#musedchat Archive
Each Monday evening at 8PM EST, music teachers get together and share ideas about important topics within music education. It’s a great chance to interact directly with educators from all over the world and to get new tips and tricks to help you succeed in the classroom. The entire #musedchat discussion is organized and moderated by Joe Guarr.

-
Hi Sara! hope all is well.
-
First question coming up. We use a Q1/A1 format to help everyone keep track.
-
I know, I'm trying to schedule some posts so I don't have to write for a WHILE! :-) Creating graphics can be fun!
-
Q1: What is the thing you will miss the least during spring break?
-
A1: I won't miss getting further behind on grading and 50 or so emails daily
-
Q1: I won't miss tattles and bathroom break questions!
-
Emails pile up so quickly! Then you have to filter through them to see if any apply to you!
-
A1: listening to playing tests/filling out rubrics.
-
I see 5th graders right after lunch. so many bathroom breaks.
-
I'm Kristen. I teach PK-5 in North Carolina.
-
A1: I will not miss writing passes.
-
A1: students with their hands up but still calling out.
-
Q2: what will you be missing most over spring break?
-
Are middle schoolers so afraid of being tardy that they don't have time to take a bathroom break?
-
-
-
A2: All of the valuable rehearsal time. Plus, I'll be missing my daily weird things ms Ss do story.
-
ooh, leaving ahead of schedule and being psyched to start the day a little earlier but hitting traffic
-
Sorry I'm late to the chat! Aileen from Central Ohio, Music K-5
-
i meant this as going to school in the AM but it works for the PM too doesn't it.
-
Q2: I was on a roll with some difficult concepts- now I'll have to start over again!
-
EVERY TIME!! and when you don’t care, you get there early.
-
Making dramatic exits and entrances are so much more fun.
-
A2: I will miss the smiles and singing voices of my kiddos!
-
A2: the little moments with the Ss. so many small connections w/ Ss or moments of musical success.
-
a MSer life could be ruined if word gets out that they used the bathroom
-
Huh, didn't know that! When I student taught MS, kids would goof off on the way to the bathroom.
-
well yeah, they're middle schoolers. :)
-
Q3: What is your biggest source of dread looming ahead of you for the rest of the year?
-
A2: I'm definitely going to miss the class time, everything has been running so smoothly and I don't want it to stop.
-
A3: I think just making sure I get to everything I want to get to concept-wise...and getting through all my concerts!
-
A3: prepping for a big move. moving to CA - not ready to leave my Ss and colleagues.
-
A3: Keeping everyone focused and engaged with all of the testing coming up in April and May.
-
but I'm more like Brer Rabbit getting thrown into the patch. "Oh, no, please. Not that."
-
That's exactly what I was thinking!
-
Antoine Buttigieg here from Woodbridge Canada HS instrumental music teacher MB and drumline director sorry daddy daycare tonight
-
Q3: I'm a FYT trying to prepare 5th grade for MS. They have to do band, orch, choir, or GM- I hope to give them enough to succeed
-
my students will be more thrown by the weather becoming fantastic again
-
That's coming too. Can't wait...
-
You're welcome, I try to be a good asset to the whole music department and not just my schools :-)
-
there's a lot to cover. Focus on what you are planning to teach them. You'll get it more straightened out later.
-
Right now, I'm trying to cover rhythm terms and counting/subdividing. Eventually I'll cover world music for MS GM.
-
but don't sweat, any skills you've taught them will be appreciated. "ugh, they know how to audiate sol-mi..."
-
A2 I forgot to add possible outdoor classes
-
Glee has ruined the word "regionals" for me entirely.
-
Q4: what is your mantra/life-pro-tip to get you through that final push to the end of the year?
-
A4: I use my mantra from running ultras: “Relentless forward progress”
-
A3: our district is starting enrollment management (aka redistricting so instrumentation …?
-
You made it through Mon. whoa it's Wed! half way through thurs? Practically the weekend!
-
A4: I like to channel Dory: Just keep swimming!
-
A3: 6th graduation, spring concert (and scheduling) 1st gr. musical.
-
A4: building excellence on glorious mistake at a time
-
"Tomorrow is Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday" was my mantra back at the old school.
-
I guess its time has passed, thankfully.
-
Evening everyone. Chip, 6-12 bands, hs choirs in Jackson MI. I'll try to catch up!
-
I really love my school and my students but they can be challenging some days. Esp classes of 29 beg band students.
-
A4: 'Think of how much easier next year will be!' I keep thinking that as I learn new things about myself and my students.
-
A4 coffee lots of coffee. And my vegetables garden that I make with my daughters
-
they're still trying to work out who is louder than who.
-
A4, if the kids can handle all the spring state testing, I can handle the kids!
-
ooh. I drank two cups of coffee on Sunday and ended up cleaning the house. And I never clean.
-
-
I work at a coffee shop on Fri/Sat evenings. SO MUCH COFFEE
-
-
A5: Skipped this one, what are you most looking forward to this year after spring break?
-

So far, we're looking into DePaul since we both live in IL.
-
A5: Ss excitement for literature. We do current/popular music. It is fun to see their excitement for the music.
-
I have heard a lot of great things about that book!
-

-
-
I used to teach Level 1 at DePaul! Decided to take some time off for my family. Janell is awesome!
-
definitely get it! especially if you're worrying about fitting in everything to please the MS music folks.
-
it will certainly help calm you and get a focus for everything. certainly did for me
-
I give some guy a dollar to pour my own at Wawa.
-
Awesome! I'm looking forward to actually learning the method and the sequence instead of guessing.
-
Getting my training was life-changing. You'll love it!
-
That's what I figured- we are WAY behind on rhythm!
-
my Ss in chorus picked some pretty good pop songs, very excited to work with them on it for the concert.
-
grab some books about Music Learning Theory while ur at it then. Have a great one, can't remember title
-
Those of us doing "pop" for spring should do Skype concerts for each other.
-
I'd love to learn more about MLT! If you think of the title please pass it on!
-
I'll look into it, thank you!
