#fcpslearn is a weekly chat about teaching and learning. Our focus is on creativity, innovation and inspiration. We discuss a range of educational topics that range from technology integration to the Olympics.
This is Michael A. from #122edchat in Chicago. @SmartLab_tweets#STEM Facilitator. Any line from Slapshot; cannot tweet out most of them. I was at a hockey game and they were playing Phil Collins. :/ Made me think of the line, "Never play 'Lady of Spain' ever again!" #fcpslearn
A1: Most Tweetable lesson of the year so far had to be introducing the power of #FlipgridFever to a new group of students. @Flipgrid may be a worldwide tool at this point, but for these kids, it was their first foray into amplifying their voices! #fcpslearn
A1: It seems like a cop out answer, but every day is tweetable. Working in a location where we are expecting students to be innovative, there is always something that can be shared out. #fcpslearn

A1~
~ calendar & counting routine activity & all of a sudden one of my Ss who speaks Creole took over the lesson very politely & sweetly proceeded to teach the class how to count to 20 in her native language... #awesomesauce#fcpslearn
A1 - My lesson is the 3Ps and 3Es. They apply to students and teachers.
Empathetic
Empowering
Enthusiastic
Passionate
Persistent
Patient.
Skills we all need to grow and be successful. #fcpslearn
A2: The excitement was palpable and the engagement level was off the charts. It was nothing I did - it was all about the incredible power of the tool. #fcpslearn
A2: As I am working on Self-Regulation to the extreme, I am having students take true ownership of the understanding of the learning process as well as brain-based changes. I am combining this with standards. #fcpslearn
A1 my most tweetable lesson so far this year had an exit ticket where students tweeted and I commented. It provided us with hours of continued engagement outside the room. #fcpslearn
A1 The school year is young so ELs just learning the ropes. Most memorable activity this year is a tie: 1. First @goformative gathering information about my new ELs and 2. Watching the students' expressions when I told them that @flipgrid now has the Immersive Reader. #fcpslearn
A2: They were unexpected, novel. They approached the content in a concrete, hands-on or visual way. They were memorable. And they had the students working hard (rather than me working hard). #fcpslearn

A2 - We rarely speak and teach students about âbeing a better person!â Giving students some time to reflect on those skills can totally change their outlook and view on themselves and education. Teaching is more than just facts. #fcpslearn
A2: There was great communication and collaboration between the partners. The pair was not satisfied with just completing the engagement, but sought to go above and beyond demonstrate understanding. #fcpslearn
Adults that come in to observe are baffled....they realize quickly that is all begins with trusting my students. Many find it hard to let go! #fcpslearn
A2~
~the pride the S felt & the engagement of her peers was off the charts ... proud moment for everyone ~ and I was the proudest momma bear of all!!! ... just precious seeing this little S standing on a fabulous giraffe step stool & teaching her peers â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸

A2b - Another lesson is called Letter Writing. Have students write a letter to themselves about what they are most proud of and how they plan on improving each day. #fcpslearn
A3: Honestly, I think every lesson is tweetable. A lesson that flops may well help someone else avoid pitfalls and it may well be answered by someone that can make it amazing!
#fcpslearn
A3: The "non-Tweetable" lessons are often the ones where we are talking the most, IMO. We feel like if students aren't DOING, then they're not learning. However, I think there's great benefit in those mini-lecture moments, if done well. #fcpslearn
A3: Tweetable, something that makes me proud to say my students found it effective. Not-so-Tweetable, a lesson that should have been thrown away before it hatched. #fcpslearn
A3 - Not every lesson carries that âwowâ factor. Also, itâs often the teacher who makes a lesson shine. What works for one, may flop for another. I like to share ideas that are easily adapted to another personâs skill set. #fcpslearn
Geneiveve James at JWMS in FCPS and I am a 7th grade English teacher. My favorite movie quote is âHappiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.â Said by Dumbledore Written by J. K. Rowling #fcpslearn
A3: Outcomes. Student buy-in. Sometimes for me, if I have been running the same play all day, I get tired of what I am seeing and just don't feel like sharing. #fcpslearn

A3: Lessons fail for a variety of reasons. But my hide-it-forever lessons are derailed by management issues I either didn't anticipate or didn't deal w/ effectively. Even that's data, tho. I mean, if the lesson was as stellar as I thought, they'd have been engaged. #fcpslearn
A4: Ss are largely positive on good and bad lessons depending on your relationships. Ss are more apt to give authentic feedback when it is modeled and valued by the T.
#fcpslearn
A4: The majority would say they liked Flipgrid & disliked lecture. There are some that would feel the opposite. But my hope is that they would be able to identify the purpose and benefits of each lesson, understanding why they're both necessary. #fcpslearn
A4: My students would say that the Tweetable ones caused them to think and become more curious as they learned. They are the ones that make time go by way too fast. #fcpslearn
A3 I think all my lessons are shareable bc they are based in what my Ss need, not what I need. Everyday we work hard! It doesn't always "look" like anything, but they are! #fcpslearn
A1: Most tweetable lesson: a S at lunch bit into an apple core and was in awe to discover a seed hiding inside it - I swept in to grab the core/teachable moment! We made it into a science lesson by examining all the parts of the apple with our magnifying glasses!! #fcpslearn
Mine loved it and I let them record all they wanted. In my game the more I can connect the more I can talk about the real hard stuff. I will do whatever it talked to give my students the best education possible. #fcpslearn
My most tweetable lesson this year wasn't planned but occurred. Discussing All Summer in a Day my gifted Ss and I debated who was the alien; the girl from Earth or the kids from Venus. They started to pull in information from other subjects like science as evidence! #fcpslearn
A4 - Oh Boy! They would probably say, â Shap is crazy! He is always about positivity and helping. I canât come to his class sad. He will play music or do some crazy positive quote!â #fcpslearn
A4 MS kiddos are notoriously tough critics. They always love the hands-on stuff, and don't like the notes and reading that we do to build our foundation. I rarely lecture, but when I do I try to make it more of a show. #fcpslearn
A4: I surveyed my students at the end of the 1st grading period. They like lessons that are active, fun, and have a memorable "hook" that helps them remember the content. They don't like traditional seatwork, ie paperwork/workbooks. (not my thing either!) #fcpslearn
A4 Feedback for students would be that somethingâs work out the way you plan them. Others you need to redo or improve them and try again đ#fcpslearn
A5: The best lesson planning advice I have ever received is to BE FLEXIBLE. Things will rarely, if ever, go according to plan. Be the kind of teacher that is not only prepared for those speed bumps, but welcomes them with open arms (and a solid back-up plan!). #fcpslearn
A2: âTweetableâ because of the way it occurred so organically, how miraculously it spurred curiosity & wonder of my kinder Ss, and how it tied perfectly into our current learning objectives (science tools/lab safety - plus all the reading/writing we did as a result!). #fcpslearn
A3: I think the difference between tweetable and non-tweetable lessons is the feeling we have once reflection starts. When we decide to tweet or not tweet a lesson it means that as a professional we are reflection on our work; which is important for our own growth. #fcpslearn
A5 "Ditch the Daily Lesson Plan" was a book I read. I stopped focusing on daily plans, and started building experiences. If it takes 3 days to do, that is fine! #fcpslearn
A4 The best feedback from students is when they ask to do the activity again. Today a student asked my when they were going to do another Flipgrid video and then guessed it on the own connecting it to the unit we are doing on the Constitution of the United States. #fcpslearn
A5: Always create lesson plans while thinking through the eyes of your students. Reflect on the connectivity of the lesson and ask yourself, "Does this lesson really matter?" #fcpslearn
A5: While student teaching, I heard this often: Be flexible. We always have to be able to make adjustments on the fly. Case in point, today we had no Internet until 1:20PM. 90% of what we do is web-based. We survived, and thrived. #fcpslearn
A5: Don't recreate the Wheel. Being a great teacher doesn't mean that you don't collaborate, use TPT, or find things online. Exhausting yourself by creating things that have already been created is a waste of your energy that you could be putting into your studentsl. #fcpslearn
