We'll be using the standard Q1/A1 format in tonight's #NYEDChat/#Wonderchat. Get ready for an hour of engaged learning and great conversation as we #CelebrateMonday with our colleagues.
Whew. Just getting home from meeting with the AdvancED team who will visit our school for the next two days. Getting back just in time for a super #wonderchat which will celebrate #NationalPoetryMonth along with #NYEdChat. My name is Paul. Southern Indiana. Classroom teacher.
A1: My high school English teacher required his students to make an independent study of Prufrock and then compose a lengthy research paper in response. I was terrified, and then, I was proud. I found meaning inside of a "hard" poem, and this was everything. #NYEDChat#WonderChat
A1 I fell in love with #poetry in high school-so many amazing poets were introduced: e.e.cummings, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Shakespeare, Elizabeth Barrett Browning. I started writing for the school's literary magazine. #NYEDChat#WonderChat#poetrylove
A1: Two of the first poems I remember loving are “Seal Lullaby” by Rudyard Kipling (https://t.co/X9YyN3SWko) and “Firefly,” by @rebeccakaidotlich. And “Until I Saw the Sea,” by Lilian Moore. (It’s hard to narrow these down, I swear!) #WonderChat#NYEdChat
A1 in a galaxy far far away I had elem teachers who believed in poetry as a tool of learning to speak in public- and that poetry was meant to be spoken more than read Fog by Carl Sandburg was one I learned early #NYEDChat#WonderChat
A1: I wish I could tell you that the first poem I had ever read and was moved by was a Browning sonnet or something of this ilk. But, it wasn't. It was Shel. His rambling verse hooked me early and I couldn't get enough "sidewalk" or "light in the attic." #wonderchat/#NYEdChat
We had a newspaper, and I also wished we had a magazine. We didn't have nearly enough exposure to poetry then, either. It's one gift that technology delivers: access. #NYEDChat#WonderChat
A1 When I was 18 "Renascence" by Edna St. Vincent Millay turned me into a poetry lover for life. (And inspired notebooks full of bad poetry!) #nyedchat/#Wonderchat
We might need another Google Sheet made for all these great suggestions. Feeling like there are MANY more wonderful titles to come! #NYEDChat/#Wonderchat

A1) I fell in love with poetry and seventh grade when I was asked to write a poem about animals. I route several poems and books (non-published) since then. I find it’s a good way to relax! #NYEDChat
A1 I feel in love with poetry while acting for a touring troupe called Poetry Alive! based in Asheville, NC. One of the poems that shook me to my core that I performed was "Richard Cory" by Edwin Arlington Robinson. #NYEDChat#wonderchat
A1: I also came into the poetry through parody. I was about seven or eight when I first heard Weird Al's "My Balogna." It was all over for this fan of Mad Magazine and Cracked. If poetry could skewer and satirize, I was in. All in. #wonderchat#NYEdChat

A1) when I was a freshman high school my English teacher, Mrs. Patterson, helped me understand the meaning of poetry with Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson and so many more!! It is a wonderful way to look at literature! #NYEDChat
Oh, I was so bitter. I was the bitterest of bitter students through the entire process and perhaps, into my first year of college....until I realized how well the experience prepared me for my first comp class. #NYEDChat#WonderChat
#NYEDChat/#Wonderchat Anne of Green Gables had the "kindred spirit" of a poet. LM Montgomery's novel is poetry. It influenced me a lot growing up. Amy/H IS FOR HAIKU @PennyCandyBooks

A1: A few years later, I feel in love with the work of Robert Hayden, particularity his poem "Those Winter Sundays". Watching my tour partner perform that poems was always a thrill.
#nyedchat a1 It's ok to not write #poetry but to enjoy child like wonder themes and that is what Jack Prelutsky gave me. The chanting of "through and through" is wonderful prosody #languagematters
A2: One simple activity to welcome someone to poetry, even if they’re intimidated by it, is to write a poem together. A “Things to Do if...” poems work beautifully! (Dxns for Things to Do poems on page 4 of https://t.co/5ieClNHh4Z) #WonderChat#NYEdChat
I met Weird Al (in a VIP signing line), I had ten seconds to say something. I told him each of his projects always felt like "coming home" to me. Coming home to being quirky selves and finding the fun in the culture that takes itself so seriously at times. #WonderChat#NYEdChat
A2 Reading aloud poetry is a great way to get others excited about the way the words come together in a flow. I introduced @PoetryOutLoud to the Eng Dept & they ran with it at HS. We had many dramatic stu-readings that were welcomed by students. #NYEDChat#WonderChat#poetrylove
You know, we never reflected together. Those were the days where you listened, took notes, did as you were told, and answered the questions asked. We didn't share. We played our cards close to our chests, too. Did it. Turned it in. Got a grade. #NYEDChat#WonderChat
A2 Reading and sharing poetry early and often. I read poems everyday with my intervention Ss. Poems for two voices or taking turns line by line are especially engaging! #nyedchat/#Wonderchar
A1: as a child I memorized any and all poems. I didn’t fall in love until teaching a weekly poem to my self-contained classroom. The Eagle by ALT was my favorite. #WonderChat#NYEdChat
A2: A simple activity is to take a popular song that has a lot of imagery and depth and just talk about it. Explore the feelings the person associates with the images, and how the rhythm and music adds to the meaning of the poem. #WonderChat
I hope you invite a whole bunch of shared meaning making, too. I am sure you do. I would have loved this, and it would have lowered my levels of concern considerably.
#NYEDChat#WonderChat
Exactly! Poetry can be silly and fun, serious and deep. You can find whatever you need in poetry. And, honestly, who doesn't need Weird Al now and then? https://t.co/zzWw132EKL#WonderChat#NYEdChat

And, not to aside, but my love for Weird Al and my love for literature have come together as I have written parodies like "I'm Lennie and I Know It" (to LMFO tune) and "In the Woods Last Night" (to Katy Perry). Literature parodies. #WonderChat#NYEdChat
A2 young children naturally seem to find poetry of interest w/o labeling it - funny poems make them laugh or wonder - and getting them to write in poetic form is an entry to reading too #NYEDChat#wonderchat
A2: Ask that person what are their interest. Match a poetic book or poem to that interest. I happened to me on a school visit when a child said he liked boxing and I performed a boxing poem I wrote, he was dialed in for the rest of the assembly. #NYEDChat#wonderchat
#NYEDChat/#Wonderchat Visual poetry can be used to teach the basics of art. I worked with arts ed group https://t.co/DNiA160dO9 in NY on collage/painting/drawing programs in city schools, using haiku. Why not poetry teach other art forms? @pennycandybooks H IS FOR HAIKU
A2: #Wonderchat#NYEDChat Even as a 7th grade teacher, it seems acrostic poetry is 100% non-threatening and not intimidating ...also spoken word poetry ...kids love @buttonpoetry
I did this with my fifth graders two years ago (before I moved first grade.) I had a writing wall specifically for freestyle poems and raps. They loved it because it wasn’t forced! #NYEDChat
A2 some of our teens gravitate to our music construction studios where they build the lyrics they want to sing or poetry they want to share out loud .. their words, their lives, their arts #NYEDChat#WonderChat
Love song lyrics. 100 Years by Five for Fighting is my fav. Lots of Gordon Lightfoot. Eons back, my Ss & I compared songs w books. "Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush to novel. "Moon Over Bourbon Street" Sting to Interview w/a Vampire. https://t.co/JOcwYHzJr4#WonderChat#NYEdChat
A2: I think the BEST activity is hearing the voice of the writer read their poetry!!!! I remember the first time I heard Shel, Maya, and Nikki's VOICES!!! We listen to audio books in the car. It's like their voices and words were JUST FOR ME. #Wonderchat#nyedchat#KidsCanTeachUs
A2: Once, ages ago at the annual NCTE conference, we were invited to participate in a Quaker read of a complex poem. We each selected one line to share aloud, and listening to what repeated across the room was stirring. #NYEDChat#WonderChat
A2: a weekly poem to practice fluency - choral reading and repeated readings - plus a “slam” on Fridays for any student who wants to perform - memorized or not! #WonderChat#NYEdChat
#nyedchat 3rd Grade Teacher. Baltimore County, MD. I read Shel Silverstein 'Where The Sidewalk Ends' several dozen times as a child. I remember the diverse and unique shape to his poems. @MsValerioBCPS#WonderChat
A2 a wonderful writing educator and poet @UVa Margo Figgins introduced our community of practice elem teachers to found word poetry using cut up magazines and newspapers/ kids loved to build poetry from those words - before poetry magnets there was ... #NYEDChat
#nyedchat a2 Not just kids who are intimidated by poetry. It can be a tough genre to get the flow vibe. In #Auslan or #ASL pick subject they can relate to. Butterfly is magic to watch, no matter your language https://t.co/P4fz51eQ0M
Such an interesting point, Pam. A love of poetry can be cultivated intuitively. This reminds me of the importance of growing readers and writers on poetry. The longer we wait to introduce it, the more unfamiliar it might feel later on. #NYEDChat#WonderChat
A2: A simple activity I like to do with my 5th graders who are intimidated by poetry is have them create 'list poems'. They love the ease of the format and the repetition. #WonderChat#NYEDChat#sbpdchat
This was my now 21 year old daughter's favorite book. I was a brand new Twitter use then, and @SharonCreech chatted with her here, as she ate her breakfast cereal. She was over the moon. That was so long ago now, and it feels like yesterday. #NYEDChat#WonderChat

Hi, I'm Kaitlin Gionta! Current preservice teacher studying at Grove City College, and I'm joining in late because I didn't know this chat was happening but I LOVE poetry! #wonderchat#NYEdchat
I like that they had fun. This kind of thing terrified me as a student! The communities in classrooms feel different today (thankfully!). https://t.co/qL7c8GixQS#WonderChat#NYEdChat
A2: I would literally flood my classroom with poetry books. When I maxed out my library card (100 books), I would move on to husband's account. No one was ever allowed to say they didn't like poetry. They just hadn't found the right book yet! #WonderChat#NYEDChat
Hi, I'm Kaitlin Gionta! Current preservice teacher studying at Grove City College, and I'm joining in late because I didn't know this chat was happening but I LOVE poetry! #wonderchat#NYEdchat
A3 #Wonderchat#NYEDChat Since the classroom is diverse, I find sharing with peer feedback on poems the student’s have written is diversity with authenticity...then the mentor texts themselves
A3 one of the best elem Ts I have known would pull poetry from different cultures on similar themes and kids would consider similarities and differences #NYEDChat#wonderchat
A3: Right now, our AP students are considering the documentary, LOUDER THAN A BOMB (a #Room407 tradition). Not only do our students get to see teens planning for an performing spoken word poetry, they get to see diverse cross-sections come together in verse. #WonderChat#NYEdChat
A1: I fell in love with Alexander Pope's Rape of the Lock and Robert Browing's My Last Duchess! Those were what really got me into poetry #wonderchat#NYEdchat
Just discovered this doc - probably because of you! It is so great and I'm hoping it will fire up my students to not only read, but write their own poetry #wonderchat#nyedchat

Oh my. You've just given me an incredible idea. @KFelicello I think this could be a great way to empower ENL students. Kate! You rock! Thank you for sharing this thought. #NYEDChat#WonderChat
A3 My new favorite is Can I Touch Your Hair by @Irene_Latham & @waterscharles! Each poem helps us, as Irene says, "realize that we’re all human people, we have more in common than we have separate, different, and that the different parts are beautiful.” #NYEDChat/#WonderChat
Such an interesting point, Pam. A love of poetry can be cultivated intuitively. This reminds me of the importance of growing readers and writers on poetry. The longer we wait to introduce it, the more unfamiliar it might feel later on. #NYEDChat#WonderChat
I recommend watching all the way through so as to catch that narrative arc through the four featured poets. What's been really neat is friending and following some of the poets from the film at Facebook and here at Twitter. Nate is too cool! #LouderThanABomb#WonderChat#NYEdChat
A2 I know you've moved on, but I'm slow at this. My students created their own anthologies of poems they liked. It was my favorite project to evaluate. I always found new favorites! #NYEDChat#WonderChat
Q4 How do children react to the power of poetry in their lives? Share a specific example of how the power of poetry has impacted you or a reader you know?? #NYEDChat/#WonderChat
Planning on trying out @PoetryOutLoud next year - it's a variation on this theme - poetry definitely empowers my reluctant readers #wonderchat#nyedchat
In reply to
@LyricsforLiam, @AngelaStockman, @PoetryOutLoud
A2: A simple activity to introduce people to poetry would be to have them write a short poem about a favorite book/show character of theirs! we did something like this in high school to introduce us to writing poetry! #Wonderchat#NYEdchat#gccedu
A4: Poetry impacts children when it gives them a voice for their innermost selves. Poetry leads them to themselves in a unique way. #WonderChat#nyedchat
Q 4 Striving readers love poetry. It’s short and accessible. A student I’ve tutored for 2 years reads and practices a poem a week she chooses. Now as a 5th grader, she reads poetry all the time—checks out poetry from library & reads them to her family. #NYEDChat
A2: I think some students are "afraid" of poetry and using lyrics is a comfortable way to introduce poetry in a more familiar form. #NYEDchat#wonderchat
A2: I would literally flood my classroom with poetry books. When I maxed out my library card (100 books), I would move on to husband's account. No one was ever allowed to say they didn't like poetry. They just hadn't found the right book yet! #WonderChat#NYEDChat

A3: My favorite poet for connecting with readers who identify with black culture and tradition is Eloise Greenfield. "Honey, I Love" is one of my favorite poems. #WonderChat#NYEDChat#sbpdchat
A4: We've talked about the impact of @shanekoyczan's "To This Day." I think young people hear something of themselves in the piece and forget--just for a moment--that this is poetry. Ted Kooser would celebrate this, I think. Poem. Not form or delivery. Poem. #wonderchat#NYEdChat
A4 In the grand experiment that is parenthood, I think the heavy poetry exposure at least contributed to making one of my sons a poet/songwriter. At least I like to think so. :) #NYEDChat / #WonderChat
So true Angela - children are by nature poets at heART and l love repetitive rhythm, song, story that flows .. it’s natural or timeless learning that dates back to the campfire #NYEDChat#WonderChat
A3: I think a very popular cross-cultural poetry book right now is @rupikaur_ 's Milk and Honey and The Sun and Her Flowers. These are books that not only interweave different cultural values but are popular among many students today. #wonderchat#NYEDChat#gccedu
A4 My earliest memories of my father of are of him reading poetry to me. He taught me to love words, love life. He made me a poet. #NYEDChat / #WonderChat
A4: I’ve seen it over and over on school visits. Poetry frees students to write about deeply personal topics, like a parent’s illness or their own insecurities. And reading all kinds of poetry helps Ss find poems that tell them they are not alone. #WonderChat#NYEdChat
A4 Two 3rd girls were doubled over in laughter today as they read poem after poem from Mary Ann Hoberman's must-have book, You Read To Me, I'll Read To You. They were willing to miss lunch to keep reading! ##NYEDChat/#WonderChat
A4: @amylvpoemfarm once gave me a poem that mattered at just the right moment. This inspired me to do the same...quietly...and thoughtfully....when a kid that I care about might need one. It's everything. #NYEDChat#WonderChat
A3: BEST #heartbeep author @AndreaDavisPink 💓 But also I think using MUSIC to inspire kids helps them fall in love with words and poetry!!! I super love looking at the lyrics of songs my dad listens to!!!! Like old guy smooth songs. #wonderchat#NYedchat
A4 We started poetrythis year with @phil_kaye “Repetition “with so many broken homes...kids were locked in immediately...listening way more than the two times I asked #impact#WonderChat#NYEdChat
My 5yo son, encouraged+ guided by teacher @WymansWonders has become a junky - recites poetry by memory to soothe himself to sleep, waits every night for the latest @amylvpoemfarm#poetrychallenge posts, has poetry battles with me on our ride to school. #WonderChat#NYEdChat
Q4 How do children react to the power of poetry in their lives? Share a specific example of how the power of poetry has impacted you or a reader you know?? #NYEDChat/#WonderChat
Absolutely, and don't miss Nikki Giovanni's book, Hip Hop Speaks to Children which brings together hip hop music and poetry in surprising ways. We just listened to some of this book (comes with audio) in our mentor group last week. #WonderChat#NYEdChat
Q 5 I love to handle poetry books and read the poems so I use my public library and go to book stores like Barnes and Noble and Books a Million. #NYEDChat
One of my reluctant reader boys was reading a poetry collection and said "Where's the boys' stories of difficult relationships?" and another boy chimed in from across the room - "Here's one!" holding up HER from @PierreAJeanty#nyedchat#WonderChat
Q4 How do children react to the power of poetry in their lives? Share a specific example of how the power of poetry has impacted you or a reader you know?? #NYEDChat/#WonderChat
A4: Having Ss participate in Poetry Slams. One very shy student recited a Vietnam poem and had a veteran in the audience come up to share how moved he was. #NYEDChat#WonderChat
A4: I grew up reading Shel Silverstein and remember how tattered and worn the pages of my favorite poems were from reading them over and over again. Didn't know that that passion of mine would lead me to a life-long career of dissecting and analyzing poetry! #wonderchat#NYEdchat

Watching my PA tour partner perform "Elena"by Pat Mora about a Latina mother learning English "for if I stop trying, I will be deaf when my children need my help." I saw girls crying because it reminded them of their mothers. #NYEDChat#wonderchat
#NYEDChat/#Wonderchat What about "found poetry"? E.g, gathering random words and phrases from different sources around us & organizing them into poems, collaboratively? @pennycandybook, H IS FOR HAIKU
A4: I think kids need to move to poetry. Like when I hear beautiful words I just want to move my body. Maybe it's because I'm a ballerina. But I think poetry inspires movement! #wonderchat#NYEDchat
A5: I select a poem from https://t.co/mXAcFR03Yr and have students read first. Then, we watch the film and discuss how it changed their perception of the poem. They then reread the poem and point out new ideas that jump out to them. They then create motion poems. #wonderchat
A4: My 8 year old son loves poetry. He enjoys rhyming poems and fun animal poetry. He likes it so much that he has a big book of poems that he likes to read. (scribed from his words just now) #Wonderchat#NYEDChat#sbpdchat
#wonderchat/#NYEdChat A4 again, performance. Sometimes I read poetry w/ lots of rhythm & my granddaughters learn the lines w/ call & response - they love dancing with the words, & then feel free to create their own!
A1 e.e. cummings in college. I was amazed by how much he could say in so few words. I was also obsessed with the way he could bed grammar and punctuation to his will. #wonderchat#NYEDChat
A5: I have to pick up an actor from his practice, so I am glad that I can answer this question before I have to go: @amylvpoemfarm's POEMS ARE TEACHERS: HOW STUDYING POETRY CAN STRENGTHEN WRITING IN ALL GENRES. I am using this month for 30/30 Challenge. #wonderchat#NYEdChat
A5: Looking for suggestions here. My *favorite* resource was the handwritten copies of poems my grandmother sent me in the mail ❤️ #WonderChat#NYEdChat
A4 My earliest memories of my father of are of him reading poetry to me. He taught me to love words, love life. He made me a poet. #NYEDChat / #WonderChat
A5: Another poetry resource: I have a set of poetry collections just for teachers called 30 Painless Classroom Poems. Teaching guides written by classroom teachers, Notes from the Poet for each poem, etc. More at https://t.co/QxxuAhb80t#WonderChat#NYEdChat
A5: It all started with Milk and Honey by @rupikaur_ and now my sophomores are drinking these poetry collections like water. One girl said to me last week "I didn't know I liked reading until I found these books." #nyedchat#wonderchat#teachergoals
Finally I see that we are trending on Twitter-Keep those poetic voices rising friends. #NYEDChat/#WonderChat@@AngelaStockman your name is mentioned in the trend note.
A5: I have always loved visual poems or readings of poems. A lot of modern poetry writers are publishing these themselves, and it makes it easier to understand the tone they intended for the poem, as well as invokes emotions they meant to be felt #Wonderchat#NYEDChat
I came to poetry thru stories of how poetry was part of family in generations past / my grandmother’s gift of Longfellow to my grandfather and my 3rd great grandmother’s handwritten book of friend’s poetry #NYEDChat#wonderchat
A3: One Today by Richard Blanco and illustrated by Dave Pilkey. Will never forget readiing it to a group of 8th graders when I subbed & they applauded. Such a powerful poem! #NYEDChat#WonderChat
You just reminded me of my mom reading Poe's "The Bells" to me and pointing out how cool the sounds in the poem were. Made me see language in a different way and probably was the beginning of my love of reading and writing #nyedchat#WonderChat

Try recommending Madisen Kuhn or Lang Leav to these students, as well! I love Rupi Kaur's writings, and have found these women to be just as strong of, if not stronger writers. #wonderchat#NYEdchat#gccedu

A6 It doesn't have to be a lesson. Just a moment, an offering. A way to BE together and connect through the beauty of wonder and language. #NYEDChat / #WonderChat
A5: I'm sure someone else has mentioned the Academy of American Poets, https://t.co/y4j1n5cuLv. They have great resources, a poem a week for teachers and so much more. #NYEDChat#WonderChat
REsources 4 poetry nooks in classrm & at home-any of poetry books by @Irene_Latham@LauraPSalas@waterscharles. If you have chance to hear them at a conference go right to that spot. You will be blown away with their enthusiasm and mastery of word weaving. #NYEDChat/#WonderChat
#NYEDChat/#Wonderchat Poems are performance. When I work with Arts For All, together we act out haiku as if they are little stories or plays. We move/dance; & sing to them. So much packed power into 3 lines! @pennycandybooks H IS FOR HAIKU

I have a daily writing crew of reluctant writers who start each day in my (special education) room with an extra writing exercise. I’ll switch to a daily #poetrychallenge with a mentor text posted to inspire them - can’t wait! 🙌🏻 #WonderChat#NYEdChat
A6: In my own work, I think I might need to begin weaving more poetry into the professional learning sessions I facilitate. Helping teachers fall in love with it. Stay in love with it. #NYEDChat#WonderChat
A5: Don't know if anyone has mentioned Georgia Heard's book Awakening the Heart. It's a personal favorite for inspiring me as a teacher. And she sat at our table one evening at the All Write Conference. We were starstruck! #NYEDChat#WonderChat
Q 6 Include poetry in every unit of study. Encourage students to perform poems. Read poetry every day. Have students copy favorite poems in their notebooks as they compile their personal collection. Share. Share. Share! #NYEDChat
That's the thing about poetry. It often starts out seeming weird and then morphs into something beautiful and meaningful as we absorb it more:>) https://t.co/jBvFnowsV9#WonderChat#NYEdChat
#Wonderchat A6 I always start every class I teach at UNH w a poem. Students tell me after the semester ends that they thought it odd at first but wound up appreciating it.
100% agree that teachers need to discover how amazing poetry is - I think that's grassroots in the battle to spread the #poetrylove#NYEDChat#WonderChat
I was just TODAY looking at one of the mini-anthologies I created (in a mini photo album from the dollar store) when I first started reading children's poetry. I typed my fav poems on index cards and put them in the sleeve protectors! https://t.co/KOUExtpUUJ#WonderChat#NYEdChat

Yes thanks for mentioning Renee's site. There are so many wonderful poets at #PoetryFriday. That is another good site for teachers to go to on Fridays. #NYEDChat/#WonderChat
Optional Gallery Wall Addition (to share the love of poetry throughout and beyond April, #NationalPoetryMonth Add an inspirational thought on poetry, an image poem, or poem to share during National Poetry Month. These will be collected and shared on social #NYEDChat/#WonderChat
You actually just reminded me...my real first memorable poetry experience was my father as well. He wrote poems for my mom and us kids...He used written words to say what he felt. Thank you for reminding me to look beyond academia! #WonderChat#NYEDChat
Family memories. I wrote poems to my husband when we were engaged and early years of marriage. I wonder if anyone would love these in the future. #NYEDChat/#WonderChat
#wonderchat/#NYEdChat A6 when I was a lit coach, I wked w/ every teacher, helped them find ways to include poetry, in math, pe, outdoor field work, etc. It was a lot of fun to help them love it in their subject area!
I have an Educational Assistant in my classroom who told me she did NOT like poetry when we started this year - but *now* she does. :) #NYEDChat#wonderchat
I'm going to think on this more. I think I might spend this testing week at my local bookstore, since I'm not working in schools. I need to gather some poems for teachers. <3 #NYEDChat#WonderChat
It's only been in the last couple of years that I've started to discover a wider range of contemporary poetry and that's mostly due to my students and my amazing #aplitchat#aplangchat communities - #TeachLivingPoets is a great resource for discovering them #NYEDChat#WonderChat
I am so jealous of y'all with a family tradition of poetry! My 85-year-old dad quoted a poem to me last week--the first time I've ever heard him do that! #WonderChat#NYEdChat
Thanks for great chats #NYEDchat and #LearnLAP. A double chat focus on literacy and poetry is like peanut butter and jelly! I learned a lot as a science T
Too often I think we dissect poetry and leave it limp on the table, pinned down & helpless. It's supposed to be fun, beautiful, moving, memorable. We have to do more than analyze to rekindle the love. #NYEDChat#wonderchat
I still go back to my old school for Poem in Your Pocket Day. I'm there at lunch, reading poetry to students as they stand in line for food. I love a captive audience! #NYEDChat#WonderChat
Thank you for all these wonderful ideas and recommendations. I'm gonna have a whole slew of poets and books and poems new to me to check out! So great to chat with you all! https://t.co/dTXENCPnJ1#WonderChat#NYEdChat
