Good evening Coaches, Tony Shiffman here, co-host of the #hogfbchat Also HFC of the @BloodhoundFB of Fort Madison. Camp week going on and then full throttle next Monday! #BrickByBrick#WeNotMe
In bantam leagues it would be all about having fun and learning. Once he’s in high school he’ll have to know that he will have to work harder because I’m his coach and prove he’s better #hogfbchat
A1: my oldest played for me, I treated him like every other player. He was a solid #2 that got a good bit of playing time but he didn't get preference. I was probably harder on him....#hogfbchat
A1: Just like I would any other kid. What a great example you COULD set. We preach all the time about treating the star and the bench warmer the same... How great would it be to be able to say “See Lil Johnny, I treat you like I treat my own son.” #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat A1 # 1 by far, has to be the establishment of a loving and trusting relationship. I try to let the other coaches do most of the talking with him. No nitpicking or over coaching.
A1: There can be no doubt in anyone’s mind about playing time... might be unfair but you hold your son to an even higher standard (which can be another can of worms) Also has to be clear boundries between being dad and being coach #hogfbchat
A1: don’t know what our baby Flo will be, but if the baby is a boy, I’d coach him the same as we do our kids now. Coach him hard, hold him accountable, love him harder #hogfbchat
A1 - my Dad was my coach. Coach him like everyone else. Don't talk football unless your son wants to talk football. When you leave the field you leave the game on the field.
#hogfbchat
#hogfbchat
A1: Seen Coaches treat their kids as one of the players
Also seen Coaches move up or down level from their son. OR send their kids to a different school- to avoid politics
A1. With genetics kicking in at some point there is no way he plays the OL so I got that going for me. Wouldn't want to coach him anyways, feel like it's not fair to him. He needs to hear someone else rant & rave since I'm sure he tunes my voice out instantly already #Hogfbchat
A1: try to be honest with him. I’d probably be a little tough on him, but I’m realistic and hopefully let other coaches coach him up when it gets to the heat of the moment. #hogfbchat
A1: My dad was my coach, coached me as hard as anyone else and always left football at the field house. Was my dad at home coach at the field. #hogfbchat
A1: Treat him like everyone else. Nothing will be given to him. He will have to understand that between those white lines I’m his coach and I will treat him as such and will try to eliminate any bias #hogfbchat
A2: second year here. Expecting another step forward in the rebuild. 4-7 last year and hosted a playoff game which doubled most wins in a season in the past 15yrs. Offseason strength gain should put us in position to continue to move forward #HogFbChat
Brady Walz, ball coach and RPO Coordinator, Ankeny Original, co-host @RunThePower#hogfbchat Love this profession and the people you meet and the impact you can make on young men!
A1: Would probably be a lil harder on him than others. Just because I’d probably have higher expectations as far as attitude and work ethic. #hogfbchat
A2: my individual goals center around making our special teams in taking over more organized and to win that phase of the game. And continue to build the culture of tough and nasty up front #HogFbChat
A1) my dad was my coach in almost every sport from before I can remember through high school. Also got to coach with him for 8 years. However he did it would be how I model my attempt. He pulled me out of games more than once. My standard was no less than the rest. #hogfbchat
A2: expectation should be to win state. That’s not just my team but anyone who plays this fall. In the great words of Bruce Arians “You play to get the ring on your finger” #hogfbchat
A2: always 100 pancakes earns the “steaks and cakes” party. But looking for returners to improve and young guys to step up. Need better cohesion upfront and improve our run and pass blocking. #EverythingNeedsImprovement#hogfbchat
A2-help the guys accomplish the goals they have set for the season. Personally, excited to learn new things and keep my mind open to new ideas and looking at the game the way the kids do. Have fun.
#hogfbchat
A2) I’m going into my 3rd year but I’m on a new staff with a new program. I’m the youngblood on the staff. The least experienced guy but I’m on great staff. My goal is to learn as much as I can during my time here. Be a sponge and soak it all in. #hogfbchat
A2) Our expectations are maxed effort, good discipline, and limited mistakes. If those expectations can be realized, the goals usually follow. #hogfbchat
A2: Our goals always remain the same:
1. Make the Playoffs
2. Win our conference
3. Highest seed possible in playoffs
4. Walk off the field at Camp Randall with a gold football high above our heads!
#hogfbchat
Oh, and always have Wing Wednesday with the OL/TE group
A2: We have several small goals as well as big ones. Making the playoffs, being a very physical team, average 1 sack or less /game. In Jr high, win back to back conference titles #hogfbchat
A1: Could be an incredible opportunity, i am years and years away from that, but coaching your own kid seems like something special. That being said your kid needs to be treated the exact same. #HogFBChat
A2: I want my guys to be prepared every week. We have had a great offseason: players are asking questions and have a desire to be great. As a coach that’s all I can ask! #hogfbchat
A2: To improve every day so we are playing our best football at the end of the season. To instill and enforce standard within our WR room that embodies our core values of WAR: Winning, Aggressive, and Relentless. To be the best husband I can to my wife. #hogfbchat
A2: Our goal is get better each week. See improvement from practice to practice, game to game. If we do that, all the goals we talk about (wins, titles, accolades) should fall into place. I want my guys focusing on doing their job better then they did the day before. #hogfbchat
A2: and my last and most important goal is to do everything in my power to make this a memorable year for my senior lineman. They bought in to me from day 1 last year when they didn’t have to. They’ve worked hard and deserve success #HogFbChat
A2 Compete everyday. Every drill, every group rep, every team rep, and compete on Friday Nights. Get better from week to week, and try and make this season something special for the seniors. Oh and have fun, sometimes that gets forgotten ! #HogFBChat
HS football coach & former colleague & good friend of ours Wife & 2 kids recently had a car wreck resulting in the heartbreaking loss of his 3 year old boy. Please help anyway you can. Click this link https://t.co/O0ZBqdw8Nd or find it on our website. Thanks in advance #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat A2 goals: be the most fundamentally sound team in the state, be as close as possible to Flawless in our knowledge & execution of power, counter, stretch, & pass pro. Rush for 500 yds in one game, repeat as state champions. Expectations: develop & improve relationships
A3. Focus on getting to know the kids and the program as best as possible. Find ways to build that rapport while also working to build the program. #hogfbchat
I’ve been around as much as I can. Not being a teacher makes that difficult sometimes. But getting in the weight room and on the field with them has helped a lot. #hogfbchat
A3: Get to know the other staff members and players. Create those bonds and build strong long lasting relationships. I can honestly say for the first time in my career (4th season) I come to office where I’m respected and I enjoy coming to work #hogfbchat
A3: not at new school, but when I did, had OL workouts where we learned what I was about, met with them In weightroom, and built relationships. #hogfbchat
A3: Being new here my goal was to interact with our kids as much as I could, as quickly as I could. We are in the relationship business and any head start I could get on that will only make our transition that much easier. Brand new staff, have to establish OUR culture #hogfbchat
A3: did this last year. Get involved and build relationships. In our case a lot of the kids and community has lost faith in the program. Build the trust and build the culture #HogFbChat
A3: I make myself available, attend everything. Non stop communication with my position group (group text, gettin slaughtered in fortnite together, etc) #hogfbchat
A3. Was new last year. Did everything I could to get in for summer workouts even before I moved. Moved into travel trailer in July to be there. #hogfbchat
I haven’t been new in many years but every time I was at a new school I used the summer to get to know the kids, learn the culture and vocabulary.
#hogfbchat
A2 - Focusing on improving the teaching side of my position group. We want our kids prepared for HS, and the better they grasp what our O or D is trying to accomplish, and how their position fits into that, the better off they are. #hogfbchat
Just keep having them. I love interacting with fellow OL coaches and making these contacts and friends from across the country. Helps bring this great community together. Good luck to everyone this season. #hogfbchat
A4: Show up to everything, work the small jobs without complaining, and work to fit in where needed and when asked. Build great relationships with your position group. #hogfbchat
A4: the time and energy you guys put into this weekly chat has been incredible the last couple years. Keep being awesome. I know I really appreciate it! #hogfbchat
A4: Always love getting into the SCHEME of things, maybe a podcast, host a clinic in Texas, I’m pretty sure I could secure our cafeteria. In all seriousness (even though those suggestions are serious) you guys do a great job, I willingly give up family time to be here. #hogfbchat
A4 Maybe 2-3 questions during the season every couple weeks? I think we can learn from each other in season, similar to making an in-game adjustment 😜😜 keep up the great work ! #HogFBChat
A3: blend what I know with what they did. Worked hard to build relationships. Create a leadership class for seniors. It’s been an awesome transition! #hogfbchat
As the #hogfbchat comes to a close I just want to wish all of your teams health and success this season.
May your runs be long, your yardage be short and your OL be dominating.
Have a blast this season!!
A4. It's fantastic the way it is! Appreciate the effort of all involved that's for sure! Don't know if you could but maybe every once and awhile have a live q and a with an "exepert" guest coach somehow that could be fun. #Hogfbchat
That's a wrap for Season 3 of the #hogfbchat Thank you all for being here every Monday night for the fastest hour on Twitter, we wouldn't be anything without our fellow coaches! #Hogfbchat#AllGasNoBrakes#GoGo
A4: I love having the opportunity to talk with other coaches. It’s been great. I love the format, and the questions/answers have made me think about how I coach, and have helped me in every aspect of coaching. #hogfbchat
As we all prep for the upcoming football season, take the time to thank your significant other for allowing you to step away from your families and coach this game that means so much to us. Thanks Coach @McClellandMolly ! #hogfbchat
We will be taking a hiatus until late November. Good luck to everybody this season! I can't wait to hear about the stories of triumph or tribulations that everybody has this upcoming year! #Hogfbchat

A1 We've had issues with this in our program. But if it was me, ideally i would try not to be his position coach, let another coach vouch for him. #hogfbchat
A2 my goal for the kids is always 'Never Lose'. We might get beat but we should never lose. Getting Beat means they were better, losing means we didnt do whats right. #hogfbchat
