A1 I haven't had the chance to read the book from @OnStageKimberly yet but BRAVE to me is one who can be:
B - Bold
R - Resilient
A - An Upstander
V - Vulnerable
E - Empathetic
#NYEDChat
This is how you can tell that we are trending early on Twitter.: when I can't keep up with the tweets. Good job everyone thanks to the arduous prep work @OnStageKimberly put into crafting the questions. #NYEDChat
A1 Defining BRAVE is so personal to each and every person. I love that there is no one definition and that we all can see it through our own lens (as it should be) #NYEDChat
A1: To me, #brave means being and bringing my best, most confident, authentic and powerful self to whatever situation I face. Inherent is that is constructive action and full responsibility. #nyedchat
Q1/A1 - Brave means everyday coming to greet the most awesome students in the world. Bringing learning and happiness, even when it’s easier to just be okay. #NYEDChat
A1: BRAVE means taking risks, not worrying about making mistakes, being vulnerable, and as a leader, sharing that responsibility with others around you #NYEDChat
A1- Brave- doing a twitter chat hiding in the basement during bath time... JK. ...Doing the right thing for kids no matter what. ...Advocating against all odds. ...Being a voice for the unspoken for. #NYEDChat
A1 Brave to me, is about allowing room for failure and improving based on that failure. It is also about having the confidence in yourself that you are capable of ANYTHING. #nyedchat
A1 Brave means doing what’sright for my kids even when I know I’m going to receive push back. I know what’s best for my kiddos I have to be brave to fight for them #nyedchat
A1: Being #brave means pushing yourself beyond your perceived limiting beliefs, shift the old paradigms and #embrace every aspect of yourself. #NYEDChat
A1 Melissa 7th grade Science from Upstate NY coming in late.
Brave to me means doing something that is outside your comfort zone, because you know the end will make it worth it. #NYEDChat
A1 BRAVE to me is staying true to yourself as this is harder than ever in this day and age. I MUST hold tight to my values even when there are so many dissenting voice. #NYEDChat
A1: Brave is doing what is right, even when it is uncomfortable. Sometimes you have to be willing to stand alone when standing up for what you believe in. #NYEDChat
Karen elementaryprincipal Long Beach NY Q1 BRAVE is going to work every day, hoping for the best, prepared for the worst and knowing you do the best you can for everyone #NYEDChat
Being brave could involve not ALWAYS being positive. I think it involves always making sure we do what it takes to not stay non positive for too long. It won't always be good....but it will be worth it! #NYEDChat
A1 I am glad that you focus on authenticity Kimberly. It is key that we are always true to ourselves despite any challenges that may come oour way. #NYEDChat
A1 Being BRAVE is not about seeking perfection but being our best selves in any given situation. Brave isn't a competition but a process of exploration that never ends - a BRAVE JOURNEY! #NYEDChat
A 2 By increasing my BRAVE, I take more risks knowing that i can learn from any mistakes. See for our students—Brave helps you see failure as good information. #NYEDCHat

A1 yes,Dennis with each step we can let our voice become stronger as we own our brave but then there are times when we need to reflect and lean on others to get back on track. #NYEDChat
A2 Increasing my BRAVE can help me gain confidence, find my voice, my core beliefs, and my tribe. Ultimately this makes me a better person and leader, both in and out of the classroom. It will is likely to have a positive impact and wide reach. #NYEDChat
A2 By not being afraid to TRY new things. It will allow you to take risks where those same risks can be your reasons why you become successful. #nyedchat
A1. Brave for me was following my heart, taking a risk, and becoming a lead learner to make a difference and make positive change. Being transparent and engaged.
A2: Increasing my #brave would help me make the impact I want to have on others and the world, keep me engaged, increase my confidence, and improve my results. #NYEDChat
This is how you can tell that we are trending early on Twitter.: when I can't keep up with the tweets. Good job everyone thanks to the arduous prep work @OnStageKimberly put into crafting the questions. #NYEDChat
A2 You have to take risks to move forward in life. If you stay safe and don't take chances, you won't know what could have been if you had just taken the leap. I wouldn't have my dream job if I hadn't been brave and taken a leap of faith #NYEDChat
A1 Brave is a relentless desire to see my students grow in spite of it all. Being "brave" these days is necessary, it's gas for my teacher tank. #nyedchat
A2 Confidence is a universal struggle. We each have that very unkind inner voices that tries to thwart our brave. I'm working on that as I know it would change the outcome dramatically! #NYEDChat
A2: Increasing my BRAVE can make me less fearful of having difficult conversations; be willing to take greater risks and not settle for the status quo for myself. #NYEDChat
A2: by increasing my BRAVE, I can give the schools and districts I work with the voice of #teachers and their #students when communication goes awry - putting kids at the forefront #NYEDChat
It is fascinating to see so much abstract art. With budget cuts, many students are not getting the exposure to art that they should be. I was disappointed that the local school is not even able to take trips to museums to supplement their learning. #GEN2108
Hi, Jackie so glad that you did join in tonight. I was following you all along. When we follow our heart our voice becomes the conduit for what is inside. #NYEDChat
A2 New experiences are crucial. I strive to push myself to be brave in my professional practice. #grit and #growthmindset weren't taught to me - gotta practice. So glad to teach to and model for students now. #nyedchat
A1 Brave is a relentless desire to see my students grow in spite of it all. Being "brave" these days is necessary, it's gas for my teacher tank. #nyedchat
I love that Laura. It doesn’t take much courage to ignore them and just teach to an agenda. Kids are always talking to us and we need to listen and follow their lead ❤️ #NYEDchat
A2 You have to take risks to move forward in life. If you stay safe and don't take chances, you won't know what could have been if you had just taken the leap. I wouldn't have my dream job if I hadn't been brave and taken a leap of faith #NYEDChat
A2 Increase my confidence stands out in your response Kimberly. Those who are not afraid to fall let their voice rise and in doing so become stronger advocates for self onthe journey. #NYEDChat
A2 I believe in collegial brave. I NEED other people in my corner and I need to be in theirs. They are a hefty dose of collective B-12 and it keeps me moving toward BRAVE when energy wanes. #NYEDChat
A2: When you become increasingly brave and take risks, you reap greater rewards and satisfaction in knowing you allowed yourself to be vulnerable in order to accomplish a goal. #NYEDChat
Here, here, @DrMaryHoward - AND it's critical that we do define it and find a definition that supports us moving forward when the stakes are high and we're feeling vulnerable, instead of stopping us in our tracks. #NYEDChat
A1 Defining BRAVE is so personal to each and every person. I love that there is no one definition and that we all can see it through our own lens (as it should be) #NYEDChat
Faige sub teacher in Los Angeles Right now brave to me is saying yes to subbing at different grade levels. Toddlers to 3rd. Interesting ride I’m on. #NYEDChat
A2 Confidence is a universal struggle. We each have that very unkind inner voices that tries to thwart our brave. I'm working on that as I know it would change the outcome dramatically! #NYEDChat

Joining late from Connecticut.
A2) Without knowing the elements of “BRAVE”... being brave allows us to move forward and not be caught in the fear that holds us back. #nyedchat
A2 My brave is all about relationships. I don't ever want to sacrifice those no matter how much brave I am trying to muster. It's not just about me but those around me as well #NYEDChat
A2: Increasing my BRAVE can make me less fearful of having difficult conversations; be willing to take greater risks and not settle for the status quo for myself. #NYEDChat
A3 I know it sounds very strange but fear sometimes keeps me from owning my brave (yes I know it seems a little counter-productive doesn't it?). Resolving that! #NYEDChat
A3: I am my own worst enemy! When I focus on myself (what might happen to me, what others think about me, how I feel, etc.) my #brave totally jumps ship! #NYEDChat
A3 Fear. By definition it can be intimidating. Brave: (adjective) ready to face and endure danger or pain; showing courage. Often times we end up owning our BRAVE because we don't have a choice. What might get in the way is if we have a choice to avoid/escape. #NYEDChat
Q3/A3 - The evaluation process and the belief that grades tell the whole story. Nothing can stop teaching like seeing students disinterested and compliant. #NYEDChat
We are teachers ... we are BRAVE ... we just spend to much time questioning our selves.. Seriously, who else is going to be brave enough to walk into a classroom full of kids armed only with knowledge and love. #nyedchat
A3 I certainly understand what you are saying. I phrased it as doubts that enter my head. We need to encourage ourself to rid the little gremlin fears and doubts so that we can stand tall and own our brave. #NYEDChat
A2. I'm rereading "Who Moved My Cheese." George Porter asked, “What would you do if you were not afraid?” I was terrified when my school district switched to Microsoft but now I anticipate change. #nyedchat
A3: Vampires both the ones from movies b/c they are scary and the ones that suck out your energy and confidence. I cut those people out and it is so much better. Also our own self image can be a blockade to for BRAVE #nyedchat
A1) Not letting anything hang over me. DO the things I need to, to build trust and fulfill my role, and DO what I’ve always wanted to do, to grow as a person and contribute something greater. #nyedchat
The fear of loosing. Losing credibility, losing my job, losing momentum, losing out on opportunities and the lost of time if what I attempt to achieve doesn’t work out. #NYEDChat
A3 Sometimes I worry that I'm not brave at all but I look at my life and I realize deep down (like deep deep down) that I truly am. I need to own THAT. #NYEDChat
A3 Fear keeps me from owning my #brave Also, trying to find that balance between guiding others to find their own truth vs. pushing my own agendas. #nyedchat
A2 New experiences are crucial. I strive to push myself to be brave in my professional practice. #grit and #growthmindset weren't taught to me - gotta practice. So glad to teach to and model for students now. #nyedchat
The fear of loosing. Losing credibility, losing my job, losing momentum, losing out on opportunities and the lost of time if what I attempt to achieve doesn’t work out. #NYEDChat
A3 I know what enriches, elevates and empower my brave - people! I need people in my life to celebrate and inspire my brave. I love my friends! #NYEDChat
Yes, @cvarsalona as we learn that we can count on ourselves (confidence) we are able to make a bigger impact and aren't afraid to our voice. #Brave#NYEDChat
A2 Increase my confidence stands out in your response Kimberly. Those who are not afraid to fall let their voice rise and in doing so become stronger advocates for self onthe journey. #NYEDChat
A4: I reflect quite a bit...sometimes too much. I also ask for feedback frequently. I feel like I need the reassurance to feel comfortable enough to make the tough decisions sometimes. #NYEDChat
A4 Jump in w/ two feet and be OK with it. Realize missed opportunities to be BRAVE. Don't ALWAYS be quick to act. If possible, listen, learn, & trust yourself/others. Sometimes this wait time can be just what is needed to make sense of the WHY which can fuel the BRAVE. #NYEDChat
A4: Focusing on taking purposeful action outside myself - what I call focusing on my #SuperObjective – is my best strategy to be #brave (that, and remembering to breathe, get present, and remove tension!)
#BraveLeadership#BraveMovement#NYEDChat
A4 Using my strengths to take action. Remembering my strengths. Keeping in mind that my strengths don't need to be the same as others. Be #brave#nyedchat
Brave are the men and women of the @FDNY putting safety of others ahead of their own. After their fellow brothers were injured, they still continued to battle this inferno #nyedchat
FDNY crews in Brooklyn NY were injured overnight battling a fire inside a brownstone apartment. Facade from the building came crashing down onto firefighters on the front steps.
FDNY says the firefighters were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A2 I believe in collegial brave. I NEED other people in my corner and I need to be in theirs. They are a hefty dose of collective B-12 and it keeps me moving toward BRAVE when energy wanes. #NYEDChat
A5 Pro/Con List, Talk to my husband or team to get some feedback and then jump if it seems right. If you ponder too long, the jump gets harder and more scary. #NYEDChat
A4 Definitely surrounding myself with amazing friends. I have the best "good people radar” of anyone I know and I am always grateful for their support and friendship! ❤️ #NYEDchat

A4: I remind myself that I am not who I am because of what I do. I do what I do because of who I am. My failures refine me but they do not define me. #nyedchat
A2: When you become increasingly brave and take risks, you reap greater rewards and satisfaction in knowing you allowed yourself to be vulnerable in order to accomplish a goal. #NYEDChat
A5 Pro/Con List, Talk to my husband or team to get some feedback and then jump if it seems right. If you ponder too long, the jump gets harder and more scary. #NYEDChat
A4 Maybe it’s not a strategy but I find that I’ve given myself permission that I will sometimes meet a brave roadblock but I’ve learned that I can tackle it! #NYEdchat
A4 I get the courage to be BRAVE from those around me- my wonderful support team of faculty/staff, Ss and parents. I feel their power and, in turn, they give me the power to help me be my best self #NYEDChat#BRAVE
The way I look at #brave, @cvarsalona it requires that you're actually focused outside yourself to achieve purpose. It cannot be self-related. #NYEDChat
A4- Reminding myself why I do what I do- for the students. I know it’s cliche but it’s why I got into education and why I stay! When you put a child’s face to anything- suddenly nothing is impossible- but it often requires me to be #BRAVE. #NYEDChat
Me too, but I try to push my comfort zone. I am a dip my toe in the pool and take 10 minutes to get in. My brother just jumps in. I admire him for that. #NYEDChat
A4 I’ve learned that sometimes you can’t rush BRAVE - I have learned to savor the journey even more than the destination - and sometimes the journey is rocky. I’m ok with that! #NYEdchat
BRILLIANT strategy, @cvarsalona - people vastly underestimate the power of breath. It's key to keeping our amygdala in check so we can show up more authentically and powerfully - #BRAVE#NYEDChat
A5 At the end of the day, I want to do right by kids. Stand for kids. Kids of all kinds and needs. They become my why since I was once the why of another. #nyedchat
A 5 It’s important to me that my students improve, are able to be honest with me and express their fears and concerns. I need to listen, reflect, and process to help others and have positive relationships. #NYEDChat
Q5: Kimberly believes that the key to #brave is a focus on impact outside ourselves (purpose). What is the impact you want to have outside yourself (on your students, community, education, the world, etc.)? #NYEDChat
A3: I am my own worst enemy! When I focus on myself (what might happen to me, what others think about me, how I feel, etc.) my #brave totally jumps ship! #NYEDChat
Yoga has been a great teacher in my journey to find my greatness - breathing is a way to slow down the fragmented feelings and concentrate on the moment. #NYEDChat
A5 Great way to look at this @OnStageKimberly. I will think global and act local here. My goal is to have impact on the @GlobalGoalsUN. Getting involved locally w/ projects integrating #TeachSDGs in the classroom empowers Ss. Volunteered to help #ProjectKakuma globally. #NYEDChat
A4: I reflect quite a bit...sometimes too much. I also ask for feedback frequently. I feel like I need the reassurance to feel comfortable enough to make the tough decisions sometimes. #NYEDChat

A5 I don’t even have to hesitate to answer that question. I want to be a cheerleader for as many as I can. I’m pretty good at it since I think maybe I was born with inner pom poms. #NYEDchat
A5 I want to affect adults I teach and all I interact with through #positivity, staying grounded, and being purposeful so that I can become a #differencemaker. #NYEDChat
A5: I want others to know I do what I do for them. Always there to support teachers, students, parents. I never look for the pat on the back...just want teaching and learning to occur in the best possible way, in the best possible climate, with the best possible tools #NYEDChat
Q5: Kimberly believes that the key to #brave is a focus on impact outside ourselves (purpose). What is the impact you want to have outside yourself (on your students, community, education, the world, etc.)? #NYEDChat
#NYEDChat A5 I want to challenge the lack of caring, respect and empathy being shown in our country today. I want to challenge people to see humanity over labels and social status. #BraveLeadership
A4 Using my strengths to take action. Remembering my strengths. Keeping in mind that my strengths don't need to be the same as others. Be #brave#nyedchat
Q5: Kimberly believes that the key to #brave is a focus on impact outside ourselves (purpose). What is the impact you want to have outside yourself (on your students, community, education, the world, etc.)? #NYEDChat
A5: To help each child find his or her brave by helping them recognize their talents, gifts, and contributions. Giving students a voice, instilling a love for reading, and cultivating a culture of lifelong learning! #NYEDChat
Q5: Kimberly believes that the key to #brave is a focus on impact outside ourselves (purpose). What is the impact you want to have outside yourself (on your students, community, education, the world, etc.)? #NYEDChat
A5 I think one of my biggest goals is to be a model for kindness. Comes to think of it I’m pretty great at being kind to others but sometimes fall short being kind to myself #NYEDchat
A5 I want to share what I’ve learned, what I continue to learn with people I engage with either f2f or online/social media/twitter/FB. If my words impact others to #bebrave to #care well that’s a good road I’ve traveled. #NYEDChat
A5: My brave focus is to let everyone know that they can be leaders. Leadership isn't a career skill to be taught in business school, it's a life skill to teach to kids. #LeadershipIsLife#nyedchat
A4 Definitely surrounding myself with amazing friends. I have the best "good people radar” of anyone I know and I am always grateful for their support and friendship! ❤️ #NYEDchat
It begins with clarity of purpose - the impact you want to have (what I call your #SuperObjective). Once you're clear, you can use that as a guidepost for opportunities, @jeremydbond#NYEDChat
#NYEDChat
A5- My goal is to push everyone to be their best self, to be better than they were the day before, as learners, teachers, colleagues, and citizens. #NYEDChat
Q5: Kimberly believes that the key to #brave is a focus on impact outside ourselves (purpose). What is the impact you want to have outside yourself (on your students, community, education, the world, etc.)? #NYEDChat
A5) For my own children, I want to be an active parent in building the learning environment in which they're growing up -- through promoting engagement in education and other issues, and demonstrating commitment to causes and the rights of others. #nyedchat
Q5: Kimberly believes that the key to #brave is a focus on impact outside ourselves (purpose). What is the impact you want to have outside yourself (on your students, community, education, the world, etc.)? #NYEDChat
A5 The children are always the focus. By being BRAVE, I hope it lets them see it’s okay to be true to their own selves going forward as social, emotional and intelligent beings. #NYEDChat#BRAVE
A5: My brave focus is to let everyone know that they can be leaders. Leadership isn't a career skill to be taught in business school, it's a life skill to teach to kids. #LeadershipIsLife#nyedchat
#nyedchat A5 I want people to see that others are experiencing the same feelings they are having right now. That someone understands exactly how they feel, and they are home. Accepted. Loved. Appreciated. Broken or whole. Together.
A5 At the end of the day, I want to do right by kids. Stand for kids. Kids of all kinds and needs. They become my why since I was once the why of another. #nyedchat
A5 I want to transform education- education should be deeply personal and students should get what they need when they need it and they should have teachers that will stop and nothing to make it happen #nyedchat
A5 I don’t even have to hesitate to answer that question. I want to be a cheerleader for as many as I can. I’m pretty good at it since I think maybe I was born with inner pom poms. #NYEDchat
A4 Definitely surrounding myself with amazing friends. I have the best "good people radar” of anyone I know and I am always grateful for their support and friendship! ❤️ #NYEDchat
Great questions, Jeremy. If an opportunity is missed, depending on what it is, you might not be able to make it up but you can adjust how you handle it in the future. I think we don't always know the right time to jump. And that's OK too. Part of learning I guess. #NYEDChat
Reflection: I’m going to begin working on developing the #BraveLeadership on-line program to increase my ability to achieve my #SuperObjective (to connect people to the best of who they are)! #NYEDChat
Reflection: I will be a guest on @edu_match Live this Saturday. In the past I would've found a way to talk myself out of putting myself out there. BRAVE leadership means sharing your story, being open and honest, letting others in so we can learn together and grow. #NYEDChat
Reflaction: This week, I can let #positivity influence my work load, personal connections, and be in the moment to give my full attention to others. As @OnStageKimberly says "#Believe that our best lies in being more of who we really are ->not less<-. #NYEDChat
A5 I want to affect adults I teach and all I interact with through #positivity, staying grounded, and being purposeful so that I can become a #differencemaker. #NYEDChat
#nyedchat A5 I want people to see that others are experiencing the same feelings they are having right now. That someone understands exactly how they feel, and they are home. Accepted. Loved. Appreciated. Broken or whole. Together.

So great. It's understandable in certain professions, certainly education, that people may define themselves by their jobs. But it's themselves, what they bring to a job, that defines who they are. And even that is only part of their interests, talents, and motivations. #nyedchat
A4: I remind myself that I am not who I am because of what I do. I do what I do because of who I am. My failures refine me but they do not define me. #nyedchat
A5 I have been in toxic environments and know the value of #positivity. Being Positive is the right path for me but sometimes the walk is tough. That is where owning my brave is so important. Be in the moment - authentic -positive #nyedchat
I want students, families, schools and communities to be recognize/appreciatev their uniqueness. I think what makes us different often times makes us feel different resulting in us believing that our differences are our weaknesses instead of solutions to people’s needs. #NYEDChat
Reflaction: This week, I can let #positivity influence my work load, personal connections, and be in the moment to give my full attention to others. As @OnStageKimberly says "#Believe that our best lies in being more of who we really are ->not less<-. #NYEDChat
Oh my gosh, @tomj_rhodes I'm covered in #goosebumps! "To challenge people to see humanity over labels and social status" is an extraordinarily powerful #SuperObjective (and goodness knows we need the difference that you can make!)! #NYEDChat
#NYEDChat A5 I want to challenge the lack of caring, respect and empathy being shown in our country today. I want to challenge people to see humanity over labels and social status. #BraveLeadership
After climbing Mt. Everest Brent Bishop received the following message from Lute Jerstad, who earlier climbed Everest with Brent's father - "Now you erase the word can't from your vocabulary." I will erase the word as well. #nyedchat
Wow, couldn't agree more! What a difference it would make in the workplace, community -- everywhere really -- if kids learned #leadership as a life skill. As you said, #LeadershipIsLife#nyedchat
Reflection: As I sub in different classrooms my goal is to watch, listen, interact with the kids and teachers. To support all our learning and to share in the #joy we experience. #NYEDChat
I can bring my art into venues where controversey spawns conversations. I can coax deeper dialogue. I can see when I am wrong and know this is ok, that my failures take me one step closer to success and understanding. I can make joy contagious. #nyedchat
#nyedchat A5 I want people to see that others are experiencing the same feelings they are having right now. That someone understands exactly how they feel, and they are home. Accepted. Loved. Appreciated. Broken or whole. Together.
Reflection-don’t hesitate in trying new ideas, bringing forth new strategies or techniques, facing new challenges without doubt and thinking out of the box! #NYEDchat#BRAVE
Reflect: I can be #brave this week by being more #vulnerable and transparent - with my teachers and students. Welcome feedback. Also, lead great teacher PD right when we get back from winter break! #BrightAndEarly#nyedchat
Q5: Kimberly believes that the key to #brave is a focus on impact outside ourselves (purpose). What is the impact you want to have outside yourself (on your students, community, education, the world, etc.)? #NYEDChat
Now that is a notable goal to reach out and find support from friends. I can say that you have been giving me great support as a reader of my posts. I truly appreciate that, Mary. Validation is always key. #nyedchat
Thank you to all of the #NYEDChat participants for sharing your voices with our #PLN tonight! Return to raise your voice with us in 2 more weeks. March 19th
A6- Recognize and acknowlege when I know someone else is being #BRAVE. That’s a two-for-one! Fill someone else’s bucket and add to your own as a result. #NYEDChat
Isn't it an awesome cycle, @jeremydbond - in building others we build ourselves - but we only truly acccess it by focusing on others. The rest is a byproduct. #NYEDChat
That’s in my profile too Lemarr. I don’t know that I could survive a day without learning. It’s what makes me jump out of bed eager to find what little tidbit is waiting for me. I love it! #NYEdchat

So true @LemarrTreadwell I think it is the corner stone. Being brave enough to admit you don’t know it all, you’re not the expert and that you have more to learn!!!!
Thank you so much Kimberly Carol and Dennis! I’m feeling braver just being around this wonderful group Kimberly what a blessing to be with you again in a chat ❤️ @OnStageKimberly@cvarsalona@schug_dennis#NYEdchat
...and I am inspired by what you were able to accomplish in such a short time Kimberly. Many Thanks to you for an amazing effort you put into making Twitter magic at #nyedchat tonight!
