Hi! Rebecca-school psych, from Ct- interested in PBS and social-emotional learning!
A1: we need to be prepared so we know what positive behavior responses we will use & so we are ready to respond appropriately.
Helllo! Sorry my internet is slow today I'm ready to learn!
A1: You have to set the tone of the classroom to give the students the expectations for learning.
A1. PBIS sets the foundation for all other learning and establishes classroom climate.
A1 want Ss to enjoy school positive behavior supports get us there!
A1: Because children work best when they know they are successful
A1: To create an environment where students feel comfortable learning and sharing.
A1 This year I wasn't prepared with a pbis system bc I wanted us to come up w something together and I wish I'd had a plan going in
Hi all! Early Childhood Educator in N. Texas
A1: it really sets the climate of the classroom when there's a positive environment. Being prepared is great!
A1: it is a proactive approach embedded in relationship building rather than a reactive, authoritative approach
A1 helps to keep you from being caught off guard
A1. ECE sets the foundation for the future. For us, we're the first 'away from home' experience
Hello Jaime joining in a little late, busy twitter evening! Positive behavior gets S buyin, shows you care and reinforces positives
A1: They need to know what they are doing well and correctly. We all strive on positive interaction.
A1: Because you want to be proactive and not reactive to behavior situations
A1: 1st school experience sets the tone for the rest of their Ss lives. Hate to say it but it is true. Positive modeling a must!
A1 Students need to know what they are doing right, negative talk does not help them learn the correct way to behave
A1 positive behavior supports sets up a classroom environment that is positive & being prepared to support all of our students
A1 Its a that will transform school culture and change lives.
Hola Abe. Welcome to I hope you are well. ; )
A1 cont'd Ts need to build relationship w/ Ss. Research does not support punishment is ineffective.
A1 Essential to have clear expectations & build (genuine)POSITIVE relationships
Cassandra Apple Teacher works with PreK-12. Focus on PreK this year!
A1 There will always be some students who don’t respond to the typical curriculum or classroom management. Always
TRUE. It all starts with you. Adults set the tone. https://t.co/9IErb2fPNA
A1: 1st school experience sets the tone for the rest of their Ss lives. Hate to say it but it is true. Positive modeling a must!
Welcome Jennifer!! Hugs ; )
A1 what you focus on the most is what you get + or - might as well be plus!
A2: Find st's interests. Collaborate with parents to find more about the student.
A2: I always conference with the student to get info about their favorite things, perspective of self, & to build a relationship
A2 usually reach out to other teachers for fresh ideas and perspective.
A2 the biggest thing my Ss need is time - to diffuse, reflect. So I have sand timers the Ss can take when they need to "get away"
leaning on others in tough times is critical. Sometimes we need that different perspective.
That's right! Learning form other educator's techniques.
A2 cont then I can check in with them to see what was bothering them or if they need to talk to someone
A2: with the S and P, I develop a positive behavior plan & have the S choose one behavior to improve. We make a contract together.
A2: Look that student in the eye and state clear understanding of the request And upon refusal, state they R choosing a consquence
A2 Build relationship w S, identify motivators, triggers, give feedback, and create incentives to help S reach goals.
absolutely especially when it's a S you struggle with sometimes your blinded
A2. Seek supports. Check in with PBIS team and Behavior Coach for outside opinion/feedback.
A1 This year I've had really great conversations with the S's village - former Ts, administration, specials Ts, family & the S!
A2 build that relationship so you have that trust. Remember not to take it personal and students is need of additional support
A1: Positive behavior supports help relieve stress and anxiety in students, creating a more ideal space for learning
A2: Give the some time to reflect and cool down. Sometimes having them talk about the issue will get them more upset!
A2- Try 2 determine what occurred before the behavior. Solve the mystery. Is student frustrated/overstimulated/sick/tired?
Preach it https://t.co/BEBAjJmq7a
A1: Important to create a positive view of education & learning in using negative supports destroys the love of learning
A2: I love that! I'd add, to get a goal from the student, something they'd like to work on https://t.co/F98NyQz4O8
A2: I always conference with the student to get info about their favorite things, perspective of self, & to build a relationship
Hello, Margaret from NC.I teach 2nd in a PBIS school, 14 years, NBPT candidate
A2: Get to know what works for each individual Ss. What may work for one may not work for another!
A2: Time to dig deeper! Peal away the layers that could be hiding something; ask a lot of questions and listen
for sure. Taking a step back and consulting with others brings a new perspective and understanding.
A2 Don't assume they know the behavior expectation. Teach the expectation. Might take multiple re-teaches!
A2: First, I like to figure out the function of the Ss' behavior. Why are they demonstrating the behavior & how can I help?
patience, patience, patience. It often takes time.
Yes all behavior serves a purpose so what is the purpose?ABC chart! https://t.co/gE6EosD60p
A2- Try 2 determine what occurred before the behavior. Solve the mystery. Is student frustrated/overstimulated/sick/tired?
A2 Time for a parent conference find out some answers students always have a story behind their behavior listen to theirs
A2: Sometimes you have to sit under a table, listen, observe and just try to think big picture. They come to you from all walks.
🙌🏽🙌🏽 https://t.co/ipMLeSgQgT
A2: Time to dig deeper! Peal away the layers that could be hiding something; ask a lot of questions and listen
Continued A2: Remember to take a step back, we never know what happened that morning or the night before.
A2: We have to also ensure it is not attention seeking behavior. If it is, finds way to give them positive attention time.
A2 Consider Function of behavior; what other factors affecting the student on a given day; Offer choices!
A1: So it can start day one! Students should be greeted with positive everyday! Common language and visuals is key!
I know a teacher who provides an Isolation oasis which is a coloring zone to cool down/be alone if the S chooses.
Assume nothing! I reteach and reteach every day our expectations. https://t.co/jPW6H1dlj5
A2 Don't assume they know the behavior expectation. Teach the expectation. Might take multiple re-teaches!
A2 Just like learning-each S responds different. Finding something that works for each S is a constant struggle-but a must!
that is such a key piece to understand and support Ts and staff in recognizing.
Attention-seeking or avoidance?
A2: A st is being defiant, misbehaving, etc, but he just lost both parents in a horrible crime. T must know this.
A2: Our program uses CICO as a tier 2 intervention when our common PBIS supports are not enough. & join in
YES! Listen! Just listen! https://t.co/qinKFvbN2m
A2: Time to dig deeper! Peal away the layers that could be hiding something; ask a lot of questions and listen
A2: Reach out to parents and discuss possible solutions. When you work together with the parents the SS will benefit more.
so true - being a good listener is key
A3 We take ABC data. Figuring out the why and when helps us with customizing supports
A2 Hope RtI interventions kick in ie. find interests, remove issue, find intrinsic motivations, keep ideas positive & not punative
A3 we have MTSS/RTI process but first step is documentation, then going through other steps as necessary
TRUTH! https://t.co/bdSht147Ch
Continued A2: Remember to take a step back, we never know what happened that morning or the night before.
A3: All about documentation, observation, and accommodation trials.

Welcome. So glad you could join tonight.
A3: We use and have a CI/CO system for tier 2 and 3 behavior interventions. Seems to be working great so far! 👍🏼
A3. Set the tone right away. PBIS lessons starting day one of school. Teach-reteach-remind throughout the year.
the feedback given to students using CICO is very powerful. .
A3: Our first step is an Individual intervention - different for each child; then a restoration mtg to restore relationships
and holding students accountable - consistency is key!
A3: Documentation is key, then you can move on from there such as RTI.
A3 Our counselor also pulls small groups for social skills lessons
A1- Ss do as you do not say, so modeling and catching examples of positive behavior is key for them to see https://t.co/sCLGvNTTBj
So true https://t.co/g1mvjfH3lm
A2: Get to know what works for each individual Ss. What may work for one may not work for another!

silly question - what is Tier 2 and 3?
A4: Authentic praise and redirect phrasing. Also not a prize for every good behavior.
We also collect ABC data. It’s helpful for reflection. We add D- for duration too. https://t.co/Jbd9pDECtX
A3 We take ABC data. Figuring out the why and when helps us with customizing supports
A4 CI/CO, social skills lessons, Daily Behavior Report Card, Tier 3- move on to individual lessons and more check ins a day
we do this for BIPs and FBAs
It's our tier 11 intervention based on building relationships and checking in with students frequently! https://t.co/rSV40xhffw
Not silly. It’s just a way of defining deeper supports & interventions. Tier 2 is more of a small gp approach
A4: Check In Check Out delivered by Behavior Coach, Social Work Groups, Principal Student plans.
