I do use coding in my first grade. I love SCRATCH JR for beginning coding but I also guide staff members in their rooms.

SCRATCH is out of MIT and is open to people of all ages. SCRATCH Jr is out of Purdue and is a sheltered system

Coding uses a lot of reading strategies, sequencing, sight words, etc.

For 3rd-5th i would use Hopscotch because it uses animation, blocks like SCRATCH and the Ss can see the Java script

We have dash/dot, sphero, and bloxels in our makerspace. Ss can use them 1x per wk if they wish
