Competitive gaming is making it to the mainstream! Competitions are selling out venues like Madison Square Garden and online streaming of Esports is as popular as viewing of professional athletic events. Colleges are starting to provide scholarships for competitive gaming. It is time to build the pipeline to prepare students for these opportunities while honoring their interests and valuing their skills. This chat is aimed at building a community around the growth of Esports in grades 6 though 12 which will naturally feed into the college programs. Join us for the weekly #EsportsEDU chat at 7:30 pm ET. It is a 30 minute chat that will have one question / topic each week to guide the discussion. Use the hashtag #Esportsedu or join us via participate.com at participate.com/chats/EsportsEDU
Welcome to #EsportsEDU, the weekly chat about bringing #Esports to schools! Please introduce yourself with name, location, and role and predict teh most popular game in your game club this year that isn't Fortnite.
Steve from NJ - I teach Game Design and Development and host a game club at our middle school. I am hoping for @RocketLeague and #minecraft to be popular on a competitive level but like @MrMillerCodes I think #SuperSmashBros may take the cake #EsportsEDU

Tonight's Question / Topic: How do we manage ALL the gamers that would want to join our club? Is it only #Esports? How do we accommodate all types of gamers? #EsportsEDU Discuss...
Last year a number of kids couldn't get into the club because it filled up. This year I broke it into two separate clubs and both clubs (Monday and Thursday) are full and it's working out great so far! #EsportsEDU and we have more girls than ever!!!!! #girlscangame

Our club (at the middle school) is definitely not just #Esports. It's primarily a casual game club with the hope of branching off into some competitive gaming. The HS club we are starting will have more of a competitive focus #esportsedu
We will as well!!! When does it come out? That's gonna be awesome as we have many kids with the switch in club and I love the idea of hanging out on our bean bag furniture playing multiplayer #EsportsEDU

I think if you offer expanded club roles more types of gamers can be accommodated, include journalism, reviews, management, event management, marketing ext & allow kids to focus on the game genres that they like or play #EsportsEDU

This week in club we had a competition playing @ftb_team#EggHunt modded #minecraft map. 30 minutes to collect as many ender-dragon eggs as you can - 32 eggs in total. Today one student got all 32 eggs :) Kids loved it! #esportsedu
On rainy days the game club gets far more attention. Not sure how to manage a 2X increase in middle schoolers based on Mother Nature's whim. :( #EsportsEDU

WOW! Pay to play! that's the sustainability piece I'm missing. It has always been on me to buy everything. Every day the kids have change left over from lunch. I might do a donation jar to start. #ESportsEDU
Yeah - our district started a pay to play after school program as we couldn't really sustain clubs previously. It's worked out great and allows us to purchase a lot of software, some hardware, etc. lots of toys :) #EsportsEDU
I'm grateful that I connected with a teacher at the HS who's interested in running the club with me. Looking forward to getting it under way! #EsportsEDU

Sorry @mr_isaacs My eyes are crossed tonight as the Leafs are playing. With a team this good I'm not missing a game this year :) Trying to juggle both game and chat then Minecraft call :) ! #ESportsEDU
This is our most requested game by far — even over @FortniteGame! Haven’t played it myself — but the kids seem to really like it! I’m more of a single-player campaigner myself — but the multiplayer looks intense! #EsportsEdu

Thanks for joining us tonight for the #EsportsEDU chat. Please reintroduce yourself with your name, location and predict the game that will be LEAST popular in your club (but you'll include it anyway!) And don't forget to join our @discordapp server https://t.co/m1LjY42JL7
I had everyone play it week 1 and some kids wanted to play again today - hoping that continues. Exposure is important and then kids need to determine on their own if they want to keep playing #EsportsEdu

We now have community managers for the games that students are interested in, so we are building leadership capacity with our general club members — which was a big focus when the board and I met. How do we include other club members and let them take ownership? #EsportsEdu
