#K12ArtChat is an #ArtsEd chat that happens every Thurs 8:30 pm CST founded by #TeamGrundler @ArtGuy76 & @GrundlerArt & share Ss' art on Fridays via #FabArtsFri.
Art at my school @MooreMagnetES has brought celebration among the staff! This is in our conference room ... teachers write kind notes on leaf shaped paper to each other and stick them on the tree. This is my talented art teacher designing the tree. #K12artchat#LimitlessSchool
A3 love 2 collab. w/ts. Great way 2 develop holistic units that help children apply creativity to life, not just 1 specific discipline. Creativity is @ making connections. @mattdematteis an amazing teacher I have been fortunate to work with on projects 4 past 12yrs. #k12artchat
A1 School culture sure is tricky! We hosted a program through @NJEA that brought @MightyFingers to our school. Ss explored and expressed their thoughts about ways they could improve the community. #K12ArtChat
A1. My school embraces child art as is! We want Ss have their own ideas and my staff understands that means the art will be childrens aesthetic. #k12artchat
A1: Solving our school culture has been too hard for the art room to solve, but I’m working on it. Our culture is one with a lot of apathy and it’s going to take more than 4 years for me to change that. It takes a village! #k12artchat
My school uses a community art project as an important way for students to share their stories. They are encouraged to use an art form that they are comfortable with. We see diverse stories from all over the world. #K12ArtChat
A1: We hosted a "hidden talents" art show at the beginning of the year. Show open to any staff member, and we had an opening reception for all participants. Was really fun and awesome to see art work from across the district
#K12ArtChat
A1: our awesome art teachers are allowing students to shine via voluntary collaborative exhibits at the admin building - this one done by @EvansArtHouse@skaggsart@TNewsome1#k12ArtChat
A1:
Created hands on PD where the ts learn by doing.
Enjoyed the play foam challenge where all ya got to vote on a winning sculpture.
Shared my art supplies & tech knowledge!
#k12artchat
A1 Art gives the Ss an outlet to create & share; we’ve had S initiated fundraisers come about through art to support art; signs of encouragement hidden throughout the building; creating for others #k12artchat
A1: One great about Art and other specials in my level (elem) the entire school comes through my room so I have had numerous opportunities for collaborative work involving the whole school giving students ownership of their learning environment #k12artchat
#K12ArtChat A1. This is our sixth year. My 5th year. First year no spe ials. Staff changes. Most students stay by choice. We have130/150 spots. Our culture keeps morphing but trying to stay true to our charter ideas
A1...we did a school wide projected of painted rocks during our Fine Arts Day that went with the book Only One You and celebrated how unique we all are. The rocks will be placed in our courtyard. #K12ArtChat
This is in my office (created by my talented 2nd grade teacher @Parker2ndGrade) and those who come into my office take a picture in front of it. Makes for a nice memory of @MooreMagnetES and leaves what is hopefully a positive impression. #K12artchat#LimitlessSchool
Creating a culture in a school begins with embracing the community. Today my school wide collaboration invited the community to read aloud art books all day long. The power of a community together can spread knowledge #a1#skmsartday18#K12ArtChat
A2: I started putting artwork in the front lobby my 1st year at my school and it gave a better impression of our student’s ability. The department has grown each year and now I hope for that to lead to students going to college. #k12artchat
A1 the arts are a powerful way to build the creative capacities of every child. Holding parent creativity sessions helps shift mindsets as to why the arts are so important. Creativity is developed in the art room and practiced in all areas of life. #k12artchat
A2 the murals in our school - made collaboratively by the Ss - are how we make a great impression on everyone who enters the building! #crockettart made this one in 2017 - in the main entrance! #K12ArtChat
A2: I think it is important for students to have their work on display in all areas. Allow them to cover the walls with their ideas that way it is accessible to teachers, parents, administrators and community members who visit. #K12ArtChat
A1 in my Plts in the past few weeks I have been introducing nd creating group thought posters, info graphics, and soon group picture creation based on the topic...we are also working in K, 1, and 2 to rethink and rewrite our writing planning #k12ArtChat
A2 We have had a 2yr partnership with Columbus-based artists Stephanie Rond, April Sunami & Kat Harris the 2yr residency really let the collaboration take root. The focus was on kindness. You can read about it here. Project evolves into a reciprocal relationship. #k12artchat
A1: different gr lvls did different projects for a variety of purposes. 5th made welcome videos for new Ss. 4th made a collaborative class project to have on display for the whole school to see. #K12ArtChat
A2. The arts have an amazing ability to connect to everything. My Ss presented TAB to the school board a few months ago. They discussed how the learn in a different way. Everyone was impressed. #k12artchat
A2: show off your ss art everywhere and reach stakeholders where they are!
We hang art around our school, in local businesses, and use a lot of social media #k12artchat
As you know @adamdovico when you enter our front hall, you are treated with two hall sized murals of the school and a slide show pf stude t work. However, I want to work with the magnet committee to create more student lead work. #k12ArtChat
A2: I also was allowed to graffiti my complete hallway since the school is being torn down in two years. It's almost totally complete. The students are proud of it and enjoy it. #k12artchat
A2: I am having children create art for our outdoor learning property! I think it will set a great impression for those who visit it for years to come! #LimitlessSchool#k12artchat
#K12ArtChat A2 I try to cover ghe halls with our art works made in class.
Little harder this year with new construction and remodeling. I just lost my biggest display hallway due to it is closed for remodeling
Lights,out......
A2: Art is where students show what they think, not just what they recall. When we prominently display kids' authentic artwork we show who we are and what we value. I always get comments from stakeholders about murals and installations demonstrating student voice #k12artchat
A3 love 2 collab. w/ts. Great way 2 develop holistic units that help children apply creativity to life, not just 1 specific discipline. Creativity is @ making connections. @mattdematteis an amazing teacher I have been fortunate to work with on projects 4 past 12yrs. #k12artchat
A1: The art show is always a time for teachers to work together in our building. The art teacher helps kids design covers for writing projects. Teachers, parents, students and families all come together to celebrate the arts! #k12artchat#limitlessSchool
A2: at Open House, I had 6 different iPads out (w/ 6 diff. Apps open on it. The Ss came in & showed Ps how to use them & what they learned from them. #k12ArtChat
One of our stakeholders and art supporter is our superintendent. Each year we are asked for student artwork to hang in our admin office. Each student comes to a school board meeting and talks about their work. Great way to show support for the arts in our district!#K12ArtChat
A2 Stakeholders are impressed with student artists' accomplishments.Artwork in and outside the school is attractive and honors the arts in a special way. #K12ArtChat
A3: Marriage is a hard one to answer because it takes a lot of work to make it work. My admin and counselors have been supportive which has led to us increasing our available classes. #k12artchat
A3, my teachers have learned this year (the secret is out) if the art teacher is busy, go see Ammann. I've loved creating for my teachers this year and helping their students, my students, foster their creativity. #k12ArtChat
A3: I couldn’t host our district art show or our district STEAM Carnival without the help of my admin and our district instructional specialist! I can’t get over how supportive they are! #k12ArtChat
A3: Many stakeholders are involved in our annual 'Do Something Cool' day when students and staffulty are encouraged to collaborate on creative projects. Many awesome pieces of art are created. #K12ArtChat
@GrundlerArt & @Artguy76 Carol ELA Consultant from Long Island here at #k12artchat. BTW - Thank you Matt for the fabulous conversation on the Art Studio concept.
A3: our local arts council holds #youthartday for county students each year. This is a great time to meet local artists, educators, and families #k12artchat
A3: I reached out to an artist I found on Instagram @ErikAbelArt during a project my 5th were doing. They asked him about 10 questions and he sent responses in video form! #k12ArtChat
A3: Our district has a campus set up & 2 weeks ago art teachers in all 4 buildings has lots of work on display and invited the community to come to campus for a "gallery walk." Our elementary teachers do an amazing job with their displays
@Maketime4Art#K12ArtChat
Agreed- I don’t have halls but I have a voice and learning occurs in the in between the connections and process the stuff that is so much more than the product. We must educate everyone on these points, we need admin to look beyond the halls but the halls are a hook #k12ArtChat
A4 the arts have helped me learn that creative minds work 24/7/365. Creativity is how we experience the world. A child can’t be “creative” on a project and then turn it off when it’s not convenient for the adults. We must be mindful that creativity is always on. #k12artchat
A4 my students have taught me tons! I listen to their stories and give opportunities for them to express their views through their art. I advocate for their needs differently than other teachers because I know them on a different level #K12ArtChat
#k12artchat I am too too too stressed between prepping for two art shows, awards ceremonies, a PBIS trip (sub plans) and just life pile in general. I’ll try and tune in next time.
A3c: we are teaming up the art show and our PBL initiatives for an art and science showcase. My hope is to get some food trucks to come to our school so families attending after sports will have dinner. #k12ArtChat
A4: I am an ELA focus but bringing art into my classroom has released the power of students to tell stories in different ways. It sparks conversations and debates and encourages students to be courageous in their expression. #k12artchat
A4 as an art magnet school we are always helping Ss find their creative passion. I want to go beyond that and highlight the Ts creative passions...music breaks, paint breaks, clay breaks #K12artchat#LimitlessSchool
A3. Our school is a member of an organization called FAME (foundation for art and music in education) lots of opportunities through them! Big art show hosted by them to display art and performances. 50-60 schools participate, great way to off art for parents & others #K12ArtChat
A4: art gives me a view into my students lives because it gives them a safe place to express and take risks as well as share their culture work all of us #k12artchat
A3: my 4th were designing purposeful furniture, I reached out to a furniture company @NorvaNivelUS for inspiration & Ss we’re super excited abt seeing the purpose furniture can have. #k12ArtChat then we printed out some from @MorphiApp
A4: Gave my Sculpture class a prompt to create a work as a "personal symbol" and learning more about my Ss through this project than ever before. Known one girl for 4 years and never knew she raised dairy cows and wanted to be a vet
#K12ArtChat
A4: I learn a lot about my students through their art. One of our calm down strategies in our classroom is to create or draw to express how they are feeling. #K12ArtChat#limitlessschool
A4: while the work itself is telling, I feel when the creation of art is paired with meaningful reflection I can learn a lot more about my students.
I love what they share in their visual journals and flip grid video reflections. #k12artchat
Today 25 community members came to read aloud to students during #skmsartday18 the mayor, school board members, superintendent, university president and a local DJ! Education is a partnership #k12artchat#a3
A5: My school defines success as the increased production of the students. I like the progress we’ve made and the quality of the student’s work has increased, but will see success when I see students going on to college. #k12artchat
A4 Understanding the passions of all students help us build stronger relationships in school buildings. The arts showcase the creativity of students. Honor this! #K12artchat#Limitless School
A5 I think the measure of success w/regards to creativity should be measured in how we have grown creative confidence in both students & faculty. How willing are we to take risks & challenge the status quo. How flexible do we think? How have we explored our curiosity #k12artchat
A4 I am constantly leaning about my Ss because of the art they are creating or not creating. Sometimes their barriers to creativity teach me more about them than the art itself #k12artchat
I believe we should measure the success of our schools by the joy that our students feel with all that they have accomplished at the end of a year. This is the idealist in me, but I think it could work #k12artchat
A5 I think we traditionally look at test scores to determine success but I’d love for us to look more closely at things like attendance and student engagement to determine our success #K12ArtChat
A5 success is measured quantitatively...obviously. I however find myself working to find the qualitative successes even if they aren't always readily received. Growth, creation, development, thinking outside the box #K12artchat#LimitlessSchool
#k12ArtChat A3 we will collaborate as a fine arts district team by exhibiting a fine arts fair that will highlight STEAM and Art.
At the HS we collaborated with artist Margarita Cabrera and local arts groups for a permanent installation at Mission Espada
My school community is diverse speaking over 43 different languages at home. We must embrace the global community, our differences and find commonality. The arts can be a visual voice to bring us all together! #a4#k12artchat
A4...I love that in my room Ss can be able to express themselves. I love it even more when Ss are able to give great feedback to each other and give each other support in their artwork! #K12ArtChat
Q5: When I measure success, I think mostly about how kids feel about their art. If they are taking home some pieces they are proud of I feel successful. If kids want to continue making art, I feel successful. #k12artchat
A5: Success is determined by data & documentation. If it’s not documented it didn’t happen. It’s good & bad... Thankfully the good outweighs the bad! #k12ArtChat
I was so impressed with the makerspace I saw in one of our Long Island Middle Schools-Farmingdale MS. The art teacher was part of the team. Great hearing how the students were so excited. #K12artchat#Limitless School

A5: We look at a lot of data, including test scores, but we also look at student, parent, and alumni surveys. As a department we keep in touch with a lot of our grads, and make sure we are preparing them for their next step
#K12ArtChat
yes, it's such a great opportunity for our small community. This year we will have community members and student collaborating on a mural for our town, while attending the event. #k12artchat
A5: when I think of measures of success, what I wish I could change is the constant push to measure. Not everything can be quantified nor should they be. I prefer to focus on learning more than grading. #k12artchat
A4 It's important for Ss to express themselves in artistic ways. Art Teacher as Guides can help all students understand the creativity inside. #K12artchat#Limitless School
A6 #K12ArtChat@ClaireFeder@Cam_The_Teacher@benlamp83 - I may pester you about some of your tweets tonight to get more info! I’d love to bring art to the Ts, see the art of the Ts, and see EVERYONE do something cool together through art!
Mrs Swaidner - Art @HES_Artists school wide project of painted rocks gave me the idea of doing some tiny paintings and hiding them on campus for the finders to keep? #k12artchat
A4: did an amazing Collab w/ music & 4th gr Ts. Ss wrote poems abt self perspective in their class. Put a beat to the poem. Then drew self Portraits & created symbols that rep. them. It was amazing!!#K12ArtChat
A6part-two: It wasn't mentioned but AP Art - this is the 1st year we’ve had AP art in over 8 years and I want to see it continue and expand to more than 2 students. Next year I would like to add the GA Fine Arts Seal criteria. #k12artchat
#k12ArtChat A4 I learn so much from my students by developing g lasting relationships with them while doing artwork. Students while creating tend to open more and share more; this helps me reach them more.
#k12ArtChat A5: well our school does an online survey which is okay but yes I rather do a community service project, like with teachers, staff, admin and even students.
A7 my goal for the rest of the year is to encourage more of the Ss that aren’t in the art program to engage with art information. I might do this through our video screens in halls - post some video of Ss making art or talking about what they’ve learned #K12ArtChat
Q5...I like asking students how they felt the year went. If they feel successful and enjoyed what they were able to make it is a successful year!#K12ArtChat
That's a cool idea! I have shared work of my past students with my classes and they immediately assume I know a bunch of famous people! It's great lol #K12artchat

A7: my goal is to not lose steam going into our last 9 weeks. I received a grant for another kiln, want to get ready so I can hit the ground running next year, while finishing strong this year #K12ArtChat
A6 End products are created through the Process! Admin need to understand how the arts promote creativity of all students. #K12artchat#Limitless School
A7...a goal that has been talked about is getting together with the middle school art teacher my kids will go to and discuss the flow of our curriculum. What have we covered and how we can build on it to help Ss grow in their art. Excited for that collaboration! #K12ArtChat
#k12ArtChat A7 hmm one goal: personal, I think building (increasing Ss memberships) the sculpture program at my school, because I want to see kids develop their 3D skills and senses.
Our district is embracing PBL & other engaging teaching in our classrooms to encourage connections, risk taking, & the continuous transfer of learning. We are embracing a mindset of failure, it's ok if we learn form it. We can't do that without the 4C's #k12artchat
