This twitter chat stands for "Wins And Losses Ed Chat" and will be a chat where students reflect on the previous week to celebrate victories and reflect on losses to turn them into victories.

Hello! I’m Amanda. I’m from Canada, live in Illinois, and am an ESOL coordinator for the Saint Louis Public Schools District. Tagging two colleagues @misscase17@RobGreenhaw#waledchat
Hey everyone! Adam from Cincy glad to be joining #waledchat tonight. My daughter just requested I sing happy bday to all the dolls for her dollhouse as her bed time song. 😯
A1 - This week I was part of a great meeting with some edtech people in Cali...AND my book proposal was accepted by a publisher...really good week. :)
#waledchat
A1: Getting admin support for having all 7th grade team members come together to discuss the best ways to support students with special needs! #WaledChat
A1 My big win at work is definitely my relationships with my babies. I always enjoy building them, this year I've noticed just how important and world changing they can be. #waledchat
A1: With mid year testing upon us, my biggest win was seeing how excited my Ss got with incentives I had to offer them for growth and goals being made/met. #waledchat
A1: The biggest win of the past month was actually two things... I took the leadership praxis a couple weeks back and more recently helped students to create portfolio websites.
#waledchat
A1: Out of classroom: Getting the podcast recorded so all of the audio functions the way it is supposed to.
In the classroom: Getting our Ss schedules set up and ready to go so we can meet their needs as learners as we hit the road running in semester 2. #waledchat
A1. Biggest win for the past month was working with 2 different families to get their respective kids services and placements that were beneficial. Matching student & teacher is always a win. #Waledchat
A1: I met with some students who have had a hard time focusing lately, so we discussed a success plan where I record short mini-lessons and they can rewatch them as needed. #WaledChat
A1: My biggest win has been the continual development of our #pbis program at Maple. We introduced Golden Spoons this month in the cafeteria, worked to revise winter lessons, and continuing to look at ways we can engage Ss. #waledchat
A1: my biggest win from the past month is I’m back to writing blog posts again! Before January, my last post was early July. It has been great that I found some@inspiration and tome to post. #waledchat
A1 Biggest win of the month...partnering with @nokidhungry and @NAESP to share innovative school breakfast strategies with teachers and principals! #waledchat
A1: I have been working a lot with @MissTipsord. I saw one of her students today who gave me a big hug and asked me when we were going to work on @Sphero again. Plus, she is totally rocking with using @Seesaw with her special ed classes. Totally proud. #waledchat
A1: I gently had to correct a Ss the other day for their behavior. Normally they are well behaved. After I talked with them, I reflected on what I could do better and took ownership. The Ss apologized, I changed my next lesson to challenge them more. Win-win #waledchat
A1: START WITH WHY Great moment this week...Connected w/ a 3rd grader...Refused to do a project, T thought he was being defiant, I asked him why, he said it was b/c last time projects got hung in the hallway, he got teased...He agreed to do it, if wasn't hung up😎 #waledchat
Biggest win in the past month: getting my writing going again, and not backing down from requesting funds for PD, even if the district says, "there is no money." #waledchat
A1: My students are loving our whole class read. We are reading Between Shades of Gray. This is my 4th year reading this book with my class. You never know how a group of kids will respond to a book. Every year is different. #waledchat
A1: Biggest win was down time with my family and our German “family” who came to visit for two weeks. It rejuvenated my soul despite my being overwhelmed with work! #waledchat
#waledchat A1 My biggest win was approving the final edits for my book (for the 2nd time). This edit should be final! FINALLY! Beimg a math teacher and having to "grammarize" a book #NotFun "The Story of Always Believe" should be out in March.
A1. I started blogging for the 1st time- HUGE leap for me- I also wanted my kids to be apart of my journey so I let them critique & give me feedback❤️#waledchat
A1: My biggest win this past month is implementing checklists. Three years ago, we became the pilot school for #BlendedLearning. We have used rotations, playlists & most recently began using checklists so that we can better ensure that personalized learning takes place.#waledchat
A2: Internal celebration - it's still nerve-wracking when I have new students starting, so I was just happy that they were excited to be here! #waledchat
A2 Every time another school decides to do Breakfast in the Classroom...it’s a win! Decreased discipline, more time on task, and most importantly Ss are being fed! @NoKidHungryNC#waledchat
A2: So far I haven't celebrated... Still have to wait until Feb. 9th to know the score of the exam and hoping for a return session for the portfolio in a couple weeks.
Headed to #fetc#fetc19 soon, so maybe that counts as a celebration?
#waledchat
A1 & A2: I've done much better balancing my time this month, I think! My celebration has been spending time with family & immersing myself at work. #waledchat
A2: Sharing, collaborating, and seeing it in action each day. There is nothing more exciting than seeing a group of Kindergarten students getting to eat lunch on a stage. #waledchat
A1- My biggest win this month was that all of my ss increased their reading scores from winter to fall. Now, I know that my ss are more than just a standard test score, but it was awesome to see them stand a little taller when I told them how great they did! #waledchat
A2 - We have created “shout out” spots and a board where students can recognize each other, staff or friends who’ve made a positive difference. Hopefully starting a tradition. #waledchat
#waledchat NEVER made an A in English. On my papers I usually made an A in content and a B in grammar (if only grammar books were written in East Texas....) NEVER GIVE UP because I am about to be a published author. People who have read the book have been inspired.
A2: Out: Posting the podcast for the world to hear and hoping it is received well.
In: This was pretty low key. Talked to the Ss and got their thoughts on their new placements and told them I'd help them transition in any way I could. #waledchat
A2. The best way to celebrate a win is with a handshake, high five, fist bump and follow up. A win feels good in that moment but is there follow through? Is it sustainable? Did it matter? #waledchat
A2: Although it was a win, I found myself still frustrated because staff didn’t respect my initiative to improve student behaviors and their ability to teach more and correct behaviors less #WaledChat
A2 I celebrate every morning by walking in my door with a smile, greeting them with laughter, discussion, and love and getting the same back from them. #lucky#lovemyjob#waledchat
A2: I celebrated the win of using checklists by rewarding my kids. When they complete their checklist, they get to have #FunFriday. I still pull 6 small groups 2x a day, but this gives the kids even more choice & direction in what they want to do, learn about & create. #waledchat
A3: Lots of students have not been turning in work, including major projects. I've provided more time and support, but they are struggling to understand the importance of a deadline. #waledchat
My wife, @LBStrunk had a similar win with her first graders. Always great to hear when these Ss are able to have growth opportunities and have them celebrated! #waledchat
A3: Not getting all of my Ss to get their term long project completed on time. Tried to provide as much time in class and extra time during morning/lunch for Ss to get them complete, but some just didn't meet the deadline. #waledchat
#WaledChat A2 As most Houstonians do to celebrate.... DINING OUT eating cajun seafood @Pappadeaux#lesbonstempsrouler I have shared some stories with my Ss. They love it when I read to them.
A2: READING books for pleasure since I’d had to abstain to focus until I was done writing mine. I read 3 and a half novels over the weekend. Bliss! #waledchat
A1 - A former student and incredible athlete passed away. It’s a reminder of how important it is to really try to make a positive change in our world. #waledchat
A3: struggling with a couple of tough Ss and getting them to see the importance of why they are in school and the importance they play in the success of our team #waledchat
#waledchat A3 I HATE MISSING SCHOOL! On MLK day I got severe vertigo. Tried to go to school today but didn't make it. GREAT COWORKERS kept me safe. Went to the doctor and I am feeling better. #VertigoIsNoFun#MissMyStudents
A3: I’m teaching my favorite unit of the year (Constitution/Government) and these Ss are struggling with branches and powers. We did an #ironchef and recorded presentations, turned branches into superheroes, and good old fashioned notes. #waledchat
A3: Having a student that has been a bit harder for me to reach. I feel like we have great rapport but some days can be difficult to keep the student motivated. #waledchat
I must admit, I get a bit bored in my intervention block... I think it’s partly the time of day (mid morning)... I think I need to be a bit more active while the students do computer work... #waledchat
A3: A loss would be to not have enough time with all my students to go over a data analysis individually. I was able to see about 1/3 of them. #waledchat
A3: It is always interesting to see Ts reactions when pushed out of their comfort zones. Most react well, some not so well. I would love to see how these Ts related to Ss reacting as they did. #waledchat.
A3 A student I’ve been triaging with has shown no improvement and continues to struggle. We are farther from compliance and at times almost an insurmountable distance from partnership. So frustrating but we keep working #waledchat
A3: My loss this month is personal & professional. My health has really become an issue & forced me to miss 2 days last week. I DO NOT LIKE TO MISS SCHOOL. People say it’s ok. Rest. Take your medicine...but the kids are my good medicine. I’d much rather be with them.♥️ #waledchat
A3- We have had so many snow days/late starts that I am very behind and feeling stressed. I’m afraidthst my nervousness has rubbed off on my ss. #waledchat
My loss is probably coming Tuesday. Meeting with my dd’s teacher about sped testing we requested and I have some concerns with instructional practices. I get to be THAT parent #waledchat
A4: I need to do a better job at teaching the expectation of turning in an assignment when it is due. Are there exceptions? Yes. But turning in a classwork assignment from November at the end of January is typically not one of them. #waledchat
A3: Sickness has run rampant in my household (wife and kids—everyone but me), we’re feeling a little bogged down, and we’re over the snow and ice. #WaledChat
A3. I suffered a loss of pay, as I was getting snow at home but my school was only getting rain. So I asked to leave and was told, I would lose pay. #waledchat
A3. The only loss I can think of this month is my kiddos being sick- had a kiddo out for 2 days now- 2 others had tissues right beside them😢. Want everyone #healthy#waledchat
A4: I'm hoping to start cutting back on some of the projects I'm connected to in order to invest fully in others and always be present in the moment with friends and family.
#waledchat
A4: I will enjoy every second I get with Ss the rest of the month. Tomorrow I should get to do #BreakoutEDU with them, if we don't have another delay. Darn ice, snow, and freezing cold. Ugh! #waledchat
A4: I am hoping after the February benchmark to be able to go over the data with each one of them and target areas we need to improve before the state test. #waledchat
A4: Set goals with Ss who did not turn their work in so we can be better about using time more valuably. Then, being diligent about checking back with these students. #waledchat
Biggest win this past week was playing SET with my students & seeing them nurture and help each other see the patterns. The support they showed each other is what I've been cultivating all year. It was playfully competitive, safe for mistakes, and celebratory for all. #waledchat
A4: I will find any way I can to make sure Ss understand the content. I really hate lecturing and telling information, but thats what I had to do. Whatever. It. Takes. #waledchat
A2: My family and I celebrated the win by spending the weekend together. It may be the last one in a while, so we savored that time together! #waledchat
A4: Lack of sunshine causes the January blahs! Looking for ways to pump up #PhenomenalFebruary! I have some ideas in mind to bring the sunshine! #waledchat
A1 My biggest win was having 26 of my past Ss (now high schoolers) come out on a Friday night to support & practice with my current 8th grade mock trial teams. I've been trying to build community across grade levels. I never dreamed I could build it across buildings! #waledchat
A4: hoping to see growth in their testing so they can take part in the celebrations. Looking to connect at various points throughout the days and weeks to come to show them that I’m there for them and letting them know they matter. #waledchat
A4) Doubling down on communication. Sorry if you think I am "pestering" but we are all on the same side trying to do what is best for Ss, and that student can't afford us waiting any longer to take action. #waledchat
Another loss: WiFi was down. My classes are tech heavy. In walks principa, instructional coach and the superintendent for an unannounced observation. I had to toss out my lesson and scramble #waledchat
A4: I have the best PLN and they have been really helped me to keep my sanity and focus on what I can control and not what's out of my control. Thanks @MakeThemMastrIt and @MarisaEThompson#waledchat
A4: It’s been a REAL STRUGGLE for me not to run (even walk far) or workout, but I’m really trying to listen to the doctor‘s orders so I can be healthier, be better, and, ultimately, be my best for myself and for kids. #waledchat
First of all - LOVE Stewart! OMG!
Secondly, I was just more aware of the amount of time I was spending in each of my four #BalanceLAP quadrants. I'm trying to make sure I take care of myself & enjoy my family. I'm a workaholic, so that's HUGE steps for me. #waledchat
A5: I'm going to be spending time with my in-laws Friday night and flying to Orlando Saturday for #FETC#FETC19
The plan is to rest Saturday before my series of 5 workshops starts with 2 on Sunday!
#waledchat
A5: I got a meat smoker for Christmas and @LBStrunk has her friends coming to visit for the weekend. I'm making some applewood smoked pulled pork for dinner when they are here! #waledchat
A4. It’s all about having the mindset that all people have motivators (not candy or food) and we just have to tap into this one kids motivators. We have to show the family what works. #waledchat
My biggest win was FINALLY putting my writing out in the universe by creating a blog. It's in the beginning stages but I am proud & looking forward to writing more. #waledchathttps://t.co/3HJ9Gzpxow
A5: I have a Winter Series race on Saturday, gym time etc. Sunday will be my rest day....reading, reading maybe sketch out some podcast episode ideas. #waledchat.
A5: The kids have their Pinewood Derby on Saturday, along with the oldest's basketball game. Super excited to take these events in with my family. #waledchat
Biggest loss? Being reminded that our community (as all do, I suspect) has growth to make in terms of taking disagreements or misunderstandings face-to-face and heart-to-heart. #waledchat
A5: Between finalizing grades and looking for a new place to live, I'm not getting a lot of extra relaxation time, but I will enjoy 2 mornings of sleeping past 5:00 AM! #waledchat
A5: Going for a run! Gotta have balance in all things. Running helps me stay calm and balanced. This week has been nuts, so it will be my first run all week! #waledchat
A5: Looking to shut off from work, enjoying the @NAIASDetroit and Snowfest in Frankenmuth with the family. And my daughter turns 1 tomorrow! Lots to do and enjoy!! #waledchat
A4: Going to adjust the nighttime routine and see if quieting down a bit earlier will make things better for my son. Earlier nights, with more quiet and relaxation, is a definite win! #waledchat
A5: I've got a major case of #FETC19 FOMO. While I WISH I was hopping on a plane to connect with some of you f2f, I'll be at basketball games, loving on babies in the church nursey, doing a GHO, & hopefully doing the next #DBCBookBlogs post! #waledchat
A4: The primary thing that I have done is spent the snow days home researching strategies for Ts. A positive that has resulted is that Ts have been appreciative of me not overwhelming them when we have crazy schedules and they are scrambling to get back on track. #waledchat
One loss that I am still losing is reaching one S who has difficulties reading. He knows he struggles, refuses my help & chooses not to work. I am trying but it is a fight. 😥 #waledchat
