One of my favorite quotes is "If you change your space you change your mindset" M.Kish. One of the best ways to get started with #blendedleanring is to start by changing the layout of your classroom. Think about setting up space with flexible seating #cfisdchat
Shelby Swancoat - DIHT @CypressParkHS. Happy to be here! One of my favorite quotes: “Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.” #cfisdchat
Hello Ms. Cindy! I love all of the flexible seating that the Dean teachers got for their classrooms. I can not wait to see it in action. #CFISDblended#cfisdchat@clorenz678
A1: teaching atudents through different methods, while incorporating choice and technology. Ts are facilitators and students drive their learning. #CFISDchat#WeAreSalyards#SwashBengal
A2 Its a hybrid of traditional and tech driven learning. Its goal is to increase student engagement and help students learn in a non traditional manner. #CFISDchat
A-1 Successfully using technology and traditional classroom methods to reach every student and give them multiple opportunities to drive their own learning. #CFISDchat
A1: #CFISDChat I define blended learning as a combination/balance of a traditional classroom with a more innovative classroom where it is also a student driven classroom.
A1: I use the definition from Michael Horn. Blended learning allows the students to work at their own PACE, PLACE, PATH and Driven by Data. Now how we deploy that concept into the classroom leads into the Three Phases of blended learning. #cfisdchat#blendedlearnig
A1: Student choice and voice in their learning. A variety of learning styles and paths. “Old school” and “new school” stirred together to create an engaging place for student growth and success. #cfisdchat
A1: #CFISDChat I define blended learning as a combination/balance of a traditional classroom with more innovative strategies & technology. It also appears more student driven with different learning methods.
A1: blending traditional teacher direct-instruction with indirect instruction using technology as a “teacher” to provide for student choice and differentiation. #cfisdchat
A1: Definition of #blendedlearning — a blend of old school teaching with new age learning that is delivered to students in an authentic way that’s differentiated in a way that meets the need of each kid. It’s learning that’s on each student’s own pace, time and way.
#CfisdChat
A1: a mixture of online and face-to-face learning where online or technology enhances, improves, and transforms the learning. Individualized and teaches students of varying learning styles #cfisdchat
#cfisdchat A1: To me, Blended Learning is using data to support your instruction allowing for meaningful differentiation in your classroom. Giving students opportunity for voice, choice, and path through the use of different learning studios.
@MrsHankinsClass I love the blenders. You are correct, it is a mix of the traditional with the technology that allows the students to learn in their own way! #cfisdchat#cfisdblended

#cfisdchat A1: To me, Blended Learning is using data to support your instruction allowing for meaningful differentiation in your classroom. Giving students opportunity for voice, choice, and path through the use of different learning studios.
A1 create a learning environment for all learners. It allows you to differentiate, allow for S choice, and creates metacognition in learners! #CFISDchat
A2 because you are giving kids a choice in their learning they are more engaged. Any avenue of learning can get stagnant but with blended learning you’re appealing to all kids. #CFISDchat
A2: it allows us to meet students where they are at and create lessons to spark learning. It also allows us to tap into our creativity side to help students take ownership over their own learning. #SwashBengal#WeAreSalyards#CFISDchat
A2 In giving students choices, they are allowed freedom to move at their own pace, while still completing required assignments. This keeps students involved at their level and willing to grow. #safelearningenvironment#cfisdchat
A2: When students have choice in their learning and we are able to meet them where they are they become more engaged. Learning is less of a struggle. #cfisdchat
A2: it increases their engagement because, when done well, it’s made FOR them! Students choose path, place, pace. And it’s fun! Who doesn’t like fun?!? 🤷🏻♀️😉 #cfisdchat
A2: Choice, Voice, not one size fits all, Ts talk to each student EVERY day, flexible learning environment, lots of different activities and tasks, appropriate tech use.....I could go on! #CFISDchat
A2: At least for social studies, the student are actually doing something besides listening to a lecture. This is always an issue in social studies classes for some reason. #CFISDchat
A2: I believe that once the students start to take ownership of their learning, they become more engaged. Plus #blendedlearning in Phase Two provides learning differentiated learning opportunities #cfisdchat#cfisdblended
A2: When students have a say in their learning, that automatically increases their engagement. We have seen so many great things with #CFISDBlended classrooms, where students want to come and discipline is down...because they have a say!
#CFISDchat
A2: BL increases student engagement because it involves teaching a concept in various ways. Instead of paper and pencil students can be creative, learn how to problem solve and communicate with others. #CFISDchat
A2: #CFISDChat By creating multiple learning paths/methods, student controlled pacing & choice. Students can work at their level and not feel pressured regarding rigor that they are not ready for.
Blended Learning = student-driven, teacher-facilitated, organized chaos (😅) that allows for flexible re-grouping, incorporating tech tools, Ss to self-pace and take ownership over their learning experience #CFISDchat
A2 In giving students choices, they are allowed freedom to move at their own pace, while still completing required assignments. This keeps students involved at their level and willing to grow. #safelearningenvironment#cfisdchat
A2: it increases their engagement because, when done well, it’s made FOR them! Students choose path, place, pace. And it’s fun! Who doesn’t like fun?!? 🤷🏻♀️😉 #cfisdchat
A2: BL increases engagements my classroom because students love the choice to manage their learning and let their passions shine, the extra time in small group with me, and the engaging technology options #CFISDchat
A2 Blended Learning increases elements of choice. It creates an environment where students can work at their own pace and drive their own learning. It also allows for us to pull students into small groups so students are more engaged with us #cfisdchat
Phase 2 with checklists is the way to go!!! It allows students to move more at their own pace than Phase 1, but Phase 1 is a great place to start blended learning. #cfisdchat@dsdPD
A2: it increases their engagement because, when done well, it’s made FOR them! Students choose path, place, pace. And it’s fun! Who doesn’t like fun?!? 🤷🏻♀️😉 #cfisdchat
A2 Students have choice in the way they are learning & the path in which they are learning. It also provides movement & a variety of different activities helping Ss remain engaged as they move from one activity to another #CFISDchat
#cfisdchat A3 Blended Learning allows for student engagement by allowing students to have a stake in their learning. Students have choice in their path and are actively involved in their learning.
A2: At least for social studies, the student are actually doing something besides listening to a lecture. This is always an issue in social studies classes for some reason. #CFISDchat
A2: in addition to the self-pacing and choice that others have mentioned, blended learning lets me give direct instruction in smaller groups, so I can group strategically and differentiate based on student needs #CFISDchat
A2: #BlendedLearning increases engagement because students have choice in the what and when of their learning. We implemented playlists with our entire class today — not one interruption or disruption — and it was Monday and we had a schedule change! #cfisdchat
A2: choice in path, pace, and place all equals engagement! Ss take ownership of their learning and feel empowered to make decisions about themselves as learners. #cfisdchat
A2: I believe that once the students start to take ownership of their learning, they become more engaged. Plus #blendedlearning in Phase Two provides learning differentiated learning opportunities #cfisdchat#cfisdblended
A2: #CFISDChat By creating multiple learning paths/methods, student controlled pacing & choice. Students can work at their level and not feel pressured regarding rigor that they are not ready for.
About an hour until our chat with Marcia Kish (@dsdPD) on blended learning! Make sure to tell all of your friends to join us at 7:30PM! #CFISDchat@CyFairISD@cfisdcia
A3: I think it helps when you can move students around and set up stations but its not necessary. I had 27 desktop computers that did not move and I was able use blended learning. #cfisdchat
A3 in some ways. Having less access to technology and kids not having phones does affect being able to have all kids on at once unless they’re in groups. I have done rotation stations as well, anything to make it work! #CFISDchat
A3 its all about proximity! Where are kids proximity wise-- what stations are setup for them? Are they working in partners or pairs? Where is teacher led instruction happening and is it conducive to conversational interaction with kids. #cfisdchat
I love the phrase, “drive their learning”. Such a lightbulb moment the first time I considered it! So simple; so powerful! Who should drive students’ learning?? Of course! The students. If I teach a child to ride a bike, I don’t make him sit on the curb and watch me! #CFISDchat
A3: classroom design is essential to blended learning. Our classrooms set the stage and invite/persuade students to come inside. We want it to be purposefully set up to engage their learning: flopped, stations, small group, etc. #CFISDchat#WeAreSalyards#SwashBengal
A2: I believe that once the students start to take ownership of their learning, they become more engaged. Plus #blendedlearning in Phase Two provides learning differentiated learning opportunities #cfisdchat#cfisdblended
A3: I feel like this is where I need to grow. I think design plays a big 're and learning how to manage it. I am open to suggestions. I feel like I went kind of fast starting out and want better management skills for blended. #CFISDchat
A3: Yes! But you don't have to spend a ton of money! Ts can provide a "PLACE" where Ss WANT to be. It can be warm, cozy and allow Ss to feel comfortable to learn.
#CFISDchat
A3: I have enjoyed including camp chairs, bean bags, yoga balls and different size tables. It’s so cool to see where the kids choose to learn and enjoy their space. #CFISDchat
A3: #CFISDChat for more effective blended learning, classroom design should be a big consideration. Flexible seating & small groups are great, and allow for rotations. They also provide the teacher with ways in which they can confer & meet with students.
A3: I think your classroom design plays a big part in blended learning. It can open up the classroom to allow for flexibility. Your classroom design in a blended learning setup, should reflect your kids and open up to their needs. #CFISDchat
A3: I don’t have a classroom, but I think with anything we do, quality lessons come from purposeful thought and planning that are centered around things like classroom design. #CFISDchat
A3 #cfisdchat you bet 👍🏽 Gone are the days of ss in desks or tables. What learning is happening When offices r up and no collaboration is taking place!? True learning happens when ss can colab and share 💡
A3: Yes the classroom design is key to moving into the blended learning environment. You don't need to break the bank on the furniture just mix up the learning space. #cfisdchat
Love the idea that it empowers them to “make decisions about themselves as learners”.. It’s their learning, after all! They should! ...And the idea that there WILL be a time when they consider themselves as “learners”. Powerful! #CFISDchat
A3: I feel like this is where I need to grow. I think design plays a big 're and learning how to manage it. I am open to suggestions. I feel like I went kind of fast starting out and want better management skills for blended. #CFISDchat
A3: absolutely! Classroom setup communicates a lot to kids: we want you to collaborate, we want you to move, we want you to make choices, I want learning to be about YOU, not ME. All of that can be shown to kids by how the classroom is set up. #cfisdchat
A3: I think a lot of this is about the student being comfortable to learn. We can design, design, design, but if the students don't see it as a learning environment that is conducive to blended learning, then it will not work. #CFISDchat
A3: Prepping the room is sometimes the hardest part for me—figuring out how to squeeze in several different seating arrangements to reflect what that station needs (a collaborative circle, partner desks, solo desks) and tape instructions/QR codes #CFISDchat
A2: By using data you're able to differentiate...a checklist keeps ss engaged by meeting their needs and allowing them to work at own pace. #CFISDchat@dsdPD
A4: Start small, don't try to eat all the jellybeans at once! Start with a few stations or just one class until you and your students get the hang of things. #CFISDchat
#cfisdchat A2 (whoops) Blended Learning allows for student engagement by allowing students to have a stake in their learning. Students have choice in their path and are actively involved in their learning.
A4: I'm new to teaching and blended learning. So I'm going to sit this one out and look at everyone else's response. Feel free to shoot those tips to me as well. #CFISDchat
A4 Start slow; start with what works for you and your students first; Ease yourself into it-- figure out what is most needed and most enjoyed by your students and know that it doesnt have to happen all at once! #cfisdchat
A3: I believe so!! We need spaces that are inviting for students, allow for group work, and are comfortable for students and allow them to move around the classroom!! And let them choose where they want to sit and work!! #CFISDchat
A4 Try and try again! Just because something doesn’t work the first time, doesn’t mean it won’t work. Adjust and ask what others are doing. Set clear procedures and instructions. And start small and grow with your students. #CFISDChat
Take on what you can handle. You don’t have to be a pro right away. Baby steps show just as much growth as diving right in. It’s a willingness to try! #CFISDchat
A4: #CFISDChat 1st-thank you for trying something new. 2nd-Please don’t give up if it isn’t perfect the first time. 3rd- New strategies can be scary, but also very rewarding.
A3: I love walking through classrooms and seeing the wide variety of furniture and classroom arrangements! Bean bags, futons, stools, beach chairs, standing desks, benches, rockers, wobbly seats, yoga balls and even your standard desk and chair! #CFISDchat
A4- Ask others for help, companies too. So many apps have teacher shared resources, how they utilize the apps in their classroom- @Flipgrid is amazing at that. There’s always more to learn so staying active, going to trainings is helpful! #CFISDchat
A4: Start small. Try blended learning studios one day week with one class. Then move to two days a week! Here is a blog post that showcases the slow release https://t.co/lCdJggNrVT#cfisdchat
A4: Start small with 2 or 3 stations in Phase 1 and move to Phase 2 as soon as you comfortably can. Checklists are easier for you and the Ss! #CFISDchat@dsdPD
A4: baby steps. Start small and be ready to learn from mistakes! Things will go wrong and that’s ok! Reflect WITH the students about how to improve next time...they’ll have ideas! @mrshartzler4 is great at getting Ss feedback for next time! #cfisdchat
A4: Realize that you're not going to break anything first!
- Ss will get it faster than you will for sure!
- Start w/ Phase 1 to get station rotations down w/ a timer.
#CFISDchat#CFISDBlended

A3 Yes, Ss feel more comfortable in their environment and have choice in their place for learning. Set up opportunities for collaboration. Some AMAZING classroom designs in CFISD!! Ditto to what was said earlier, change the space, change the mindset! #cfisdchat
A4: Use your current lessons. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Creating stations from existing components provided through our district curriculum makes blended learning a reality in the classroom. Don’t be afraid. Just do it ✅ #cfisdchat#CFISDblended#cfisdcia
A4: Realize that you're not going to break anything first!
- Ss will get it faster than you will for sure!

#CFISDchat#CFISDBlended
A4: Just jump in and try! I admit to my students all the time when it doesn’t work exactlyas i planned! Ask for help, share resources, and go visit other teacher’s classrooms!! #cfisdchat
A4: Part 2 - Also ask your students often what is working and not working for them. They are your client and you need to do what works for them. #cfisdchat
A4: And if you’re ever doubting that your kids can work successfully in a blended environment, just know our kinder and first grade students do it daily! They will surprise you with their level of independence when we let go and just try. #cfisdchat
A4: Having your content team working with you, or finding a support for #CFISDBlended is important! Bouncing ideas off of others is always important!
#CFISDchat
A4: You’re a rockstar for stepping out of your comfort zone. Recognize what went well and learn from what didn’t. And most of all, know your students will overlook what didn’t work if they know you’ve got their best interests as the focus #cfisdchat
A4- Ask others for help, companies too. So many apps have teacher shared resources, how they utilize the apps in their classroom- @Flipgrid is amazing at that. There’s always more to learn so staying active, going to trainings is helpful! #CFISDchat
Travis Brown digital coach Danish #CFISDchat fav quote "You'll never know how good you are unless you try. I walked on the moon. What can't you do." Gene Cernan Apollo 17
A4: The best and worst part of blended learning is that there’s so much prep and planning ahead of time. Think ahead about every detail of how you want Ss to move through the lesson, and then sit back and enjoy the ride during class!#CFISDchat
A4: Use your current lessons. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Creating stations from existing components provided through our district curriculum makes blended learning a reality in the classroom. Don’t be afraid. Just do it ✅ #cfisdchat#CFISDblended#cfisdcia

A4 Look at what you are already given and then supplement with ideas to allow for collaboration, discourse and critical thinking. Start small and then grow with your students as you go. Don't overwhelm yourself or Ss by moving too fast. #cfisdchat
A5 This has been hard for me in HS-- my kids have been learning one way for 11 years and I'm moving their cheese. I encourage them to have conversations with me about learning-- what is working for them and what is not. What do they wish they saw more of etc. #cfisdchat
A5 be real with them. My first time a few years ago the tech failed and it was horrible to me but the kids understood- practice makes perfect! Also ask them about the avenues we have utilized and what was their favorite- do more of that! #CFISDchat
A1 #CFISDchat#POPEPride To me, blended learning is taking modern TEKS and pulling in today's digital enhancements to deepen connections, reach challenging learners, and pushing kids to think outside of the box.
A4: (Hi! Jumping in late - sorry!) My advice is to be open to trial and error. Keep trying new things! Also, what BL looks like in your room doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s! #CFISDchat@CFISDchat
A5: The funny thing is that you don't need buy-in from the students. You need buy-in from teachers!
It's so cool to see #blendedlearning in action!
#CFISDchat
A5.2 I had a conversation with them today and altered the way we are doing our Playlist this week so they get what they told me they needed and what they felt like they were missing. Its ab growing them too- I encouraged them to be advocates of their learning #cfisdchat
A5: Ask for feedback. Listen to them! At first, they might not like the new classroom but this is NEW for them, too! Give them time to adjust. #cfisdchat
A5: I love using the locked activities on the Phase 2 checklist. One of my favorites is using a @GetKahoot to review the week’s learning. The kids totally buy in to getting quality work done so they can enjoy something new and challenging. #CFISDchat
A5 Set clear and high expectations! Offer variety in activities, learning experiences, and classroom arrangements. They will see that learning can be fun. #CFISDchat
A5: once they see all of the choices and control they have, they’re in. I’ve never seen a student who needed to be convinced that blended learning is for them...it’s usually the teachers you have to convince! #cfisdchat
A5: the Ss are hungry for change. This is the easiest sale ever. When Ss see they have choice, they will be knocking down the doors to get to class. That dream will become a reality in a blended learning environment. #cfisdblended#cfisdcia#CFISDSpirit#CFISDchat
@MrsWMatthews I am thrilled to see that you are using the lock! One of my favorite aspects of a checklist. Adds a little bit of excitement and anticipation. #CFISDchat

Lol when I told them I "moved their cheese" they thought it was sooo funny. "Who moved my cheese?" one of htem said-- I told them there was literally a book called that and they didn't believe me. #cfisdchat
A2- #CFISDChat#POPEPride When I was a kid, being able to use smelly markers was THE best "special" tool to use. We would do anything for the chance! Technology apps are the equivalent today. Flipgrid replaces a sticky note, and suddenly every kid lines up to respond!
A5: My students rise to the challenge and more engaged with #blendedlearning
I love hearing “it’s time to switch already or pack up? We had so much fun learning today!” #cfisdchat
A5: Student buy-in comes from asking for S feedback... and then actually implementing the changes they ask for. S/O to @AggiePuckett who is a pro at this #CFISDchat
A5: We sell it to them by telling them WHY we are doing BL - it helps them learn the way that’s best for them. They will get what they need. Plus second graders (and ALL kids) love having a choice in their learning! #CFISDchat
A5: our Ss will now ask their T, “can I show you my learning this way instead of one of the choices on the choice board...?” Now *that* shows buy-in: Ss are empowered, know they have a choice, and know how they can best demonstrate what they’ve learned. #cfisdchat
A3- #CFISDChat#POPEPride Utilizing a blended classroom takes a dedicated amount of time and access. Scheduling is key, especially when resources are limited. You have to start in small bits and build up usage stamina. Classroom access design is the first priority!
A1 BL is a combination of stations with a technology component. Ss can choose their path from a menu or move through preset stations where they have multiple opportunities to collaborate with peers and their teacher to show mastery of content. #CFISDchat
A6: Make sure you have your lesson fully planned out don't try and wing it the day of. Give the students the expectations ahead of time and keep the same normal procedures that they are used to. #cfisdchat
A5 #CFISDchat my sweet firsties 😍 it from jump! Even when we make changes they roll w it. Even when I leave recorded lessons for my sub to play along w playlists they still 👩🎤👨🎤
A2: Blended learning increases engagement because it allows Ss to work on their pace and level which is less frustrating especially if the they are below level. #CFISDchat
A4- #CFISDChat#POPEPride The advice I'd give is this- pick ONE thing to try & start small. You can't go from traditional classroom to super tech whiz overnight or in a month. Just like the kids need, you need time to scaffold the skills into your routine.
A6: New Classroom Management tip. Create a Studio Expert when you move to Phase Two! Allow the students a chance to help other students by volunteering to be the expert after completing a learning studio. #cfisdchat
A6: In all honesty, what we are seeing better behavior and less discipline issues in #Blendedlearning classrooms.
Ss want to be in this type of environment. They will work for a T who shows them they value their education.
#CFISDchat
A5: Students WANT blended learning. I think what’s important is how we use our students to assess our efforts and provide input for future learning experiences. #CFISDchat
A2: Ss are able to to collaborate with their peers, engage in self-directed and self-selected activities, and they can get small group 1st time instruction. Getting 1st time instruction in small group allows for less frustration down the line...#CFISDchat
A5 #CFISDchat my sweet firsties 😍 it from jump! Even when we make changes they roll w it. Even when I leave recorded lessons for my sub to play along w playlists they still 👩🎤👨🎤
A6 Set clear procedures. Give concise instructions in writing to students. Use a visible timer to help both the teacher and the students stay on track. And have required activities that need teacher signature to move on. Also, give students time to adjust. #CFISDchat
A6 modeling and practice. Also teaching how the rotations work, teaching the process for using different stations. I always do a “student example” for each activity to help students understand and stay on track. #CFISDchat
A6: Concise & specific instructions so students know exactly what is expected of them. Some sense of urgency to eliminate opportunism. The first few times, plan so that the teacher is 100% free to re-direct behavior issues. #CFISDchat
A6: Non-verbal cues work! I have been using the color changing led lights to signal messages to my Ss. I assigned each small group a color & call them to my small group by changing the colors with a remote. Or blinking lights mean clean up & fading light: turn it down #CFISDchat
A7: I’m not in a classroom, but I find @edpuzzle is great with coaching teachers and providing meaningful PD opportunities. Also, @ThingLink_EDU is great with staff. #CFISDchat
A7: Now that I am a little more comfortable with the program, I am starting to really like @Desmos
I like the interaction students can have with graphs and tables. #CFISDchat
A6 #CFISDchat set/ review clear routines, procedures and expectations every day!! The best part is when you see that magical 🌈 🦄 day when everything falls into place and the 😓 pays off 🤩😍
A6: Non-verbal cues work! I have been using the color changing led lights to signal messages to my Ss. I assigned each small group a color & call them to my small group by changing the colors with a remote. Or blinking lights mean clean up & fading light: turn it down #CFISDchat
A3: Yes, Classroom design plays a big role in BL. Ts should get their desks out of rows.... get tables, push desks together, have a “tech bar”... no need to spend a ton of money. Sometimes, Ss just want to sit on the floor, too! #CFISDchat
A6 Give them time limits; Be concise about how they are submitting what work and have regular check-ins with students. Pulling into small groups for direct teach and for them to ask questions is good too! #cfisdchat
A7: iXplore of course!
You get all the curriculum to plug right in to your #Blendedlearning checklist! You just need to plug them in to the...
- mini-lesson
-digital content
- future ready skills
- indep. practice
#CFISDchat#CFISDBlended
A6: U will be amazed at the results. When students are more engaged, it’s less time for them to “cut up” and be disruptive in the learning environment. Discipline referrals will significantly decrease and incredible learning will be taking place 📚 💻 #CFISDblended#cfisdchat
A7 I take playlists from @Ms_Morgan15 and make them fit my needs. I really like @listenwiselearn but wish they had more free resources; its great for the station rotation model! #cfisdchat
Thank you all for joining us tonight. I hope all of you are walking away with new ideas for the #blendedlearning classroom. Continue learning about blended by visiting our blog post! https://t.co/dnkU0Td7fm#cfisdchat
A6: Accountability is #1 to manage a BL classroom. We use an individual folder turn-in system, apps/sites with accountability like @edpuzzle and @Seesaw and just real conversations with our kids about expectations. #CFISDchat
