What is the University Model?
Been thinking that an Edcamp PD would be better than a University Model. Under our union rules it would force participation.

We allow Ts to design their own PD for the year. Has to b new&have a direct impact on their class. Those r the rules

We held a building-wide that helped introduce people to a lot of new ideas. Many now taking PD classes in , , etc.

Right now, most of school-based is mandatory & aimed at clsrm. Ts. We have done one style that Ts liked. Want to do more.

PD at my school isn't optional unless there is a consultant who comes to work w/specific groups or only volunteers can participate.
I see a lot of people saying teacher-driven. Absolutely! My principal asks us what we need and seeks that out for us.

. Small district, you sit through what they offer. Not much in way of choices. Need to go outside for specific needs.
Love the model, enthusiasm and ability to choose works to bring new people in and raise level of excitement
PD has to be pull and not push! When it's pull there is so, so much more interest and engagement!

Completely agree. Before we do edcamp like PD sessions we send out a survey to find out Ts interests.
First answer to how was my weekend: Great! I went to EDcamp on Saturday. 2nd answer: finished book I was reading.
I sign up to present at state conferences. Then I encourage them to laugh at me. ;)

Our district has been doing a lot of in house training. Training teachers to go back and train others in their building

I'm on the fence on this. I used to think choice was the key, but I don't know if the right info is making it through.
We also have something called SIPs for small doses of PD started last year by . 30 min of PD given by Ts. Options abound!

Something to remember: when we go to conferences, it's not over until we share our learning with our colleagues.
The most challenging PD is compliant listening to speakers for hours without any activity or follow-up.

We are going towards the direction of offering more choices. Teachers' natural strengths & talents come out when they love their PD.

I try to find the person at school who knows the thing I want to know and buy them a coffee. PD doesn't need to be formal.
PD Goal: to be more excited about education than before the PD. Personalized, focused on choice topics & with passionate educators.

The best PD is teacher sharing and anytime we can take it directly into our classrooms.
I think we need to consider the observation process in this. Teachers should be guided towards PD in their feedback. Guide them.
