A1 A connected classroom is a classroom that reaches outside the 4 walls of the school to provide students with a more diverse learning experience #DitchBook
A1: I think the connected classroom uses formative assessment to drive student led learning in the classroom. Students understand the "why" to everything that happens in the classroom. #DitchBook chat @DitchThatTxtbk
A1: Connected classroom is one where Ts facilitate opportunities for Ss to connect with the community and world around them: community projects, makerspace challenges with social solutions, #gridpals#DitchBook
A1 – A connected classroom is a learning environment that is open and connected to the world outside of the classroom walls. Ss are engaged in authentic, real-life learning that starts in their class and extends beyond to the globe. #ditchbook
A1: For me, this means using tech tools appropriately and effectively but also being connected F2F. Ss work collaboratively and I get to know them as well as I possibly can. #DitchBook
A1: A connected classroom leverages other people and places for learning.
It brings them in virtually, in person or through a variety of means.
And those connections create POWERFUL, memorable learning. #DitchBook
A2 – Benefits of connected classrooms provide ample opportunity for a S’s voice beyond their community, for cultural enrichment and observations, real world problems, and engagement with the world. Google hangouts/Skype with Experts offer real experiences #ditchbook

A1: A connected classroom has no walls when it comes to learning, solving problems, and serving others. Setup ways Ss can: be peer helpers to Ss everywhere, be kindness mentors, and have fun together. Create experiences w/connections. #DitchBook
A2: Being in a cash-strapped district, it saves a ton of money on field trips! But, it has SO MANY benefits to the students. Powerful, engaging learning without ever leaving the classroom. #ditchbook
When you pair students up with other students -- or mentors -- or in small groups across the globe -- the results of a connected classroom can be anything but teacher-centered! #DitchBook
A2 Gives students a more authentic experience. Virtual field trips are a great resource— Google Expeditions/Maps for exploring unfamiliar places. #DitchBook
A2: Our Ss need to be connected to the world they live in & see that there are other communities and lives that are learning just like they are. Removes the small world that can be their lives. #DitchBook
A2: Why connect your classroom outside your four walls?
👉 Expertise from experts
👉 Benefit from others' experiences
👉 Broader worldview for students
👉 Immediate answers to curiosity ?s
... and it goes on and on! #DitchBook
A2: Besides giving Ss an authentic audience, connecting them with Ss from all over broadens their experience base, which helps make them more globally aware-better global citizens. #DitchBook
This is a good point! #DitchBook When they hear from others -- and others support the learning they're doing -- being connected gives students a boost!
A2 Real world connections benefit our students by giving meaning to the lessons we teach. It shows them how they can apply their learning to their own lives. It gives them ownership of their educational experiences. #DitchBook
A1: We are an IB World School so it's really important to not only connect with parents but also different cultures and nations. There's a big wide world out there outside of school, and it's important Ss are exposed to it. #ditchbook
#Ditchbook A2 Last year we did 2 cultural conversations. One with a class in Argentina 🇦🇷 over gender inequality and one with a class in Monterrey Mexico 🇲🇽 over current events. We put together questions and responded. Learned to agree to disagree.
#ditchbook A2: Connected classrooms are more "real world" and helps Ss model how to properly connect and network with others (making meaingful connections is much more than random Snapchat followers!)
Wondering if you have the #edtech chops to do video calls?
I'll bet you do. Here's an infographic with the steps!
(If you can FaceTime your grandma, you can do this!) #DitchBook

A2: Connecting to people outside of our own four walls of school helps us to see the big picture in education. Sharing ideas in education is what drives change. Change in education can net better learning gains for our students. #DitchBook chat @DitchThatTxtbk
A2: It shows that your day to day experience is not the totality of experience. There are other people, places, cultures, and ideas out there and they are worth investigating and exploring and interacting with to broaden our own minds. #DitchBook
