#PLN365 Freedom Writers... "It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you tell kids they're stupid--directly or indirectly--sooner or later they start to believe it."

A1 Come to my school because our "why" is doing what's best for kids! Ss are empowered to use their voice and have choice in how they show their learning! #pln365
Hey everyone, Chris here. Former nuclear submarine operator, turned adult educator, turned electronics engineer.

#pln365
A1 Because there are a lot of different student led activities going on, daring to be different and promote student driven classroom, in my creative space #pln365
A1 I love coming to school to connect with kids and staff and families to make sure that we do the best that we can for and with them. I believe if you do that, everyone will keep coming back. #pln365
A1: See my movie because you will laugh, be encouraged, get inspired, leave motivated, and also laugh. Really, you’ll probably just laugh. A lot. 😂 #pln365
A1: The stars of the movie feature a guy who was never supposed to be here but was able to successfully defy the odds. He is surrounded by a star-studded cast that always believed in him and invested time in his growth and development. #pln365
Q2) Every movie has a moment when the protagonist had to overcome conflict that will change them forever. What is/was the conflict in your story? How will/did you overcome it? #PLN365
A1 My movie is set in a whimsical world where anything is possible. Sort of like this. The star is a woman who has the power to transport you anywhere in the universe #pln365
A1: I want to see EDU disrupted!! I want the students who never liked school or felt at home in a school to see non-traditional strategies & highly engaging teachers and can show them, there is a place for them. #pln365
A1: Actual assignment my kids do every term 😊. Helena Bonham Carter plays me in Some Assembly Required (I tell my students they have to get to know all the roles I play in life to really know me). Come see us to know us. We do #life in my room every day. #PLN365
Q1) You are about to make your movie debut. Tell everyone about the star(s) of the movie (you) and why we should come see your movie (classroom/school)? #PLN365
A2 Times when the backup plans to my backup plans failed, or when I did not handle a situation well, and in both there was a great amount of learning and self-reflection involved, #pln365
A2: As a senior in HS I had a T realize I really didn't understand phonics-I knew enough to get by and read, but I did a lot of skipping of words and my spelling was in the tank. She gave me a scrap piece of paper with icons - 32 yrs later it is still a huge inpact on me. #pln365
Q2) Every movie has a moment when the protagonist had to overcome conflict that will change them forever. What is/was the conflict in your story? How will/did you overcome it? #PLN365
A1: Although not in the classroom anymore, I'm doing some collaborative projects with #STEM / #STEAM educators to bring real world experience to the classroom.
Submarine stories and nuclear power can be pretty cool topics #PLN365
Q1) You are about to make your movie debut. Tell everyone about the star(s) of the movie (you) and why we should come see your movie (classroom/school)? #PLN365
A2: The conflict is the naysayers. The negative nellies. The toxic drops in the bucket. Ignore, model the positive, power on, stay focused, and ignore some more. #pln365
A2 The conflict in my story is being able to provide effective feedback to staff. I will overcome the conflict by having the staff help hold me accountable. #pln365
A2 Sometimes what comes out of my mouth should have stayed in, or, more often, my face needed to stay neutral. This is still the middle of the movie on that problem! Haven't figured out the solution yet... #pln365
A2: I was given the opportunity to move from the classroom to becoming the Head of an international school that was struggling to retain the trust of all stakeholders. #PLN365
A2 Adversity... Attended UF while the serial killer was making a name for himself... Refused to leave town like most... Took precautions and believed it would be fine... And that belief paid dividends... And every day I am grateful to be here! #pln365
A2 Pushed from his comfort zone, he finds a new place that makes him rralize people are AMAZINg and each human has a uniqueness forth championing! #pln365
A1. Because the stars of HGS ask ourselves two questions every day. 1). Would I like going to our school? 2). Would I enjoy being in my own class. #pln365
A2: The conflict of my story I would say is anxiety. I use to worry constantly that I was not enough. I try to rework the anxiety to help me do my best but I don't always win. #pln365
Q3) Every movie has a twist that builds suspense and keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. What is the twist of having you as an educator/administrator? #PLN365
A2) Being an inexperienced first year teacher last year, fresh out of college, it was hard to be taken seriously by my co-teachers when suggesting strategies and activities. Overcame skepticism by backing suggestions up with research and being persistent & consistent! #PLN365
Gary, former supt, now a provider of PD in creating classrooms of character. Life is too short to spend time with people who suck the happiness out of you #pln365
A3 I'm not just a tech coach pushing the latest app. I care about student learning, social emotional learning, and your "why" behind your "what"! #pln365
A2 the star did not get the dream job that she wanted, tears were cried, then she put herself together and overcame. Has become the type of teacher that she wished she had in school #pln365
A2: Work in progress. Only theatre teacher in the district. Working on overcoming the frustrations of others not understanding or supporting the importance of what I do. Guess there will have to be a sequel...#PLN365
Q2) Every movie has a moment when the protagonist had to overcome conflict that will change them forever. What is/was the conflict in your story? How will/did you overcome it? #PLN365
A1. Because the stars of HGS ask ourselves two questions every day. 1). Would I like going to our school? 2). Would I enjoy being in my own class. #pln365#MarshmallowChallenge
A3 I'm hopeful our staff would say the twist is that they never know what I will do or where I will be. I'm predictably unpredictable, but always searching for what's best for our kids. #pln365
A2: I went to five elementary schools by the time I reached fifth grade. My family moved around a lot and it was difficult for me to find consistent friends. Socially I was a late bloomer, but for a long time I have been learning to be confortable being uncomfortable. #pln365
Q3) Every movie has a twist that builds suspense and keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. What is the twist of having you as an educator/administrator? #PLN365
A3: My twist is that the students in my school never knew WHO was going to show up, nor do workout participants. Sometimes I have my ukulele, other times I'm dressed up or a puppet has me coming along. It's always a different hook to keep it fun. #pln365
A3 Sometimes I just
totally scrap an idea mid-class, or will develop something on a whim of creativity, and see how it goes, not afraid to take risks #pln365
A3 You show up expecting to push buttons, You leave (hopefully) with a love of performing and passion for GREAT music. Not from the class from what you found out about yourself. #pln365
A3 I have a reputation for being a difficult T because of my high expectations. Therefore Ss expect me to focus solely on academics and they are surprised I am so open and honest with them while encouraging their success. #pln365
A3: with more stability and an articulated vision, my school will emerge as a leading international school demonstrating a continued commitment to inclusive education and authentic learning experiences. #PLN365
I shared this with staff so that we can hold each other accountable. https://t.co/TGPZ9Zj58m
And I wore this shirt because I couldn't bring sparklers into the school. #pln365
I work to let my kiddos know this also, and that I still struggle at times. They may not always believe me, seeing that I'm a teacher. But I really do have the empathy to truely understanding their needs. #pln365
A3: That I am not set on any idea but more the outcome. If they take us another direction we go that way. They laugh that we never do what I "want" but I have fooled them lol #pln365
A2: Starting out in adult ed, I was teaching people who had been operating the power plant literally longer than I've been alive.
I started out getting zero respect. Instead of shying away, I leaned in further. I took their feedback to ❤️and kept pushing to get better. #PLN365
Q2) Every movie has a moment when the protagonist had to overcome conflict that will change them forever. What is/was the conflict in your story? How will/did you overcome it? #PLN365
A3 My twist is that I am an art educator that uses visual texts such as illustrations, paintings and films to teach comprehension skills and writing skills-works well with striving students too. (Book comes out this December)! #pln365
A3: I am a total introvert (guess defined as ambivert because of my job). That is a shock for people to discover. They try to disagree, but I am also a very good actor 😏. #PLN365
Q3) Every movie has a twist that builds suspense and keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. What is the twist of having you as an educator/administrator? #PLN365
A3) I will not tell a student not to do something (unless it is harmful or dangerous to them or to others). I will always encourage giving something a go even if it leads to failure! As my Dean says, "have a go at it"! #PLN365#risktakers
A3: The twist is the discovery that success isn't universally defined. It doesn't look, feel or sound the same for everyone. There are many ways to demonstrate success. The passion and persistence to spread that important message is ferocious. #pln365
A3: another twist in working with me is that I don’t care about who gets the credit. I truly believe that it’s not who is right, but what is right. #pln365
A4: I want students AND staff to know that play is our brain's favorite way to learn, to give them permission to let go and play, to fall down and bounce back up, to savor every second of every day. #playheals#pln365
This is where we dig deep to find confidence in our ability that we did not see before, hunker down and power through. Real grit builds character #pln365
A4: The biggest takeaway is that we keep moving forward to create the culture that we desire. We do not allow others to label us and dictate what our future will be. #pln365
A3: My twist was always doing lessons differently. I got out of the classroom as much as possible.
In-the-field training and lab training were ways I would shake up training. I'd also flip the lesson and have them run the show. #PLN365
Q3) Every movie has a twist that builds suspense and keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. What is the twist of having you as an educator/administrator? #PLN365
A4 Resilience, determination and action are the keys to overcoming the speed bumps in life. If you can't go over it, find the way around it. There is always a way if you want it bad enough and are willing to work for it. #pln365
And The AWARD goes to…YOU!!! Thank you for coming out tonight. Have a great start to the new school year. Stay tuned to for the special announcement. #PLN365

A4). I choose to be a public educator because it is a calling on my life. I serve to show HIS love to those around me. #NotForMoney#NotForGlory#ForKids#pln365
A4: What I think people might learn from my movie is that it doesn’t matter where you start, what matters is that you have the next horizon in mind and that you love the journey more than the destination. Be Relentless! #pln365
#WOW@D4Griffin3 cast a great picture for the year! What does your journey look like now? Thank you @PaulONeill1972 for the opportunity to chat. #pln365
A4: I was always shooting to get people to buy into the idea that learning can be fun.
Our corporate and technical training was mandatory and it was a battle getting students to buy in and enjoy it #PLN365
A4: Consistently demonstrate that I care about the well-being of those affected by my words and actions. Realize that if we want to gather honey, don’t kick over the beehive. #pln365
We are so excited to join forces in Chicago for Empower 19. @D4Griffin3 and @PaulONeill1972 have been waiting patiently to make this announcement. It's on! 🔥 #pln365#CultureEd

A4) Just remember... just because you lack the language (English) to express yourself, doesn't mean you don't know or can't do anything! You already have a whole world in your native language and that's a LOT! #PLN365

A4 The take away from my movie is that the arts are academic and using visual art to teach comprehension skills and writing/communication skills is 100% underutilized as an educational tool. These Access Lenses help to make the connection between the arts and literacy. #pln365
Loved it. Have missed the last couple of weeks because I was asleep at 7:30am because of summer vacations! but definitely missed the quick bursts of #PLN365 Tweets and will be making an effort to participate more in the upcoming weeks now that we are back in school!
