Set wishes for a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend #bfc530 friends! I’m heading out into the darkness of the early morning for a run. We are that “extended family”... #gratefuledu
Our report card has each standard listed. Then we grade the major part of each standard with a 1 - 4. It is a big report card. Many of us discussed report in the afterchat on Voxer. #bfc530

Our grading scales weighs most heavily with projects and tests, least with homework/classwork. When I assess a standard, I use quiz grade - right in the middle. We are percentage-based in our grading, so I have to be a bit creative about it. #bfc530
15% class work/homework (completion only, 100% if on time, 90% if late), 85% quiz/test, but students are allowed multiple attempts to improve grades. I will always post their highest score. #bfc530
Grades: I am able to do as I see fit in my classes. I go with straight up points. Our district has quarterlies however and they are averaged into the final grades by a formula district sets.

Not even a text back?! 🙄 Hi all, I'm Kelsey, Kathy's daughter. 👋 I've heard so much about this chat and I was up early enough to read it today 😊 #bfc530
We don’t live in the same house. So she texted me that she was lurking and I called her out. Kelsey is a first year teacher of 1st grade, for anyone who hasn’t heard lol. #bfc530

All points, tests & essays worth higher than quizzes. Tests can be retaken for a % increase. I give extra credit paragraphs so a kid has the opportunity to improve their grade as well as writing skills as well #bfc530
For my kids, homework is 10%, tests, projects, quizzes are 90%.
I vote we give all our students A, toss out the grade books, and get on with the business of learning #bfc530
Not sure exactly what this question is asking but I'll give it a go.
We have 4 quarterly grades and a final exam grade - each are weighted equally, so count at 20% of the final average.
In terms of how T's get those quarterly grades-that varies.

Traditional report cards: four terms to determine final grade and credit.
Absences/tardies notes
Some pre-determined comments
Report out twice a year on school's 21stc learning expectations.

This post shows I either need to improve MY writing skills or have to drink more coffee this morning. Probably both #bfc530 "as well" has heavy emphasis

G’morning! Our grade level (5) team determines our grading structure. Currently we use letters (A,BC, or I for Intervention) for report card grades, numbers or letters get plugged into the system and averaged for assignments. We choose weights for categories #bfc530
Joining a bit late - from Cambodia! Only grades I did were in progress or mastery of standards-based competencies (no homework, participation, extra credit, etc.). Changes the focus to learning and growth vs. the grade rat race. #bfc530
I don't weight my grades ... I also don't give any tests unless they are mandated by district. Learning is gained through the activities ... the activity result is the summative assessment. ... and of course kids can go back and correct. #bfc530
At the elementary level we also provide performance levels on the report card- advanced, proficient, basic, below basic for a number of skills. #bfc530

Hellooooo! So, we have 80% summatives, 20% formatives. 6-8 summ/semester, min of 2-3 formatives/summative. BUT I am working with a PLC that’s hoping to make some change. Hate grading formatives! Hate grades, for that matter. #assessmoregradeless#bfc530
No report card grades in Kindergarten...learning stories are written and reported...based upon extensive documention, observations and conversations. #bfc530
It only took me 8 years to create a system that manipulates the grade to reflect skills mastered. So many less hours spent with parents that were complaining about grades now. #bfc530
I wish we had standards based report cards and I would be glad to write summary narratives for kids, but my team would kill me for mentioning it. Again. They will not support this idea. #bfc530
I always struggle getting early to join #bfc530 but once I'm here I remember why I do it.
#bfc530 energizes me, lifts me up, inspires me, starts my day off right and always make me smile! 😊

Grades are about measuring learning NOT screwing the kids over ... once had a teacher tell me that the test is a great equalizer ... will bring the grades down to balance out easy homework grades ... like it was a bag thing that kids had high grade #bfc530
Thanks, Kathy, for the Q! I left my wonderful school back in June to go freelance...working with schools & teachers everywhere rethink how we do high quality teaching & learning. Loving it...but REALLY miss the students! #bfc530#opensourcelearning@openwaypbl
I write “grades” but, with my class, the observations and comments I write I think are more important. They show what goals they reached and what next steps would be recommended, from many subjects like math or speech/communication #SpecialEducation#BFC530
Yes- even the deer freaked me out. I twisted my ankle terribly once when I turned to see what on earth this thing that looked like a fast beaver was and went into a rut. Never again. #bfc530

One of my EDL professors did just that. Up front he told us everyone would get an A because his job was to make sure we all mastered the material. He said, "I'll work with you until you get there" WOW! We need more like him!
#bfc530
Just trying to do right by the kids ... I find it strange that teachers will think something is wrong because a kid has a high grade ... go back and re-evaluate the assignments because they must be too easy ... or the kids are just learning? #bfc530
100% summative and 0% formative but formative work is still reported out. I was standards based at my last school then moved to a total points district and I didn’t realize just how attached I had become to SBG #bfc530
I don’t have a set project yet this semester/year. The idea so far is
50-60% Tests (Project will equate a test grade)
20-30% Quizzes
10-20% Semester Exam
I’m putting ranges because I’m still working out the plans at my new school. #bfc530
Summative category weighted 80%(assessment of learning via culminating projects) + 20% formative category (assessment for learning via in-process practice) #bfc530
A failure V success mindset for Ss often dictated by public discourse. When I trained as a T the Dean told us on day1 that 1/3 of us wouldn’t make it. At my graduation, person to left of me-day 1 wasn’t at Grad. Interesting @hgse seems to Graduate over 95% of Ss that start #bfc530
