A1- We really did a lot of classroom work, even during the week. And then I added film work on Tuesday (food included) that I think helped. At the end of the year we did board drill during pregame to help pump them up. We got after it! #hogfbchat
A1: got to play young kids, thoroughly assessed the talent, found out deficiencies in my coaching and worked to fix them. Got better at the zone. Understanding the technique involved with the combos. Physicality increased as year went on #hogfbchat
We practiced every type of block imaginable.. gave us the ability to adjust and be prepared for whatever look we might see and counter it with the proper blocking. #hogfbchat
A1)
Kept things super simple. Inside and outside zone only for run game.
Allowed players to get comfortablewith scheme and really improved in fundamentals
#hogfbchat
A1: This year was my first experience with a strong side and a quick side, flipping with the strength.
Took a while to get used to it, but I became a fan! #HogFbChat
A1: we went strong side and quick side along the OL. Made our kids learn how to get in both a left and right hand stance. Also made our kids remember their plays in both sides. #hogfbchat
A1: We became a very physical downhill running team with the flexbone triple option. Looking forward to continue improving next season in this offense. #GoPanthers#JerseyMade#hogfbchat
A1: we really started to gel well towards the end of the year. I saw my guys have each other’s backs. They also started to trust the technique I installed. I threw a lot of new stuff at them and it came on strong weeks 6-8. Play-wise? GT counter. It worked well. #hogfbchat
A1: Very resilient across the board. Suffered injuries and had to move guys around alot. At one point had our guard play tackle. Showed a ton of versatility! #hogfbchat
Coach Marques Stevenson-Head JV Football Coach, 5 year varsity offensive line coach, Run Game Coordinator, Professional Caller of the Hogs #hogfbchat#RideWithUs
A1: I started incorporating 40lb med balls in my indo. Taught my kids control, hand replacement, how important it is to keep a wide base and how important it is to use your hips. Great indo tool!! #hogfbchat
A1: Staff finally bought into a more balanced stance which showed big improvement in pass protection. Mobility and strength work in offseason paid off #hogfbchat
All 5 guys, knew all five positions. Had three different centers, and a couple different line subs. Kept it simple when teaching steps and landmarks. Helped with our lack of depth #HogFBChat
A1: Can't say a favorite.. this was the roughest season I've ever been apart of. Had a different starting O line every week from week 3- week 11. Very inexperienced, really struggled. #HogFbChat
A1: kept things simple, drastic reduction in sacks from previous year. Didn’t throw the baby out w/ bath water, just largely refined zone scheme already familiar with players #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat A1: playing so many guys with very little experience, we upped our “out loud” communication. Really helped solidify schemes early on while the musical chairs were shuffling. Allowed them to fully understand who to block with what kind of block.
A1. I don’t coach our OL here. It was my first season with this program. I really liked how our terminology was much more simplistic than my previous schools offense. I also liked how we signaled in the plays. #HogFBChat
A1: Our pass pro was much improved this year which allowed us to expand our offense and get the ball to multiple athletes we had on the field in space. #hogfbchat
A1: high leg/gallop step double teams. Easy for the kids to understand and get their hips together on double teams and have 4 eyes on the LB. #hogfbchat
A1: Got Away from the 2 point stance. Went to a 3 point stance. Worked on front recognition and learned how play with more urgency and aggression. Stressed being students of the game. Still got a ton to get done but we will get there but we laid a foundation. #hogfbchat
A1: Had some SRs not getting the job done had to replace them with 3 Jrs and a Soph. Made us a TON better up front. Also hit the SLED a lot more than the previous year. #hogfbchat
A1: One game we just ran two different run schemes until our OL gain confidence! Doesn't matter what you put on the board if the kids don't believe in themselves! #hogfbchat
Really hammered rules in all our base stuff. Helped guys understand scheme from TE-TE so the on the fly adjustments were easy. Fun year up front seeing them put it together mentally #HogFBChat
A1: We spent most of this year getting JV linemen and even a DE ready to play varsity OL and still make the playoffs.
We also had more opportunity to incorporate techniques from @OLPerformance#hogfbchat
A1: We simplified things on the offensive line, as far as blocking schemes. Not trying to make it sound simplistic but this really allowed our kids to just play and think less. #Hogfbchat
A1: Keep it simple, especially working with the young guys, show the basics and give them reps on reps. Also a lot of classroom work, I had to teach many of my guys how to watch film #hogfbchat
A1) inside zone steps were simplified. Didn’t get bogged down with multiple steps but instead worked eyes, staying on track, and pre-snap reads/calls. Definitely made a difference. #hogfbchat
A1: Worked on fundamentals everyday in fundy where it was pretty much perfect step for step, Drive for Drive. Really got better with our down blocks, something we just couldn’t seem to master at first. Lacked a lot of size. #hogfbchat
A1) Started some new drills based on some problems I saw we were having and the OL really stepped up and improved over the course of the season. #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat we got a lot better at buck sweep as the season went along. We we were even able to make an adjustment in game to pull our center instead of the frontside guard. We were able to just mow with our downblocks. Really fun to watch
That’s HUGE! I love the balanced stance. I’ll never understand being on the toes or on the heel. Weight on the insteps and DRIVE off the ball. #hogfbchat
A1: We were able to block multiple schemes. Zone, gap, pin and pull, etc. We were better in our gap scheme but going able to handle other schemes made it a bit easier to do what we wanted up front. #hogfbchat
A1) I was able to help introduce zone blocking to these northern IA boys. We didn’t implement it as much as anticipated, but got better each wk. I’m looking forward to ‘19…we’ll be athletic up front w/ a stable of dudes to tote the pill! Should pair nicely for IZ/OZ! #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat A1 We had a vet group and was able to add some flexibility in our assignments that allowed for hole adjustments on trap and counter. We used gut calls, far & away, calls like that allowed us to not flip the play but move out a hole to find a path of least resistance
A1: We were having some trouble getting to the 2nd level so we put in a couple 2nd level RPOs. Allowed our tackles to block man on ends and QB read the Lb that was making the play. #hogfbchat
A1: Scheme wise, continued to get better at executing our base runs (IZ, OZ, Power, Counter). Fundamentals improved and most importantly we had great energy and culture within the Oline group! #hogfbchat
A!: Simply constant improvement throughout the year, 1st year w/ Wing T, there a lot of moving parts that have to time out with the backs as well, and the timing just got better and better. #hogfbchat
A1 I stepped back and gave the seniors space for leadership. During film, group meetings and even a couple minutes after each series during the game. Then I would step in....I know I have a lot to say always but wanted to see how they would handle it. #hogfbchat
A1: Really drove home the " beat half the man" mentality on our blocks by understanding where the ball is designed to go each play. Really helped us up front #hogfbchat
A1. I really liked our use of cross blocking in our Belly Series and how our kids gained confidence in making their calls. Took some time as they were learning a new offense but when it started working Belly was our best play. #HogFbChat
A1: we had a few young guys who stepped in a got a lot of playing time. We were projecting 5 seniors up front, ended up starting 2. Those other 3 got invaluable playing time and high level reps. Should only benefit them moving forward. They will become leaders upfront. #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat A1: got my guys on the left side in left hand/foot stances. Helped me move better for sure. They were seniors and never had their left hand down ever
A1: picked up a little tweak to waggle protection at @MburgVikings wing t clinic that really helped us this year. Only gave up 1 sack all year #hogfbchat
In reply to
@CoachDingus, @CoachShiffman, @MburgVikings
A1) cont…Also implemented a skip pull to our Dart/Power play which that hasn’t done before. It made us quicker and got use downhill and attacking the LOS. #hogfbchat
A1: Also got a lot of experience for our younger kids. If they could contribute, they played. Had 3 freshmen and a sophomore that played a significant amount on Fridays. #hogfbchat
played a lot of young kids after playing a JV only schedule last year. We were outmatched physically at times, our kids never stopped fighting. Gave away pancake helmet stickers for the first time, and a stack of pancake trophy for most pancakes. #hogfbchat
A1) Taking over a new OL, my favorite thing was passing down the OL culture. Todays culture says ME is better than We! OL culture is “WE are better WITH ME” I believe good OL become great with attention to technique detail and learning how special this position is! #hogfbchat
A1: replacing our stretch play with the wide zone. More practice time to work on but it set up some big plays throughout the season. Averaged 4.7 yards. Shoutout to @thecoachvogt and his efforts in putting all the resources into a single book. I appreciate it coach! #hogfbchat
A1: also implemented the IZ and OZ this season, towards the end of the year our guys were communicating and got rolling. Helped us play a little faster as well #hogfbchat
Have done every combination of 2and 3 point stances. I love them all in 3point. Hoping our young T can handle getting in 2point on their own depending on situation. #hogfbchat
Yessir. Hard to explain over a tweet but definitely check out @OLPerformance there’s a lot of stuff on their website. Also look at their YouTube. #HogFbChat
In reply to
@RealCoachK_, @CoachDingus, @OLPerformance, @OLPerformance
See but everyone has different angles of power. I’m 5’11”, I performed MUCH better under a chute being that I was shorted and had more flexible hips than our 6’3” guard in college. But one on one he’d kill me because he was able to utilize his power angles and leverage #hogfbchat
A2: Win the league title back. Tough loss to end the season. To add to that, just better communication up front. Shot us in the foot at times. #HogFBChat
A1. Simplified the rules for the OL. Had daily drills and much more consistent with teaching this year. Our OL coach did a great job getting things going well up front. #hogfbchat
A2- we are going to run some IZ and OZ. Up front I’m going to add a new drill or two to change their routine. I’m going to add back the hammer for the biggest (legal) pancake block and I’m going to do sideline stickers for blocks 20+ yards downfield. #hogfbchat
A2. This year was a major change for me. I went from a small school to a big school, from coaching the OL to coaching the WRs, etc etc. Just looking to keep growing. #HogFbChat
A-1 we moved both of our starting guards (both 3 year starters!) to tackles and replaced them with faster more athletic kids. (We pull every play). We were worried about giving up that experience but they were able to adjust and help the new guys quicker. #hogfbchat
A1: Looking to simplify our run game to make us more effective. Want to be able to run the same plays with different personnel groups to make it easier for the OL. #hogfbchat
A2) Idk about change. I’m looking forward to continuing to implement the things that made us successful and get rid of the things that hurt us. #hogfbchat
#HogFBChat A2: I’m exploring option routes in the passing game. Ran RPOs with concepts, want less true concepts, just a couple concepts with options in them to attack any coverage!
A2: better use of Hudl sideline. Some games used it well, others we watched and critiqued film on sideline rather than seeing what defense was doing. #hogfbchat
A2: I should have had the guys hit the sleds earlier in the season. I was also a little bit too lax during practice. I’m defenitly wanting to add more juice and intensity to practice #HogFBChat
A2: weekly prep will be much different. So will offseason work and summer work. Have big ideas to meet our big needs. Must forge steel before sharpening the blade. Lots of hammer work needed. #hogfbchat
A2) would really like to add more group 1/2 line for slant/stunt work against a defense especially with the freshmen. The sooner we get them seeing moving parts the faster we can train their eyes to stay where they belong. Would love to get into midzone as well #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat We absolutely have to get better at power. Teams were just giving it to us and we couldn't take advantage of it. Guys were missing their targets left and right. Also might consider flipping our line to a strong and quick side.
A2: I personally let my energy level die down. Gotta keep up high energy. I also need to work my #SKAQ into my practice times. I’d like to work more on my guys’ drive-catch and definitely get them moving to backers better. We had a lot of backside run through. #hogfbchat
A2: We have to be more physical in practice. We MUST get stronger in the offseason. We must develop and harbor an environment to be mean and ruthless between the whistle. Competition breeds success. As far as scheme we are fine. Just got to fine tune. #hogfbchat
Want to learn more about skip pulling and master how to teach it. Our sweeps were tighter this year and feel like the shorter footwork could’ve helped keep the guard tighter and under control. #HogFBChat
Q2: Spend less time teaching who to block and spend more time on how to lock especially with IZ and OZ. Also need to be able to practice faster. #hogfbchat
A2: Actually, the thing I'm most excited about is not having to add or change much of anything, and finally letting our O-line gel with the plays we installed last year. (meeting w/OL coach pending of course, he might have some suggestions lol) #hogfbchat
We need to get better in pass protection, as we started to throw the ball more. Also, need to get better at running outoff tackle/outside. We ran pin and pull without much success. thinking about going to outside zone. #hogfbchat
A2: Being able to have all of the OL make adjustments with our various blocking schemes with the kitchen sink of defenses that are thrown at us. #GoPanthers#JerseyMade#TripleOption#hogfbchat
A2)Last year was year 1 of this offense, return 9 starters on O. Plus some young guys were forced into action. So not much change, just get better. #hogfbchat
A2: Still being new to the defensive side of the ball, I'm going to ask my fellow line coach @CoachBpattLBCC as many questions as I possibly can. Gotta get better! #hogfbchat
A2: possibly looking into the oline watching the sideline for the play (via hand signals) versus verbally from the qb and we need to work on maintaining our blocks #hogfbchat
Q2- Probably a few things but one I think of right now- I’m going to change trying to get vertical on our doubles to horizontal. Want our lead guys to be more nasty and try to knock their guy across into post man’s gap. #hogfbchat
A2) We have so much depth at the skill positions coming back I’d like to go even more uptempo and introduce more zone. It will pair well with our unique one back gap/read scheme. The #NoMercyTour in 2019 will be something else. #hogfbchat
A2: Well we certainly have to do a better job getting to the second level, we consistently did a good job at the point of attack but for us to take it to the next level this will be a point of emphasis this summer / fall. #Hogfbchat
A2: Looking to use chutes made of PVC piping for bucksweep instead of just using bags and cones. I want them to stay low and roll into their pulls. #hogfbchat
Running the triple option more than we did this year. We got away from it w/ the personnel we had. Believe we have the kids to run it more successfully in 19’. #hogfbchat
A2: always looking for ways to reduce unnecessarily wordy calls and make things even simpler. Also have been doing more research into Pin and Pull as an alternative to OZ. #hogfbchat
We were just starting to get those little nuances like when to widen splits, anticipating the snap count, etc when the season was wrapping up.
Most of our guys come back, so the little things will be a much bigger emphasis next year! #HogFbChat
A2: 1. Be able to correct more things player to player on the fly/apply rules quicker. 2. Be more multiple while staying simple. 3. Include more gap scheme. 4. IMPOSE WILL. #hogfbchat
A2: Offensively as a whole I want us to get great at what we do. Being a new staff we got our schemes in, we’ve learned our kids. But a year with them and now we can see what works for us and what doesn’t. We have the baseline. Now let’s get GREAT at what WE do. #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat Also really need to gain a better understanding of our rules and where the point of attack is on different plays. Often we got caught chasing guys who were over running the plays. Got to understand that we don't block "wrong ways" guys who are going the wrong direction
A2: Running the triple option more than we did this year. We got away from it w/ the personnel we had. Believe we have the kids to run it more successfully in 19’. #hogfbchat
We were just starting to get those little nuances like when to widen splits, anticipating the snap count, etc when the season was wrapping up.
Most of our guys come back, so the little things will be a much bigger emphasis next year! #HogFbChat
A2: Really want to focus more on fitting up blocks. A lot of the missed blocks this year were a result of having head on wrong side of block. This was difficult to teach going from a jet/zone team to a wing T team. #HogFbChat
Q2: replacing 7 seniors up front that started or played in more than five games on the way to a semifinal run. Going to have to have a lot of young guys step up and contribute fast #hogfbchat
Had trouble getting to the second level at times. Seemed to get caught at the line of scrimmage and “wait” for our block. Kids have a hard time understanding that never turns out to well. Need to be more physical. #hogfbchat
A2: we HAVE to work this offseason and get stronger and bigger. They have not had a good strength and conditioning program. That has to change. We MUST be more physical and honestly more mean. I have to figure out how to instill that in them. #HogFbChat
#hogfbchat A2: The way we run Counter. '16 we ran GT counter and wasnt as successful as we thought. '17 we ran G-FB counter & we had tremendous success. This year we went back to it (GT) and again had no success. I'm looking forward to having the FB lead thru after the BSG kick
Played with an OL that averaged 205 lbs. Really emphasized beating DL to locations with using quick precise footwork . We also preached the use of powerful hands and we overemphasized double teams to help with being under sized. #HogFbChat
A2: We need to incorporate more complex pass protection schemes, improve in the run game getting a hat on second level defenders and continue to get bigger, faster and stronger in the weight room! #hogfbchat
One other thing we did well was being good examples in our school our OL went to read to elementary kids and help with the life skills classroom. Giving back! #hogfbchat
A2: I believe every lineman in our program should know how to snap and long Snap no matter what position. Have to get back to that this offseason.
#Hogfbchat
A1 started to mesh together. Became way more confident with our blocking, we were able to put most our blocking scheme in.. Wolfpack mentality established #hogfbchat
A2: We need to focus on getting stronger in the #ironparadise and realize that when we cross the white lines it’s time to turn it up a notch, that goes for every practice as well as the Friday Night Lights. It’s easy to get amped up for FNL 🏈 #FlipTheSwitch#hogfbchat
A-2 we ran “stand alone” plays that didn’t fit into the sequential progression of our scheme. Evaluating if they are worth the time needed practicing/success in yards/tendency breaker(because it’s not sequential). Kind of at a crossroads with it... #hogfbchat
@FISTFootball totally forgot to send this to you earlier this year!!! There’s no better time than the present! Glad to have been able to see each other in our natural environment. Doing what we do best, coaching lineman!!! #HogFbChat#LinemanAreFutureLeadersOfAmerica
A2 cont.: Also need to be better at finishing blocks. Did a great job with fit and drive but let too many guys slip off blocks late in plays. Need to get a little nastier up front on offense #hogfbchat
A2 Need to make time for my guys to watch more film with me..they have HUDL at their fingertips but Fortnite wins every time. They are only going to watch it and learn how to watch it with me #hogfbchat
A2: We have to improve our physicality and toughness. Our guys played really nasty at times but we have to be able to do it from start to finish. #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat I would say they did a really great job. We were able to make halftime adjustments and they really caught on and it clicked. We also changed a few blocking rules throughout the season with success. Was blessed with with a veteran group.
A3)
1st year at this school coaching.
Players didn’t really have any changes from years prior.
Most changes were for me adapting to their system/ terminology to.
#hogfbchat
A3: Our kids are do what we ask of them. Effort was never there issue. They handle adversity well, so when things change. They roll with it. #hogfbchat
A3: Very well. We switched to the single wing this year so there was a lot to learn up front. Lots of adjustments to make for that especially mid game. Our kids did well adapting to it. #hogfbchat
A3: very mature group. Good trust between us. Explaining why something is done brings them into a conversation. They can give input to help them own it.#hogfbchat
A2# Not so much change but getting my LANGUAGE set. This is my first year transferring from straight OL to Coordinator. I learned that it’s important to get SPECIFIC terms so people can communicate with you what your needs and demands are #hogfbchat
#HogFBChat A3: they did great! Always preach to the kids “find a way to have it make sense to you” we take pride in making it simple! We made a lot of simple tags for the OL to identify who will pull based on their defensive front and pre-snap technique.
A3 great students of the game for the first year.. we were able to adjust well.. and adapt.. We added new wrinkles every week and they handled the changes #hogfbchat
A3- as long as I made the change to be more physical, they did fine. We fold blocked ISO late in the season and our kids loved it. Didn’t like the change to running for each penalty yard we got as a unit. Eliminated personal fouls until week 10. #hogfbchat
A3: Our guys did a great job. We had a different nuanced run play each week and they handled it great. It’s great to have smart guys up front. #hogfbchat
A3: They handled a new offense well. Especially one that can have multiple adjustments/rules each play some of the defense we get as a triple option team. #GoPanthers#JerseyMade#hogfbchat
A2: less scheme/concepts.. try and make what we do simpler. We need to get to where we have a "hang our hat" concept. Looking at only running 3 run schemes. #hogfbchat
A3: Our guys did an incredible on of buying in. Our staff and players have done a tremendous job building the culture we need. Couldn’t be prouder of how our players handle change and extra work #hogfbchat
A3. Our guys adapted really well. Had many guys playing multiple positions. Also we were able to expand a little of what we do since our guys up front played very smart. #HogFbChat
A3: slow/anxious at first for many things. Great group but need to be more confident to ask MORE questions going forward. “Teach it back to me.” #hogfbchat
A3) Very lucky to coach some very smart Hogs this year! Made adjustments very quickly and were able to block many different fronts this year #HogFbChat
A3: We only had one returner with varsity OL experience. So it was a major change for 4 of those guys coming up from JV football the previous year. It was rough early on. But once we started to gel, we played some really good football up front. #hogfbchat
Had some experienced guys up front and the center who came up from JV was a beast and really anchored everything in the middle. I could do a lot more this year than I have been able to in other years #HogFbChat
A3- had to shuffle guys around after 3 games. It took us a game to get it right but after that we went on an eight game win streak to the quarter finals #hogfbchat
A3: bumps and bruises. Both who amd physical, both player and Coach. We all got better this year. We will be a dominant force for seasons to come from what we all learned in our room this season #hogfbchat
A3- No issues. Of the 6 we had 4 seniors and a JR who played for us as a SO. Yes I count our TE. He’s basically an ET- extra tackle. They trusted what we were doing and believed in it. #hogfbchat
A3: I was the new guy here. It was a huge change for them. I am a very demanding and those guys bought in to what I was implementing and they did a great job with adapting to the changes that needed to be made. They handled it well. Lots on instruction #hogfbchat
A3: We started filming practices mid season, and it really made a difference for our OL. Especially during Inside Run when we could break down our assignments for the week, which helped with any changes we would make. #hogfbchat
A3: Being the first year as OLine coach at my school, our unit did things a little differently with hand placement, first step, etc.
Took a while, but we broke some bad habits! #HogFBChat
#HogFBChat A3: very well I’d say. Every single OL finished season playing a different position than they started. Converted DL to OG, converted backuP LB to C, movedstarting C to RT after ours went down. Flipped original RT to LT after injury. All of this after Week 1.
A3: we lost 4starters. Had guys play as many as 3 different positions. Wound up starting 3 Jr and 2 soph. Had over 600 yards rushing in last 3 regular season games from 100 % 10 personnel. I'd say they handled change quite well.
#hogfbchat
A2 we need to get stronger, more physical and meaner.. learn to raise our expectation and our stubbornness.. learn to dominate the LOS each play work needs improvement #hogfbchat
A3: think we had a pretty good group that knew we were all in it for each other and to be the best. Had multiple guys play over course of season. Said “love every one of you, but the best five will play and that could change every week.” Bought in to that. #hogfbchat
A3) Some injuries caused us to shuffle people around, mainly our sophomore, and even got a guy off defense and a tight end. As a unit then worked together for the common good of the team and had a few seniors step up to help lead and keep things focused #hogfbchat
I think through the whole season we had around 8 changes on the line due to Injury. My guys really handled learning their new assignments well. We put emphasis on you aren’t a position, you are a lineman that can play anywhere on the line #HogFbChat
A3: Took it all in stride and kept working. We have a great, young group of kids that just loves being together no matter what the situation. #hogfbchat
A2: Really want to focus more on making better use of our 0 Period (the 10-15 minutes before practice officially starts, and players lead position specific, non contact drills). ie. start, stance, get off... #HogFbChat
Q3: How did your OL handle any changes you made? A3: Fortunate to have a tough and smart line, they were young but communicated well and made adjustments easily. Great group and only losing 1. #hogfbchat
A3: I felt like our kids responded well this year to adjustments. Kids really started to handle changes within the games based on what they/we were seeing. I felt like they were understanding the game within the game welp. #hogfbchat
A3 we changed terminology, to one word calls for plays. In the beginning it was tough but once they understood what we were doin we were able to play faster. #hogfbchat
A3: Tried being as consistent as possible throughout the entire season so the HOGS can play fast. Sticking to our rules and foundation we built during summer camp was key! #hogfbchat
Q3: In game adjustments override anything that we have practiced during the week and the kids had to understand that. It’s just like anything else if you didn’t practice it or go over it, it is useless unless it’s a base scheme #hogfbchat
A3: Some kids are high rep guys and it takes them a while to get changes and new schemes. Some Kids can just pick it up like you have been practicing it for years! #hogfbchat
Our guys did a great job on changes that we made. With all of the preparation we did during the week with front identifying and quizzes throughout the week ,game day changes were not a problem! #hogfbchat
A3: when we had to make adjustments they did a fantastic job and rolled with it... They really took the approach of a growth mindset with any changes! #Hogfbchat
A3: Scheme wise we really didn’t change much as the season progress. If anything we only changed things to make things more simple. Personnel wise I had too put a tight end and Receiver on the line and they handled it very well. #hogfbchat
A2: We changed how we practice to increase reps and participation. We also had our freshmen lift with us this summer. Our developmental levels flourished. 9th grade went 8-1 after a struggle in their 8th grade season. #hogfbchat
My apologies to whoever shared this with me first but within the last couple years this PVC Chute Build was shared with me. Figured I’d pass it along! #hogfbchat
➡️ https://t.co/z18PPq5NMz
A2: Looking to use chutes made of PVC piping for bucksweep instead of just using bags and cones. I want them to stay low and roll into their pulls. #hogfbchat
A3: Kids handled these well. Scheme changes were just minor tweaks, always talked through/drew up/showed these to my guys in film study and on field walkthroughs. #hogfbchat
Looking to simplify terminology, with this being my first year as a coach I tried to use terminology I had in college. I had to learn and adjust that with high school athletes that haven’t been taught that way. I want to try and use universal terminology for the OL. #HogFbChat
A3: More changes will be made in the offseason. I expect leadership from our unit. I told them I will hold them accountable for other players on the team. It starts with them. We will have leadership training. We will be the leaders. In the classroom and field. #hogfbchat
#HogFbChat A3-
Super receptive to them bc they had input. We would talk about everything. Our kids really had to know the WHY of what we were doing. Once I could explain that and they could see it was beneficial they were all in. I had these guys for 4 years, that helped a ton
A3 Cont - hopefully we don’t change a lot. I return all 5 starters and my next 2 backups. 3 all conference kids. Can’t wait to get them going! #hogfbchat
My apologies to whoever created this, my memory escapes me, but this PVC Chute Build was shared with me sometime within the last couple of years. Figured I’d pass it along for anyone interested! #hogfbchat
➡️ https://t.co/z18PPq5NMz
A2: Looking to use chutes made of PVC piping for bucksweep instead of just using bags and cones. I want them to stay low and roll into their pulls. #hogfbchat
Our guys had to adjust like crazy. Late in the year we saw a lot of 404 front from teams that were even front all year. Got the 50 look and the stack look out of the "tite" front. #hogfbchat
A4: When we gave some other guys real opportunities to start. Our starters were not getting it done so we did king of the boards and found some undersized dogs who fought their guts out. #hogfbchat
Week 8. Should have been long before. But that was my fault. Learned a lot from this season. Will grow and be infinitely better years to come. #hogfbchat
A4: reg season week 2. That game they came alive against one of the best teams in the area and proved to themselves they really could contend #hogfbchat
Prior to my arrival we only did slide protection. I implemented true kick slides and gap protections. The AHA moment was when we communicated and picked up a twist without any film of it that week. First time we saw it for the season out of that team. #HogFbChat
We incorporate footwork drills during pre-practice that was held by upper class men. They taught the JV guys how to go through the footwork while helping them become servant leaders. Providing key feedback and opening the channels of communication from Sr’s- Fr. #HogFbChat
A4: Week 2 actually. We had a 1 vs 2 ranked match up right off the bat and were very concerned about pass pro. Kept the qb clean and put up 56! #hogfbchat
A4- When Jr. High season finished up and I got to be at practice with them full time. Splitting time between the two cost us valuable time. Once I got back our intensity increased and so did our performance. #hogfbchat
Had one kid who, after repping kick blocks all year, finally pulled out of there and mashed the EMOLS. No better feeling in the world (almost)! #HogFBChat
A3: week 3. Had tough opponent and guy ground it out. Put together and had big night rushing. Kept it up for rest of season for most part. Very few sacks and ran the ball in 4th to end games. #hogfbchat
A3 - very well, all things considered. We used 5-6 different combinations of starters without skipping much of a beat. Changed a couple schemes which went...ok #hogfbchat
A4) I wouldn’t say me, but the kids started to accept coaching and we started getting the results we wanted. Just need to build on last year and keep it going. #hogfbchat
#HogFbChat A4: we actually went into a game with our starting QB hurt, put in a single winner package and the OL had a great game! They showed a lot of heart and physicality that game!
#hogfbchat we figured out the power. The debate between the skip pull and the bucket step was raging early on. Eventually went with the skip pull as that's what the boys who won that job did best. It hit quite a few times
Honestly I don't know this group is really coachable and hard working.. probably we'll one we dominated our opponent that they saw how technique makes you better #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat Our "AHA" moments came each week. We really picked plays throughout the season that we wanted to focus on that week and our line really gained from it. We also worked it with our backs so our backs started to get a feel for where our line was opening the holes
A4) Lots of little moments but getting hit in the mouth by a team we had no business losing to really woke us up. That happened week 6 and we came back and played our best ball in the weeks following. Improvise, Adape, and Overcome. That’s all we ask. #hogfbchat
A4: Pin and pull schemes to get outside, fold blocks when running IZ. We were young up front and a little undersized. Really helped us play our angles and leverage better. Really saw our run game take off when we started doing those things upfront. #hogfbchat
A4) We had a new OC/OL guy come in and he simplified the steps and worked more horizontal displacement than vertical on playside of zone and was willing to have PST turn out more which allowed us to get 2 in a gap more often #hogfbchat
A4: had an athletic, junior OT that was new to OL. Had been starting to get the Dart pull down but lacked the physicality. Midway into season, it clicked in a big region game. Met the LB in the hole with some nastiness and finished! #hogfbchat
A4: I’d say when competition increased and when they knew that technique wise I was putting them in the best position possible. I like to have an open dialogue with my guys. They can ask me anything, especially about why I coach things a certain way. #HogFbChat
Week 5 when we had the 37 carries for 492yds and 5 different backs scored. Fun night when they saw it all click. Finished strong with 3300 5.53 on the ground in a downhill run offense. #HogFbChat
Q4: At what point did you have an “AHA!” moment with your offensive line this season and things started to click? A4: When Backs and Line requested Power from the field!! Began to take pride in the ground and Pound game!! #hogfbchat
A4: When we started to focus more on the power run game. It simplified what we were doing at made our guys "think less". When that happened, we started to play better football. #hogfbchat
Q4: couple of times throughout the season in which we lined up in heavy sets & ran it down peoples throat when we needed too. Very fun aspect for me but seeing the kids begging to run the ball over and over again definitely had our entire staff and team fired up #hogfbchat
More so a team culture changer. We began going through mental skills training & visualization sessions before our games. Our first game doing the visualization session we came out the gates blazing. Then the boys played harder to help get the other boys into the game! #HogFbChat
A4- In our last game we rushed for almost 600 yards and had probably 200 called back on holds (some questionable). Absolutely dominated LOS. Huge “AHA” for our returners. Will reference that night a lot this offseason. #hogfbchat
A4: when we put the right guys on either the strong side or quick side. We shuffled the personnel a bit during the season. Once we hit league everything fell into place. Oh and when we decided to run Power more😎😎😎 #hogfbchat
A4: late TD against a county rival on a Duo look AND moving the ball against the biggest team in our county in a hurricane mud bowl (check my media tab) #hogfbchat
A4: My "aha!" moment with the o-line clicking was when my young bucks responded positively to my seniors. No one had an ego (not that many o-linemen do) and communicated effectively on the line all year! @JonJonRamirez64@Shalash_43#hogfbchat

@CoachShiffman, @JonJonRamirez64, @Shalash_43
#hogfbchat A2: pass pro was an issue especially in 5 man protection. We started to get away from identifying defenders pre snap very early in the season and it hurt us throughout. Need to improve that next year
A4: week 6ish (way too late) when I inserted a freshman into the starting lineup. The 2s and other guys realized I didn’t care who you were, the best (and the present...) would be the ones who were out there playing. #HOGFBCHAT
A4: Went to WAR with a great team in PSJ (Port St Joe) came down to the trenches. Kids really believed in the system and fought hard. Things started clicking after. #hogfbchat
A4. I think most of our “aha” this year came from our OL coach being able to marry up rules etc. @CoachVolk does a great job of getting whoever we throw his way ready to play. Had two RB’s end up playing C and G for us. #hogfbchat
Logan Wyrick - Head Coach - Humboldt HS - Humboldt, KS -
I know I’m super late, for some reason I thought it was a good idea to help coach middle school basketball again this year!
#hogfbchat
A3: Playing the defending 5A State Champions in Week 3. We had some success against them. Our pass protection was phenomenal. We started to get it figured out. #hogfbchat
A3: I think the biggest key for your athletes to able to handle changes is to be able to speak the same language as you. They must be able to see what’s happening and be able to explain what they are seeing. This helps tremendously when making in game adjustments. #hogfbchat
A4: Week 4 & 5 we had some great games running the ball and we were able to just impose our will and for the players I really feel it was a 💡 moment! #Hogfbchat
A4: Going back and seeing our day 1 install be our most successful plays. Listening to the guys up front speak their mind about what they love to run and it being those day 1 plays. Huge impact on this coach #KISS#hogfbchat
#HogFBChat A4: still waiting on it lol jk. But probably when everyone started to understand the SCHEME as opposed to an assignment. As we know, your assignment can change on the fly, if you understand scheme and where everyone fits into the “puzzle” then fancy Ds dont scare ppl.
A4: Did quite a bit of up-downs due to “when we would put our hands down debate”. Then I thought to myself if we go down on Ready those hand pressure/white knuckle readers on defense will be clueless.
#Hogfbchat
A4- I had tried to change our footwork on OZ and it just wasn’t working for my guys. I swallowed my pride and showed up to Monday INDO and told the guys “we are going back” they loved it and really bought in. We turned back into a really good OZ team. #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat A3: any significant changes we made came at their suggestion. Had very good communication with our young group and they analyzed in game and made suggestions. We had a good young group that's only gonna get better
Yesterday we had a great pre-game Mental Skills session. Spearheaded by Phil Collins “In the Air Tonight” during our guided imagery session. Followed by some of our MST curriculum. These young men were laser focused & won 38-8. Allowing 50 Yards on Defense. #DarksideD#AgogeMade
A4: our AHA was when all these freshman found out that playing the game hard and physical is fun. Our defense became known as the “Hit Squad” after week 3. #hogfbchat
Buck Sweep has always given me fits. Hasn’t been a part of the scheme I’ve coached under for a few years now but I’ve got PTSD from years back lol #hogfbchat
A4: biggest “AHA” moment last 2 seasons for us up from has came when kids finally decided to start communicating. Need to continue to really preach to them about talking to each other #hogfbchat
A4 I dunno the whole year was fun when I told them let's get to work.. like the confidence they had and the fun they showed.. it was year round after that... #hogfbchat
Kevin Wilkison. Team Free Agent. Looking to get back in the game next fall! Always here to help and learn! Sorry for being late. ‘Family’ issues had to help take care of. #hogfbchat
Or another moment was when all five of my guys can come off the field and tell me what they have seen. In the preseason it was difficult to communicate fronts and blitzes because of a lack of football IQ. But to see them grow and be able to talk football was amazing #HogFbChat
A4: 1/2 way through the season, our speed, angles, and pad level became consistent, and our RBs figured out how to follow the blocks being made for them once the blocks became consistent. We went form 8 pts a game in the first 4 to 41 points a game in the last 5 #hogfbchat
And that's all she wrote! Thank you all for being here for the fastest hour on Twitter! We appreciate everybody who participated/Lurked/Commented! You are always welcome at the #hogfbchat
A3: it was rough at first. I asked them to put everything they learned about stance and footwork and put it on the back burner. By week 3 or 4 they started to click and for an undersized line they moved bodies pretty well. #hogfbchat
A-4 talk to the guys during a TO and they all start talking like I’m in a coaches meeting. Guard and tackles talking scheme and what if’s, RB’s talking to the TE’s about J blocks. Compared to the beginning of the year when you get a bunch of blank looks, it awesome. #hogfbchat
If anybody has any topics/questions/Host ideas for the chat, PLEASE do not hesitate to DM myself or @CoachDingus and we will do our best to take care of those during the chat season #hogfbchat

Always a pleasure with the #HogFBChat! It’s great to spread the wealth of knowledge within the community. It’s useless trying to hide knowledge, and it’s ignorant to not attempt to learn. Evolve or regress, there is no stagnation!
Good night gentlemen! Fastest hour on twitter! I will leave you with my favorite prayer! The Husker Prayer! It was a great tool when we did loose this season. They really felt the words.. “If we should loose, will stand on the road and cheer as the winners go by!” #HogFbChat 8-1
You lose sight of who you are when you focus on what others are doing. It’s our F.A.M.I.L.Y. vs their team. Focus on us! Become the best version of yourself! Grow daily focusing on glorifying Christ! #SomethingSpecialGoingOnAtSFHS#AgogeMade
A4 the day we finally figured out power. Our guard pulled around and delivered a big hit on our DE that made everybody stop and stare at the beautiful running lane created. Could've gone 3 wide through there. It was a beautiful thing #hogfbchat
To HS Football coaches in Texas, how hard is it, to get a Texas Teaching Certfication, if you already hold a teaching Certification in another state. And how long does the process take? #Txhsfbchat#HogFBChat
A4: By week 3 or 4 we were coming alone well. We had to make a change a center and that threw them off. Center moved to tackle but took the move like a champ and they started to gell again a week or two later. #hogfbchat
A1: stopped giving a scouting report. Had a C, G, and T present portions of the scouting report to me and their teammates. Amount of film study went through the roof. #hogfbchat
Greatest feeling in the world is to be an Offensive Lineman!!! We come to work, expect nothing and work for everything! The offensive line is everything that is right with society! Kids learn to deal with adversity & learn that working together can get you through #HogFBChat
A4: We were in inside drill and the center said coach we don’t have enough guys to block the backside backer. I said you’re right... let’s scrap that formation. That let me know that he was a student of the game and his understanding of the scheme was expanding. #hogfbchat
A4) When an OL admits to giving up a sack WHEN HE JUST GOT OFF THE SERIES! Anytime I can ask a player “what happened on that play?” and he admits to giving up a sack/tackle for loss and says WHY he got beat. “WOOOO! “ “I can fix this!” #hogfbchat
Sad I missed #HogFbChat but I just got back from a mini vacation in Mexico.
A2: I just read Chop Wood Carry Water and will be making a weekly curriculum for my players. Tons of very good life lessons in the book, some were new to me!
A2: I’m also going to get in shape and stay in shape next year. I always gain weight during the season and feel like my energy level decreases as the season progresses. Can’t let that happen. #HogFBChat#selfreflection
