#TeacherFriends Q1: How can technology energize and elevate a 'traditional' lesson? Please share examples of how you have used technology to energize and elevate within your setting. Any photos to share?

Q1 My fav "energizing" way to begin a lesson is with the online formative assessment tool Kahoot. It's fun & informative for them & me! #TeacherFriends
A1 My fav "energizing" way to begin a lesson is with the online formative assessment tool Kahoot. It's fun & informative for them & me! #TeacherFriends
Hi! I am Sara Hodge a technology facilitator in Collierville, TN. Relatively new to using twitter to form a PLN. Excited to make connections! #teacherfriends
A1 Technology can make a traditional lesson engaging and exciting for students. Depending on the activity, students can further learn about the topic. True differentiation can happen when adding tech. #teacherfriends
A1 : Tech can energize the students by providing them an authentic learning experience relevant to their lives. If learning isn’t relevant to them, the battle for engagement grows steeper! #TeacherFriends

Technology has power to engage! We can take a basic review of historical figures and make it come alive in an app like chatterpix! Students also learn more effectively when they are creating instead of simply consuming and tech is a great tool for creation! #teacherfriends

A1: Let’s say a typical lesson is direct instruction using a PowerPoint with students working on questions after. With tech, we can use apps like NearPod to differentiate the lesson, embed high-level questions, and increase the engagement #teacherfriends
#TeacherFriends Q2: What can students create with technology to 'show what they know' about a new topic? How do you facilitate the "showing" for your students?
A2: #teacherfriends We are loving PicCollage Edu to show what we know about a topic. Ss can take pix of things they have learned about a topic and AirDrop their collage to me to show their understandings. We create a whole group collage 1st & then they work individually.
A2 In my class, students do a lot of group work. Their fav collaborative presentation tool is Google Slides. Next semester, I'll show them how to integrate Pear Deck with Slides. #TeacherFriends
A1: I love using Adobe Spark Video to have students create and use their own voice to express understanding of a subject or be able to record steps to help their classmates understand concepts. #teacherfriends
A few examples we have created are iMovie trailers, an art tutorial in Clips and screen record. I facilitate by providing templates when possible so Ss can focus on content and not get bogged down in tech. I also encourage them to answer each other’s questions. #teacherfriends
#TeacherFriends Q2: What can students create with technology to 'show what they know' about a new topic? How do you facilitate the "showing" for your students?
A2: I am a big proponent of project-based learning, and student created “products” are essential to the process. I’ve had students create videos using Flipgrid and Educreations and virtual labs. #teacherfriends
#TeacherFriends Q3: How can technology be used to help students explore their interests? How does technology support this exploration? Examples please!
A1 Isabella here from the snowy Cariboo in BC Canada. Technology has the power to engage, and gives unlimited potential to differentiate instruction, and provide opportunities for creation!! #TeacherFriends

A3: #teacherfriends My students love @EpicKidsBooks for finding and learning about things they are interested in knowing more about. The Read-to-Me feature is great for my non-readers so they can listen to the text and actually learn new things.
A2: Ss can use @AdobeSpark Page to create a site that highlights their understanding of a concept. It's quick and easy for Ss to learn. It creates a professional, stunning visual of their understanding. #teacherfriends

A3: I think it's not about how can the #EDTECH foster this or that but how can aT use that to offer better education. I use the SAMR model. Ask yourself, are you really making the maximum of the tech? #TeacherFriends
A3 My students enjoy watching tutorials. This semester, they made tutorials about how to play online games and how to utilize various websites using screenshots. Next semester I'll have them create their own video tutorials & upload to YouTube. #teacherfriends
A2 #TeacherFriends, so many opportunities to use voice. I LOOVE so many formative assessment tools: @Flipgrid and @RecapThat are awesome! I am playing with @tes_teach to build lessons and model.
A3: Every Friday and any other opportunity can, we have students take part in MakerSpace. A part of this is using technology for what they want to learn about. We have lots of different options. #TeacherFriends
Tech gives Ss choice, esp when showing what they know! Those that like to write can do a digital newspaper, those who are more artistic can create a movie, those who like to verbalize can create a shadow puppet. So many possibilities to explore when using tech! #teacherfriends
A3: Technology can be used by Ss to explore their interests by virtually touring areas of interest with @GoogleExpTour . Ss can also study areas of interest and create a @Google Site to demonstrate understanding. #teacherfriends
I love giving students choice in how they create their products and what they are actually interested in. I have a digital research protocol to help them in their exploration. #teacherfriends

Q4: Placing #TasksBeforeApps means we put the learning first when choosing digital tools - how do you choose the right "app" or "website" for a learning experience in your classroom? #teacherfriends
A4: I said this before and now again - open-ended apps that are easy to use (free is nice too) #teacherfriends Apps like @Seesaw and @BookCreatorApp are 2
A4: #teacherfriends I try to come up with the idea first or revamp an idea we've traditionally done with manipulatives or paper/pencil and make it digital. I check my standards to make sure its not losing edu. integrity in working digitally instead of the old way.

A4: #teacherfriends I will run through the whole task myself to determine if it will work and then ask my younger niece/nephew to try it out too. Sometimes I teach on the fly and just see what works and tweak as I go, but I always have backup plan just in case!
A4: I love sharing this #TasksBeforeApps poster to help us think about the different ways to leverage the power of technology in the classroom #teacherfriends

A4: 1) This is such a great question and one that I initially struggled with when I first started teaching. I used to try and fit into the instruction, which took away from the learning. #teacherfriends
I look at how students have successfully mastered the skill in the past (before tech) to get an idea of effective activities and strategies. Then I find tech that enhances and is seamless, not distracting or heavy. I try to make sure tech hits one of 4Cs! #teacherfriends
#TeacherFriends Q4: Placing #TasksBeforeApps means we put the learning first when choosing digital tools, How do you choose the right "app" or "website" for a learning experience in your classroom?
Yes! That's what I try to do as well. Can the digital activity enhance the learning experience, not replace a worksheet digitally. How can I enrich the whole experience? #TeacherFriends
A1: Tech gives my students voice and choice. I often explore to find new ways to elevate the trad lesson. Examples: #BAW#MM@CollabClassroom#TeacherFriends
A4: 2) Now I know using tech is not the main goal, rather it is a tool to help deeper learning. I use TRUDACOT....a technology rich tuning and planning model. It helps decide which tech apps to use. #teacherfriends
That's half the battle right there! Weeding through all the apps that are out there to find the ones that are truly useful, the ones that enhance learning, not replace worksheets. #TeacherFriends
RT ClassTechTips: Q4: Placing #TasksBeforeApps means we put the learning first when choosing digital tools - how do you choose the right "app" or "website" for a learning experience in your classroom? #teacherfriends
A2: Students use @Seesaw (notes and drawing), Google Forms, AnswerGarden, Padlet, and others to share what they know or learned from lessons. I love the collaboration in Google Classroom too! Student-to-student interaction is key 🔑 #TeacherFriends
A5: #teacherfriends By making sure I am giving each task, digital or other wise, due diligence. Checking to make sure the task is appropriate, effective, and necessary. I don't want the learning skill to get lost in the wonder of the technology!
A4 #TeacherFriends Tough question! I like to provide a few options that accomplish the same outcome, but generally look for free, no adverts, no login, or privacy policy up to Canada standards, open ended apps.

A5: Giving students plenty of opportunities to create an authentic product using open-ended creation tools is a great goal for 2018! ⭐️ #teacherfriends#tasksbeforeapps
A5: I ultimately would like my students to present their discoveries to others (parents, teachers, other students, community, etc.). Demonstrate their learning using digital tools of their choice. #teacherfriends
A5 I just started teaching at the college level, so I'm starting with the end in mind by closely examining my standards. I want to be sure to match the end goal with appropriate tasks to get students there. #teacherfriends
A5: Giving students plenty of opportunities to create an authentic product using open-ended creation tools is a great goal for 2018! ⭐️ #teacherfriends#tasksbeforeapps
A5: By first making sure the lessons and activities will help students demonstrate their knowledge of the content standards. And helping them become critical thinkers who can collaborate and persevere. #teacherfriends
When collaborating or planning with a teacher , I want to start the convo with the standard and goals of the lesson before looking at the tech piece-what do you want students to know or be able to do? #teacherfriends
#TeacherFriends Please join me in thanking our amazing guest @ClassTechTips Dr. Monica Burns for all of her insight and support.
Any final thoughts, suggestions, insight to share?
A3: @EpicKidsBooks is one of our favorite tools in the classroom because students can explore their interests & possibly form new likes towards different genres such as biographies! Today my students were able to explore biographies and share out what they learned #TeacherFriends
