A1: Cover 3. I coach women and foreigners and it offers simplicity and flexibility. At this level, most teams aren't also as prolific at passing so playing 2-high as a base isn't necessary #425chat
A1: has been as press c2 due to the timing disruption of the #1 WR which allows for the DL/Blitz time to get to QB and helps the SS/FS lean hard on the #2 WRvertical

A1: Our base coverage is match quarters. We feel this matches to any route concept. Although, we turn anything “fast to the flats” into 2 Read and let the corner blow up the flats. If the route extends past our “fast to the flats” rule, we just simply play match quarters
A1: 2-Read/Blue or whatever you want to call it. Both corner and safety read number 2 to determine their responsibilities. Nickel will play flat if he's on that side. Keeps us fluid, not a static, and we can get a lot of movement pre-snap while staying that coverage. #425chat

Our 3x1 adjust is solo as well. We also play trace which is the same but we use the star to lock up #3. 3rd option is special, lock up #1 and play 2 Read over #2 & #3. #425chat
We will be transitioning from a 2 press to a match zone, feel it will help us become more productive in the passing def and allows us to insert an extra box defender faster #425chat
Q2: Have you made some tweaks or alterations to the traditional versions of your base coverage? What was it and why’d you do it? #425chat don’t forget to put A2 in your answers!
Our base coverage is what we call Sit ✓. Not a certain coverage. FS is making coverage call based on formation & field position per game plan. Allows FS to make our calls against any formation to get us lined up right which is my #1 priority
A2: yes as stated earlier, from a 2 press into a match zone(2read) due to Offensive Commies getting better at coaching WRs and being 7v7 gurus. Helps with the Cs vision also.
#425chat
A2: I don't know about tweaks to our base calls, this was my first season in this system. We added 2 calls if we were defending trips, giving us 5 to play with. But I wouldn't call that adjustments to our base. #425chat
A2: We tweak our coverages by alignment. We try to hide what we do in the secondary. Our alternative answer is a press quarters to give a different look. Make the offense think, they have to decide if we are 2 man or zone. We mix and match press and off to disguise. #425Chat
A2: I'm a novice coach, but mixing up the defenders that play the deep zone responsibilities in our C3 is a really simple tweak to 'disguise' a coverage and for newer players, help them learn other positions/understand different responsibilities in the defense. #425chat
A2: Press #1 with the Corner Disrupts timing of routes while still staying adaptable. I believe it is easier to press a lesser kid than ask him to play Off-quarters. Other is to bracket a receiver and play man to the others. Split-field and triple calls help with this #425chat
A2: Not so much makeovers, but there are a series of tweaks built in to the install that are are made on the fly depending on things like playing to the field vs. boundary
#425Chat
2 Read -Corner comes off vs #2 to the Flat like everybody else. One rule-breaker is vs Qk Screen to the #1 WR. Instead of making a "China" call and dropping back, he will jump the #1 WR and the Safety will play #2 vertical if he goes. Can't stand getting nickel & dimed
#425chat
A1: love split field coverage with the safeties making the call for their side based on tendencies and number of receivers. Rarely call coverage from the sideline.
A1- Only thing adjusted from our base and how I learned it I tighten down to the boundary and more off to the field. We also have a invert call usually made against 2x1 to the 1 WR side. Usually to give a blitz look or get the $ in the run game quicker.
A2. We switched tech from BP to shuffle with DBs. We tweaked our qtrs coverage into the short side of the field with a " Wildcat" call which put us man on #1 with DB then FS & $ ran 2 read #425chat
Coach, what base coverage are you in for you 2-read? As my CBs get better, I like to have them start 2-reading/pattern matching out of Cover 3. #425chat

A3: Solo. Let that poaching Rover take #3 vertical. If they start running weak side. We call trace (same as solo, but star backer mans #3), walk backside Rover down as a down Rover to protect weak side alley #425Chat
You learn by experience. We played a team with a WR that went to Marshall and they killed us one night on Qk Screen to the #1 WR. Never again...
#425Chat
A3: We had 5 coverages for trips. Our go-tos were Vert & Solo, but also had Special, Dallas, and Man. Vert & Dallas were pure zone, Solo & Special were hybrid coverage. #425chat
A3: we have been a tamp2 concept where the MLB will run with the vert of 3 to help allow time for backside FS to get to him and let the C and SS play 1 and 2 WR. OLB rule: inside of 2 and outside of 3 leverage, C press 1 outside in #425chat
A3-invert call to single side. $ in the box(cut pass routes) CB over top. Have a man and banjo concept to 3 WR side. Base is 1/4-1/4 and half. BS safety has a read to tell him when to rob the MOF. #425chat
A3: 2 man. Play man on outside guy and 2 on the other 2. Love to man up one of them or play a cover 3 look. I do want to try to keep the bs safety where he can stop run on the other side. #425chat
TCU terminology I believe. We give our corner rules. Vertical of 1 past 8. If 1 runs a route less than 8 alert flat defender with a China, in, or out call. If safety tells you wheel sink and look for a wheel route out of two, while safety looks for curl/post of 1.

A2: We tweak our C3 alignment v Trips (LOVE IT v Trips), buy not many other tweaks. Interested to hear/see some C3 tweaks others might be doing. #425chat
Yes, it is. Not dumb at all, I need to be more specific. It's a cross between Quarters and Cover 2, depending on what the #2 WR does. #2 Vertical - plays like Quarters. #2 to the Flat - plays like Cover 2.
#425Chat
A3: depends. best cover corner if they like playing the single to the field to get space. like running to the weak side, best tackling corner with the weakside safety helping with bracket coverage #425chat

coverage is a hybrid zone/man and we have the ability to match their best athletes with our best athletes. However it really depends on what they are trying to do too. Stay balanced in a 2 high to protect against weak side run and to be sound vs the speed option away #425Chat
We love doing this as well. If we get a route in the grey area of our “fast to flats rule” we make China call and the CB sinks, letting him be a true quarters deep player. We also do the same as you guys with the wheel. #425Chat

Thanks! I've been reading lot of @The_Coach_A to learn Match Quarters. Just waiting to face a team/coach at the level where I need to start coaching it. #425chat
We would have the base call that we liked for the week, but if it wasn't working, we'd signal the call in from the sidelines. They could run any coverage at any moment. #425chat
"Midpoints" - Safety treats #3 like his #2, robs 2 on a shallow by 3. Corner zones off on the midpoint of 2 and 1 reading in that order for a vertical. Overhang walls 2, Mike walls 3. Backside can be any check we want by game plan - C2/C3 or Press 4. Keeps a +1 vs boundary run.
Play qtrs to trips side man away. If trips is to short side of field we play "wildcat" as stated earlier. We take our BS $ and okay him over Bgap for BS run support. He will also run to #3 to cover posts or skinny posts as we see lots of that. Let's FS help vs run. #425chat
A1: We ran tried multiple coverages this season and quarters was what our guys were most comfortable in. Depending on the scheme we are facing I like getting into read 2 and cover 3 as well. #425chat
No adjustment. Under front. Depending on RB alignment that changes who has B gap away from RB and coverage to single side depends on RB align. Triyo coverage to 3 WR side.
A3: Beauty of the 4-2-5 is the flexibility to take away what opponent does best. Vs Trips, if I need to Dbl the single WR, I can run Special. If I want to have a Safety down as my Force player, I can play regular Quarters. We can also run 2 Trap to the Away side.
#425Chat
A3, im playing w a trap concept to trips, solo on single side. Bail the FS and DS, $ drops to shallow outs, C hard flat killing bubbles. Mike is a wall player, will plays h/c on weak side and doubmes as a force player. #425chat
A3: We adjust our front against trips to help the weak side run by stacking the will over the wk E. Mostly this helped weak side option reads that we saw a lot. Coverage adjustments are read 2, read 3, or an adjusted cover 3 locked on the boundary side. #425chat
A4: Wide dividers
Puts flexed out Overhang in a bind. Fix is an alignment check that gets us out of our normal rules and brings him back to the box.
#425Chat
Wheel and deep middle pass wise. I’d drill wheel and deep middle is just that oops spot that kids will forget every once in a while esp if an OC sees it. #425Chat
A4: Out of 2-Read/Quarters, the vert/out. It's hard to rally up to that 7-10 yard out for the CB if he's dropping with number 1.
Out of trips, the RB flare to the single side, our linebacker has to make a run/pass read while not letting the back get outside of him. #425chat
Rep the quarters-beaters every day! You should do this no matter what coverage you run. But it’s all about Eyes-Feet-Hands! Eyes are the most important, when they fail or we fail to communicate coverage will struggle
A4- hitch by #2 to the boundary and short crossing routes if LBs are not right. As a DB guy I like to feel comfortable with the deep and outside throws. Bad eyes and slow feet will get you beat every time.
#425Chat
Out of 2 read...I’m worried about smash because it forces communication with the corners and OLBs. Also 2 vertical with no reroute by the OLB-that can expose our safeties. 2 running a 10 yard out is tough too. #425chat
A3: We're C3 and give a "solo" call, bumps ILB to inside of #3 (how far depends on split, since he's pushing to 3 anyway), takes away hot! $ hu on #2... backside WS bumps to edge of box, maintains Bgap or edge responsibility (call dependent), gives us the same box count! #425chat
Q3: I feel very strongly your base coverage should work against trips. We teach our robber safety to read the release of #3 whether slot, in-line, or in the backfield. That way we don’t have to check out.
they always say those deeper outs are tough throws to make, do you find that to be actually true at the HS level? I assume if it's near hash, maybe not, but what about far hash? #425chat
In qtrs the wheel stop route by wheel receiver. We just repped it and gave the DB a landmark help him determine if it's going vertical or the stop. #425chat

A5: We play a tight 2 Read, however it is really switch man. Every one is manned up, but if the receivers cross or try to rub us, we must communicate and take what comes to us #425Chat
#425Chat A1). I am a cover 4 guy. It allows for a 2 high look at all times and gives you a 9 man box against heavy run teams. But really I like whatever coverage our kids can run well.
Weakside Corner is our best cover guy, we trust him to and he's used to playing by himself... so he's/we're confident. Especially with WS running underneath on pass read. FS never lets vert cross his face, strong corner is over the top of any vert his way #425chat
A5: We are almost exclusively man unless we knew a team was going to run a pick play. Then we worked eyes, communication, and reads to switch man responsibilities. We also would bring pressure to get the ball out quick. #425chat
A5-press man but defenders need to play levels. We like zero with pressure. We do teach a different style of press on the goal line. Wed Indy is for goal line 1v1 (slants, fades, rub routes).
#425Chat
A5: Depends on what kind of GL the offense is giving us. The most simple answer is to say man coverage, but that gets muddied when the offense comes out in the Maryland-I or some funky heavy package. #425chat
With where we are at in So Cal and quality of QBs we face, they can make them and hurt us 100%. Also, play action with a roll out, which allows 2 a possible clean release. At that point it the field is just as open as the boundary 10 yard out. #425Chat

A5. We play what we call 2 Lock. It's our base front with our weakside 5t moving to a 4i and we bring our Eagle backer off the edge strong side & bring worst man cov. $ off edge weakside. Play 0 man. #425chat
