CatholicEdChat is a twitter chat. Topics focus on discussions around educational issues for Catholic Educators and topics beneficial to Catholic Schools. We look forward to continuing to connect Catholic Educators online to discuss education and teaching with faith in our schools. The chat takes place on Saturday mornings. Time 9am EST.
Good morning, #CatholicEdChat! I am a theology teacher in my twelfth year at Bishop McNamara High School (@BMHSMustangs) in Forestville, Maryland (in the Archdiocese of Washington).
Good morning from Chicago. Ed-tech, secondary education. Just peaking in to say hello, as can't stay today. Making Christmas Eve ravioli with cousins soon! Have a gr8t #catholicedchat
Sean from Orland Pk IL. Tech Dir at Marian Catholic HS. Getting ready to support final exams - over 25% of Ts are giving finals through @Schoology next week. #catholicedchat
Sorry to miss #CatholicEdchat! My husband is a music minister and has a funeral this morning so I am the only show in town for my kids. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, tweeps!
A1: Gratitude is giving thanks to God first, which helps us to give thanks to others subsequently, just as when we love God first, we love our neighbor more easily. The story of Jesus and the ten lepers (Luke 17:11-19 [https://t.co/h1URq8JDbg]) comes to mind. #CatholicEdChat
A1: appreciation that is sincere. Sometimes being thankful is a byproduct of routine. Gratitude is felt as sincere possibly unwarranted. #CatholicEdchat
A2 - I started class last week with this speech as prayer... I now call the students "Generators of Hope" We started it as a laugh but then the truth of the statement sunk in and the gratitude is real https://t.co/b75y5DfVRB#catholicedchat
A2 Sharing stories/books. Help students to be aware of what they have and what others do not have. Example - our students are lucky to have the gift of an education. #catholicedchat
Yes! That sense of completion that comes in the small moments as well as the big ones. As simple as a fresh cup of coffee, as big as knowing everyone survived a plane crash #catholicedchat
whoa, how awesome! My husband and I would joke about the term, "Life Givers" when we use it with each other but I'm going to steal this one now. #CatholicEdChat
A2: I have my students write their parents, [other] teachers, coaches, and other community members thank-you notes/letters throughout the academic year, especially during Catholic Schools Week. We also view the theological meaning of "Eucharist" ("Thanksgiving"). #CatholicEdChat
Oh yes! Students witness so much division and separation. When we model wholeness they see the alternative (dare I say counter-culture) loving way of living. #catholicedchat
Q2 Heard a great Advent idea the other day. Have S’s add a piece of straw to the nativity scene manger preparing, for baby Jesus with each act of kindness/charity they perform. #CatholicEdChat
Great questions. We should model gratitude through the way we pray by putting the 'asking' part last. I love the ACTS model for this. https://t.co/SopTvP85b6#catholicedchat
I agree. We can show gratitude by making someone else’s job easier - like picking up after yourself so the maintenance staff doesn’t have to! #CatholicEdChat
A2: We do kindness shoutouts. Students jot down another students name and something they did for somebody else. We then read them over the intercom at recess. Students get to show gratitude for the good deeds others do for them. #CatholicEdChat
Right? We have similar conversations - how can we be men and women for and with others in everyday living with everyone we encounter - not just on designated service activities. #catholicedchat
Student this week who decided to take her colouring contest picture home so that others would have more chances to win because “I really have enough toys already” #catholicedchat
#CatholicEdChat A2, we let students nominate each other for our award based off the school theme of with all your heart, and we honor one kid who has been ezceptionally kind at our all school mass each month.
Seeing the smile on my grandson’s face after reading scripture during our advent wreath blessing at home, the next week he read at mass. Extra grateful because he has mental health issues and smiles are rare #catholicedchat
A3 Truly grateful for my partner, Kate Rezac, who continues to inspire me daily! She is encouraging, insightful and a hardworking teacher at @SMMschoolOmaha#CatholicEdChat
A3 Meant to actually put some words in here :-) Grateful Shoutout to all the generous educators supporting each other & so many young people at #catholicedchat
A3: I hereby recognize @timidstone, our academic dean and erstwhile English teacher at @BMHSMustangs, for holding our community - i.e., both teachers and students - to elevated academic standards, and encouraging the sharing of the Gospel across various curricula. #CatholicEdChat

Offering a Grateful Shoutout to @brebeufjesuit faculty and staff. As we approach exams & the end of the semester I have seen so many acts of love for students and families. Advent graces abound! #catholicedchat
Grateful for all staff from admin to janitors pitching in to set up for Christmas concert. Grateful for the healing that has happened since 22 January 2016. We have our sense of positive teamwork back! #catholicedchat
A3: Also gotta say I’m grateful for the long life of my dad, who lives with me. He’ll be 99 in February. He still teaches me so much that I then share with my students. #catholicedchat
A3 Gratful for @beingcatholic1 who helped me aknowledge my vocation as a Catholic school teacher and reminding me to rest on the weekends! #CatholicEdChat

A3: Gratitude Shoutout! I am forever grateful for @mrsmhebert and @plnaugle , for introducing me to the world of #pln Twitter and dragging me along and guiding me at conferences. They changed the way I function as an educator and I love them for that! #CatholicEdChat
A3: I'm grateful for a supportive and motivating Catholic education community! For all of you that support and encourage me! @NCEATALK@beingcatholic1#CatholicEdchat
#CatholicEdChat A3 I'm greatful for other colleagues who inspire our students to open their minds and hearts to become better people! our film teachers clearly showed evidence of that this week.
Grateful also for our parents who support our efforts in the partnership! And dedicated priests, like Fr. Joe who come and visit the classrooms. #CatholicEdChat
Bustin’ thru hustle & bustle. Can’t miss this chance to say I’m also grateful for the welcome & inspiration from #Catholicedchat, esp. @BarbInNebraska@ncara
#CatholicEdChat and I must acknowledge how greatful I am to @adkopp76 for pushing me to grow professionally and all her expertise and support of the high school campus ministry network we're starting and growing. (email cmhsnetwork@gmail.com) if you're a hsCM and want to be in!
A3: All the authors out there! Thank you for all the ARCs, Public events, Skypes, FB events. I ❤️ meeting you and bringing you into my classroom! #booksmakethebestgifts#CatholicEdChat
A3: My wife, Bernadette, is not on Twitter, but she is the foremost educator for our four kids! I remain grateful for her. Since she is not on Twitter, can this get some "likes" so that I can show her how many people appreciate her and phenomenal mothers like her? #CatholicEdChat
Going along with what @mmdetrick alluded to... my book "Called to Teach: Daily Inspiration for Catholic Educators" (@avemariapress, 2016) is now in its *second* printing. It would make a great gift for fellow Catholic teachers out there! 🙂 #CatholicEdChathttps://t.co/8iicj5agKG

Have a great weekend, #CatholicEdChat! Please remember to help promote the @March_for_Life 2018 (Friday, January 19, 2018 in DC) in your Catholic educational institutions; this annual pro-life effort is one that we are able to embrace in our communities. https://t.co/JrJrqMcN3f
