A1. Blended learning is attractive to me because, when implemented well, allows for greater differentiation opportunities for Ts. A1.5. My hesitation is that, like with most things, there’s scant time available to train Ts. #NoVAedChat
Emily here from FCPS!
A1: Blended learning provides opportunities for choice, personalization, and feedback from the teacher.
A1.5: Feeling like I'm never up-to-date on new tech tools and worrying that things will flop when I try them. #novaedchat
A1: I love the idea of personalizing learning for each kid. Blended learning makes that a reality. I also enjoy a challenge, so learning something new and pushing myself to do more is a bit of fun. #novaedchat
A1: Engaging Ss and meeting them where they are; A1.5: the myth that blended learning means all tech- it is all about trying new things/making mistakes/learning w/ our Ss #novaedchat
A1 I love how blended learning provides opportunities for students to take control of and assert their preferences in learning AND allows teachers to work with individuals and small groups with much more frequency! #novaedchat
Debbie, SBTS at Vienna ES
A1: I love how it incorporates choice and giving students a voice in their learning. It allows more different types of interactions.
A1.5: Finding time to plan and do blended learning well #novaedchat
RE 1.5 - I think this is always a challenge when you are iterating and trying new things! I was listening to a teacher talk this morning about how failing is only failing if I give up and don't try again. Same thing here. And an opportunity for modeling mindset! #NoVAedchat
Hi from PWCS! Checking in for my first #novaedchat
A1: I think anyone who sees the impact of blended learning done well could disagree that it's the future of education and reaching a diverse population
A1: I am very interested in Blended Learning because of the capabilities it possesses with Ss learning. The ability to use a station rotation model with Ss opens up so many capabilities. #NoVAedchat
A1 I live by the idea that we can always get better... and blended learning provides so many opportunities! I'm not a person to do the same thing over and over... always need to reflect and improve #novaedchat
Howdy everyone!
A1: The excitement of seeing all students engaged in learning of course! Blending helps us differentiate while keeping things fresh for the students (and ourselves) #novaedchat
A1.5: The fear is not so much mine, but the Ts I am trying to get to venture out into it to help their Ss. I'm finding that for some it is the lack of knowledge, others the fear of not knowing, and then for others the fear of giving up control. #NoVAedchat
Q2: There are many models, or ways that Blended Learning can look in schools/classrooms. Which one are you most interested in or which have you tried? #NoVAedChathttps://t.co/VPTx8U50ed
A1.5: I hesitate when I wonder if the output is going to be worth the setup or organizational effort of an activity. That’s when I need to use my growth mindset and remind myself that it’s okay if my first attempt isn’t my best #novaedchat
A2: In the math classroom, station rotation always seemed to have the most potential for me. Merging that with the math workshop model (thank you @jallardmath) seemed so natural. #novaedchat
Oh I get it because for a wile when I was in the classroom that was me. Though once I let go the magic I saw with my Ss never made me want to go back. #NovaEdchat
A2. I’ve used flipped classroom when I was still there, and have seen stations. @BryantFCPS Ts tend to create their own models that combine stations with individual supports. #NoVAedChat
Giving them learning opportunities like the ones you want them to give kids is critical. We all need to have experience before we try it in our own work. #Novaedchat

I think about the professional learning we designed and led at CHS - it evolved over time, we collected our own data, needs and feedback and adjusted and improved for the next year. The progression is pretty awesome to look back on now! #NoVAedchat
A2: I have used flipped assignments especially in math and paired that with stations. But lately, I have been using blended learning to enhance student to student communication with tools like #Padlet and #Flipgrid#novaedchat
A2: I do love myself some flipped classroom! That’s really how I got started down the blended path, by trying out FC in PE. Lately I’ve been coteaching with classroom teachers and using way more station-rotation #novaedchat
A2: Teachers at my middle school are really fond of rotations and choice boards. I think they serve our age group and access to technology well #novaedchat
A2: I don’t think there is one best model. I think you have to use what’s right for your students. The learningobjects the subject and the teachers style. Personally anything that puts relationships, student ownership, feedback and mastery at the center #Novaedchat
I love this site to share models and see what might work. Sometimes its a combination that works best - remember that the instructional goal is always the driver!! https://t.co/KHLPtZU1qh#NoVAedchat

A2: I really like the Station Rotation Model because I feel it is that "Goldilocks Zone" of implementtion of Blended Learning. It's the perfect Vygotsky approach. Model, coach, Let go. #NoVAedchat
I think another possibility to consider is that you can do an in-class flip. Requiring out of class work or video watching can amplify inequity our students may be facing - do they have a space to work? do they work or care for siblings? #NoVAedchat
And so important to communicate to Ts that they can and should modify the models for what works best for their learners! Takes the pressure off executing “perfectly.”
As a wise mentor once asked me, “Are you teaching your 5th year, or your 1st year for the 5th time?” I’m with you, year to year should be different to meet the needs of your current students.
A2: station rotations have been my go to. I love working with my CT to create different pathways for Ss to learn. It’s been a game changer for differentiation too! #NoVAedchat
A3: I like the Station Rotation Model best because as I said it is that perfect balance. It allows the Ss to ask Qu's from the T, then practice and try, then create something to represent their understanding. It is also a natural fit with Guided Reading/Math #NoVAedchat
A3. I initially experimented with flipped classroom after discussing with students how they might like to learn. They preferred short video lectures and more time in class to get peer and teacher support. So, I guess it solved a logistic and learning issue. #novaedchat
One of my favorite PDs so far this year utilized this exact model! 🙌 The three station rotation is a great one to use, especially if you don't have a co-teacher but want to maximize the time you're meeting strategically with groups! #NoVAedchathttps://t.co/g10TV641Xq

A3: these models work bc of the different level of abilities in the classroom. Ts need to meet them at their level and scaffold them up. #blendedlearning can do that #NoVAedchat
A2: station rotations have been my go to. I love working with my CT to create different pathways for Ss to learn. It’s been a game changer for differentiation too! #NoVAedchat
A3: being in a primary school...individual rotation model allowed Ss to choose based on their interests as well as give them different ways to try something and expose them to what’s is available. #NoVAedchat
A3: Station rotation works well at my school because we have put such a large emphasis on our use of workshop model. I’ve been able to help facilitate blended stations while the classroom teacher meets with small groups or manages other activities #teamwork#novaedchat
A3: I think the station rotation allows works well because it allows for both face to face learning and personalized learning opportunities. #novaedchat
I think it’s another case of what’s good for the kids is good for the Ts. They need to get up and move. @MsDushokMath and I tend to pick a different model each time for PDs just to mode it for our Ts. #NoVAedChat
A3: I like choice boards because students are self-selecting the extension or extra practice they need -- ANY self-selectionis more palatable for Ss than being told what you have to do by the teacher #novaedchat
A1: I really like putting students in the driving seat of their own learning. They learn things (and teach the rest of the class/me things) that I never could plan on my own #NovaEdChat
I share this often - Learners who are used to passively learning and being praised for compliance often go through adjustments as they learn new routines and expectations #NoVaedchat
And we pull back the curtain and do it intentionally. We want the Ts to see us as risk-takers and willing partners in learning. Would never dream of asking them to do what we wouldn’t try. #Novaedchat

I figured they probably knew how they preferred to learn better than I did. I was right on that, and what I learned was that being able to watch a video on their phones was easier for the athletes on buses and students who were responsible for childcare.
A3: I like a PBL approach to Blended Learning because it brings in the benefits of both worlds. It's also a flexible model that can be used with my different levels of access to technology #NoVAedChat
A4. The best way for a teacher or coach to get started with blended learning is to find a great partner to take the journey with. Having someone to share the load can help Ts and Cs take more risks... and reap more benefits. #NoVAedChat
I share this often - Learners who are used to passively learning and being praised for compliance often go through adjustments as they learn new routines and expectations #NoVaedchat
A4: When I am working with a T who is trying to do something for the first time, I always tell them to start with the area/subject you feel most comfortable with because it will allow you for focus on the implementation instead of both content and implementation. #NoVAedchat
A4 The big question is what are we trying to improve? What is our learning target? What do we want students to do? Figuring out those big questions can get you started! #NoVAedchat
A4: Find a friend/colleague to take the journey with! So grateful for my teammate @kdreyer12 & @TechyMargaret esp. Just beginning to collaborate w/ @PhelansNotes & excited to learn more #NoVAedchat
A4: Be willing to give it a shot and continue to tweak, edit, and refine as needed-Organization is key for me. Ss should know exactly what, when, and how at each station. Creating dashboards to project is helpful to make sure we’re all on the same page #NoVAedChat
A4: I think adding an element to a lesson that a teacher is already comfortable with can be a good first step. "This is a great activity; can we add this level of enrichment or another choice?" #novaedchat
This is HUGE! The most successful Ts I have implemented with had a teammate on their grade level that joined in with them. The bouncing back and forth of ideas was a huge benefit. #novaedchat

A4: At the risk of gross self-promotion... I typically teach a workshop on using WebQuests for PBL-based Blended Learning through the @fcpsaap institutes. #NoVAedChathttps://t.co/GwN2EYeV3G
A4: I think the journey starts simply, like I’ve heard @TechyMargaret say before, by trying just one meaningful thing. Could be a hyperdoc, could be a flipgrid assessment; it doesn’t matter. And then REFLECT on the wins and how it could be improved #novaedchat
A4: As a coach it is so important to sit with Ts and meet them where they are. Start by talking about who the Ss are & what the learning outcomes are. Then consider model & learning tasks will get the Ss there. Collaboration makes it happen! https://t.co/nVx3AprKAE#NoVAedchat
A4: Consider how we might take a lesson or something we have an idea how to teach and then plan opportunities for students to practice #FCPSPOG or #4Cs. Students need opportunities to practice! #NoVAedchat
Q5: Connecting to our conversation last week with @nprietti & @kelly_freiheit, how might Blended Learning support Personalizing Education for learners? #NoVAedChat
There are so any resources available. I think a good start is with the Rotation station model. I've used in Elementary, Middle, and High school and it works well at all levels. #novaedchat
A5. Blended learning is partially about student choice. If Ts also help learners understand their specific needs, a good blended lesson can be personalized learning. #novaedchat
Q5: Connecting to our conversation last week with @nprietti & @kelly_freiheit, how might Blended Learning support Personalizing Education for learners? #NoVAedChat
Definitely finding the positive there! Several of us have spent many commutes chatting on the phone and reflecting and processing @alison_costanza@leslieleisey#novaedchat

A5: Blended learning allows students to move at their own pace and meet their individual learning needs, while also allowing more individualized time with their teachers #novaedchat

A5: As we blend more learning experiences, we touch on more learning modalities and connections. At the heart of personalized learning, this is what we are searching for in the process. #novaedchat
A5: Something I want to start working on, just need a partner @HamptonOaksElem or a #StaffordITRTs, is creating blended learning/personlized learning opportunities for the Ts. This way we can get them to see how impactful it is and they will want to implement. #NoVAedchat
A5 - Blending can support personalization in a number of ways: with more choice and opportunities self-pacing. Can also help T’s see where their needs are. I always liked using @edpuzzle and seeing which ?’s my S’s needed to repeat. Helped me know what to review #novaedchat
A5: How Persolaized Learning and Blended Learning are connected is they allow the Ss to work on content at their own pace. This allows them to master the content and gain confidence. #NoVAedchat
So I wonder if you might connect with an #FCPSsbts for this work? With Google we can work together when we are apart - my best thinking partner and I have planned PD, conferences (and weekly chats btw) while we are 530 miles apart #NoVAedchat
A5-pt.2: Just saw this w/ a PBL unit on Frankenstein- one of our Ss w/attendance issues didn’t really care for the novel, but boy did he love researching the scientific controversy w/ self-driving cars! @kdreyer12#NoVAedchat
A5: Blended learning and personalizing education go hand in had. Blended environment can give more one-one time with students and small groups. You can also set up personal learning menus. https://t.co/3cOl8GjtkU a grad school project about this topic. #novaedchat
Q5: Connecting to our conversation last week with @nprietti & @kelly_freiheit, how might Blended Learning support Personalizing Education for learners? #NoVAedChat
A6: Reflect on how my online carousel brainstorming activity goes in my #TeacherLeadership cohort tomorrow, and seek feedback from participants! #novaedchat
A6. There are several! Our English department @BryantFCPS has asked @FCPS_Signorelli and I to do some research into academic discourse strategies. And, we’re participating in the #etcoaches slow chat each day. #novaedchat
A6: I've been putting a lot of brain power into thinking about how to restructure PD. I won't take any action this week, but this conversation is definitely helping to frame my thinking #novaedchat
Thanks for joining us tonight! Make sure to join in again next week when we talk about Democracy, Diversity, and Opportunity with @Commemorate2019#NoVAedchat
