It was so bad we have basically outlawed cell phones. Now they act like they used to, trying to hide it. In 3 weeks I’ve seen slightly better attention but they are finding games on their chrome books. Unless an activity requires it, they are closed. #ProDriven

That was one of the reasons we went that way. I should say there is teacher discretion. I just had my anatomy students take pictures of slides through a microscope. #ProDriven
A1: I will say I have even seen this with adult learners. In PD’s we often say, “Be professional” or “Be present.” But we see the social medias, box scores, and emails open. I just say, “Evidently what I am providing is not cognitively engaging them. That’s on me. #ProDriven
A1. Not just the students, I know the difference and I still find myself tuning out. I do not want to teach a boring lesson, they definitely don't want to sit through one. #ProDriven

They are open about it but I think many mistake anxiety with the results of procrastination. When Ss tell me about it, most have anxiety because they put things off until the last minute. Others are genuine about their anxiety because they can’t hide it. #ProDriven

I like to think of it as giving ourself grace. It is normal for our minds to race but we don't need to judge ourselves. We just need to try to stay present to the moment. #ProDriven

I sometimes use tapping (discretely under the table lol) in these types of situations. It seems to help me stay present. Depending on the meeting, having an agenda & a timekeeper also helps. #ProDriven

A1) Ss are used 2 having everything answered, solved immediately and they need opportunities that they can't wait 2 sink their teeth into. This is not feasible everyday so I have 2 make an effort to keep them moving & involved. Teaching is > content but life skills #ProDriven
One hurdle was other educators seeing the validity in mindfulness practices. However, after leading a PD session at the beginning of the school year where I shared history and neuroscience behind mindfulness I have been invited into several rooms. Yeah! #ProDriven

I also felt this was important for me when I was in the classroom. But I was careful about over sharing, especially if my emotions stemmed from news events that may not be appropriate for that age. #ProDriven
