#2ndaryELA is a group of middle and high school English Language Arts teachers looking to share ideas and best practices. We chat every Tuesday night at 8 pm EST using #2ndaryELA. We'd love for you to join us!
Digital Literacy means the ability for students to easily connect with other learners in order to share the thoughts and connections students are making in class! #2ndaryela
A2: My school is in year 2 of DLI (1to1) and I incorporate digital literacy everywhere. Sharing audio so sts can listen to novels, using articles with adjustable lexiles, using cam to record rdg/reflections #2ndaryELA
A2: Especially with intellectual property - model giving credit in my own work. Expect they give credit all the time. Always look for a chance to integrate digital literacy skills with everything else #2ndaryELA
A2: Teach the students what to look for in valid websites. Also, teach them to give credit to websites and pictures they use in presentations. #2ndaryELA
Our teachers consistently incorporate digital literacy in their classrooms through online passages that vary in lexile levels, having students conduct research for writing pieces using digital resources, and having students create digital portfolios their student work #2ndaryela
A2 it’s not a separate part of the curriculum. I teach it while using tech as a tool for learning- and each too requires different usage guideines #2ndaryELA

A3: If it's not been started in elementary - it's very difficult to introduce digital literacy to Ss in middle school. It's too much to learn on top of the content! #2ndaryELA

In the doc, there is a plus button in bottom right corner that allows internet search. Once info is found, it can be added and citation is available to post in as well #2ndaryELA
A4: Inhave loved included families in their sts rdg journey. With help of tech, parents can hear sts recordings, comment on their rdg reflections and see digital annotations #2ndaryELA
Agreed, we have found success in pairing digital articles with the novels we already teach. The pairing of fiction/nonfiction has always been good, but with tech, there are so many more resources #2ndaryELA
A4 There's the possibility for 100% engagement with the use of technology and meeting all students' interests because of endless online resources #2ndaryELA
A5: Newsela for lexile and annotating, Readtheory for passage practice at Indep levels, Fluency Tutor for oral reading, Seesaw for portfolios #2ndaryELA
A5 - I'm onsessed with #hyperdocs - they have changed my teaching and engaged my students like nothing else. I was just interviewed for "Hyperdocs Hangout on Air" last week- here's a link to that and a blog with LOTS of free #hyperdocs! https://t.co/jQNGV2kaco#2ndaryela
A5: Flipgrid, Google Classroom, Kami (to help students annotate articles online), NewsELA, and Socrative are all engaging and student friendly resources I have used in the classroom #2ndaryela
