Hello, Derik! It's Tammy Seneca from West Baton Rouge Parish. I'm the Technology Supervisor, Head Start - 12th! Hope everyone is enjoying the start of the summer! #laedchat
A1: I think your graphic says it all... that is the way kids think now a days! I also think that a little healthy competition never hurt anyone! #LaEdChat
A2: Students love recognition and adding gaming elements to a lesson allows for a student's hard work to be shown. I think it's important for students to know how to win and lose sometimes, so they can try harder. #LaEdChat
A2: I think that it is such a part of our society now... everything from reality shows to Mindcraft all have a gaming component. Students today are saturated with it... so as teachers we should embrace it and not shun it! #LaEdChat
A2: Games are usually more interactive and multi-stepped. The graphics are more flashy and visually appealing. It can be fast paced. Games can just help build up the energy in the room, and Ss feed off of it. #LAedchat

A2: students may be competitive, like team aspect of games--being able to interact; and they love motion and excitement--teachers are more outgoing and relaxed during games sometimes too. #LaEdChat
A3: My favorite game is #MinecraftEdu@PlayCraftLearn . It is so adaptable for many lessons and subjects and the students can not get enough of it. #LaEdChat
A3: Right now my Ss r really n2 @quizizz & @VocabularyCom Jams. I have a lot of other games, but Ss love these most. I've created card games 4 Ss to play like War with Greek & Roman leaders & achievements. I like to take games that they would play and make SS spin offs. #LaEdChat
A3: I love @playfanschool's Fantasy Geopolitcs, I love human board games with silly moves, my friend invented an amazing review game that is a mix of Settlers of Catan and Magic: brilliant! And small scale pair games are great for review. #LaEdChat
A3: I know that our students and teachers love @GetKahoot --- really who does not! I wish we could use Mindcraft, but we are a Chromebook district. Only major negative we have found with the devices. #LaEdChat
A3: My students also love @ProdigyGame Its like Pokemon meets math. They battle with math problems and can earn stuff for their avatars. Plus its FREE #LaEdChat
A4: Yes, you can make spin off of board games & card games that Ss and Ts already play. My Ss & I made a US history Taboo game for Colonial-Reconstruction. We played it 4 closing everyday. When it's a game they are familiar w/it makes explaining it easier/unnecessary. #LaEdChat
A4: Good question! I believe so-it is just more difficult! You can have non-techie leader boards! Wouldn't you say that some teachers have been doing this for years. Competitions for popcorn parties, etc. I think gaming has a loose definition and many applications. #LaEdChat
A4: I have several teachers who have added badges or house points to their lessons. Students love earning them and keeping track of their progress. No tech needed. #LaEdChat
A4: I can't believe I forgot breakouts!! I even do these at home with family and friends. The best! And we have lots of non-tech games. They do require a lot of prep and trial and error, but I like them better. I feel like they promote a stronger retention rate #LaEdChat
A4: yes!!! @abrown0712had the kids make a game board like Risk with gummy bears! It was so fun! I love inclusion. I get to do fun creative things even when I’m having an uncreative day. Lol #laedchat
A5: If the Ss are interested in it and are bored. They're not going to retain the information very well. Why not make it fun? Why not make them want to come to class? #LaEdChat
A6: Sometimes, I see backlash from parents who think gaming in the classroom is all fun and nothing gained. I have seen parents change their minds when I have invited them to play along or see what it's all about. #LaEdChat
A6: I think there is always ways to include your parents.... my first thought is a @Flipgrid where the parents can communicate about game strategy or even an electronic scavenger hunt with parents on @Flipgrid!! #LaEdChat
A6: I've had parents join in on the fun. They play the games we play in class at home together to review what we are doing in class. I see so much improvement with those students. #LaEdChat
A5: excitement! Students learn without working, students engage with teachers and peers positively, they retain knowledge, and they feel good-I love how they feel on game days. #LaEdChat
A6: I've seen some school host family nights where they let parents play along and and learn about the various games and lessons. I think its a win-win. #LaEdChat
A7: I have found a lot on Twitter and Facebook! Following various organizations tied to education has helped so much. And I have amazing coworkers who are always actively seeking new tools. #LaEdChat
