Morning, #hacklearning. Bigger, better, stronger? Those sound like aspirational adjectives as dawn breaks in Colorado where I am. I'm Brian. I teach middle-school students English.
Still sitting with @Sisonkemsimang keynote from last night. When it comes to social justice, as white (cisgender, heterosexual, male) folx we arenโt done dealing with our wounds and the grief we feel over coming to terms with our power and how itโs been used #ACUHOi
A1 diving into @SteveWyborney โs book Writing on the classroom wall - ๐ the big ideas & how to introduce each one to sts ... esp ๐ writing is making meaning (how interrelated writing & thinking are) #HackLearning
A1: Professionally, I have been focusing a lot on #digitalcitizenship this summer & finding so many great resources out there! Personally, I have been focusing on #selfcare. #hacklearning
A1 I've taken a few courses from @MicrosoftEDU on Project Based Learning, Digital Citizenship and Digital Literacy. Also reading Code Breaker and Learning Transported at the moment. #HackLearning

Also been trying to do more #sketchnoting & #coding this summer! I love having the time to pursue some of these projects that always get pushed to the side! #hacklearning
A1: I have carved out time to really try to write and use supportive blogging to grow as a leader and support others. I also joined LinkedIN to expand connections. I can share the latest blog : https://t.co/cS9ePJC9rF#hacklearning
#HackLearning A1 I've been catching up on my PD reading with a focus on lesson planning a classroom management. I've learnt the more engaged your Ss are the less focus on behavioral issues.
A1: Finished #BoldSchool (Great For instruction-Blended tried & true methods with tech) & Lead with Culture (Focusing on what matters to improve culture) this week! Love @JayBilly2's challenge=find the enemy of mediocrity. #culturematters & got this last night #hacklearning
A1 Learning from reading, like this tidbit from 3rd page of Colum McCann's _Letters to a Young Writer_: "โBe a student, not a teacher, even when you teach.โ And also conferene going, where @mrskochheiser taught me about https://t.co/fFEi4KZDn0#hacklearning
A1 ... this past week been thinking about how we treat each other on Twitter ... finding fault with each other vs actually discussions ... we talk civility, but there are sharks in the water who seem intent on finding fault than playing on the same team #hacklearning
I am rewriting my curriculum to include interest-driven pathways for students. After a few years of teaching I have noticed a trend so I want to capture student interest #HackLearning
A1 Just starting to catch up on reading - so many on my TBR pile. Both pleasure and professional reading. Looking to get more familiar with google also to expand use for next year. #HackLearning
Something Iโve been thinking about for a while; is there a way for us as educators to be nimble enough to adapt curriculum based on initial conversations with our Ss at the beginning of the year? #hacklearning
#hacklearning A1: I have been working to connect with other Ts through #twitter and I have been spending time reflecting on what was amazing last year and what can be improved.
A1: I just finished up my masters earlier this summer this helped me grow personally and professionally more than I could have imagined. I canโt wait to continue to use what I learned to help lead change throughout my building! #HackLearning
A2 I am intentionally going to take more time to build relationships with my students & be completely transparent. With teen suicide on the rise, itโs imperative #HackLearning
A2: 2nd full year as a coach, I understand more of what people want & how I can help. Also, working with leadership to focus our vision on a few specific areas as opposed to the overwhelming bigger picture. #hacklearning
A2: My goal for this upcoming year is to really open the door to my classroom and invite others in as well as be intentional about seeing others. So many great ideas out there worth sharing and seeing #GloballyConnected#PLN#HackLearning
A2: Iโm going to focus on communication with my families and... dun, dun, dun...using the phone (which is a dreaded thing I avoid at all costs). #hacklearning
A2 I get a fresh start with my new position ... planning to be a better listener so that I can work otherโs goals/visions while pushing tchrs to plan better for writing skills in their sts ... working with ldrshp to hone my abilities #HackLearning
Something Iโve been thinking about for a while; is there a way for us as educators to be nimble enough to adapt curriculum based on initial conversations with our Ss at the beginning of the year? #hacklearning
I have a couple of books to get through ... learning new software for taking over the Fabrication Lab this year ... also working on getting this beast to play 1980s Arcade games #hacklearning
A1: so far this summer I have been reading (#LearnLAP and #InquiryMindset), participating in book studies, and blogging! Oh - also just welcomed this little guy into the family! #hacklearning
A2: My goal is to spend more time in classrooms this next year! To that end, I'm continually trying to expand my expertise in content areas & ages that I never taught. #HackLearning
A2: I am hoping to take on some Ss directed #designthinking projects. I would love for my Ss to see past the topics we look at in #STEM and find what makes them passionate! #HackLearning
#HackLearning Im heading towards my next practicum. My lesson plans will be more engaging with hooks! so Ss will want to return. Im going to try new things and not be afraid to discuss them with my mentor teacher. Learning is growth.
A2: I gained so much insight on how to push forward and get others moving with you. This is something I canโt wait to do with my students and the teachers in my building. Forward is the only place to go! #HackLearning
A2 In 2018-19, school where I teach is shifting to bigger periods (a.k.a. more block time), which demands my students & I become stronger, more flexible managers of our time together. #hacklearning
I have. This will not be genius hour I have found that with semester courses I do not have time to adequately support 120 students. This is a hybrid- just a more narrow focus. Because it is an elective student choice is foundational #HackLearning
A2b: Going back into the classroom next year, can't wait to work on in-class flipping, flexible seating, and PBL concepts. Bought some Microbits, excited to work with Ss to see how we can use them in a Civics classroom #hacklearning
A1: I am developing a step-by-step ebook PD showing how to make your own Digital Escape the Room using G-SUITE and other free platforms! #PLN#feedtheneed@mlarson_nj#HackLearning
I made a promise to myself to be #intentional with my time. This year I am making sure my passions match my time and energy. I will #createpathways for #StudentAction and support for teachers to #TeachSDGs. It takes a never failing commitment for true change. #hacklearning
Sadly with one size fits all models, those who donโt succeed internalize the problem being them, instead of the model being a potential problem. #hacklearning
Good morning #hacklearning
Debbi HS Tech from NJ jumping in.
Sure there is by having a project based classroom all projects can include student choice:)
Something Iโve been thinking about for a while; is there a way for us as educators to be nimble enough to adapt curriculum based on initial conversations with our Ss at the beginning of the year? #hacklearning
Just joining! Kathy, elementary principal from AL. A2: I am going to be more purposeful - present in the classrooms, sharing my vision, encouraging others. See Miracles In Life Everyday (SMILE) #HackLearning
A2 I will have a new role as STE Ambassador. Establishing connections with that group has been awesome, I look forward to strengthening that and learning together #HackLearning
I am referring to those who are more bout analyzing word choice and finding fault ... those who are quick to jump and assume we are implying they are bad teachers if they don't do this ... more about semantics than Ed discussion. #hacklearning
A2: My goal is to spend more time in classrooms this next year! To that end, I'm continually trying to expand my expertise in content areas & ages that I never taught. #HackLearning
I have a couple of books to get through ... learning new software for taking over the Fabrication Lab this year ... also working on getting this beast to play 1980s Arcade games #hacklearning
A2 I'm going to continue to build on Class culture, introduce AR/VR and Minecraft to my students. Also planning on changing our writing workshop #HackLearning
A2: I am fortunate enough to be having @MrsLaurenMalone join our staff as an AP. Iโm taking this opportunity to make a few commitmentsโto give better feedback to my teachers and to read more to my students! #HackLearning
Sounds like structure that's relatively tight with curricular goals/expectations, loose with paths to reach them by demonstrating mastery. #hacklearning
I have. This will not be genius hour I have found that with semester courses I do not have time to adequately support 120 students. This is a hybrid- just a more narrow focus. Because it is an elective student choice is foundational #HackLearning
A2 building relationships bringing my bestie the situation whether developing meaningful instructional for students or finding resources , learning opportunities for teachers #hacklearning
A2: I am also building a website so I can share more of what I do with other Ts and hopefully empower others to not be afraid of #makerspace#HackLearning
A1) Good Morning #hacklearning I have spent a great deal of time ๐ and โ๐พ. As much as I want to learn and explore new concepts I have found the significance in going back and enhancing my foundation and core values. Call it #BasicTraining.
A2 This year Iโll be in a new position; however, I will share my personal and professional learning to help our Ts, but more importantly our Ss to achieve academic and personal excellence. #HackLearning
A2: I am also building a website so I can share more of what I do with other Ts and hopefully empower others to not be afraid of #makerspace#HackLearning
Let me see if I hear you; you are saying how you intended to communicate is the critical piece here? Trying to understand what you are getting at. #hacklearning
A2: I've ploughed lots of hrs into class planning, preparing lessons, presentations, weaving the assessment process throughout, organised online LMS to back it up, plus some student resources that help pin it all together.
All aimed at learning.
#hacklearning
A2: I am going to continue to find ways to get #edtech info to my colleagues. I am going to take on new initiatives and set goals to expand my craft! @mlarson_nj#HackLearning
A2 building relationships bringing my bestie the situation whether developing meaningful instructional for students or finding resources , learning opportunities for teachers #hacklearning
I have one in just about every room in the house! And they keeps growing! I need to stop time for everything else to catch up and then go back to my schedule! #Hacklearning
Moving from 3x 50 min + 1x 90 min per week to 1x 45 min + 2x 90 min per week. Net loss of 15 min per typical week; net gain of twice as many blocks. Overall schedule shifts from seven periods to eight per day. #hacklearning
A2 building relationships bringing my bestie the situation whether developing meaningful instructional for students or finding resources , learning opportunities for teachers #hacklearning
What a great question! A3: Iโm working on this now- digging deep to find my why and support others to,too- so we can take risks and be brave together! #hacklearning
Good morning, #HackLearning crew! I'm a literacy coach, MYP Language and Literature teacher, and international literacy consultant. I live in Tokyo, but I'm home in the US visiting family for the summer. ๐
A3: honestly if I wasnโt afraid, I would put myself out there more to share my ideas and experiences as an educator. Too often I tell myself Iโm too young, or too inexperienced to share anything worth value. Gotta fight my own mindset! #HackLearning
I just want to play Galaga ... and others ... i currently have 94 games, but I am struggling getting the software to work ... had to reformat the cards and start over. #hacklearning
A3: Interesting question. Not sure I have an answer, but the related thought that comes to mind is what is driving my fear? Where is it coming from? #HackLearning
Specifically I want to โharnessโ the power of social media to promote their successes and our class progress. I want to push my school away from the mentality that cell phones are an obstacle of education. #hacklearning
A3 If I were afraid, I wouldnโt be where I am today. I have the support of my family, colleagues, and friends who inspire me to do more, expect more, and make the best out of every opportunity!#HackLearning
A3- @mlarson_nj always asks the tough questions! Thanks to my #4OCFpln in already doing it- NBCT next year, then admin credentialing, presenting out of state for @mhayes611 so many ways Iโm stretching! #HackLearning
A3: I find that there isn't anything I won't try because of fear. If it is best for my Ss I will #makeithappen and I am lucky to have admin who support my role and ideas #HackLearning
What Iโm doing - retiring from my life as a public sch educator- 13 as a supt- after 43 years and figuring out what lifelong learning experiences come next #HackLearning
A3: If I wasnโt afraid Iโd probably do something dumb!!! A little fear gives you the need to find your why and know the logic behind your decisions in order to defend them! #HackLearning
A3: Talk to colleagues who arenโt using best practices about better ways to do things. This might seem simple, but I am incredibly afraid of it and the conflict it causes #HackLearning
yes ... the intent of the tweet ... I should be able to say I teach without someone coming after me saying that I should be guiding the students ... in my mind they are synonymous. #hacklearning
A2 - Iโm going to write more. Iโve been fortunate enough to have some wonderfully successful projects (research and classroom based) and I want to share them through blogs and conferences. #HackLearning
Sometimes youth brings creativity and genius. Consider what people like Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs did when they were very young. Let your voice be heard, Taylor. #HackLearning
A3 I would walk into every classroom with the hope that excellent tchg/learning is occuring, that I can help find a coachable co-learner, & that together we could impact greater positive change #HackLearning
The negativity is from many topic areas and genres from education to celebrities to sports. But there are many positive people doing great things. I focus on them! #HackLearning
#HackLearning As a PST I would not be afraid to contribute ideas to foster chsbge, such as no grades. Sometimes I think I'm a little inexperienced yet my mentor teacher said be confident in yourself! Your a professional!
#HackLearning I agree With Deb. I am at a point in my career where fear is no longer an issue. I am going to push the entire district to make decisions that are in the best interest for the students we serve.
#HackLearning my certification turned out to be a learning challenge for my remember bookmark in my Brain ask me Why? OK maybe it is Christina Carter honey ๐ฏ let me do some break from you.
A3 I just finished reading _Just Mercy_ by Bryan Stevenson which influences my answer: If I weren't afraid, I'd take a more active role supporting efforts towards social justice. #hacklearning
Reminds me of my latest blog post: https://t.co/OSYKWZURHk (time + freedom in the classroom). Also, just finished my admin cert, so I get it...good luck! #hacklearning
Editing a book for two educator friends, curating a life of educational books for a home library, getting ready to reconvene with my bagpipes #hacklearning
This year I started by giving Ss more choices - how they would show mastery of given skills. I want to incorporate more student leaders/teachers and try to make it so they donโt rely on me as much #HackLearning
Yes, and no.
This could simply be an excellent opportunity to reflect on perceptions of others, often created by our wording on social media.
I'm sure you can think of many improved ways to word "good teachers..."
You get more bees with honey.
#relevant#cliche#HackLearning
My feeling is that with the 90 minute blocks you'll be able to do so much more, even if you lose 15 minutes overall. Interesting schedule. We have 5 seventy minute periods per day - wondering how yours would work for us. #HackLearning
Right, Dennis. I find people are very quick to attack the wording of a tweet. There are lots of "Great teachers do X" tweets that are quickly vilified. I've seen replies like, "Oh, I guess I'm not a great teacher, then." It's reactionary and unnecessary. #HackLearning
"Narcissistic leaders deny their weaknesses.
Humble leaders acknowledge their weaknesses.
Great leaders strive to overcome their weaknesses."

Love it. Social media is an extremely powerful tool that can be used to spread the โgood newsโ. We also to need to educate our young people on social media and the consequences, positive and negative, that can come from it. #HackLearning
A1: A big part of my growing and learning each summer is helping coordinate @ChildrensLit_SU. It's an incredible conference with amazing authors and illustratorsโand awesome breakout PD sessions. A part of my reflection is here: https://t.co/nQXDPO1lc9 ๐ #hacklearning
A1: Every day and every moment is an opportunity to learn and grow. I love talking with others, reading what I can, and taking advantage of PD opportunities that push the conventional to new limits. #HackLearning
I stopped being afraid a long time ago. The thing I have to make sure I do is askโis this best for kids. And if the answer is YES, I jump in. #Hacklearning
Iโm hoping to develop awesome amazing meaningful relevant student centered learning opportunities for students in science and use science as my context my tool for teaching everything else Real integration of learning no silos #hacklearning
