Not sure I’m a fan of the term “Personalized Learning”. We have way too many “Eduspeak” buzzwords...why not focus on “Student Centered Learning” instead? #UCPSChat #TeamUCPS

    Let's take a look at this question. #EmpowerED #UCPSChat
  • HayesNTES Sep 11 @ 7:39 PM EDT
#UCPSChat Q1: Personalized learning for me is all about choice. Choice on the input (what and how to learn) as well as output (how to show it.)
  • RimmerEdTech Sep 11 @ 7:39 PM EDT
I agree. Its more about the actions then what we call it. I think the same with PBL, STEM, etc too. #UCPSChat #EmpowerED
    In reply to @AGHoulihan
  • kimbernier8 Sep 11 @ 7:39 PM EDT
A1: same standard for each student but different methods depending on everyone’s needs. Plus, Collaborative work and flexible seating. Oh, and student driven instruction! I love when students teach me! #UCPSChat
    In reply to @ucpschat
  • Mr_C_Lee Sep 11 @ 7:39 PM EDT
Knowing the learners in the room and tailoring the learning experience to their needs/preferences with their help. Genius Hour is great for this too and the children love it! Lots of student leadership opportunities throughout the whole @IndianTrailES community too. #UCPSChat

    In reply to @Mr_C_Lee, @IndianTrailES
  • mrs_khorne Sep 11 @ 7:41 PM EDT
A2: thinking that it’s hands off for the teachers so students can learn for themselves. I think it’s also important to help guide students if they are having any trouble but also giving them time to struggle. #UCPSChat
    In reply to @ucpschat
  • RimmerEdTech Sep 11 @ 7:41 PM EDT
A2 #ucpschat That every student should be doing something different.
  • AGHoulihan Sep 11 @ 7:41 PM EDT
A2: 1 misconception is that Ss should accelerate at their own pace via tech w/out some form of T guidance...Ts play the most imp. role when it comes to Ss success! #UCPSChat #TeamUCPS

A2: @UCPSChat Personalized learning does not mean everything has to be digital; It means that students take ownership of their learning and the adults in the building empower them to do so. Facilitate knowledge. #EmpowerED #UCPSchat
  • PollyGlotPress Sep 11 @ 7:42 PM EDT
A2 #UCPSChat One misconception is that for 25 students, there would be 25 lesson plans and 25 different assessments, goals and/or rubrics
  • katie_rochefort Sep 11 @ 7:43 PM EDT
A2: Misconception that personalized learning just means conferencing w a S or helping them when they have a question. OR, providing multiple learning pathways for all Ss, thinking it is meeting the needs of every student. #UCPSChat
    In reply to @ucpschat
  • JenAFore Sep 11 @ 7:43 PM EDT
A1 misconception that all the work is put in students hands. Teachers must have a deep understanding of the intended outcome... they have a part in the work by designing instruction to accomplish that outcome. Once this is done, work shifts to Ss while T facilities #UCPSChat
  • mrs_kmontgomery Sep 11 @ 7:43 PM EDT

  • JenAFore Sep 11 @ 7:51 PM EDT
A3 Knowing your students, knowing your content and how to connect the two is powerful. Empowering them to learn, question, learn, struggle, succeed, mess up (fail forward), wonder....THAT is the kind of learner and global citizen we want! 👊🏼#UCPSchat
