must make that Ss feel a level of comfort in our classroom, school, so that they are able to join the conversation in some way...voice/choice #oklaed
A9) we cant teach students who dont feel safe, valued, fed, clothed. Teachers and schools provide so much more than just teaching. Social emotional goes hand in hand with education . #oklaED
A10. Yes! Yes! Yes! I hate when people say “kids don’t care”. Of course they care! The trick is to figure out what they care about.
It doesn’t always work and I’m not the master of it by any means, but when it does work, it’s SO worth the time and energy invested! #oklaed
A10: Teachers have to set an example of providing positive reinforcement. When students know they will not be scolded for their mistakes, they will be more willing to take risks. #oklaed
Our “system” removes the willingness of students to take risks. Compare the risks that kinders take to the ones high school students take. I would argue that you would see more risk taking with the kinders. #oklaed
Q10: Write about this statement:
All Ss are motivated, but unfortunately, some are dominated by “avoidance motivation” as a way of protecting themselves from situations that they believe will lead to failure and humiliation and/or emotional and physical exhaustion.

A9 One of the first things we learned in Ed 101 was when the students emotional and physical needs are not met, little learning takes place. This needs to be embedded in all instruction- core and extra-curricular. This is basic learning theory. #oklaed
