Welcome to #flipclasschat -- introduce yourself, subject, level, yrs flipping. As teachers we ‘borrow’ a lot of goodies. What borrowed holiday tradition is your favorite? #flipclass
Hi all! My name is Dana! This is my first ever Twitter chat. I am currently a junior/senior in college, majoring in Agricultural Education. I hope I am not intruding on you chat seeing I am not a current teacher. Just wanting to learn more about #flipclass! #uwpsoe2010
Tonight we’re talking about more #flipclass myths, limiting practices by the definition of flipping. Our sources are blog posts by Matthew Moore. Our main chat will be in #flipclasschat. We use a Q1/A1 format. Please include A’s and the hashtag in your responses to Q’s
Q1 Most #flipclass teachers start with trading the teach pieces with homework, sending a video home and filling class time with what would usually be homework. Does this describe you? Where are you now in your flipped journey? #flipclasschat
A1: I started my journey by requiring Ss to all watch the same video on the same night. I've transitioned to a moderately "self-paced" environment where I will set the test date and then Ss work their way through the material at a pace they determine #flipclass#flipclasschat
A1 pt 2: I feel like I've said it 1000 times by now but I would love to eventually transition to a mastery system. Hoping to be able to test that out 2nd semester #flipclass#flipclasschat
Hi everyone! Sorry I'm late, I'm a Sophomore studying Elementary Education at University of Wisconsin-Platteville. I'm excited to learn more from you all! #flipclass#uwpsoe2010
Hello! I am going to be participating in my first educational twitter chat hosted by @lanier_katiesue . Really interesting topic and super excited! #flipclass#uwpsoe2010
A1 my first attemp at #flipclass matched the video for hw/ hw for class until I beefed up the class activities. Fixing a broken system so the only way was up for many Ss. #flipclasschat
Great question. Yes, it is the expectation that a S would get through the material before the test. If the test day comes and they are behind pace then that will naturally impact their test score. #flipclass#flipclasschat
Extending Dana's question, can you accommodate students' different learning styles when assigning work at the beginning? How easy is it to adjust difficulty or method of teaching depending on the student without making it unfair to others? #flipclasschat#flipclass#uwpsoe2010
Hello, a little late but happy to be here, I am a freshman at the University of Wisconsin Platteville studying elementary education. I have not yet been exposed to a classroom and I have just learned what it means to flip a classroom! interesting concept! #flipclass#uwpsoe2010
The biggest thing with accommodations is being able to provide more support to the Ss that need it. By not being stuck at the front of the room, I have the whole class period to move around the room and help Ss at their level when they are struggling #flipclass#flipclasschat

Thank you for the clarification! I love the idea of letting kids work at their own pace, it is so important that we acknowledge our students' differences! #flipclass#flipclasschat#uwpsoe2010

A1: I think sending a video home and doing the work in class is a lot more productive for student and the teacher, Less distractions in the classroom. I have not yet started my teaching journey but class flipping is something to think about doing. #flipclass#uwpsoe2010
A3: The only "homework" S will have in my class is if they didn't finish something we were working on in class. With my precalc Ss they have freedom to watch videos when they want and work when they want. With my geometry classes I do more of an in-flip #flipclass#flipclasschat
A3, P1: As a current student, I often find that watching a video lesson is enough "homework". Often times, if assigned more, students simply write/copy the answers instead of truly investigating and learning about the topic. #flipclasschat#flipclass#uwpsoe2010
A3, P2: Doing work in class is much more productive in my opinion, as students are often distracted and unmotivated outside of the classroom. I personally am more motivated in class if I didn't spend hours doing its homework the night before. #flipclasschat#flipclass#uwpsoe2010
Q4 Changing the idea of homework at school to practice in class opens opportunities for a variety of activities. What are your go to practice activities? #flipclass#flipclasschat
This is so interesting! Because I'm still in school I haven't had the chance to see a #flipclass in action. I love that you are able to more specifically work with students to meet their needs. Thank you! #uwpsoe2010

but yes there are Ss that will procrastinate and then end up putting more pressure on themselves when they try to get caught up last minute because they haven't been using their time wisely #flipclass#flipclasschat
Well, traditional HW was "p.22:2-222 even" Now practice is other scavenger hunts, task cards, Google Forms, anything else self-checking that Ss find more tolerable than book work. #flipclasschat
Q5 What limitations do you need to move beyond in your #flipclass? What can you do this semester or plan for next semester to accomplish this? #flipclasschat
#flipclass is not a "silver-bullet" to fix all the issues you will run into in a typical classroom, but it gives you more time to work 1-on-1 with the Ss, provide support, and build relationships #flipclasschat
