Hey there - Elisa from FL - where it’s already 200 degrees and very summer like. I am very “excited” (if one can be about such a thing) about this important topic. #ATChat
A1: I know there is a list of approved apps somewhere, and everything else is supposed to be approved. However, we have a lot of apps from before policies. #ATchat
A1: product must be COPPA, FERPA, and in many cases HIPPA compliant in order to use. have a district software and hardware approval process and no chrome extensions unless whitelisted #ATChat#welikeourpolicieshere
Q1: this probably sounds terrible, but I really do not know; our devices are managed by our IT department. There are however, much more strict policies for professional communications with Ss using tech (we have to submit a form approving communicatition methods #ATchat
I NEED YOUR HELP! I am preparing for an upcoming session on Building AT Capacity. Leave a @flipgrid video and tell us about your team: https://t.co/iyBVpoGPG8#ATchat
Oh boy I can see how this will be quite confusing and cause difficulties with teachers who are already very apprehensive about using technology in my district.#atchat
everything is “disallowed” except the core Google ones that are auto installed on our image within Chrome-I added a lot of AT related ones - @DonJohnstonInc for one-quite a few, I have in google sheet which is shared with GoogleAdmin and they get notified when I add more. #atchat

A2: I have been speaking with schools lately about the idea that "free isn't free" We have been digging through privacy policies and making team decisions #ATchat
Q2: we simply complete a Googl Form requesting the app be "pushed" to the device(s) and then it goes up the chain of command until you get the "ok" and it arrives on the device(s).😛 #ATchat
One takeaway for me is the risk teachers take with non-compliant tools. It makes me realize I need to recommend tools that are compliant and need to practice due diligence in ensuring tools are. #ATchat

Unfortunately CT doesn't have AT Teams. I like the team approach, but how much of a delay does it add to the process of getting AT in the hands of the person that needs it? #ATChat
#atchat Yes,some companies make it easy to find policies. One thing that is easy 2 find is who has signed Student PRivacy Pledge https://t.co/NIWsb34pFj
Great point. It could add some time to the process but it is so important. All educators working with providing tools to Ss need to make this a priority #ATchat
I agree. That is why we need more "Accessible Design Coaches" (Chris Bugaj) to help facilitate those important conversations about safety and appropriate use.#ATchat
We take a lot of time on this subject. For example we don’t collect every keystroke. Why? Well kids could be typing a college app or a teach could be writing an IEP. So know if your AT is collecting and what it is doing. #atchat
Want to be part of an upcoming Inclusive Tech 4 All podcast episode? Leave a recording: https://t.co/YixUgDROAR Share your summer PD plans. How will you continue to learn/grow? #ATchat
#atchat Yes, this is how it started for me. I had a district consult that required me me to adhere to their compliance template. And products that I was recommending were not on it, so I needed to research
Where to begin? I signed up for a free reading app and registered my kids under my personal information. Well, 1 book ended with a drunk bunny passed out next to a beer bottle. Then the junk mail I got was unbelievable. That is when I became aware of the magic #13.Ex-1 #ATchat
You have no idea. I had to call the parents and explain what happened. But great teachable moment for me and the kids. They got to see that I make mistakes too. #ATchat
A4 - we have to have things approved and all our iOS devices are managed, so unapproved apps get swept off on an ongoing basis through jamf. also let’s me remote install which is a blessing. #ATchat
A4 continued — our approval is submission via google form - and just for sake of tonight’s topic, IF your organization signs a BAA then google and microsoft products meet both FERPA AND…HIPPA compliance. HUGE for those of us who work under a medical license #OT#ATChat
Where do I get the transcripts for the chats? I try to take notes then miss important information. I know I wrote it down somewhere, but I can't find it. #ATchat

YES! I have learned A LOT about HIPPA and FERPA and COPPA and… healthcare this year. All before a major incident, and with the help of IT and our school board attorney. #proactive#lucky#alphabetsoup
We have practically the same infrastructure in place; it takes alot of the "technicalities" off my plate, so I can foccus on instructing with the use of a product instead #ATchat
A5: some AAC apps have data collection in them. Student and team need to know/agree how to turn it off, why or when it should be on or off, and who gets to look at that, if anyone. Lots of ethical concerns #ATchat
Join #ATchat for not 1 but 2 Summer Book Chats! For July, The New Assistive Tech by @attipscast For Aug. Dive into UDL by @eyeonaxs & @KendraFGrant 1 Q per week>> 4 Qs each book. Join us!
A4 Creating a balance is the first step. We (the district) needs to be proactive and use people who have the knowledge and skills to create that balance. #ATchat
pencil me in for 9/12- our back to school night hasn't been published yet; but I want to use the info from the chat topic in a Differentiated Supervision Project to build a support program for siblings & peers in supporting AT use #ATchat
Rarely ever able to make #ATchat live...Thanks @mmatp for posting the links to transcript from the past year. Check it out if you can...good summer reading :-) https://t.co/5o0mRLtxW5.
