Welcome to #BookCampPD I am Meredith Johnson your moderator and Jarod Bormann is here as our guest author to discuss his book Professionally Driven #ProDriven
Please introduce yourself and share a highlight of your summer.
Good morning, #bookcamppd Julie, School Psy, CT. Best part of this summer has been peace & quiet, & opportunities to engage in activities that I love. Reading, swimming, crafting, learning about whatever topics I choose! #prodriven#bookcamppd
Congratulations @JulieGB7@kmichellehowell and @KerrieWillis1 for the greatest participation during the past two weeks of our FAR - Friends and Reading - focus on "Professionally Driven." Starting tomorrow, jump into our daily questions about "Being the Change." #BookCampPD
We've already moved in but boxes are still everywhere! I hope to get everything settled before pre service is over and the real work starts. #BookCampPD

A1: I’ll share my biggest takeaway WRITING the book :) The problems I identified in the book with traditional PD is far more ubiquitous than I originally thought. #BookCampPD#ProDriven
A1: I haven’t had a chance to read this book yet. I would like to! I think one thing I’d like to get from the book would be how can I make PD more engaging for my colleagues? #bookcamppd

I'm interested to read because, though sometimes I do learn from organized PD, I have learned the most through channels I found (Twitter) and ones I made myself #BookCampPD
A1) My biggest takeaway from the book was the discussion on Sustainable Autonomy and creating discussions around autonomy versus compliance. Also included in that section was a discussion on initiative fatigue. #BookCampPD#prodriven
Question Two -
There are four stages: research, integration, reflect and share to the #ProDriven process model. Which of these do you think would be easiest for you to implement/which most challenging? Why? #BookCampPD
I agree, sometimes I learn through organized PD but it has to be specific, tailored to my situation, and meaningful. I prefer self-driven, point-of-need PD. #BookCampPD
A1: I hope another takeaway for most was…We can’t provide a lot of little one time learning events for educators. This is feeding them. We need to create the conditions for them to successfully hunt! #ProDriven#BookCampPD
A1: My biggest take away has been the 4 step model! This can apply to PD & so many other things! T evaluation, S evals (I'm schl psy), SEL instruction. This is so useful to keep in mind w/any new learning! #prodriven#bookcamppd
A1. @jbormann3 wrote a book which brings to life what I had come to believe about PD: it should be driven by what the educator needs in order to bring out their best for the kids. #BookCampPD#ProDriven
I struggle with mandatory PD that covers topics I already know and doesn't add anymore info or ideas. However, I have attended PD sessions on topics I am familiar with but still gain more insight #BookCampPD
People who never move beyond Research, in most cases, haven’t identified Point B (positive effects on learner outcomes). Once Point B is clear, the first step up the mountain becomes more confident. #ProDriven#BookCampPD
#bookcamppd I feel like this 4 step model requires full participation by all especially in the research process. I'm sure its covered in the book, but, what do you do when you struggle to get everyone to do the work?
A2a: I could see this being different depending on individual & district. For some, it's hard to ID the area of challenge. Others may struggle w/the sharing beyond walls piece. Depending on district & finance, some journeys may be diff in integration step. #prodriven#bookcamppd
A2) For me the easiest would be reflection because I already authentically and actively reflect through my blog. But I don't think there is a difficult. If you're able to drive your own learning, everything else will be easy because you'll have buy-in to the process #BookCampPD
It takes time for staff to shift from passive traditional PD to active #ProDriven learning. Those “reluctant” have just learned to play the wait game. “It’ll be something new in a year or two. #ProDriven#BookCampPD

This conditioned mindset of “reluctance” when it comes to PD is not their fault. They need to see others progressing on their journey before they feel comfortable to go on theirs. #ProDriven#BookCampPD

If there is more than 1 person with a similar goal of positive effects on learner outcomes, they by all means, journey together :) #ProDriven#BookCampPD

A3 the #prodriven model provides an avenue for teachers to get credit for what they are already doing. It gives us the opportunity to just share the journey #BookCampPD
A3. It could move people out of always planning/working with the same group of people. Mixed grade levels, mixed curriculum areas, groups from different schools/districts/states/countries, & even going solo from time to time. #BookCampPD#ProDriven
A2b: In my role, sometimes it's integration that's the challenge b/c I'm called away for crisis intervention. Personally, I see challenges & huge rewards all around throughout all of the steps! #prodriven#bookcamppd
At the time, it was because I was a disengaged teacher trying to reengage. I continued blogging be wise it forces me to organize my thoughts, and by writing them down I give myself "headspace." It's the best professional practice I have. #BookCampPD#prodriven

In the Professionally Driven model, teams/groups are naturally formed based on the pedagogical goal, not arbitrary grade level or content alike. #ProDriven#BookCampPD
I wish those who feel reluctant could see and feel the all-around benefit of this type of learning. For the adult and S learners! #prodriven#bookcamppd

Our drive is what is going to make or break us in the education world. Why not prepare ourselves because we know what our kids need the most! #prodriven#bookcamppd
Question Four -
Jarod is here this morning to answer any questions you might have about PD as it is one of his passions. What questions do you have for him? #ProDriven#BookCampPD
As a principal, people often commented how much research I would do before discussing possible options for challenges we were facing. I ADORE research! Do you use @Diigo to save items? #BookCampPD
They can and will. I’ve seen some pretty cool journeys happen from even the most “reluctant” educators once they realize the model isn’t just “another thing” but how our learning culture is valued. #ProDriven#BookCampPD
In reply to
@JulieGB7, @tolbertplant, @mjjohnson1216
Exactly. At some schools, however, they are so ingrained to work as grade levels that it would take some doing to get them to see PD another way. #BookCampPD#ProDriven
A3: When PD has variety, is differentiated for ALL learners, is intrinsically motivating, & is not a passive learning activity, it benefits all learners..students & adults! It meets the goals of PD, which is to improve S outcomes & T practices. #prodriven#bookcamppd
I think the beauty of this is that while the common goal is to learn you're working on your own goal you've developed yourself. While we want them to learn our goal doesn't depend on them. Treat them no different than reluctant learners in the clsrm. Add'l support. #BookCampPD

Feel stuck on a journey is usually caused by being uncertain of where you are on your journey. That’s why I emphasize the phases and use recognition pieces to indicate where I am. That physical reminder helps me understand where I am and where I need to go. #ProDriven#BookCampPD
Please take a moment to thank Jarod Bormann @jbormann3 for being here this morning as our guest author!
Your thoughtful tweets are also appreciated! Thank you for being here. #ProDriven#BookCampPD
I'm thinking that it might be pretty empowering to have the space to explore and research within the mandated PD structure. Sometimes my out of school pursuit has disrupted my WL balance #BookCampPD
Next week, Roman Nowak will be our guest moderator discussing #BeingtheChange by @SaraKAhmed
Please jump into our Questions of the Day and other activities during the next two weeks at the #BookCampPD hashtag.
A2: I love to sharing exciting educational findings with others! But it is also the hardest because not everyone wants information delivered to them in my fast paced nature! #bookcamppd#prodriven
