#K12ArtChat is an #ArtsEd chat that happens every Thurs 8:30 pm CST founded by #TeamGrundler @ArtGuy76 & @GrundlerArt & share Ss' art on Fridays via #FabArtsFri.
A1: I read a lot during the summer & journal, I try to use one prep a week as a reflective prep, reading, thinking etc. it is vital we take time to digest all we take in each day in the classroom
#reflect31#k12artchat
A1: I'm working on this and making it a more thoughtful practice. I sketchnote and journal about my professional practice but need to work on asking myself the hard questions #K12ArtChat
#A1#K12ArtChat Reflection is always important for moving forward in a positive way & not repeating old mistakes or missing opportunities for new methods. I keep a journal that gives me a few quiet moments to reflect along this journey each day.
A1 (un)/fortunately i seem to operate in a constant state of reflection. I enjoy thinking about connections between things. I am trying to focus on being more mindful which I think can run counter. I need to find more balance. #k12ArtChat
A1- it used to be mostly thru blogging... now mostly internal & bouncing ideas off my wife and others. Getting out in nature during summer to process and think #K12ArtChat
Q2: Do you have key points you make sure to track or reflect on/ relate to your instructional goals? If so, what are they & how keep up with them? #K12ArtChat
A1: Last year was a very tough year for me so I took a break from all things related to my practice until the last week in July when I re-engaged by attending the @MIAD_edu#CEI program. It re-inspired me along with @smelvin#TOAR book study #k12artchat
A2: The state of WI requires we do an SLO and PPG and these force #reflection but these chats are the best way to #reflect they stretch me to think about so many different things I've not thought about before. #k12artchat
A2 I try and focus on 1-creating conditions for thinking like an artist (play, risk taking, etc) 2-conceptual/technical skillbuilding & 3- making sure there is personal/expressive connection in each ss work. #k12ArtChat@columbusmuseum
Q3: How do you remain aware of your thoughts in the clsrm? What do you do to reflect on how your personal thoughts & emotions impact your instructional practice? #K12ArtChat#Reflect31
I walk too or bike and sometimes if I'm really inspired I run. That physical activity and being outside is my processing time too. Good for #reflecting#K12ArtChat
A3- this question is amazing! I don’t know how to answer it. I’m going to have to play closer attention to my own thoughts in class tomorrow #K12ArtChat
A3: I wasn't good at this as a young teacher but now I feel it's a bit like put things in cubbies or boxes - I just put them away while I'm with students #K12ArtChat
Q3: How do you remain aware of your thoughts in the clsrm? What do you do to reflect on how your personal thoughts & emotions impact your instructional practice? #K12ArtChat#Reflect31
#reflect31#K12ArtChat A3: Certainly, an educator’s personal values can greatly impact lesson design and implementation, particularly when a project theme is a social issue- but the goal is to identify the Ss’ values- and when you do, how exciting!
A3: I find it hard to hide my emotions for better or worse. I am very open and honest with students and this can sometimes get a bit raw, but I think overall they appreciate the honesty. They know I'm human and they can talk to me about anything. #k12artchat
A3: I take a look at what have I been doing that will make me react a certain way! (Sleep, Food, Sunshine) Even my steps! my watch is a great way to make sure i stay active more #K12ArtChat
A3 I am mindful that ss (re)actions have context. There is always a deeper story to a ss look, to a response, to an action. I need to exercise empathy in those moments. #k12ArtChat
I loved being part of it...your questions were so thought provoking and made my reading much richer. I actually can't wait for school to start. #K12ArtChat
A1 reflective practice - I feel like I constantly take notes on what I did and what I’d like to do in future to change things. I think the constant stream of prof learning I engage in also helps to keep me thinking about what I do and how to improve #k12ArtChat
A4: #K12ArtChat Not only do I have to find late nights in the laundry room or home studio for quiet reflective periods, but our elementary campus is great at providing tons of opportunities for reflection. They believe it’s vital to our planning #reflect31
Natural light is an issue here in WI in winter and I teach in a classroom with no natural light! When I have to walk to the office sometimes I walk outside around the building just to get some vitamin D #K12ArtChat
A3- with everything going on in our country I feel like I need to be more aware of my mental/emotional state in class. Attempting to make content representative of the different student voices and experiences. #K12ArtChat
A2 key points - I pay most attention to student attitude during intros to lessons. If they aren’t excited about the topic, they usually don’t make meaningful work. #k12ArtChat
A4: I don't have an answer for this really.......I'm a on all the time kinda person and I'm working on this as a personal goal. I want to journal in my studio in the quiet and it will take practice #K12ArtChat
A4 as an introvert in an extroverted world. I need quiet time to recharge. Be it a walk, time in my room alone, or staring at the ceiling at night. I can’t function without time to be in my head & process events. I need time to make sense of the world around me. #k12ArtChat
A4: Lunch. I rarely go to the lounge and (except in certain circumstances) do not give students passes during that period. I can reflect and regroup for the afternoon students. #K12ArtChat
A3 notes, notes notes. I have journals around me at all times that get filled with thoughts and ideas. I don’t look back on them often enough but when I do I always see something I need to address. #k12ArtChat
Walks in the evenings, a few moments at the end of the day in my classroom or even in the car on my drive home. #REFLECTION can happen anywhere and doesn’t have to be an extreme time issue #K12ArtChat
A4: I've committed to wellness and balance over the past few years and part of that is taking time for myself to think. I usually do this in the garden, on my bike, while out for a walk or cross country ski. I stay up too, late just to have some think time in studio #k12artchat
A5: A Big Win a win that means more to the person than just about anything else for me I think about my students that have overcome unsurmountable obstacles and turn out to be amazing humans #K12ArtChat
#K12ArtChat Hmmm right now I want to Triumph over my neck pain in time for school to start. It's been a long journey. Last years Triumph was ....let's just say I'm glad a new year is here.
A4 I used to follow the morning pages practice which was amazing quiet time to track ideas and thoughts. Gotta get back to them! @theartistsway#k12ArtChat
A5- my dad used to have a triumph spitfire when I was in hs and when he put it up for sale, a couple dudes came over to check it out and left with the steering wheel. #K12ArtChat
Triumph... I think personally I am proud of balancing an extremely difficult personal life with grace and being able to keep my classroom a safe place where my students and I all wanted to stay to learn and grow #a5#K12ArtChat
A4: Sketchbook time is ‘me’ time. Right now I am using that time to analyze where my time is spent, listing the goals on the left and creating a pie chart every day for this month. #K12ArtChat#Reflect31
A5 triumph... I’ve wanted a new teaching environment for a number of years - it was time for a change - and this year, I got it! New job feels like a triumph after trying for many years to find a new fit! #k12ArtChat
A5: Triumph in my classroom is proof of the responsibility that my Ss’ have taken for their own learning climate! When you see hints of this in the art room...its beautiful #K12ArtChat#Reflect31
A5- being asked to develop a mural workshop for our district because of our school’s commitment to public art. Schools that participate will receive a stipend to make it happen at their site #K12ArtChat
A6: I'd like to get back to keeping a written journal and I think this could be a great way to do that #reflect31 I want to commit to writing again. I used to write daily #k12artchat
A6: I’m going with the idea of personal sketchbooks. I think I’m going to make a goal focused sketchbook to #Reflect31... purposeful practice. #k12ArtChat
A6 since I’m starting a new position I’m going to take consistent notes at the end of each day to have something to look back on when I go to plan the next yr. Maybe a journal for each course? I’d also like the Ss to be more reflective by writing about their work #k12ArtChat
Exactly why we chose this time! It's so crazy (doesn't really matter to us if people post) but it gives everyone just a couple of minutes to be mindful and reflect to help them smoothly roll into the year. #inspire#reflect31#K12ArtChat
I would agree, I learned stick on a little toyota 4X4 pick-up! Kinda looked like an old Stomper. Was fun, but not as fun as the TR3-7 that we had in our house! #K12ArtChat
Hello #K12ArtChat friends! Wishing you all an amazing start to the 2018-19 school year! Never, ever doubt your influence and the difference you make every day! ❤️
Thanks everybody for a great chat...When we're the busiest is when we need to carve time out for #reflection, quiet and mindfulness. Best of luck to all with the launch of schoolyear 2018-19 #k12artchat
Thank you @GrundlerArt and @Artguy76 for great chat. Reflection is so important for ss/ts. The speed at which our world operates, makes the act of reflection essential to growth as a person, a professional, a collective & a culture. #K12ArtChat#Reflect31
A1: constant reflection. Having students give project and classroom feedback, newsletters, tweeting, my PLC with friends and teachers I admire... I have started to make notes after each lesson. Basically thumbs up/down and why. With student comments! #K12ArtChat
A2: reflection points.. clarity, length of assignment, modifications for individual students, connections to benchmarks and/or standards, goals for the next class meeting.. So important to evolve and be adaptable and learn from every day. #K12ArtChat
