Welcome to #Nt2t! Today’s topic is “Hide and Seek” Questions for today’s chat are here & on individual photo cards. Thanks for sharing your weekend with us!
Chris from Bloomington, IN. Teach world history for private online HS affiliated w/ Indiana University. We are getting flurries so not too bad here. Trying to multichat this morning so we'll see how it goes. #bookcamppd#nt2t
#NT2t Gwena, HS Spanish T from IN. Full disclosure: my favorite place to hide is in the bathroom. It's quiet and dark if I turn out the light. And nobody dares interrupt me there. LOL
Sometimes but I can still recall being about 8 or 9 and hiding under there so well no one knew where I was... I think I may have worried my parents a bit that day #nt2t
Oh, and my most significant roles here are parent and #nt2t team member. Parent of an 8-year-old and an about-to-be teenager! I don't have many places to hide around here. ;)

If you are new to Twitter and/or an undergrad student, each of us would like to welcome you to the most amazing profession and #PLN around. We are so happy to have you here! #NT2t
#nt2t Good morning from friendly Manitoba , Canada. I am gr. 3/4 teacher in a small rural school. Favourite place to hide is the library. Nice and quiet.
A1: I think if I had a classroom account I would want to hide particular words, phrases, usernames, emojis, or hashtags to keep our account safe! #NT2t
A1) Well, let's just say there are certain personal things not everyone needs to hear or see. It's important that we model that line with our kids. #nt2t
A1 You would want to hide your email address from the pubic domain of twitter. Also if you were starting something like a book club where you wanted to restrict numbers hiding would be good there too #NT2t
A1: For class some Ps want their Ss hidden from the public... personally I'd like to hide politics on Twitter... get enough of that everywhere else #nt2t
It’s tough finding that balance on here sometimes. I was people to see me as more than just a teacher, so I like sharing a little bit of personal items. #nt2t
I get that. Personal decision. I do share and address politics here, as I don't wish to separate what I talk about here from what's happening around me. #nt2t
A1 On Twitter and all social media, do not post personally identifiable information, or PII. That includes birth dates, Social Security numbers, travel plans, medical info -- anything bad guys can piece together to do you harm. #NT2t
Hi Pranav from Mumbai, India and not a Teacher. My fav place to hide would be running at the local race course with music on headphones with mobile switched off #NT2t

I agree it is difficult to find the balance. You don't always wanting to be posting about work but I don't think twitter is the place for all social either. #NT2t
Agree. I don't want to come across as an educator "robot." I have a life and family and want to share a good balance of both. This is how we build relationships/friendships here. #NT2t
A2: I love the search bar to find hashtags for topics that interest me. It’s a great way to start lurking on Twitter and slowly join the conversation. #NT2T
A1: I would like to & hide personal pics especially of family & outings and only share it with close friends on social. I prefer not to share exact address and other information like mobile number unless I know the person well enough #NT2t
A2: Let's say I am interested in Project-based learning. I would use the search bar and enter #PBL and see what is being discussed and who is discussing. This will lead me to tweeps to follow. #NT2t
But my followers should know I am about education on here ... i tweet a lot about education ... sometimes politics, but if people let politics get in the way of ed talk than what does that say about you/us? #nt2t

A2 Use the search bar on Twitter to look for people and topics that can broaden your network. Ideally, there are hashtags you could enter to find persons interested in those subjects. #NT2t
This speaks to me sharing my kids' photos as a parent, too. I've asked my older daughter permisison... sometimes. (She already readily shares herself.) Don't usually ask my younger one. This is a good conversation to have. #nt2t
I always ask Ss permission, even if parent is okay with public publication of their children's photographs. Kids feel respected this way. I try to treat them how I would want to be treated.
A2) Hashtags in particular for certain topics. That narrows down a focus on that actual topic, as opposed to just keywords that can be used in a lot of contexts. #nt2t
I agree that it is important to have an opinion and to be able to demonstrate that if we have differences that is ok. Not talking about it is just putting your head in the sand. Politics is difficult though #NT2t
A2: I guess easiest way would be type in relevant words & #s & see what tweets come up and then follow people who tweeted them. Another way would be if you knew any Twtr chats on that topic thn join in on the chat #NT2t
many time my tweets are me just "Twitter thinking" and instead of the voices in my head answering real people respond ... at least i hope they are real ... what if we're all bots? #nt2t

#nt2t I agree. I only tweet about educational stuff - especially maths, which is my subject. If I wanted to make it more personal and really use it as a social platform, I'd have another account.

It is important to ask and check copyright of any pictures they use. Opening your students to the world is great but there are other considerations too. #NT2t
A2 If you think of it that way, Twitter is a great place for primary source materials - to include human sources. The search bar is key to that. Just be sure to apply critical needed source analysis to what you find. #NT2t
All this speaks to personal preference. I talk politics. I don't have expectations of others to address or avoid anything in particular. Making that choice is part of who they are, and social media should be about the freedom to demonstrate who they are. #nt2t

I am Social Studies ... it is my passion so sometimes it is very hard to not talk about politics ... more about the discourse than "I'm right, you're wrong" at least from my perspective. #nt2t

A3: Mute tip - To stop receiving notifications for a convo, you can choose to mute it. When you mute a conversation, you won’t get any new notifications about that conversation. You will see Tweets from the convo in your timeline & when you click into the original Tweet. #NT2t
A3 Don't be afraid to mute someone who is abusive, offensive, rude or just because. You're free to interact or not with whomever you chose at any time. #NT2t
A3: A little more about muting: Muting will remove Tweets from your Notifications tab, push notifications, SMS, email notifications, Home timeline, and from replies to Tweets. #NT2t
A2: Searching for #hashtags or handles of people already in your #PLN. With @TweetDeck create and search lists which helps in organizing your PLN #nt2t

Yesterday was PJ Day around the state to benefit a children's hospital, and it was interesting to see one school post a big group photo with a couple of kids' faces blurred out. Someone has to pay close attention to every individual permission! #nt2t

the great thing about Twitter ... you can turn off the negativity. I wish there was a real life mute button. Could use it during some staff meetings. #nt2t
This is a good tip! Sometimes you can get overwhelmed so muting is good. I sometimes worry that when I am on a twitter chat that I am filling someones feed up. They should mute me then but not to forget to un-muet too #NT2t
Yes, if you are interested in ESL, just search for #ESL in the search bar and see who is using the # and what is being discussed. Check out the ppl using the # for possible follows. #NT2t
Solution to me blowing up someone's twitter feed ... follow more people so it is not just me there. #nt2t this is my learning area ... sorry , not sorry.
#NT2t I didn't know hashtags when I first started so I just searched the whole words to find the hashtags. Then the hashtags led led to chats and people. I specifically looked for moderators to follow.

Great tip! The more you follow the more choice of conversation. I worry less about these thing these days. If they don't like it let me unfollow me :) #NT2t
We're modeling good digital citizenship right now, showing our respectful selves. I don't really hide anything here... it helps that I'm not one to swear in person either! #digcit#nt2t
If you're looking for chat moderators, check out my Social Media Experts list. I started with social media pros and expanded it to include chat moderators I often interact with. #NT2t
Sometimes people I follow chat about say their state ed system for a state I don't live in... may not want to see all those tweets (especially if multiple ppl I follow are from same state and tweeting). #nt2t
A4: That‘s a good possibility to search for different media under this hashtag. You will find post from people used the # or photos posted with this hashtag. Great option for specific search. #nt2t
#Nt2t that's how I got here. I had to join a Twitter chat for and assignment in my current MA course. I liked it so much, I decided to stay. Much different that the impression I had of Twitter from the media.
A4) Different forms of what you're searching for. "Top" shares only the most popular posts (those retweeted/liked most often); "Latest" shares all related posts with the most recent on top. #nt2t
Ha.. I'm sure they didn't. And the mute button is one that is personal preference.... I hardly ever have used it but it is nice to know it is there when needed :) #nt2t
#NT2t I have to say, I've been doing Twitter chats off and on for probably close to 2 years now. Some chats are full of participants who come across as extremely arrogant and non-interactive. This one is supportive, encouraging, respectful, and helpful.
Well we appreciate that Gwena and it is one of our goals, to welcome educators to Twitter and our profession; to get us connected so we can learn from/with one another #NT2t
Ugh. That doesn't sound fun at all. I have found education related chats to generally be quite positive. Occasionally, there are some bad apples but they tend to be outnumbered by supportive folks, thankfully. #nt2t
Yeah, I don't think it's necessary to worry about "clogging" a feed with chats. To me chats are the most valuable part. The main point of being here is to be social. #nt2t
Sometimes the "top" can provide you with a summary-like recap of the chat. I might look at it but feel like I will miss too much if that is the only thing I look at. #NT2t
the great thing about Twitter ... you can turn off the negativity. I wish there was a real life mute button. Could use it during some staff meetings. #nt2t
A1: Since we live in the age of social media where we are constantly sharing our personal lives, we sometimes may need to censor our content. Posting pictures of students without parent permission is an example of "hiding" that may be necessary #nt2t
A5) Basically, if you block someone you don't see anything from them and I think it keeps them from seeing you. I've blocked a few accounts that have followed me b/c they seem sketchy. Also block spammers. #nt2t
A3) One more thing about this: Muting often has nothing to do with something negative. You're just trying to focus on something else for the moment. #nt2t
A5: About blocking: Blocking an account you are currently following will cause you to unfollow that account (and them to unfollow you). If you decide to unblock that account, you will have to follow that account again. #NT2t
A2: connecting with local educators and organizations will keep me up to date with how to expand the way I think about education. New ideas always emerge through social media networking. Having a professional twitter account will open my eyes to this new world #nt2t
A5: If you block an account and they choose to report your account, any of your Tweets that directly mention them will be available for them to view and attach during the reporting process. #NT2t
A3: I have yet to use the mute feature. I would find this helpful with specific accounts that have constant chatter and notifications. To limit the notifications on my timeline, I can see how this feature can be useful. #nt2t
Well, I follow so many, and some (including me) don't always use the best judgment. I'm understanding. But if they're hateful, sure, no place for that. #nt2t
A5: I learned this when researching the block option: Blocking only works if the accnt you’ve blocked is logged in on Twittr. For example, if the account you’ve blocked isn't logged in or is accessing Twittr content via third party, they may be able to see ur public Tweets. #NT2t
And I thank you. Man, in these times, if we can't turn to the people who teach this stuff...
I see teachers as serving a role far beyond the classroom. #nt2t
A4: I found it a bit difficult at first to locate tweets that are the most recent through the search bar tab. I learned that by clicking on the "latest" button, tweets would present through a chain of the most recently posted. #nt2t
A5: blocking someone on twitter, by my assumption, would be the same as blocking on any other social media platform. By blocking the person they cannot see the content on your profile. #nt2t
#nt2t A5. It's good to have a look at the tweet output of people who follow you, not just glance their profile. Ask yourself, Why are they following me? What do they have in common? I always wonder what some people could do with my tweets. Block them.
I usually participate in chats on my computer (Tweetdeck) but definitely find the "latest" column on Twitter helpful when I'm attending a conference & want to see what's going on in other sessions, updates, etc. #nt2t

Tweetdeck is a brilliant tool to keep up with twitter chats. You can see your notifications and watch the latest tweets. Made following chats so much easier. #NT2t
A6: I had to explore the option of advanced searching through the search tab, and discovered the "search filters" option. This option narrows down who, where, and the preferred language of your search. #nt2t
You can unfollow people, but they can still follow or track you. Blocking them makes you invisible to them -- unless as @shyj says, they use third-party software. Then go back to writing letters. #NT2t

#Nt2t oh it's not that I don't talk about politics. It's that it's in every other part of my life, it seems. I'd personally prefer to focus on professional growth and learning. But I never have and never will block or unfollow someone because of their politics.
