Hello, my name is Chae-Yeon. I am currently studying Primary Teaching in Auckland, New Zealand. I am looking forward to learning something new in today's chat! :) #ctetlchat
Parent from West Hartford here.
A1) We need to define what we mean by "screen time" when it comes to limits. Soon we'll see much more of the world through screens. The question is whether it's an enriching or harmful experience. #ctetlchat
A1: I think that when setting limits on screen time, teachers and parents need to be mindful and considerate of setting boundaries on what websites/apps etc. are being used during those screen times! #ctetlchat
#ctetlchat I think part of the problem is that we, as educators, see screen time though both a positive and a negative lens. Many parents see only the negative.
Some things obviously don't "count," like FaceTiming with Grandma. But as soon as we make distinctions it's worth exploring the value in anything they're doing. #ctetlchat
A2: To set a couple of specific tasks that students can choose to work on. Then there is a clear purpose, direction and intent in the process/work. #ctetlchat
#ctetlchat The same can be said for use of social network tools. I have seen Facebook and Twitter be used as powerful learning tools by students. Any tool can be used in the positive way. It is how it is integrated and used.
A3) As a parent, I put a lot of value in communication and understanding why something's being used or learned. So do a lot of sharing online; show the results. #ctetlchat

A3: I believe that there is meaning behind everything that is done in the classroom. As the teacher, having a clear idea of what you want the students to learn/get out of the activity is crucial. With this, this can be talked about with parents #ctetlchat
I agree that by having a progressive and open communication platform with parents, both parties can learn from one another and see from different perspectives. An opportunity to consider different views #ctetlchat
Should be done continuously, especially as new tech is used. Sharing S work and showcasing it in a digital open house. Websites and teacher communications. #ctetlchat
